cixak95211:I don't even know why i'm replying but I guess I am ... Bro, you are one of the problems with Nigeria If a situation doesn't work for you, ignore it and keep it moving ... you don't have to bad mouth it, especially a job listing ... Bruhhhh. Smoke weed or something, chillax! What side of the bed did you wake up on ?? I explicitly stated I wanted a cofounder, plus I stated that interested people should be self driven and ready to dedicate significant time and sweat equity. I also gave context about the start up, where we are in the product life cycle etc. I expect anyone who replies to be experienced, looking for a challenge and smart enough to consider risks and opportunity costs. I don't know how delayed compensation == free labour, or where you even got free labour from. But anyway brother, it is well. |

Jaylap:Improve that section of your SOP. Include supporting documents / facts to support statements made in your SOP. Specific things to write about include but are not limited to: Salary potential of program after completion in Naira, Current opportunities in Nigeria, entrepreneurial opportunities if applicable etc If you’re planning on reapplying in > 1 month and you want to be 100% sure you’re tackling all possible reasons, apply for your GCMS note. |
ulasiking:1. There’s a link on the first page of previous threads. 2. I can’t really help you with the specifics, show blood relationship I guess ? .. depending on statements you made in the SOP. This is also where history of previous help could add credibility to her sponsorship. |
ulasiking:Wow, thanks for making it soooo detailed. Order for GCMS notes, it should come in a month but I’ve also experienced them coming much later. In the meantime, review your SOP and identify strengths and weaknesses. Improve the weaknesses. Unless you enjoy working under pressure and have assurances for SOP review late August, start now. Regarding Financials you have pretty much covered everything. Ensure you show proof of all relationship to your Aunty (draw a family tree, attach passport pages of connecting family members etc, do anything that would make a stranger easily connect the two of you), try to transfer the money for at least a year to your Aunts account (it’s a stronger proof of sponsorship). If you’re able to transfer the money to your Aunts personal account, the sponsorship letter should come from her, also attach her SOA, you can also attach sponsorship letter from the company if she has a stake in it. Be able to explain the source of the money in your sis account (6 million increase in ~2 months would raise eyebrows, unless this instance is not an anomaly) , if possible don’t add the compensation with the job (it raises more questions than answers). Finally, if possible provide examples of other instances of your Aunty helping your sister or any other member of your nuclear family. If you do this correctly, you would not need the co sponsors. Your brothers might be useful as hometies though. This, and in addition to addressing the concerns raised in your GCMS note and you should be fine. |
rippyblogger:Try to defer resumption if possible. Based on the purpose of visit and family ties reason: You’ll have a month headstart when the GCMS comes if you redraft the why Canada, future goals and prospects, and home ties, section of your SOP. From experience I know those reasons mean you need to improve those sections in your SOP. Personally I’ll review the whole SOP and improve it: make better arguments, include better supporting docs etc. Regardless of the specifics of your case, you would eventually need to amend your SOP so why not start earlier ? Based on your travel history excuse: just make it a point in your introduction to stress if you have / haven’t ever travelled outside of the Country. If the former, attach evidence of passport data pages, stamps and visa pages to support your application. Travel history is hardly ever a significant / primary reason for refusal unless you have a history of overstay. It’s mainly a secondary reason: I know someone who had visited UK, USA, CAN and still had this reason for refusal on a SP application. |

Don’t forget you would still need to write an impressive SOP. And also a LOE to address the reason for your previous program choice and why you’re applying for another program. It can be easily tackled though. Best wishes. |
Fame2me79:What is ACCA ? Honestly, just work on your SOP, if you’re not willing to put in the work for your SOP then save yourself the troubles, disappointment .. and apply for a course that shows an easy logical progression. |
Edhinks:The beauty of CS is that for the most part, it’s an applied field and there are huge applications of CS in healthcare even if you aren’t currently in the field. Your SOP just has to be a convincing story. You mentioned you have industry experience, if it’s significant and can be proven that’s an advantage. If you can demonstrate why CS, what you stand to gain from it, how it’s beneficial to your future goals and how impactful those goals are in Nigeria to motivate a return home then you should be fine. Higher chance of success if you can tie CS to your previous degree. Alternatively, get admission for both CS and a health related Masters that’s a logical progression of your previous degree. Apply with the latter and once you get to Canada, you can easily change programs. |
Anamekele:Honestly I don’t know why I’m interested in your case. But if you broaden your horizon outside of NL, you’ll know judicial review are mainly lost, based on the sole fact that it’s purely to determine if the VO followed procedural standards when coming to a decision. And you contacted an immigration lawyer, did you verify their licence ? And frankly speaking what did you expect the lawyer to say ? ‘You don’t have a case, keep your money’ If the lawyer is experienced and in good standing, you can negotiate a 70$/hr fee, keep the lawyer on retainer to review your SOP and supporting docs, people on NL can help you with the rest of your application. You would probably get charged for 5-10 hours depending on how well the initial consultation goes. Alternatively, go on the IRCC site to get a list of approved agents, there a lots of Nigerian ones, do the same as above but they’re cheaper $25-$40/hr. Main reason I’m trying to steer you away from JR is the process of reapplication is faster, you spend less and if it’s still unsuccessful it makes more sense to spend the initial ~350$ and be sure about the quality of your application going into JR review, than spending $4k for a decision you’re not sure of, and something that could possibly be solved by just spending $350. You mentioned your SOP getting reviewed by NL’ers .. I’ve had an SOP reviewed here, sought out about 10, was able to get help from 4. All 4 had vastly different comments, 1 was really hands on providing constructive criticisms, amending / rewriting paragraphs etc. Point of me saying that is to stress that only you can truly review your SOP, the best anyone would give you is advice gained from experience and most times it’s just structural nothing to vastly change your SOP, the onus is on you to pick and choose which advice best suits your situation. Even after getting help from NL, I reviewed my SOP with a CIC certified agent from the international centre in my school, and my final SOP after the adjustment was vastly different from my post NL review SOP. So man .. idk what else to say |
