Rebuttals are easy to issue especially when there is no video. Lawan would have stood by his first rebuttals were there no video footage to nail him.
GEJ presidency is the most corrupt in the history of this nation. GEJ himself is corrupt body, soul and spirit.

It is amazing that some Nigerians expect anything positive to come out of today's sitting of the House of Representathieves. Do we expect them to castigate Farouk, expel him from the House, and hand him over to the antipro-corruption agencies? Does any of those (dis)honourables have the moral right to move against the disgraced man?

After listening to Lawan Farouk's argument to remove item 5 and 6 and his present ordeal, I was convinced he took the bribe. What a shame to a man who has risen to such an enviable position in his life.

For Otedola, he is a professional criminal and can use his money to get what he want. The best thing is for Nigerians to revolt and execute all these men and the Reps and house of assemblies in Federal and states. They are all criminals.

karl max: exactly!! why did the so called opposition not question him on the floor. of the house when he moved the motion? Or
I dont think the other lawmakers(non member of the subsidy probe panel) that didnt raise any objection to the amendement raised by Farouk has done anything wrong.
My reason:If you are given a task in your compnay to work on a project and you are the only one that know the in and out of the project. And after finishing your work on it,submmited the report,if you come forward later to say that you made a mistake while doing the project and you intend to correct the mistake,of course no one wud object to it simply due to the fact that you are the one that worked on it and know the in and out.
To me, I think all the member of the subsidy committee share part of the bribe. They are the one that suppose to object to the amendement.

Today, the legislature must talk directly to the people. It should acknowledge that like Nigeria, most of its members are not immune to corruption. However, it must state in very clear terms that it is its arm of government that has done more to tackle corruption in its midst. It has impeached numerous speakers, removed committee chairmen and dissolved committees simply on the allegation of corruption (it doesn't even wait for them to be found guilty). On the other hand, the executive seem to always provide 'immunity' for corrupts persons. It should ask the people, how many ministers and head of govt agencies have been removed or stood down on the basis of alleged corruption or incompetence? It should ask "how many bribery scandals have been prosecuted even when the counter-parties have been found guilty in foreign countries? It should ask why the executive is so quick to remove a judge based on the recommendations of the NJC but so hesitant to reinstate him when found 'not guilty'.

Today, the problem is not the legislature. Today, the problem is not so much the "One-Party State". The problem is the "One Arm of Govt State" (as alluded to recently by GEJ when he accused the NASS of 'working by the constitution". It is this danger of a single arm of govt (apologies Chimamanda) that we should focus on. The desire of the executive to 'discredit' the legislature and the judiciary to fulfil vested interests.

Today, the House should defend the report (the N2T fraud is a theft of N6M from each and everyone of us) and insist on the prosecution of the indicted and the acceptance of its recommendations. It should open a new investigation to re-examine all the parties cleared by the Lawan committee. Restate its commitment to fight corruption among its members. It should restate its commitment to hold the executive accountable.

PS,
A man's house is burgled in his absence. An 'eye-witness' tells the he saw 6 people burgle the house and named them. Later he retracts two of the names. Later it has found out he had been 'bribed' by the two people. If you were the house owner, would you ask the police to drop the investigation? Or would you insist that all 4 (presumably 6) be tried?

bayooooooo:

The quality of members in the house at best is average. Based on what I heard, some of them can not hold the floor for five minutes.

By and large, the reason advanced for the removal of Otedollar companies was not just weak but should also have prompted at least two key questions:

1. Why were the companies listed in the first instance, when and how was the error discovered, is there any pertinent document to substantiate your propose amendment?
2. Can we now say the report is intact and faultless or will there be another correction next week or whatever?

It has nothing to do with opposition politicians. Infact they slept because the report was in whatever guise against the establishment. The only fellow that appeared apprehensive was the Deputy Speaker who presided over the session. Judging from his reaction, the Deputy speaker actually wanted members to question Lawan by asking him to rephrase or repeat his request. Not one good question!

