dirt and sweat dont accumulate on circumcised ones? |
Re: I Won't Circumcise My Baby Boy (If Any) by FufuKing1(m): 4:18pm On Oct 09, 2007 |
spoilt: Not only that, but sweat and dirt do not accumulate in vaginas? Trust me, I KNOW that ladies do not always smell fresh. Again, there is a very strong defense mechanism to rationalize and justify the practice of male circumcision, much in the same way advocates of female circumcision do. |

walcolm: Again, what does the status of my privates have to do with this argument? I am very informed and have read many different viewpoints on this issue. Trust me. No, I'm not a medical professional, but you said that babies/children cannot break their bones. This is categorically false. The bones of children are more pliable, and therefore less likely to break than an adult, but breaks can and do happen. I should know, my cousin broke his leg when he was 1. As for your dismissal of the WHO data, I think you're wrong. The data included the Phillipines, which does not perform "routine medical circumcision" but traditional circumcisions. Specifically WHICH countries in doubt of? Are you saying that you do not believe it is a fact that the majority of men in the world are not circumcised? It's a known fact that the Chinese do not circumcise their boys. In India the only ethnic group that circumcises are the Muslims. The African countries I quoted not only looked at the babies, but also the status of the men. It's well-documented for example, that the practice of circumcision died off in Zimbabwe due to the influence of Christian missionaries who thought the practice barbaric. Latin America and Europe are overwhelmingly non-circumcising areas. Same for Japan and circumcision has declined drastically in Austrailia. In fact, several provinces are BANNING circumcisions. So exactly which countries do you believe practice circumcision but have been mislabeled? |

Scientific/Medical Reasons to Circumcise According to Medical Journals: • Eliminates the risk of phimosis, which affects 1 in 10 older boys and men. • Over 20-fold decrease in risk of invasive penile cancer, which has a high fatality rate or requires penile amputation. • Uncircumcised men have 1½ – 2 times the risk of prostate cancer, • Circumcision reduces by up to 5 times the risk of the man’s female partner being infected by chlamydia or getting cervical cancer (which is caused by human papillomavirus). PROTECTION FOR HIS FUTURE SPOUSE • If not circumcised soon after birth, up to 10% will later require one anyway for medical reasons. All of those links are to organisations that support circumcision - so of course they make it sound good. You can find just as many links going to anti-circumcision sites. |

Outside of the benefit to the (female), sexual partner, I am not sure I have a very strong opinion on this. That said, the Pro-Snip movement seems to have stronger backing from independent medical sources than Contre-snip. Please see links to articles from Mayo Clinic one of the top leading independent research organizations in the States. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/circumcision/PR00040 In addition, the official American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) brochure on circ, appears to fall just shy of an endorsement for which the association was criticised by its Contre-snip members. The Assoc stood by its 'benefits of circumcision list' http://www.aap.org/publiced/BR_Circumcision.htm The only strong backing I see for Contre-snip is from Johns Hopkins which links up with the Australian Contre-Snip organization, CIRC.org, whose strongest argument seems to be based on the bioethics of circumcision without the chief participants' (babies), permission. |

Both the British MEdical Association and the American Medical Association official position is that non-medical circumcision is not recommended. |

Obirin0521: And what about all of the complications as a result of circumcision that I posted before and cited in the report in Nigieria? Complications like penile adhesions, amputation of the glans, bleeding, infections, and in some rare cases death. Don't forget meatal stenosis in the baby years and also the fact that penile inflammation is much more likely to happen to circumcised boys. "This study prospectively documents the incidence of penile inflammation in a consecutive sample of boys according to circumcision status whose visit with the physician included a genital examination in a private primary care pediatric practice in rural northern Wisconsin. Penile inflammation was more common in circumcised than noncircumcised boys, especially in the first 3 years of life (exact odds ratio, 8.01, 95% confidence interval, 31-329.15). When adjusted for the number of genital examinations and age younger than 3 years, exact logistic regression found an adjusted exact odds ratio of 7.91 (95% confidence interval, 1.76-77.66). The study found that rather than protecting against penile inflammation, neonatal circumcision increases the risk of penile inflammation, particularly in boys younger than 3 years old." http://cpj.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/46/4/329 There is plenty of medical and scientific data out there that supports not circumcising. Which is why NHS and many other health organizations, including Austrailian ones which have banned the practice in many hospitals, have statements that say circumcision is not beneficial. |

