Wife of singer Timi Dakolo, Busola, has denied seeking N10 million compensation from Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, whom she accused of raping her, Igbere TV reports. Reports had it on Monday that Dakolo was seeking N10 million damages and out-of-court settlement, over the allegations against the clergyman. Igbere TV observed on the social media space that Busola received backlash from Nigerians, after a court paper carrying the said N10 million demands, surfaced on the internet. But Busola, on Tuesday, said her intention was misrepresented by Nigerians, insisting that “the facts” in her suit against the Abuja-based pastor, were twisted. In a statement obtained by Igbere TV, signed by Busola’s counsel, Pelumi Olajengbesi, on her behalf, she said “the N10m quoted by the media is the cost of the action carried out by her lawyers, to wit, litigation fee.” Full Statement, “Following the misinformation being circulated in print and social media on the pending suit filed by our client, it has become imperative to address and clarify the true state of affairs. “The Nigeria Police Force is still investigating the allegation of rape made by our client against the person of Biodun Fatoyinbo. In furtherance of the police investigation, the suspect (Biodun Fatoyinbo) was confronted by the complainant (our client) on September 5, 2019 at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Area 10, Abuja during an investigation conference presided over by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mike Ogbizi. The police therefore have not taken anyone to court. “However, our client, in furtherance of her civil rights, and in line with constitutional provisions, filed a civil suit against Biodun Fatoyinbo on September 6, 2019. The civil suit is independent of the criminal allegations and/or investigation of the police. “The suit has been the subject of several news headlines, albeit with a lot of misleading information. This missive is aimed at clarifying this misinformation and setting the records straight. “Firstly, our client filed the civil suit against Biodun Fatoyinbo on September 6, 2019 at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and not the Federal High Court, as widely reported. As of the time of filing the suit, the same had yet to be assigned to a judge for hearing. “Secondly, the court did not issue any summons on our client and the 14 days given to the defendant (Biodun Fatoyinbo) within which to enter appearance to the writ of summons commences from the date of personal service of the said suit on the person of Biodun Fatoyinbo and this certainly will be after the matter has been assigned to a judge. “Thirdly, our client has not sought any monetary damages and/or compensation against Biodun Fatoyinbo in her reliefs. This is because our client’s reason for filing the civil suit against Biodun Fatoyinbo is, inter-alia, for the court to make pronouncements on her rights as well as Biodun’s liabilities and also to help other victims of sexual, physical and emotional abuse gain the courage to confront their abusers no matter how highly placed they may be.” http://igberetvnews.com/975511/coza-rape-saga-busola-clears-the-air-on-n10m-damages-suit/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

South Africa’s ruling party, Africa National Congress (ANC) is sad over the demise of former Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV had earlier reported the death of Mugabe, who ruled his country for 37 years from independence until late 2017 before his ousting. Zimbabwe's President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, while confirming the death on Friday, said the former president died in Singapore where he was undergoing treatment. The ANC says it mourns the passing of "our brother, Comrade President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, who passes away having devoted his life to the service of his country and his people". In a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Friday, ANC Secretary General, Ace Magashule said: "In his Independence Day speech delivered on March 6, 1957, the father of Ghana's independence, Kwame Nkrumah delivered the rousing words that went on to nourish and sustain the hopes of all Africans who at the time yearned for independence and self-determination. 'We have awakened..we will not sleep anymore. Today, from now on, there is a new African in the world. "The new Africa is ready to fight his own battles and show that after all, the black man is capable of managing his own affairs." Magashule said the life of Mugabe came to epitomise the "new African" - who having shrugged off the colonial yoke, would strive to ensure his country took its rightful place amongst the community of nations: firmly in charge of its own destiny. "The revolutionary struggle of Zanu-PF was an inspiration to the then-banned and suppressed African National Congress (ANC) who was fighting the apartheid government in South Africa. "Comrade Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF has over the years been a longstanding friend and supporter of the African National Congress (ANC), from the exile years through to democracy. Our fraternal relations, grounded in the mutual aspirations of human rights, political dignity and social justice - have endured over the years... "To the Mugabe family, we extend our heartfelt condolences. To our friends in Zanu-PF be comforted that you have lost a leader whose service to his country will forever be inscribed. We mourn with you the passing of our friend, statesman, leader, revolutionary." See Press Release below...

