I don't think we are culturally mixed like that. There is certainly some overlap and commonality, but nothing massive or overwhelming. But we seem to like each other and get along fairly well. Isn't it more impressive for this to be the case, w/o being blood kin necessarily? I dunno, I think it is kind of cool |

NCNC and AG were both popular in the Midwest, I think that much is clear, but NCNC was more popular than AG from what I've read. I don't think this necessarily indicates anything about "ethnic alliances", though. |

i DEY LAUGH OHH. IGBO wan claim edo . well heres what the oba of benin wrote about the igbos in his autobiography. Akenzua wrote: quote: The Igbo philosophy seems to be “money maketh a man” and the Igbo man is prepared to sink to any level or scale the highest mountain to get money…No job is too menial for the Igbo man , I think there are two main reasons why “the Igbo are everywhere.” First, as I have stated, the Igbos will go to any length in search of money and since they are more willing than any other tribe to do any type of work, no matter how menial, they are ready and cheap source of labour everywhere. Another reason for their migration… is terribly overpopulated by its 12 million or so inhabitants, so that the Igbo is constantly on the move in serch of a place to stand in. While I admire the Igbos for their energy and industry, their insatiable desire for money makes me sick. …I have stated elsewhere in this narrative that the Igbo does not believe that any kindness can be gratuitous and would doubt your sincerity if you were prepared to do any favour for him without demanding or accepting a consideration. As a matter of fact the Igbo man makes the offer before he begins to ask for the help he seeks. This remarks should, however, not be taken to mean that there are no honest people among them. There certainly are, but by and large, the average Igbo man seeks gain from whatever he does. …One common charge against the Igbo is that if you give them an inch they will demand (and quite often take) a mile. An Igbo man in search of residential accommodation is prepared to pay rent for even your kitchen store. Within a week of his moving in, about half a dozen “brothers” come to “visit” him; within a fortnight more of them arrive. He then pleads with you to allow them temporary accommodation in the house but soon they have become permanent and taken every available space in your house. There would be nothing wrong with this if they remained as tenant. But the sad part of it is that before the owner knows what is happening these tenants are dangling money before his eyes for the purchase of the house itself or the adjoining land. The money comes to hand quite easily either through concerted efforts or some wealthy “brothers” or the tribal union, and overnight the owner of the house becomes a tenant on his own land. In like manner, they have surreptitiously ousted “nationals” of the other regions from their market stalls, from their shops, from the rubber plantations and other forms of human endeavour. One may say, it is the stupidity of the other people. Is it any wonder then that some other regions in the federation entertain fear of possible Igbo domination? IT IS TO BE HOPED THAT THEY DO NOT BECOME LIKE THE JEWS , objects of castigation and contempt for their industry and adventurous spirit. from this thread. http://messageboard.biafranigeriaworld.com/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/get_topic/f/1/t/001709/p/1.html |

All I know is that my cousins are from Ondo state and my jaws dropped when I attended my cousin's traditional wedding and she came out dressed like a Bini bride!!!! Apparently, brides from Owo in Ondo state dress like Bini women! Go back and do your research, some parts of Yoruba land are practically Bini, the intercultural exchange is unmistakable! |

Nnamdi Azikiwe (NCNC) became the governor general (and president after the country became a republic in 1963), Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (NPC) was named prime minister, and Obafemi Awolowo (AG) had to settle for leader of the opposition. The regional premiers were Ahmadu Bello (Northern Region, NPC), Samuel Akintola (Western Region, AG), Michael Okpara (Eastern Region, NCNC), and Dennis Osadebey (Midwestern Region, NCNC). http://countrystudies.us/nigeria/68.htm |

That Edo is POLITICALLY closer to Yoruba has no substantiation. It remains a real red herring. The language affinity is also suspect. As for me, I go with LOOKS. The two don't look much alike. Edos actually look more like Igbos. All these will be settled in the future, after the Biafran war issues must have taken the back seat. |

Nigerian girls might not be bootilicous like south african girls but we are prettier facially esp we igbo girls -check out this thread https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-761575.0.html Like I said earlier, all Nigerian girls look the same to me - yoruba, Igbo, Hausa etc etc, None of them have the ridiculous BUMS East and South African girls have, As for Senegales, Malians and girls from Guinea - they're not my type, I would go as far as saying girls from IVORY COAST are the best looking girls in West Africa - based on what I've seen, I love my Naija girls, and I'll marry a Naija girl - but they're not the best of the best In Africa, You can keep posting brushed pictures - I judge based on what I've seen, Naija girls and Ghana girls can compete between themselves - even Ghana girls have bigger BUMS than Naija gals As for the guys, no one comes close to Naija guys in Africa, Going out with a Naija guy in LONDON is like a wearing diamonds, trust me |

PhysicsQED: What about in say Benin City proper? moremi2008: Parts of Ondo and Ekiti supposedly paid tribute to Benin. We have a family friend (somewhat well-known guy in the Nigerian community, actually) who evidently his maternal (or paternal? I'm not sure) family is from Edo. |

shymmex: Dude, Naija ladies are complete although they may stress you. Naija ladies are confident, sexy, educated, pretty, elegant, etc. Some of those south african, east african gals you are praising have good bodies but are not as good looking as West African gals. All they got going for them are sexy bodies. If you want a complete lady and aren't intimidated by a confident, sexy, and educated lady, then a Nigerian lady is it. Be it Yoruba, Edo, Igbo - they are all banging. I can't even believe you said Naija ladies should compete with Ghanian gals. ekt_bear: Bini and warri divisions were strong AG areas. You also have to remember that NCNC started in Lagos by mainly Yoruba sons. NCNC won most seats in Lagos. NCNC was very strong in the South before AG made strong in roads. I dont want to go into further details so as not to derail the thread. BTW, it was parts of Ondo, the border towns, that paid tributes to Bini; Ekiti was not included. |

For me, Bini and Yoruba has always been like Igbo and Efik/Ibibio. I don't see a situation in which Edo is more culturally close to Igbo, at least this isn't the situation in Nigeria, what's closer than sharing origins of your paramount leaders? I do agree that Bini or Edo people look more eastern though. Apart from that, Bini and Igbo have influenced each other over the last 500 years, but nothing compared to the relationship with Yoruba. alj harem: I'm guessing Yoruba. |

oduasolja: If you read that carefully, yeah, parts of it may seem offensive, but it's a bit ambiguous. There he doesn't state any dislike for Igbos outright and balances his criticisms with positives. Anyway, some of the quotes are taken out of context. |
