Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has condemned the recent attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV had reported that properties worth millions of naira, belonging to Nigerians, were set ablaze with many others looted by South Africans. President of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, said the attacks began on Sunday morning in Jeppestown area of Johannesburg. Mr Olubajo said in a statement that the mob “looted several shops owned by foreign nationals”, adding, “but the police later dispersed the mob and made some arrest.” But reacting, Kalu, a two-time governor of Abia, said the arrest was not enough, calling on Nigerians to stand firm and retaliate rather than waiting on South Africa to fish out the perpetrators. In a statement sent to Igbere TV on Tuesday, the senator said “the gruesome killings, looting, arson of properties belonging to Nigerians and attack of Nigerian Embassy in South Africa is ill-conceived, disheartening and wicked”. “How can any sensible person attack and burn a fellow human being just because he or she has a feeling to do so?. Those mindless criminals who attacked and prevented law abiding Nigerians to freely conduct their businesses must be made to pay for their crimes. Arresting them is not enough”, he added. Kalu questioned the essence of the renewed attack on Nigerians, adding that South Africans in Nigeria have always lived and conducted their businesses in peace. According to him, “if the South African government do not do more to protect the lives of Nigerians, there should be no reason to allow them to operate freely in Nigeria. All their enterprises deserve to be closed down including MTN, DSTV, Shoprite among others. “In the spirit of brotherhood, we have supported them. Our doors have always been opened but it’s time we retaliate by shutting our doors.” Kalu while commending President Muhammadu Buhari for despatching a special envoy to South Africa, urged the federal government to hasten its intervention and institute stiffer measures against South Africa over the endless attacks. The chief whip said the federal government should no long be patient on invoking the United Nation’s law on hate and all forms of xenophobic attacks against South Africa, “so as to make its government take the issue seriously.” http://igberetvnews.com/960069/breaking-xenophobia-senate-chief-whip-sen-kalu-calls-for-retaliation-says-arrest-not-enough/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

Igbere TV had previously reported that properties worth millions of naira, belonging to Nigerians in South Africa, were set ablaze by South Africans. A viral video sighted by Igbere TV on Monday also showed several shops being looted by the angry South African citizens in their large numbers. Senator Shehu Sani has said that the present government led by Muhammadu Buhari, once patronized Mr. Omoyele Sowore to get into power in 2015, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that Sani also slammed the Buhari led government for the incessant clampdown on protesters and members of opposition political parties in the country. The former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central in the eight Senate, was reacting to the detention of Mr Sowore, leader of the Revolution Now movement. He said the federal government has the responsibility of respecting people's right by allowing them to express their views on national issues through peaceful protest and criticism. Speaking at an event of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abuja chapel, Sani said the Sahara Reporters’ publisher contributed his own quota to the emergence of the present government. He revealed that many of those occupying position of power today in the present government went to New York and met Sowore on many occasion to help them fight the former government (of Goodluck Jonathan). “How do you turn and say the same person (Sowore) who spoke on justice and freedom five years ago is now the enemy?. “The enemy of president today are those who are pretending to be his friends. I have always reminded those in position of authority even before I became a senator and when I was a senator that power is temporary in the life. The life after power is longer than when in power”, Sani said. http://igberetvnews.com/935456/youre-a-product-of-protest-stop-the-attack-on-others-sen-sani-slams-buhari/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

Senator Shehu Sani has warned the Buhari led federal government against incessant clampdown on protesters and members of opposition parties, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that Sani said such attack on protesters could lead to violence, while reminding the President that he led several protests ahead 2015 general elections. The lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central in the eight Senate, said those who attacked Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Germany were inspired by the way protesters and dissenters are being treated in Nigeria. He said the federal government has the responsibility of respecting people's right by allowing them to express their views on national issues through peaceful protest and constructive criticism. Igbere TV reports that Senator Sani made