With things like this you don't blame those that go Abroad for treatment. Life is very cheap in this country.
Condolences to the family for an avoidable incident.

It’s a common thing all over the world.. it’s not a Nigerian thing alone.. this is why the whole world is moving now to endoscopic surgery and no longer open surgery.. but Nigerian patients do not trust endoscopic… this is why it’s not so popular here yet.. we need a working a Working minister of health and a super DG Nigerian Centre for pharmaceutical research and development..

How much does you government budget for healthcare every year?!! Compare that to what they budget for their personal cars, houses, yachts, etc?!!!

In some public hospitals, surgeons are practically doing 5 surgeries within a short time frame under the most inhumane conditions...!

Maybe you don't know some surgeries are performed without electricity and adequate ventilators and ventilation.

U are myopic and pathetic in reasoning.

So poor salary is enough reason why they should continue doing costly mistakes that will likely leed to death of patients.

The doctors are not following the standard procedure in the health system, there's the world health organisation checklist standard for surgical operations. Surgeons and nurses are supposed to have a checklist where all tools are counted before and after every operation so as to avoid cases like this .

A doctor who is prone to mistakes shouldn't be a doctor. He should work in the morgue as an embalmer

Which kind dirty talk you dey talk so, Doctor's performing surgery knowing fully well it's a matter of life and death. You dey talk say dem be human, how you take think this kind thing wey you just post so?

As an electrical engineer, I sometimes work from 8 till 8 standing all through, I dare not make any mistake because I know one mistake might take my life not to talk of medical doctors that know how delicate their work is. You're just giving complete room to incompetence under the guise of they are human too. Mtchwww

You need to go out there and do some research! Then, you will see how rotten your nation is.

Barely 6 months in office, your president has already gone abroad for healthcare twice.

Even your Labor President has been flown abroad for mere punch in the face.

So, what exactly are you dragging the few hardworking doctors for?!!! Instead of pressing for better healthcare system and better remuneration and working conditions for your doctors.

You people should continue electing useless leaders, then turn around to wail like idiots.

See thinking abeg

E get anybody wey force dem to work as doctor? So because they're underpaid that gives them liberty to act nonchalantly? I pray you or your loved ones never fall to such situation.

If them dey feel under paid they should sit at home. Dem no force them,

My oga. It's bn a while. How is our club Leeds united doing? grin

Btw, I suspect u must b a doc or a medical personnel, because the way u dey vex for the op.

But on a serious note some docs in Nigeria re becoming nonchalant wit their duties, even the ones in private hospitals. U don't transfer ur aggression on patients because the government fails to do wat is right. If we all decides to b nonchalant wit our duties because of the failure of the government, I bet u, everyone will bear the brunt.

I want to use this medium to raise awareness of how Nigerian Doctors always forget one instrument or the other inside a patient stomach and have the audacity to stitch up after surgery.

While this trend continues is because nothing serious is done to forestall this wickedness.
This act of negligence should come with serious punishment like life imprisonment and closure of that hospital to make others to get sense.

I have lost countless relatives and friends due to this wickedness of Nigerian Doctors. That's why people hardly go to hospital except for serious issues because danger increases anytime anyone visits a hospital.
If everyone loses countless friends and relatives just like you claim, would hospitals would still be in existence?
The particular case you point to at delta, how many surgeries have they performed there this year alone? And how many times did such "mistake" happen?
Stop fanning hatred on social media when you dont have enough information, one day you too would be at the receiving end, maybe then you would understand the value of "truth".
There was a case similar to this at a hospital where scan showed the woman had a towel in her stomach after an operation, she then had a second operation but no towel was found, instead it was blood that has congealed along with part of her intestine.

you just gave the perfect reply I wanted to give, in as much as such mistakes should be avoided at all costs, imagine just a Dr and an assistant in the theater with an anesthetist no intra op or peri op nurse who would be in a position to do this, why because they are understaffed. So how will a Dr start taking note of how many artery forceps or towel clips are there after a long tiring surgery. Just imagine supplementary budget passed with practically nothing...like "zero" allocation on health, how do you think manpower would be maximized, blame your leaders for all the woes

Wail like idiots you say? Work is by choice! If you are not capable and available to work then don't. No excuses is genuine or justify when it involves human life. If you feel the government isn't doing a enough then leave the system. Open your own private hospital and practice within your space. Make una no come dey use person life dey do lab experiment.

The OP isn't even concerned about the ripple effect of his post. Has this news been verified before being posted? This singular act could be putting the medical profession on the spotlight but in a very bad manner. Imagine what a non Nigerian would think of our educational and health sector when he/she stumbles on this. It's very bad and unpatriotic. This hearsay attitude of ours needs to end.

Some of the doctors even perform the surgeries unassisted, especially during emergencies and the entire staff are overwhelmed.

These people calling doctors to resign are quite shockingly narrow-minded.

I don't support negligence, but before you accuse someone of being negligent, ensure his working conditions are of international standards, and we all know that is a far cry here.

So because doctors are "human too" that gives them the right to toy with and destroy the lives of others?

I have called out medical negligence on this platform severally... Go and verify please.

From private to public health industry, our healthcare is far beneath global standard... It is shocking and unacceptable.

It is despicable and weird to keep defending corrupt leaders who don't ever use the healthcare facilities in the country, but call out the overwhelmed doctors and nurses here.

When these same people flee the nation in droves, you all will still call them out, while defending those in power.

Well... Many more of them will leave. May God help you all!

How could you say you have lost countless of relatives and friends as a result of Doctors forgetting instruments inside their Patients stomach.

We have actually heard a lot about this, but how many times has it happened.

Please, if you're very sure it has happened to your close one, kindly highlight it here.

Let's not just be hitting on myths and jettison fact
Maybe you are one of those unserious doctors. I have a sister that a bunch of bandage was forgotten in her stomach when she did a CS and another one, a scissors was forgotten in her stomach
