Yes, i had a malian(mali) in my dept back in uni days...

I was in u.i some days back and i saw three guys speaking some strange language.. If i would take a wild guess, i'd say they were indians, arabians(middle easterner), malaysians, maybe phillipines or indonesians.. They could pass for these ethiopians, eriretreans, sudans and d somalians.. Dnt knw which it is bt they were foreigners...

Turns out they were rushing to class cause one of them mentioned something lecture...

Another wild guess, i'd say they are postgraduates rather than undergraduates..

They used to. But hardly anymore. Even we that are here are losing the true value of education not to talk of outsiders. We are the ones going out to get good education and at huge cost to us. When we are ready to do the right thing then we can attract outsiders. What’s the gain of leaving India or Malaysia to come get a degree in a federal university in Nigeria with our degraded infrastructure and outdated curriculum? Common. Intelligence goes where it’s valued and rewarded. I don’t see that here. Generally.

The likes of Charles Taylor schooled in uni abuja, foreigners and children of diplomats schools here too.

During my days in University of Ibadan there were so many international students from Cameroon,Nigeria,Ghana,India, Pakistan,South Africa etc.They even have association, called International students association.There were many students from US, Europe and Asia doing their postgraduate studies.

Why will any foreigner want to sku in Nigerian public higher institution Gaan. The lowest they will go is to be in private uni.

There were many foreigners in our Universities in the 1970s - 80s. Also foreign lecturers. There were students from South Africa on Nigerian scholarships in Federal Government Colleges and Universities. Unfortunately, the deterioration in our educational system and many strikes changed everything.

Throughout my almost 14years as a graduate, I always see school fees for indigenes, non indigenes and foreigners, so this came to my mind again, if people travel all the way from abroad to study in Nigeria?

Too many. But not all these causes. You see them in Medicine, pharmacy, Nursing, Law, Medicine. Lab and Engineering courses. So many of them in Zaria, Ibadan, uniLag and the boarder towns.

We had 5 in our class ( B.Pharm)

You will meet them in medical and pharmaceutical sciences.

During the military era, there were several students and pedagogic personnel in the only nine or so Federal universities of Nigeria, especially in Medicine from India, etc. Tuition fees were the same for all, no discrimination. A Nigerian who got admission into a Texas University System paid in-state fees. Ahmadu Bello University and University of Lagos had the highest intake of foreign students and expatriate teachers in the country. The Nigerian university hostels and libraries were more equipped than those of USA Universities but almost at par with Western and Northern European Universities, per inter alia course books. Course books are deficient in USA university libraries.

If you go to OAU, Ile-Ife, UI, Ibadan, UNILAG and LASU, you will see many Foreign Students.

Students from Niger Rep, Tchad and Cameroon are many in ABU, Zaria,while LAUTECH has students from Ghana, Liberia & Niger Rep.

My Alma mater University Of Ibadan is filled with Europeans, Latin Americans Other African nationals and Asians

Back in the early 2000s I used to see people from Argentina and Asia coming to ABU for student exchange programs.

Our universities that are like glorified secondary schools?

Yes
At Obafemi Awolowo University we had a lot of them from Conakry, Mali etc. they also have hostels guaranteed for them. At Moremi hall, it was like two blocks (on the smaller side) of over 50rooms called international floor
