RULES-

This is how it works;
we have different contestants/representatives from all sections on Nairaland.
These contestants are eligible bachelors/bachelorettes!

Members (contestants inclusive) will display poems/lyrics/literary write-ups
that they feel is eligible to win any of the contestants’ heart.
This is to secure an actual date with the contestants.
It has to be their own original and creative write-up.
Minimum of 6 lines!

We are not looking for the perfect writer/poet,
so feel free to express yourself to any contestant, anyway you like.
The contestants should inspire your write-ups and be your muse.
At the end, the viewers would vote for the write-up they enjoyed the most.

Elimination would commence after this has ran for sometime.
The writers who survive eliminations would,

1) win a date with the contestant he/she admires

2) be put up on the poll to be voted for the coveted title, “Nairaland’s The Poet”

"Type away! Express yourself as you deem fit, no holds barred!"

For Example-

Contestant Odunnu,
You lite my world,
And give me a ground to stand firm on.
Gold and silver I have none
But you are in my heart infinitely.
Pick me and I will lick you

The First post has the contestants.

My hate for love is overwhelming.
Two lines won't exactly describe the feeling.
It'd make no difference, if given more though.
No number of words can achieve that goal. undecided

@Cuddlemii, I am just seeing that you have been made Moderator here- congratulations. Let me see if I get you correctly, you are saying that those of us you listed can be the subject of any Nairalander's poem whilst we the "contestants/representatives" can also write poems about people we fancy?

Tgirl4real is married O. This your thread is "interesting" to say the least. Hmmmm... me? I have a poem I wrote some months back but did not share on Nairaland. Maybe, I will share it on this thread for people to assess? I am not sure I want to "serenade" anybody here though.

Share the poem, its all part of the excitement and entertainment. Besides, people would also learn from the poems and get ideas of how poems are written. I didn't want it to seem all stereotype and boring that is why I changed it up. I don't think anyone is buying it though, lolz. Gradually, we would get better!

My Love

I thought we were tight
But now we fight
And you want me out of sight
That doesn’t feel right

It irks me every time
I think you might not be mine
Life is not kind
I think in my mind

Our love was beautiful
Now I am pitiful
Like a fool
Over you I stool

You are like a dove
You still are my treasure trove
My love
What happened to our love?

I know I made you smile
Now the distance between us is like a mile
It makes me sad
When you think I am bad

Is it my fault?
Is it your fault?
Finding the fault
Is quite difficult

Difficult or not
You are all I have got
I can’t let go
Even if I have to do so

Ah! I am not shy about declaring affection but I have to be honest and not embarrass anybody. Like I said before, the poem is part fiction and cannot be said to truly reflect reality. You mean well but mentioning a name would not be fair because the poem would give people the wrong impression and I don't want to destroy this thread with unnecessary argument.

This thread talks about a couple that are separated, I have not being in a relationship with anyone on Nairaland, so how should I mention a name? For people to think we were a couple when we never were?

I posted this poem to share poetry and see what people think about the poem, let us leave it at that.

LMFSO! Can't the poem be from my very active imagination? You are trying too hard. It has nothing to do with that person O. Kai, just enjoy the poem jor.

LOVE AND PRIDE

Love and pride are two enemies that can’t coexist
When one partner refuses to accept his wrongs
When “I’m sorry” becomes an issue
When you expect the other to go first
When you are too big to apologise

Then . . . Pride is in the way
Pride gets in the way of loving someone unconditionally
Pride will quench the flames of love
Pride builds bitterness
Pride encourages selfishness

Love forgives
Love heals
Love apologises when wrong
Love puts pride aside
Choose love over pride

cheesy

Btw, I don't do poems o, I just write. So, I don't know if this will pass for one.