jessyeve:I haven’t used a web form before and I doubt people would be willing to help you based on your reputation. But just input ‘Canada webform’ in the Nairaland search box, and change the section to travel. You should find the help you need. |
akanbijm2018:If applying online and co-op is a requirement for your program, fill out the online questionnaire on the CIC website and come back to ask any further questions. |
degxyflexy:If your friend in Canada is a citizen or PR, type Atip in google. Honestly, you shouldn’t even have to ask, it’s easily accessible on google. It’s also on the links on the first page of this thread. If the person is not a PR/citizen .. type GCMS note in the search box on here and you’ll see people who have gotten theirs. PM them asking for help, advantage is they’ve used the service so they’ll be able to assist you better. I still don’t understand why people can’t drop sites that have worked for them in the past. |
Anamekele:Honestly unless your case is airtight and you have the funds in millions of Naira to spend, just take the refusal, strengthen your application, write a banging SOP, LOE and reapply. Judicial Review is expensive, time consuming and you might not even win the case. Even if you win, your application gets reviewed by another VO, you don’t know what might happen. But based on your refusal reason, you know you can improve your SOP, LOE. I’ll advise you to spend a couple weeks drafting a SOP, don’t worry about length, just consider your background and the story you’re trying to tell and answer all the main points that should be answered in a SOP. Afterwards, contact a couple people for review and prune it based on their suggestions. Once it’s two pages long just improve its readability and get appropriate supporting docs to back significant statements. You can even contact the International student service at your prospective school and they might be able to help. |
Montechristo200:In addition to what Makano said, you should review your Application and SOP and access its content from an objective standpoint. You know how much financials you declared, access that and consider options for improvement if you can. Regarding SOP there’s always room for improvement and you’ll be amazed at how much progress you’ll make between now and when the GCMS note comes if you draft a new SOP and get advise with pruning it down to make it succinct. I’ve experienced this refusal before, and it was because the SOP I thought was fire, was actually mehh. Actually my SOP was just a letter, with irrelevant supporting docs. I know for fact when the GCMS comes it’s going to have something to do with study plans, and having sufficient home ties to motivate a return home. |
Saucekide25:Read page 1 of this thread. You should find links directing you to pages for all the help you need. You could then ask specific questions to clarify things you don’t understand. |
jessyeve:You have a point in the sense that if you could reason like that, then what stops a VO from having the same thought. However, there are numerous approval cases involving applicants with virgin passports, just as there are numerous refusals involving applicants with multiple highly regarded visas on their passports. From experience, VO’s place more emphasis on purpose of visit and travel history is almost always an afterthought. Unless the applicant is planning on travelling to the above listed countries, a well drafted SOP and LOE would address the VO’s concerns without the need to travel. |
shinaldo:I haven’t seen anyone post it on Nairaland but studentuniverse is aimed at students. You register with your Canadian school email address. Every single time I’ve checked their flights are usually over 100k cheaper than Nigerian sites. |
Honestly we need to be more respectful of opinions on this thread. Instead of questioning ones motive, offer constructive feedbacks. The former derails the thread. Jessyeve suggestion is valid: but professional SOP could help, get help from an agent. Ultimately, it is up to degxyflexy to act on the suggestion. It makes more sense for the guys attacking jessyeve to channel that energy into helping degxyflexy. Granted there have been a few cases of misrepresentation on the part of agents on this thread, but the people on the receiving end are not victims. That's a bad Nigerian mentality. And extrapolating a couple bad experiences with agents to the whole population of agents does not scream good judgement. Bottom line is you could get help from this forum and an agent, they are independent events. CIC tells you what to look for when using an agent. If you have been swindled by an agent then it is your fault. Point blank. Not an agents fault or another excuse for not taking responsibility. Ignorance is not an excuse. |
Leave7777:If you have a ban, there’s not much you can do until after the expiration of the ban. Fighting the case is expensive and not just worth it. You would also need to be more specific about the circumstances and the nature of the fake bank account. If you want proper advise, post the full situation upfront. Otherwise, there really is no point in asking. |
Alday:PM me and I’ll review your SOP/LOE. Also try contacting other people on this thread for SOP review help. |
Alday:Please check Philomathhh’s recent post for an example of a good profile. With that said, I think you should start redrafting your SOP to explain the links between previous courses based on the attached template. Also apply for your GCMS if you’re not planning on reapplying immediately. If you’re chanced I’ll recommend you read thesoj’s history. Very informative.
