udhedhe: This student do not know what they want, MKO Abiola university of Lasgos still have UNILAG in the name so am just amazed at them. They should just take UNILAg out of the full name and carry on beside is it the name or Degree they want to earn.

That is our value system. Name over substance, kpali over knowledge. Sorry. And we thought that they were in a hurry to graduate. If Harvard is changed to Barack Obama University - BOUNTY, don't go.

Furthermore, it is not the name of an institution that makes it popular rather the quality of education it gives.

And just like the Toll Gate protest and the Fuel Subsidy protest, these students will get thoroughly owned soon.
Lagosians have really proven themselves to be very spineless chaps, who can only bark but can't bite.

With their large population, they still haven't been able to do jack. When Edo and Imo people protested against their false governors, it was clear those guys meant business, and they followed it through until they got things their way. And their population ain't even up to half of Lagos'.

But Lagos? If it isn't Tinubu's thugs beating them black & blue and whipping them back in line, it's the Nigerian Army giving them a fine treatment of "Knuckles United".

By the way, has anyone taken up legal action against the Nigerian Police for the unjust killing of that innocent guy who met his fate the day he was playing street football during the Subsidy Protests? Or has the case been quickly swept and forgotten under the rug immediately after the fuel prize was rolled back to 97 Naira?
I thought so.

What a big-for-nothing city, with loud-for-nothing cowards.

Those who are saying that they should accept the new name have the rights to air their views and are clearly expressing their acceptance of an insensitive and autocratic govt. How does changing of name affect their academics performers and certificate? Rather they should face their studies. However, MKO is a man we all admired and embraces his democratic effort. A reasonable student should be peacemaker not instigating civil disturbance and unrest...

A.Gideon:
The funniest aspect of it, is that their protest will amount to nothing. Instead going back to class they are busy fighting over nothing. needless to say that with time, they will get used to the name. More so, they should be more concerned about the knowledge they are meant to acquire, not the name the institution.
You are a retard for this comment: Compare for your crappy head what the signature names of Unilag, UI, OAU etc means in securing a good Job in the market as against a MAU, TASUED etc.

Students that never protest ill-equipped laboratory, shortage of books in library, slow academic calender just to mention a few, but took to the street for a change of there institution name.. It shows us the kind of future we should expect in Nigeria

Korrection: All i have to say is guys becareful and know what you are protesting for...just becareful cos those soldiers will come and shoot in the air...your parents are at home thinking you guys are reading..they didnt send you guys to protest over a mere name change...just go back and read your books..pass your exams and carry on....

It's scaredy cats like u that make Nigeria what it is today. There's nuffin bad in protesting afterall we're in a democracy. And the Moshood Abiola they are being named after naa 'father of protesters'.
You don't change a school name without proper consultation with the school governing council and alumni. It doesn't make sense. UNILAG is not jonathan's property. It is public property.

When we say "Unilag, Uniben, Uni-Ife(OAU), UI(Ibadan), UI(Ilorin) e.t.c" those name carries prestige when pronounced & was well recognized nearly all over the world where Western Education is recognized. Why changing the name all in the name of rating yourself? abeg uncle, do something... it seems, to me, that you do not have social etiquette.well that aside. Incase you dont know, it is the quality of education that makes the name of a school ring a bell in the labour market not it's name.
advice: pls know how you talk especially in public. That speaks volume of who you are shalom.

President drinks ogogoro, wakes up in the morning and changes the name of an institution without consulting with the ALUMNI, the Unions, the Oba of Lagos, the Governing council and the University Senate. What a country! Reminds me of Idi Amin of Uganda. Let the politicians take their hands off these institutions and stop the politicization of our Ivory Towers. The arrangement where one becomes a Professor because of his relationship with Madam Umblerra has got to stop. The practice of giving honourary degrees to political rogues has to stop. University autonomy now!