the assertions on Saturday, August 24, during an interactive forum organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents Chapel of the FCT, Abuja. Speaking on the event theme: “Correspondents Roundtable”, Sani said that citizens could be compelled to be violent instead of peaceful, when they are prevented from expressing their opinion through a legitimate and peaceful protest. His words: “If you crush dissent and jail dissenters, you are forcing people to take the road of violence. “There is no difference between the way my friend and brother (Ekweremadu) was treated in Numerberg with the way protesters were treated in Lagos and Abuja by the state apparatus. “So the state is the main culprit in term of inspiring people to take road other than the one that is legitimate and lawful.” Speaking on the detention of Omoyele Sowore, leader of the RevolutionNow movement, the former lawmaker said the Sahara Reporters’ publisher contributed his own quota to the emergence of the present government. He revealed that many of those occupying position of power today in present government went to New York and met Sowore on many occasion to help them fight the former government (of Goodluck Jonathan). “How do you turn and say the same person who spoke on justice and freedom five years ago is now the enemy. “The enemy of president today are those who are pretending to be his friends . Igbere TV reports that the Minister was at the headquarters of the newly reformed Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), Abuja, where he was received by the Controller-General, Ahmad Ja’afaru. Speaking with newsmen, Aregbesola said the NCS, as the new name suggests, must focus its attention on correcting individuals who can be reintegrated into the society by correcting, rehabilitating and readjusting them. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday hosted traditional rulers in Northern part of the country at the presidential villa, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that the meeting which centred on insecurity in the region, had some state governors and service chiefs in attendance. Among the traditional rulers who attended the presidential treat include the Sultan of Sokoto and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. Sanusi and his state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has been at loggerhead on allegations that the former worked against the re-election of the latter in the Kano State 2019 election. Although, a presidential panel set up by the president had reportedly settled the duo, but Ganduje appears to still hold grudges against the Emir and second most respected ruler in the North. Recently, the governor ordered Kano district heads to shun the annual Dubar celebration at Emir Mohammed Sanusi’s palace. This is even as the governor recently signed a Bill creating more First Class Emirates in the state, while reducing the influence of Emir Sanusi II, reports Igbere TV. http://igberetvnews.com/925441/caption-this-trending-photo-of-buhari-with-emir-of-kano-sanusi-ii/

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said he gave Kaduna and Kano states two big positions in his cabinet to appreciate the massive votes he received during the 2019 presidential election, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV had previously reported that both Kaduna and Kano states got two “senior” ministerial position during the inauguration of Ministers on Wednesday, in Abuja. While Kaduna got Finance and Environment portfolio, Kano state received Agriculture and Defense ministries, as against some states who got “junior” positions. Igbere TV recalls that Kano gave Buhari 1,464,768 votes – the highest in the February 23 2019 election, while he had 993,445 votes from Kaduna state. Speaking during a courtesy visit to Alh. Shehu Idris, Emir of Zazzau, at his palace in Zaria, Kaduna, the president said he had rewarded those who gave him massive support in those states. “Before you push everything to me, I am just reminding you that I will do my best and I will make sure that the new cabinet is working for the good of Nigeria and Nigerians. “Kaduna and Kano are the only two states I gave two substantive positions in my council. So, I have appreciated your votes and paid you back by giving you ministers of environment and finance”, he said. The president asked all tiers of government to be alive to their responsibilities to the people, including the hoards of unemployed youths in the country. He said the issue of unemployment would be addressed when all levels of government live up to their responsibilities. “I have been talking to the governor when we were driving, the young people, the population growth here is huge and those below 20 are the majority,” Buhari said. “And they don’t seem to care how you make it, but they want the leadership to provide jobs, to provide security and all other things that are expected of government. “A lot of them have not got the opportunity for further education, so let us study the constitution and see the responsibilities of three tiers of government. Igbere TV had reported on Thursday that President Buhari was in Zaria, Kaduna state to commission a water project built by the state government for residents in the area and environs. Earlier, the