I am not a fan of Tinubu or Sanwo Olu, I do not think they are the best men for the Jobs, both at state and federal, but for now we just have to bear some of their ineptitudes.

That said, Nigerians are always happy to break the laws, especially if they believe they have some "connections".

There are instances where ongoing properties have been marked with " Stop Work Order" and the builders continue even at a much higher pace.

In a reasonable environment, the residents of that vicinity who will ultimately bear the consequences of flood will alert the government and as a united community, will prevent the erection of these buildings along waterways.

We also need to realize that no govt, state or federal, has enough personnel to be everywhere, everyone is quick to say, "why did it take so long for the govt to wait for those building illegally to be told to stop.

We all know what is right and wrong, we can feign ignorance at our expense.

It is safer to buy land in a safer area, and make the effort to verify if the land is free of any encumbrances. It is better to do your due diligence and be sure you are not ignorantly sinking your money down the drain.

Many will leave liabilities for their children instead of assets. Because the children will not be able to inherit such troubled assets and by the time it is dawned on the owner, that the govt has to demolish such property, he may not be in a financial state to re-build again, he may have retired or become too old to build, such calamity tends to damage the mental and the physical health. The pain of moving from a land lord in lekki to a tenant in Ajangbadi can kill faster than Covid 19.

A word is enough for the wise, if you successfully erected illegal building in the first, second, third year, nemesis will always catch up with you sooner or later. It may be your tenth year that a new govt where you know nobody will come and destroy the building.

It is cheaper on the long run to do it right, than to keep bribing your ways to sustain what is illegally built, what if you die? Would you expect your children to keep doing it the same way?

Bross I will disagree with you on the line where you said there are not enough personal to monitor. I do not know if you have built a house in Nigeria but trust me these guys arelike FLies and shiit. You will be suprised how they show up, every developing area has a spy. they are not doing this cos they want to enforce the law, they are doing this so they can extort money from you so its now up to you the builder to do the needful which is go to the office and obtaine a building permit!

Who approved the building plan?
How much was paid to LASG for the approval?
Why is Tinubu's Bourdillon house, which clearly contravened the original Ikoyi masterplan not yet marked for demolition?

How can Tinubus house on Bourdillion have contravened the master plan when the ikoyi canals in old ikoyi are still intact. Mekunwen, Bourdillion Road is intact. Macpherson to Bourdillion is intact. So where is the contravention? Have you ever seen any flooding there?

I lived at Ikoya rd and Mekunwen for years and my school was on Alexander so I passed bourdillion regularly in the 60-70's and those houses on Bourdillion have always been there. The only difference is that much of the green areas in the plots have given way to enlarged structures.

Do the the demolished houses have approval? If they have they should show them and paste all over the Internet.

The lesson is that bribing LASG staff is insufficient to confer a legal or equitable right.

Let's not muddy issues.

Why would LSG wait for such massive structures to be completed before swooping in to demolish it?

It would take nothing less than 6 months on average for such projects to be completed, and they didn't come there to mark it ❌ as to stop work?

Wetin concern me.
I do wonder why our people and institutions are not wired proactively.

There are houses over 100 years old still standing in Lagos with no qualms. If you don't do the right thing, no matter how long it takes, you will face the consequences.

Is it now there are seeing all this things....why did they take action since when the house owners were starting to build their houses....and is it not the Lagos State governor that approved for the estate developers to acquire those lands to build houses there

Show us the proof of the bolded allegation.

Even in sane climes, you would be asking questions about who approved the building plan.

In the saner clip you posted, the demolition was carried out based on a court order.

Has the Lagos state govt obtained a court order to effect the demolition of these houses?

No.
Re: Drone Footage Of Massive Structures To Be Demolished In Lagos by Firstcitizen: 9:39pm On Dec 01, 2023
chopnaira:

And in your myopic way of thinking, you don't think the builders went with court order to demolish buildings. You need brain transplant if you think the government never gave warnings and got court orders for the demolition.

In this Lagos, you can't even sack a tenant that is owning house rent without some court order.
So the government went to court to get a court order to demolish and the owners did not get lawyers to challenge it or simply folded their arms and did nothing.

You are quick in your inferiority complex to post the report of a court of your so called saner clime but forgot to post the one from Lagos.

Your gutter intelligence permeates every fabric of the Nigerian society and government parastatals hence Nigeria will always remain a Republic where jungle justice prevails.

Post the one from Lagos or hide your empty head in shame.

Like you wrote before yourself... "IF" I have approval AND is on record...

Maybe they realize that they don't. Or why would you hire a team of lawyer to go and make a case you don't have?

I believe those who have a case will not wait for anyone to tell them to go to court.

The video above was shared by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, to showing the level of encroachment of waterways and canals by real Estate developers in Lagos.

He wrote on social media,

"A drone footage of the encroachment of the drainage channel on System 156 (fully built) Igbo-Efon to Ikota channel in Lekki. Red arrow indicator showing the extent of encroachment and total blockade and diversion of system 156 Into system 157 by the developers and property owners. All the structures were fully built on the setbacks and alignment which is clearly an alteration of the Drainage Master Plan along the area.

"We have served several contravention notices and enforcement will begin after the expiration of the contravention notices."
This masterplan was there and the government was giving approvals and the concerned agencies collected different monies for different inspection and certification... For many years they looked as these structures were erected and put to use. All of a sudden they wake up to start demolishing. God will punish all of you

I find this disturbing and an insult to our sensibilities by the Lagos State Government. Watch the drone and you will discover that there exists a canal on a path that connects to another canal on the other side. The drone footage is manipulated to fit their narrative. So what the Government of lagos is saying is that they will destroy all those express roads that was marked for demolition in the video abi? Why is the video not allowed to play till the end so that we all see the termination of the canal. Take it or leave it, this is pure wickedness and as a Yoruba man I am a true "Omooluabi", the Igbos and those affected should sue the Lagos State government for damages. Imagine lagos that cannot boast of good road infrastructure is destroying roads, a state that has no housing plans for the poor is destroying the ones built by private citizens. If we say this ill-treatment of persons living in lagos is justifiable, then show me what Lagos State government is doing and has done to provide housing, roads, electricity and palliatives for the poor. All you hear is taxation, demolition, extrajudicial killings, touting, drugs, extortions, electoral malpractices, ethnic bias and religious sentiments promoted by the government of Lagos, directly or indirectly. And this is affecting us the Yorubas who do not share this ideology with them. We all have to unite in this county, shun our differences and fight the evil in our land and protect our brothers. Nonsense! Let's remember that power does not last forever. Nothing is permanent

Most of us know the rules and regulations guiding construction of building but chose to flagrantly disobey it; but when we travel out we strictly obey every law to the letter. Nigerians have the habit of always cutting corners in almost everything they do and at last have to face heavy consequences. Those whose building have been demolished should learn their lessons

Were the buildings approved? Why build over waterways? Are the developers not educated enough to know that civil structures such as waterways are not meant to be filled for construction works?
