Most developed worlds don't do programs like NYSC which have no or little impact on the economy. The US unemployment rate stands at 3.1%, what the government does majorly is provide grants and create entrepreneurship institutions like Silicon Valley. Elon Musk got a grant from the government to start Space X, Meta, Google, and Microsoft are all products of Silicon Valley. Which notable entrepreneur(s) has NYSC produced that has helped to solve the country's problem None Nigeria's unemployment rate stands at 53% among the youth and 90% of Nigerian graduates go to NYSC programs. The funniest thing is that it's not the US government that is creating the employment directly, the employment is being created by those who went through the grants & funding series, and Silicon Valley. My opinions are 1 NYSC should be replaced with compulsory 6 months of entrepreneurship programs in major areas of the economy. 2 Every successful candidate should be given a noninterest loan of 5M each to start a venture. 3 Candidates who failed the programs should go for mandatory skill acquisition for 6 months. The government should give them the necessary equipment they need for their trade and a 1M noninterest loan. (e. g. , a trained fashion designer should be provided with a sewing machine, a weepy machine, and a 1M loan) Feel free to object to the opinions or add yours 123 Likes 8 Shares |

It has over outlived it's purpose. The corruption there is next to non. The dangers and death associated with it. The immorality is topnotch. The poor living conditions corpers are made to go through is sickening. The list goes on and on. ADDENDUM: The supposed unity of the country that prompted the creation of the scheme after the civil war is no where to be seen as the country is divided between ethnic lines now more than ever. Scrap it already! 45 Likes 2 Shares |

If we botched a supposedly computerized election then NYSC should be the least of our problems, the Nigerian entity itself needs a complete overhaul If as a people, tribal and religious sentiments are more important to us than equity and justice, then forget any proposed reforms, nothing meaningful will work 25 Likes |

I have said it before that NYSC should be used for a compulsory one year entrepreneurship program but Nigeria Government is brainless especially APC govt. 25 Likes 1 Share

God bless you. The scheme has outlived its importance and purpose! In fact, that 1 year delay has a serious impact on those who would have furthered their education or career... Watch how Nigerians will come and defend the outdated scheme and start attacking everyone as if they wouldn't have survived without 1 year "alawee" 14 Likes 1 Share |

True. While I agree with the OP's submission, it is however important to note that not everyone is cut out for entrepreneurship. It may be safe to let the NYSC transform into graduate roles, both in the private and public sector. If young graduates know they have two years of their graduate program to give their best to an organisation, they would definitely give in their very best. If we can do this, it will take just six months for the country to begin to experience marked difference. And importantly, the pay must be commensurate with the roles, not their current 33K fixed allawee. 4 Likes |

Let's kill it You have good points though. Scrapping NYSC entirely will throw hundreds into the labour market, NYSC staff n officials, people that produce the uniforms, those that's sell at Mami market (during orientation), transporters, etc. It will have a ripple effect on some sectors. 16 Likes |

Federal Government should give them money. Lol. They will use it to Japa. All the Doctors that enjoyed cheap education and fat allawee during NYSC have all Japa. Government should not give anyone money. Anyone that collects FG money should have his/her international passport seized and placed on travel restrictions. No one can be trusted. After enjoying Nigeria, they'll run to help develop UK and Canada. Nigeria Government, be wise ooo. Many have used millions they could have use to create wealth and employment in Nigeria to Japa because they want to enjoy and you're telling govt to give people money. FG, I warn you again coz I know you're reading this. Don't give anyone money without placing them on travel ban. Nigerians are self-centered people. My opinion 29 Likes 3 Shares |

And what replaces national integration and basic paramilitary training? Entrepreneurship can always be added to school syllabus that qualifies best performing students for interest free loans. Not scrapping NYSC. 5 Likes |

100% Yes, instead of integration Nigerians are dividing the more, insecurity now make more reason it should be abolished. Instead of posting them to work for a year in other regions outside their state, let each graduate goes to his or her state of origin, in which govt should give them orientation for 1 to 3 months, on how to have different skills, going to labour market, after 1-3 months of training, govt should give them accumulated pay of 1 year for them at once. I'm sure, someone can used that to develop and become useful to him or herself . 4 Likes |

NYSC is clearly and obviously 10 years past its expiration date at the very least. That nonsense scheme should have been scrapped even before the first Corps member was maimed and killed in the North by head-slamming supporters of Northern presidency. At this point, we are just sacrificing and putting the lives of young graduates on the line, all in a bid to keep feeding the lie that the nation is still bound by a phantom unity. 7 Likes |

The sole reason for nysc is to try new places new people and new language for one to understand how diverse the country is. It’s just like being in school, just like South Korea mandates you to go to the army for 1 year 3 Likes |

Stop this nonsense. This is one problem we have in Nigeria once we gain a thing we don't want others to experience it. Nysc didn't outlive its usefulness when you served isn't it? Wicked and selfish people. 3 Likes |

Nysc has truly outlived its usefulness All those money paid to corpers, monies used for their feeding, clothing and all those logistics should be gathered paid to these graduates after they finish their training as the OP pointed out But the problem is that, corruption would not make this work. Y? Those nysc staff would become moribund if such move is actualized If monies is paid directly to graduates, the number of ghost Corp members would skyrocket and those funds would need in private pockets 3 Likes |

Although it could be a nice initiative, although there are some flaws in it, where would the government get funds from? Abi u're advocating for them printing money again? moreover, the economic environment for businesses in Nigeria currently is harsh for existing businesses not to talk of startups |