president in the company of Governor Nasiru El-Rufai and CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, had commissioned a state-of-the-art post-graduate centre built by the apex bank for the Amadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. http://igberetvnews.com/924607/why-i-gave-kaduna-kano-two-top-ministerial-slot-buhari/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has in less than 24 hours, reacted twice to the inauguration of president Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV had reported that Buhari on Wednesday formally assigned portfolios to all 43 ministers-designates, 84 days after his inauguration for a second term. He had last month, sent the list of ministers to the Nigerian Senate for screening and confirmation, in an exercise that lasted just five days. Reacting, the former minister and chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), wrote; “Don't complain that @MBuhari gave the largest number of Ministries and the biggest and most strategic Ministerial portfolios to the NW. What do u expect? His is a Govt of the Fulani, by the Fulani and for the Fulani.Under him non-Fulanis are regarded as nothing more than slaves. His previous comment which came about 12 hours earlier, read; “I will judge each of @MBuhari's Ministers based on their performance and not based on my disdain and contempt for his administration. Any Minister, whether friend or foe, that performs well will receive my commendation/support and any that does not will get hell from my pen.” http://igberetvnews.com/921215/govt-of-fulani-ex-minister-speaks-on-buharis-new-ministers-portfolio/

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Wednesday, paid a visit to national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Igbere TV reports. Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State, was among the 43 new Ministers sworn in by President Muhammadu Buhari in the nation's capital, Abuja. Igbere TV had reported that President Buhari, on Wednesday, finally inaugurated his cabinet, 84 days after taking the oath of office for a second term. Shortly after he was sworn in, Aregbesola was spotted at the residence of Tinubu, whom he had served as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, during his time as Lagos State governor. Earlier, the new minister was at his new office (Ministry of Interior), where he was received by the Permanent Secretary, Barr Georgina Ekeoma Ehuriah. It is believed that Tinubu lobbied the ‘juicy’ Interior portfolio for Aregbesola, who is often regarded as his ‘boy’ having worked for his emergence as governor of Osun State. The APC national leader(Tinubu) is said to have presidential ambition ahead 2023, with many of his political sons now positioned in ‘key federal positions.’ http://igberetvnews.com/918818/buharis-new-minister-aregbesola-visits-tinubu-photos/

Lagos State APC Spokesman, Joe Igbokwe, has been appointed as Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Drainage and Water Resources, Igbere TV reports. Governor Sanwo-Olu had nominated Mr Igbokwe as Commissioner in the list sent to the Lagos State House of Assembly, last week. Igbere TV reports that the Assembly had confirmed 35 out of the 38 nominees, with Igbokwe among those confirmed as Commissioner designate. Many had expected that the Governor would announce Igbokwe as Commissioner during today's swearing in at the Alausa Government House, Ikeja, Lagos. But shockingly, the APC Spokesman was unveiled as Special Adviser, as against the earlier announced Commissioner designate. Joe Igbokwe had sparked controversy online over his “I am not Igbo...” comment during the screening exercise before the Lagos State House of Assembly. The controversial APC Spokesman had come under fire, recently, over a mockery comment on popular Lagos motorbike hailing service, GoKada. Igbokwe had mocked GoKada operators for shutting down operations in Lagos to rebrand and restrategize. “Instead of partnering with govt on BRT, you invested “5.3 million dollars” in Okada business and expect that Lagos state will allow you jeopardise its muliti-billion naira mass transit investments. “Call it ‘bike-hailing start up’ or whatever, okada na okada… it is not sustainable in a city of high density population Lagos”, Igbokwe had said. The comment, however, did not go down well with many Nigerians lambasting Igbokwe and reporting him to Governor Sanwo-Olu. Many Nigerians have reacted to the latest development, with many mocking the APC Spokesman for being “dumped” by the government despite his “overzealousness” and “eye-service”. http://igberetvnews.com/916302/shocks-as-gov-sanwo-olu-appoints-joe-igbokwe-sa-on-drainage/