An example of circumcision gone wrong: http://www.genitalintegrity.net/blouch/2007/10/17/my-son-almost-died/ How is this any different from female genital mutilation? |
Re: I Won't Circumcise My Baby Boy (If Any) by Seun(m): 1:21pm On Oct 19, 2007 |
You're going too far. Someone may read that and go ahead to circumcise her baby girl (since it's "the same") |
Re: I Won't Circumcise My Baby Boy (If Any) by FufuKing1(m): 3:24pm On Oct 19, 2007 |
Seun: That wasn't my point. My point was if we agree that female genital mutilation is wrong, after reading that story, how is male circumcision different? |

Fufu King: thank God the mama was a nurse, cos it coulda gone the other way. i think she was supposed to be there, i mean with the doctors when the procedure was taking place.and am having a feeling that aint a proper hospital she went to cos why would u send someone bleeding home with a totally naive mother.the registration of the hospital needs to be checked. she coulda sued the doctor or hospital for unproffessional conduct. |

Re: I Won't Circumcise My Baby Boy (If Any) by FufuKing1(m): 7:19pm On Oct 19, 2007 |
seun001: LOL! Hush now seun001. Emad, circumcision in men is the removal of the prepuce, also known as the foreskin. Circumcisions can be "loose", as in they leave more foreskin behind, or they can be tight, where a lot of skin is removed. Circumcision in women has many different types. The least "severe" and the one that is directly comparable to male circumcision, is the removal of the female prepuce, also known as the clitoral hood. Other harsher forms of female circumcision include clitoridectomy, the removal of the clitoris, the excision of the labia minora and then there is infibulation, where everything is scraped off and the vagina is sewn up tight, leaving only a small hold. |

That's your choice, but not going through with it for your boy WILL GREATLY REDUCE HIS RESISTANCE TO THE HIV SCOURGE!!! . . Think am well o. Wouldn't want you saddened in future. The earlier the better; before you end up circumcising a teenager/adult |

I have a son and chose not to circumsize him. I spoke to a lot of specialists and doctors who all agreed there was no medical reason to have it done. Only for religious reasons. My son is 10 and has never had an infection or bladder, urine problem. He is as healthy as he can be. The doctor explained to me how it needed to be cleaned properly so when my boy was old enough i taught him to clean it properly. I explained my choice to him as to why i didnt get him done and that he can choose for himself now he is older. Its his body and he can make the choice wether to cut bits off or not. Its very difficult to even find a doctor here that will do it. So its not unusual here to be or not to be. People will find any reason to back up there decisions but for me i couldnt see the point in cutting bits off my baby for no reason other than vanity. As i said before, if he doesnt like it or wants it off i will support his choice. For him, he doesnt know any different. |

*shrugs* apart from religion and tradition i think male circumcision has benefits its more hygeinic, its not a neccesacity u circumcise him if u dont share religous or cultural beliefs about it, socially ive heard enuff stories to put me off an uncircucised dude- plus the idea of it smelling?? i dont think so some say why some say why not female circumcision is unnecasary and unhealthy- theres nothing good abt cutting off a womans focal place! |

Tink_sh: this is what i dont get with oyinbo people, you are explain to a 10 year old boy when he grows old he will come back to you explaining why he cant get a girlfriend!!! the earlier the better- yours too late now |
Re: I Won't Circumcise My Baby Boy (If Any) by Tinksh(f): 4:17am On Apr 09, 2010 |
Dis Guy: Please dont use race as an example and generalise. I was talking about my own choice not on behalf of white people!!! I have friends that got their son done. I explained it to him cos he had to know how to clean himself properly, thats called being a mother. I am saying that the doctors wont do it here unless there is a medical reason and my son did not have a medical problem. Thats just rubbish about not getting a girlfriend. As i said earlier, not many are done here so it wont be an issue. If he sees it as a problem later he can cut it off. No harm no foul! |