I think the whole house trusted Lawan to a fault. He spoke with confidence, he said all the right things befitting the status of a member against a status quo and besides, he was doing what a member confirmed to be a dangerous job: championing the probe against presidency interests. People believed he would at least be honest. So they all slept.

Was it a coincidence that the speaker, Tambuwal, did not preside that day (he was absent)?
u have rightly spoken and in addendum to all said above farouk is a crook. As at april he took a bribe to remove d name of otedola's company from d list on PFS. Come june there was delibration on d house as to why d names of these companies should not be on the list. Facrook as i would prefer to call him went back for the balance of $2.38Million and otedola decided to change d rules by outright refusal to pay up d balance. Facrook probably treatened d zenon boss telling him he would make sure d companies names where back on the list. Am sure otedola must have also warned facrook telling him dat when d sum of $620,000 was given to him he was video taped in a sting operation but facrook probably will respond by saying he had Nigerians in his palm and they will believe whatever he says. Why d initial denial of bribbery alligation, why d denial dat d video tape was a carricature of him citing obasanjo video tape of taking part in a coup as a case study to smearing his character. Why confessing later to have accepted bribe in a sting operation to expose the giver of d bribe. Why naija Why Why Why;(;(;(

The best thing every nairaland member should do is to start a very seriouse campagne against any of those Reps members representing their villages or towns nation wide, and make life a living hell for these demonic agents and their relatives, Whether they belong to APGA,ACN,CPC,PDP or whatever political party, let people organize a very strong and no nonsense movement against these crooks "representing" every cunner of the land. This is what the EZEIGBO OF NAIRALAND hopes to start in his office of parliament, to seek a way in which people could use the axe available to them and cut down the fruitless and road blocking trees, as we can see in that video that these men/women are very united, shameless and not ready to change unless we force a change down their throat by sarting to frightening them and their relatives, first with epetition to let them know that we are aware that the untold hardship which we are going through is as a result of their dishonesty and wickedness and that this is just a warning, that we can no longer play the fool while they and their relatives live like kings and queens while we keep perishing.

FELLOW NIGERIANS,

ELECTING PEOPLE INTO A PRIVILAGED POSITION IS A CHOICE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE AS OUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE.

WE NIGERIANS HAVE MADE EXTREMELY BAD CHOICES IN THE PEOPLE WE HAVE ELECTED OR ALLOWED TO BE CRIMINALLY SELECTED.

CONSTITUTION OR NOT, WE HAVE NOW GONE PAST THE TIME WE SHOULD ALL WAKE UP COLLECTIVELY AND KICK THESE CROOKS OUT.

NIGERIA IS BETTER-OFF WITH MILITARY MEN WHO WILL FORCE US TO DO AS THEY WISH, THAN ALLOWING PEOPLE THAT ARE ELECTED TO REPRESENT US, DOING WORSE THAN WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED FROM THE ARMED FORCES.

IMAGINE THE DIFFERENCE IN SALARY BETWEEN THE POLITICIANS AND THE ARMED FORCES ? YET THESE POLITICIANS WHO AWARDED THEMSELVES HUGE SALARIES AS WELL AS BENEFITS, CONTINUED TO ROB US SO SHAMELESSLY.

I BLAME THE 'GROUNDNUT & GARRI' ARMED FORCES OFFICERS WHO CAN NOT EVEN FIND THE COURAGE TO DEFEND US BY STANDING UP AND KICKING THESE CROOKS OUT.

I NOW OPENLY CALL ON THE ARMED FORCES TO TAKE OVER THE GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA, BECAUSE OUR CRIMINAL POLITICIANS ARE HELP BENT ON DESTROYING NIGERIA.

EVERY MEMBER OF THE ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA SWORE TO "PROTECT NIGERIA AGAINST BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ENEMIES".

IT IS NOW VERY CLEAR THAT THE NIGERIAN POLITICIANS ARE UNREPENTANT ENEMIES OF THE STATE OF NIGERIA.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES SHOULD MOVE IMMEDIATELY TO SAVE NIGERIA RIGHT NOW!

SHAME ON THE ARMED FORCES IF THEY CONTINUE TO ALLOW THIS CRIMINALITY IN NIGERIA!!