Medical students of the University of Benin, on Tuesday, took to the streets to protest what they described as unfair treatment on the part of the management, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that no fewer than 50 students, barricaded the main gate leading to the Ugbowo main campus of the school, disrupting non-academic activities temporarily. Our correspondent learned that the students were protesting lack of electricity, security and pipe-borne water in the university's main campus. The protesters were armed with placards, some of which read, ‘Transformer down for four weeks, no light’, ‘Fix our light, exam in darkness, no water’, ‘Medical hostel is now a forest’, ‘Security challenges in NDDC hostel’. Speaking with our correspondent, one of the protesting students said they have been in darkness for weeks and have no good water on campus. According to her, the medical students are currently writing their professional exams and lack electricity to study. She alleged that some of her colleagues walk miles to surrounding neighbourhood just to get water and charge phones, adding, “security is also an issue.” A medical student, who gave his name as ‘Dr. Jay’, said grasses have taken over their hostels, alleging that they now share walkways with snakes and reptiles. Efforts to obtain comments from the university's spokesman, Mr. Michael Osasuyi, were unsuccessful. But an official of the Students’ Union Government who confirmed the development, said efforts were on ground to resolve the issues. The official who craved anonymity, added that the Union and the Student Affair Department were already on top of the matter. Similarly, a Facebook post by the immediate past Union President, Ogbidi Osemudiamen, collaborated the report. “Kudos UniBen students. If Ugbowo is like this, what is the the fate of Ekehuan campus?. #NoLight, #NoWater, #NoSecurity”, he wrote. Ekehuan is the second and mini campus of the University of Benin. The campus, located along Ekehuan road, currently hosts the Mass Communication department, Theatre and Applied Arts, amongst others. http://igberetvnews.com/915424/uniben-students-protest-against-lack-of-water-light-photos/

My thoughts on Nuremberg By Orji Uzor Kalu For a long time I have decided to hang my pen, perhaps politics has taken over, especially since 2015 until it was possible to serve my people once again from the corridor of the senate when I won to become a senator from Abia North senatorial district. Before the victory and after it, I have not failed to allow my mind wonder on the happenings around the country, especially in the area of politics. Atimes my thoughts on this particular subject had made me to laugh and at other times, just sheer wonderment. There is no doubt that a country as great as Nigeria with its many dimensional facets and the different mentalities that make it up, there is sure going to be a full dose of comprehending the various happenings around the country. To say I do not know and understand the political burdens that bother on the polity, let alone other areas of the country, is telling an unforgiveable lie, which I cannot forgive myself nor allow others to forgive me of. Nigeria right from its political inception, without mincing words has gone through lot of political sorrows, and some of these sorrows are still there hanging on every one of us, especially on the shoulders of the leaders. There is hunger in the country, there is anger, frustration, insecurity and many more ills, and whatever suggestions or attempts in dealing with all these seem to fall to the sandy soil and washed away by the slightest rainfall or wind. This is quite understandable; trust is dead, hope is lost and love has become some emotional feeling that has no place in our hearts. But how have I been dealing with all these? Silence and quiet to allow things roll by and deal with themselves, nevertheless coming out, as I just did by going to pick up my pen where it has been resting all these years. Because the country where I have served as a governor, now its senator and a country which has provided me with the opportunities to become what and who I am must move forward, and move forward in the right direction, irrespective of the many and different knocks I have got for some of my actions and utterances, which of course are based on misunderstanding and people not having the time to pause to read between the lines. Are we bad losers? There are times when I think many of us politicians have lowered ourselves to that basement, not for any reason but what I want to think is political competitiveness where somebody thinks he or she has the right to take the glory of any deed that would benefit the people. Wrong politics and politicking I think. Because in the process politicians have become gods and those who are to be served have lost faith in themselves and the aftermath is dealing in violence and the most un-called-for aggression. Was the incident at Nuremberg, Germany against Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweramadu, the former Deputy Senate President of the country called for? Germany is a country I visit all the time for one thing all the other; it is a peaceful country with laws in place that do not give room for violence and damning aggression of whatever height. But that peaceful atmosphere seemed to have been dented not by what I would describe as original Germans but by resident Nigerians, on one of their own. I am not going to start talking about cultures and traditions here because everything in existence is subject to evolvement, but the core of every culture and tradition has its stipulations, and no doubt these stipulations in their evolvement is directed at making our humanity better and when these stipulations and its core are wished away, can we dare say we are humans? Nigerians from every part of the country are aggrieved. The