PoliticsEXCLUSIVE: UNIBEN Increases JUPEB Tuition Fees by 9jaBlogger(op): 6:23pm On Sep 28, 2019
Management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, has approved an increment in charges payable by JUPEB students.

The new approval was contained in a memo to the JUPEB centre’s team, a copy of which was exclusively obtained by CAMPUS GIST.

According to the internal memo, while science students are to now pay N210,000, non-science students are to pay N200,000 as charges.

The memo which was signed by the institution’s Registrar, O. A. Oshodin (Mrs), however, added that the N50,000 acceptance fee remains same.

“I wish to bring to your notice that consequent upon the gracious approval of the Vice-Chancellor, JUPEB UNIBEN Study Centre now has a new regime of fees as follows:
(a) Science students - ₦210,000
(b) Non-Science students - ₦200,000”, she said.

“The purpose of this memo is to request that you put this up in our communication with the students.
The ₦50,000.00 acceptance fee remains”, added Oshodin.

CAMPUS GIST reliably gathered that the new fee regime takes effect with the resumption of new students for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Before now, students are made to pay between N150,000 to N170,000 (excluding acceptance fee) for non-sciences and science courses respectively. And this is the total fee for the duration (nine months) of the JUPEB programme.

What is JUPEB?

JUPEB means Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board.

The JUPEB programme is specially designed for candidates who usually find it very difficult to gain admission into the university via the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry process.

The programme offers candidates a much surer method of gaining admission into any university who are offering or affiliated with the JUPEB.

One of the biggest advantages of the JUPEB programme is that candidates are able to gain admission straight into 200 level of their preferred department. Another benefit of it is that the the JUPEB result is accepted by all universities who offer the JUPEB programme.

Why Chose UNIBEN for your JUPEB Programme?

Honestly speaking, the University of Benin (UNIBEN) JUPEB programme, till date stands as one of the most reliable and surest methods of gaining admission into UNIBEN. Admission is offered to candidates of this programme through merit basis and the JUPEB application forms are also available online.

Another good news is that management of the university has an installments payment plan for those who are unable to pay the full amount in one lump-sum.

To learn more about the JUPEB programme, please visit the official website of UNIBEN, www.uniben.edu, send a mail to the Registrar at registrar@uniben.edu.

Christianity EtcCOZA: Popular Pastor Reveals Why He Disowned Pastor Fatoyinbo (video) by 9jaBlogger(op): 4:14pm On Sep 27, 2019
A former spiritual father of pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Emmanuel Oset, has revealed why he severed his relationship with the embattled clergyman since 2013.

Oset revealed in an interview with Arise TV that Fatoyinbo’s alleged refusal to have a one-on-one interaction with him after Ese Walter accused him (Fatoyinbo) of taking sexual advantage of her, led to him to disown Fatoyinbo as his spiritual son.

Walter had claimed in a blog post in 2013 that she had a sexual relationship with pastor Fatoyinbo while she attended and worked in COZA church.

Pastor Oset, who is the general overseer of the Champions’ Church, Ilorin, told the interviewer that the church cannot forcibly assist a man who is not ready to receive help.

“God does not rule by force, he rules by love,” said Oset in the interview.

“People have spoken. People spoke in 2013, but you can only help somebody who wants to be helped. If somebody doesn’t want to be helped, even God will not be able to help him, His hands will be tied in that regard.”

Speaking further on the Ese Walter saga, Oset said he made repeated attempts to reach Fayinbo when the news first broke, but that the COZA pastor avoided him.

“When in August 2013, news broke out online concerning him and his ministry, as somebody he was close to as an elder, I thought it was my responsibility to get across to him.

“I was preparing to go to the United States for ministry, and after some efforts — because it wasn’t easy to get through to him. His pastor in Ilorin here, I told him, ‘Get through to your boss and I want to share a thing or two with him.’

“Eventually he succeeded, and he called me from Abuja. And I told him, ‘This news is all over the place and I want to hear from you and I want to also give you some counsel if need be.’ And he said he would get in touch.

