At minimum wage you need 2 years salary to buy a brand new car

At minimum wage today you would need 50 years salary minimum to buy a brand new car of same class

The funny thing is most of the posters above commenting in disbelief are from southwest, same people that elected Buhari and Tinubbu that destroyed the country.

You don't need to go as far back as 1975, just go back to 2015. Dollar was then 195 naira now 1700 naira. 5-7 yr old used Toyota camry was 1.5-2 million, now 20-30 million.

If you think some igbos didn't vote for Tinubu and some Yorubas didn't vote for Obi you have no business living in the town. Zoo is the best place for baboons

Those blaming APC for the woes of the country should direct their anger towards Peter Obi. That man is the reason why everyone is suffering currently. Nigerians were fed up with Buhari's ineptitude coupled with the naira scarcity and were ready to sack APC from leadership. Peter Obi made sure APC remained by splitting the votes he and Atiku should have jointly gotten from nigerians hereby making Tinubu to emerge as President. Peter Obi is the reason why many families are going to bed hungry. That Obidient movement was started to ensure APC remained in power. Governor Soludo warned but was insulted by Obidients. See where we are today

What was the salary in 1975?

Truth.....that is why whenever I see NLC pushing for higher wages, I laugh because it won't improve the standard of living. Make Minimum wage 500k and see a loaf of bread becomes 10k and a cup of garri hitting 3k

In 1975, minimum wage was like 80 naira a month, so that Peugeot you are looking at was beyond the reach of average Nigerians.

Back then things were hard, and food was costly, especially meat.

Back then we ate one or two small pieces of meat with the rice. Nothing like ‘assorted’ back then.
If minimum wage was 80 naira and the car was 1500 it will take you approx 3 yrs to buy a brand new peaugeot...now minimum wage is 30k and brand new cars are in the range of 30m and above it..it will take u 83 yrs to buy a car without touching the money.

What has age got to do with experience

This is how you people spoiled Nigeria, elders never engage in debate so we ended up with elders who knows nothing and would get angry at superior arguments

What experience? How much experience can one have?

You got it all wrong mate.
In 1975 , a senior civil servant could actually buy a car, build a bungalow, train all his children and even relatives in the university on his salary.
That's the real comparison of how Nigeria has been gradually raped and pillaged by rapacious leaders.

What was the salary in 1975?

So then and now, has the $1 been capable of same strength or lesser? This also matters comparatively.

That is the power of CORRUPTION!!!!

It turns GOLD to SHIT!!!!!

That Is how far Nigerian leaders (irrespective of party) have dealt with Nigeria.

How much more damage will these wicked leaders commit before the citizens will start growing sense?

There they go again...
Let me answer your question. The car was not on sale during Jonathan's regime. And the price of that bread is around N200. Lets compare the price of what price of other things: eg. a bag Rice during Jonathan's regime is N7,000, today the price of a bag of rice is over N90,000

Least brand new car now is minimum $20k that's 30 million

That's 1000 x minimum wage..... That's 83 years

You need to work and retire at from 25 to 60
3 and half times to achieve same

Damn, you are smart. Your analysis reveals the trail of the fall of living standards in Nigeria over the years.

Tinubu has destroyed Nigeria totally
Guy, this morning, I saw a 2018 or so Toyota corolla for 30m. Then I finally concluded true true, emilokan and his apc has truelly destroyed the country.
Very very sad the poverty those misfits have brought to the country. Yet people that have not eaten 3 square meals will be hailing them on this forum.
30m? Money that was used to build mansions 9 years ago? shocked
2 of those my guys ran to Canada late last year abi early this year, guys asked on fb why they japa, shebi buhari and Tinubu they hailed, fought for, have both done well. One of them supprisenly said he saw no hope for the future of his family in naija. So at age 51 he run go Canada!
So after bringing misery on Nigerians you run? That misery, they will suffer x10 in that Canadian cold weather.