grievances are not regional, the angers and frustrations experienced from one locality is the same everywhere because they are the consequences of bad leadership which I have not stopped talking about right from the moment I went into business and found myself in politics. I am a religious man and I have read lot of religious stories and tried many a time to understand the allegories, illustrations and pictures they try to paint and convey. One especially is that of creation. God and Lucifer. Where there are differences in thoughts and idealism, where interests vary; where there are no balances in swinging, decisions will have to be made. But these decisions, how are they made and carried out? How we do this will go a long way to determining the growth of our thoughts and the expanse of our reasoning and how we have allowed the cultures and traditions that have shaped us to evolve. What happened at Nuremberg showed we are still in search of that growth and evolvement. You do not force an idea or supposition on people; you do not say because you believe a particular discourse is right then you must proceed to force it upon all to accept or adapt into their thinking and life. Maturity must come to play, and in this maturity, there must be a place for romantic discourse that tend to show and prove to all concerned why that idea should be incorporated without shoving it down every throat. Biafra has grown into an idea-a philosophy. A philosophical idea that speaks to everything negative ranging from hunger, anger deprivation, marginalization, pain, anguish, illiteracies, insecurities, the right to unity or not, the right to self-determination; separatism, bad leadership, political arrogance and political double-speak, etc.; all these which I think form the conceptualized philosophical idea of Biafra I strongly believe in, but how do you push this philosophical idea forward to be accepted by all and convince those who are in doubt to believe and find passionate acceptance of it? This is a question I think only IPOB can answer. And in finding an answer to this question the organization and those who control it must bear it in mind that a belief can only become conviction when people can only find reason and thinking in displayed actions and words and not by the violence or attack on either the like of Ike or any other person. http://igberetvnews.com/912015/nuremberg-one-question-nnamdi-kanu-ipob-must-answer-sen-kalu/

Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charlie Boy has praised members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who physically assaulted and humiliated Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Germany, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV had reported that the immediate past Deputy Senate President was petted with eggs by aggrieved members of the IPOB at an event in Germany, on Saturday. According to Charlie Boy, those IPOB members deserve some accolades and award “for beating up Ekweremadu which is what ‘Our Mumu Leaders’ deserve.” He wrote: “Me, I Like Wetin Dem Do Ike Ekweremmadu For Nuremberg, Germany. “IPOB Members Deserve Some Accolades And Award. This Is A Good Example Of What Our Nigeria Leaders Need To Be Experiencing When They Travel Abroad And Think They Can Enjoy Our Money. “Na God Go Dey Punish All This Nigeria Politicians And So-called Leaders. President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal to dismiss the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is not a Nigerian, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that the PDP and Atiku are challenging the declaration of Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Feb. 23 presidential election. The request of the APC and Buhari were contained in their final addresses to be adopted on August 23, which was made available to newsmen on Sunday at a press briefing in Abuja, with Igbere TV in attendance. In the final address, the ruling party described Atiku’s address that urged the Tribunal to sack Buhari and affirm him (Atiku) president, as a “wild goose chase prayer’’. The APC alleged that PDP erroneously allowed a candidate who was not a Nigerian by birth to contest the highest position, adding that such was an adventure that violated the provision of the Constitution. The president and his party, therefore, prayed the tribunal to invoke Section 131 (a) of the Constitution to dismiss the petition. Igbere TV reports that section 131 (a) of the Nigerian Constitution strictly holds that a person must be a citizen of Nigeria by birth to qualify to contest the Office of the President. They noted that Atiku was born on November 25, 1946 in Jada, a former Adamawa Province of Northern Cameroon before a plebiscite was conducted in 1961 that now made the enclave part of Nigeria. The parties, therefore, alleged that Abubakar was not qualified to enter the contest as the constitution forbade him from canvassing for votes to become a president. “We pray that the tribunal will see this constitutional reason and go ahead to uphold the election of the second respondent (Buhari) forthwith,’’ they prayed. http://igberetvnews.com/911844/2019-election-dismiss-atikus-petition-hes-not-a-nigerian-buhari-apc-tell-tribunal/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J