“I said, ‘Okay, I’m on my way to the US. While I’m there if I want to get through to you, how do I do it?’ I thought he would just say, ‘Sir, you can get through to me using my email.’ Then he said his fear that time was that he was being bugged.”

Pastor Oset said, when he returned from the US, he still tried to reach Fatoyinbo, because his (Oset) desire was always to please God.

“I am not saying this to impress anybody. I wasn’t part of those already making comments on the issue. I just wanted to see how I could be useful in terms of helping him, but he didn’t show up.

“I waited from August 2013 to April 2014. When he didn’t show up, and he was coming to town, having meetings, I was seeing his billboards in town. Well, my wife and I said to ourselves we’ve done our bit.

“It was then I wrote him a letter and I said, ‘Consider that we no longer have anything to do with you and your ministry.’ I didn’t post it; it was hand-delivered by his own pastor.”

Oset said he knew Fatoyinbo got his letter in 2013 but refused to respond or return his calls.

Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai has mocked Senator Shehu Sani over a minimum wage tweet about the state government.

Recall we reported last night that the Kaduna State government had begun the full implementation of the N30,000 new minimum wage.

But reacting to the development, Sani, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central tagged the payment as a “fraud”.

“Any payment of minimum wage by any state not in accordance with the template of the new minimum wage act is simply a fraud.Selective, manipulative and dubious payment is simply a deceit.Confirm full compliance from the NLC & the TUC first not from politicians”, tweeted Sani.

Commenting, however, a Kaduna resident tagged Governor El-Rufai to the tweet, asking him to start paying Sani the new minimum wage too.

“Dear @elrufai, Pls start paying @ShehuSani minimum wage so that he can use it and buy some sense”, tweeted the resident.

The Governor who later responded to the request quoted the tweet and responded saying;

“Uncertain whether he is good enough to be employed by the Kaduna State Civil Service Commission.”

Politics‘N90bn FIRS Fund’: RootsTV Deletes Controversial Video About Osinbajo by 9jaBlogger(op): 10:02am On Sep 26, 2019
An online media platform, RootsTV has deleted a “defamatory” video publication about Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, from its YouTube channel.

This comes less than 24hours after Osinbajo through his counsel, Femi Atoyebi, SAN, threatened Google with a libel suit if the video was not pulled down and publisher suspended.

In a letter addressed to the American multinational technology company, Atoyebi said the video posted on Sept 20, 2019, made false accusations against his client (VP Osinbajo).

He argued that the video was aimed at painting Osinbajo in bad light before Nigerians, “with whom he had built a reputation of honesty.”

Atoyebi said RootsTV had accused Osinbajo of stacking up public funds for his “presidential ambition” in 2023, and that Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to the President, discovered Osinbajo’s meddling in the finances of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

According to the letter, the video also claimed that the vice president was unable to explain the ‘failed disbursement’ to beneficiaries of the Social Intervention Programme (SIP) of the Federal Government in Adamawa State.

The letter warned Google that the vice president would consider legal actions against them if the video was not taken down within 24 hours.

A quick check on RootsTV channel early Thursday showed that the controversial video has since been pulled down. It was, however, not clear if Google has hand in the development.

But the YouTube channel of the video publisher still remains intact, with about 23.8k subscribers as at the time of filing this report with no apology in sight.

Osinbajo had earlier on Wednesday demanded a retraction of a similar publication by Vanguard Newspapers as well as an apology. He also threatened legal action if the paper failed to comply, which they did.

Meanwhile, Vice President Osinbajo in a series of tweets on Wednesday, vowed to waive his constitutional immunity to allow full-scale investigation into the allegations leveled against him.

This is even as the vice president revealed that he had okayed a legal action against one Comrade Timi Frank, the author behind the said “defamatory publications”.

PoliticsUNGA 74: What President Buhari Told UN On Tuesday by 9jaBlogger(op): 6:21pm On Sep 24, 2019
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his administration was tackling corruption in the country, head-on.

