However, I know as at January 20, Shaw had created 12 chances from corners and free kicks in the PL. He created only 3 from set plays throughout last season.

This was distance covered from our win over PSG in October.

The pairing of Fred and McTominay is essential in the defensive midfield for United because we don’t have players better than them in the squad. That does not mean we should kid ourselves that they are good enough.

McFred essentially does the job of one DM. I will rather have a quality DM like Casemiro, Kante or Ndidi as a sole DM to dovetail Pogba and Bruno. Ole knows his defence is shit and he tries to protect them with 2 DMs even against bottom sides.

He simply cannot.

He lacks the positional discipline to do so. Ndidi, Kante, etc don’t get attracted to the action and then leave their position. It takes plenty of discipline to hold your position and know when to join the attack.

McTominay is a CM, he cannot operate alone in the DM position. He’s poor at tackling, interceptions & clearances in comparison to Kante or Ndidi. If he can be used as a sole DM, Ole would have used him there at any point in the last 3 years.

McTominay is not an accurate or incisive enough passer to play that role, Fred is even a better passer than him, only inconsistent.

Fred can't receive the ball on the half turn and McTominay can't pass between the lines accurately or quickly enough. We are combining 2 players for one role.

Fred makes the lineup simply because of the energy he brings to the midfield, but his shortcomings are a cause for worry.
