Lol .. I think that Nigerians don't like to tell people the exact date they intend to do stuff for fear of bad belle, bad luck, vooodoo stuff so its understandable.

Yvete: Hmnnn ... I've got issues with applications to unknown or unpopular schools. It wont hurt to apply to public schools too and explain why you chose the Christian school over others. I think you guys did OK with no major faults, but it wasn't your day. Maybe a little bit of explaining with specific details will help. When you say your Dad is a contractor, Is he like those Mexicans that work all day with little training? (bricklayers type stuff?) or is he "a major contractor with the federal Government in restructuring existing roads in Nigeria?" Is he a building contractor with Julius Berger? Don't lie, but lie ... kind of.

Years back when I told them that "id like to major in International business/economics so I can have a similar job to theirs (with a smile) and hope to be a diplomat in the Nigerian Min. of Foreign Affairs with the opportunity to do International trade & tariff negotiations etc" -- With an answer like this, is there any need to ask for any ties or my future goals again? Fast forward to 2012, I'm not a diplomat Haha!

Mhen u said it all, one word replies or simple sentences ain enuf especially if u r a male applicant and u hvnt travelld before, d problem mostly associated wiv denials is dat, if u look at dem well, d replies r simple buh nt concise n convincin and most of d new guys on here find it hard to start frm part1 of this thread, before my interview last week I have read part1 part 2 in october n learnt a lot frm d negative interview to cover up ma loopholes n also took frm d positive to boost up ma loopholes. Lastly some will look at some suceful interview n try to cram it tinkin deirs will go same way. D point is, america tolerates no lazy man n laziness is wen u can't read this thread carefull n maximize it to ur success. I'm alwys glad wen imperiouxx n odas refer some pple askin questions to part1 n part2 instead of answerin dem cos its berra of for dem datway. I wish oda remainin peeps success buh remember heaven helps dose who help demselves so dnt xpect God factor if all u can xplain to choosin a skul is personal attention n xtian values, its berra u go n study in rome ( pls I dnt mean to offence no one buh sumtimes a candid advice is alwys a turnin point!) Com and Info, class size,award, recognition in USA.. should be your talking point when VO asked why did you choose the school(Moreover, what is name of those schs?)

dude, I think you were rejected because you applied to 3 schools in the same state. you should have lied to the VO by telling him you applied to only one school or 3 schools in different states. During my interview, i told the VO that i applied to 3 different schools in different states. when the fact was that i applied to 3 schools in the same state simply because i have my uncles and aunties residing in that state and i wanted to stay close to them. If i had told the VO that i applied to 3 schools in the same state; i guess i may not have gotten my visa. Telling the VO you applied to more than 3 schools in one state shows that you want to settle down or migrate to that state and not for your studies.

Anyone that reads your interview last week would be impressed. You didn't give them the chance to make negative assumptions before you 'cut in" with more information. I remember stating that leaving Church-affiliated colleges in Nigeria to pursue a relationship with God in the US is not reasonable(the VO might be atheist and sick of noisy Church neighbors in Nigeria).

@McKenzii I ended up doing Intl Rel with (Econ minor) for my undergrad.

@Mamacita: Shey u hear! Don't wanna scare you my dear, but NO SINGLE WORD ANSWERS. Questions like where did you hear about this school can be answered like ......."I came across a school ranking system; USNews while researching schools that offer this program in the US." or............ "My boss/Ex-employer is an alumni of the school and he earns very good salary here so I looked it up" (See a tie? Shows another reason why you want to return to Nigeria) ... There are no right or wrong answers, but some are better than others. If you got accepted to one of those not-so-popular or 'UNRANKED' private schools (Yes, some schools are not ranked), College confidential may be a better choice cos' its more interactive with direct info from students/alumni of your intended program. You will find wack schools like Everest on there, i tell you the truth.

I'm not sure your response † why all your three schools aя̩̥̊ε̲̣̣̣̥ in the same state was satisfactory † the VO. He may have reasoned you've got family members in that state and you're highly bent on getting † them anyhow. JU̶̲̥̅̊§† thinking..

The Vo is a young cute guy and from his appearance u could guess that he's a calm guy. They were two on glasses but he looks more handsome than d other guy. The only black guy among the Vos' was not smiling atall and he kept rejecting pple. i just said within my self dat i have gone too far to be rejected dat God owns d heart of the king and only him has d right to decide my fate. i don't care if d Vo is nice or mean all i know is dat I'm gonna get my apraval today.