Buhari made the declaration on Tuesday, while addressing the 74th Session of the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA74).

“The present Nigerian government is facing the challenges of corruption head-on,” President Buhari said in New York.

Presenting the country’s National Statement as the fifth speaker of the day, the president also spoke about the controversial P&ID N9.6bn judgement.

“We are giving notice to international criminal groups by the vigorous prosecution of the P&ID scam attempting to cheat Nigeria of billions of dollars”, he said.

He accused social media outlets of being responsible for fuelling major crimes such as mass killings, while calling on major tech companies to be alive to their responsibilities.

“They cannot be allowed to continue to facilitate the spread of religious, racist, xenophobic and false messages capable of inciting whole communities against each other, leading to loss of many lives. This could tear some countries apart.”

He also declared that, “No threat is more potent than poverty and exclusion,” noting that, “They are the foul source from which common criminality, insurgency, cross-border crimes, human trafficking and its terrible consequences draw their inspiration.”

Describing poverty “as one of the greatest challenges facing our world,” President Buhari noted that, “Its eradication is an indispensable requirement for achieving sustainable development,” while highlighting his administration’s efforts to overcome the challenge.

On the 2019 presidential elections, he said “our people backed the politics of tolerance, inclusion and community over the politics of protest and division.”

The President reaffirmed Nigeria’s position on certain issues which impinge on global peace, security, progress, democracy and development.

PoliticsWe Are Committed To Attracting Investments To Eastern Ports - NPA by 9jaBlogger(op): 5:05pm On Sep 23, 2019
Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman has reinstated the Authority’s commitment to the optimal utilisation of Eastern Ports. This is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s administrations Ease of Doing Business Policy.

Speaking while hosting members of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc committee on Ports and Habours at the Marina, Lagos head office of the NPA on Tuesday, Bala Usman said that management of the NPA was working with all relevant stakeholders towards tackling the challenges that hamper patronage of the Ports.

She enumerated issues that discourage vessel owners from patronising the Eastern Ports to include: the level of insecurity on the waterways, shallow depths which hinders the movement of big vessels as well as the problems of poor access roads and rail linkages to Ports in these areas.

On the issues of draft limitations, Bala Usman explain that, following the approval of the contract by the Federal Executive Council last year, dredging works have been completed on moving the Warri channel draft to 7.5m while consultants have been engaged to advise on level of investments needed to improve the infrastructural capacity of the port in Port Harcourt.

While noting that the Onne Ports currently function at full capacity, the Managing Director informed the meeting that the NPA has granted all requisite approvals for the construction of the Lekki Deep Sea Port for which development has started. She said further that the Authority was awaiting response from the promoters of the Badagry Deep Sea Port to enable conclusion on the final outline business case for the project.

She pointed out that the maritime industry is becoming more increasingly disposed to patronising Deep Sea Ports which allows for big vessels and aid economies of scales. She clarified that Nigeria would only assure its future market share in the industry with the development of Deep Sea Ports.

On security, the Managing Director explained that the NPA is purchasing patrol boats and working with the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and the Port Police Command to combat crimes on the nations waterways and assured that progress is being made on this front.

Concerning Port access roads nationwide, Bala Usman explained that the NPA has drawn a basket of such roads across the country and written to the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing about the need to prioritise the rehabilitation of these roads.

She noted that the ministry has commenced implementation of this process with the recent award of the construction of Ikom Bridge, which is a key road connecting Cross River State to the North Eastern part of the country and expressed optimism that these steps will provide better linkages to the hinterland and attract more business to the Eastern Ports.

Chairman of the Ad-hoc committee, Hon. Buba Yakub had earlier explained that the committee was on a fact finding mission on reasons why the Eastern Ports are not working as optimally as the Western Ports and how much that affects national development.

Yakub noted that this assignment will take his committee round all the Ports and at the end of the day, generate a blue print that would improve patronage at the Eastern Ports and prevent agitations from host communities.