Igbere TV had reported that properties worth millions of naira, belonging to Nigerians in South Africa, were set ablaze with many others looted by South Africans. President of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Comrade Adetola Olubajo, said the attacks began on Sunday morning in Jeppestown area of Johannesburg. Mr Olubajo said in a statement that the mob “looted several shops owned by foreign nationals”, adding, ”but the police later dispersed the angry mob and made some arrest.” But reacting, Lauretta Onochie, Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media, said the videos being circulated on social media were not recent, insisting that no Nigerian was lost to the attack. “No Nigerian life has been lost in South Africa in the last few days. The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio says the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) had not perform credibly well since its establishment, Igbere TV reports. This is even as the Minister decried the huge indebtedness of the Commission to the tune of over N2 trillion to some real contracts and imagined contracts. Senator Akpabio who disclosed this while meeting with the Management team of the NDDC said there would be a forensic audit of the funds received and spent by the Commission since 2000. “The impact of NDDC on the entire Niger Delta region would have been more if not for those thing militating against development, personal interest, political interest, interferences here and there. “The NDDC was strategic, it was a child of necessity, I believe that the NDDC has not performed well, I don’t want to say that you have failed the region, I am saying that you have not performed well. “The real youths of the Niger Delta who undertook clearance of water hyacinths have not been paid, those that were paid are political youths, people that you owe just N500,000 to N1 million are over 400 and they have been going to NDDC for over 10 years, and the money has not been given to them. “I know as for now in terms of debt, NDDC is owing over N2 trillion, some of them are real, some are imagined, but the problem we are having is that you won’t know the ones that are real when they are mixed with the ones that are political, and the result is that someone who took a loan to do a real job for NDDC probably may have died, leaving the family in penury. “We will do forensic analysis and audit, we will try to go backwards even from the year 2000 up till now to know what came in and what went out and why we have not seen much on ground,” Senator Akpabio said. Stating the need to refocus the Commission, the Minister noted the Commission would cease from paying over N200 million as rent for their headquarters. “We will stop you from doing politically motivated roads, we will stop you from keeping your headquarters for over 20 years without commissioning, we will stop you from paying N200 million to N300 million yearly as rent for the headquarters you are occupying,” he added. On his part, the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Festus Keyamo said the NDDC has failed the Niger Delta region. He said the funds spent by the Commission was not commensurate with the infrastructure on ground. “The purpose of this meeting is to meet with you for the first time as the supervisory Ministry, get to know you and discuss some issues that are at the front burner, redefine the vision of the Commission that has since been lost over time. “I recall that a few weeks ago, the Vice President of this country did say publicly that this commission has failed, that is the truth. “In terms of commensurability of the project viz-a-viz the income that is accruable to the commission, we have failed. “Let us be clear that it will not business as usual, it will be business unusual from now on,” Keyamo noted. Igbere TV reports that the NDDC Management team was led by the Director Overseeing the Commission, Dr Akwagaga Enyia. http://igberetvnews.com/963057/nddc-has-not-performed-well-owes-over-n2-trillion-minister/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has come under fire for attending the ongoing World Economic Forum in South Africa despite federal government’s boycott of the event over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in the country, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV had reported that Nigeria, alongside African countries like Rwanda, Malawi and DR Congo, boycotted the two-day summit holding in Cape Town following the attack on foreigners in South Africa. Ezkwesili earned heavy criticisms from Nigerians after photos of her attending the summit surfaced on social media, particularly on micro-blogging platform, Twitter. President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, was among those to first criticize the former presidential candidate in the last general election. “Surprised to see some Nigerian experts in everything governance who spend most of their time lecturing the Government on empathy and the art of prioritizing national interest over individual benefits, (but) still went ahead to attend the summit”, he wrote. Other critics claimed that Mrs Ezekwesili could not afford to boycott the event because of “her love for dollars” and the “camera”. Apart from the former Minister, Founder of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia, was also spotted at the event and currently being dragged on Twitter alongside Oby. Below are some reactions to her attendance at the event, as obtained by Igbere TV.. http://igberetvnews.com/961808/xenophobia-ngerians-attack-oby-ezekwesili-for-attending-world-eonomic-forum/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

To ensure that the whole process is domesticated, Senator Akpabio and the Minister of State, Festus Keyamo set up a 5-man committee to work out detailed modalities of the training programme adding that any nation that cannot feed itself is yet to start. Earlier, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Concept Amadeus Limited, Prince Patrick Osabase, the organization representing the Greece government said that the partnership programme will create employment for the youths in the Niger Delta region and enhance their potentials in the fishing industry, adding that Nigeria lost about $10 billion yearly to untapped resources in the fishing industry. http://igberetvnews.com/962506/nigeria-to-start-building-ships-partners-greece-government/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan has condemned the recent attack on Nigerians living in South Africa, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV had reported that properties worth millions of naira, belonging to Nigerians, were set ablaze with many others looted by South Africans. President of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, said the attacks began on Sunday morning in Jeppestown area of Johannesburg. Olubajo said in a statement that the mob “looted several shops owned by foreign nationals”, adding, “but the police later dispersed the mob and made some arrest.” Reacting, the Senate President said Nigeria has had enough of its citizens being targets of these attacks, adding that such crimes would no longer be tolerated. He reminded South Africans of the help Nigeria rendered their country during its apartheid era, while calling on the country's parliament to act. While commending the federal government for its efforts in addressing the crisis, Lawan recalled a meeting he had with the South African High Commissioner, saying that the Senate was monitoring the situation. Full Statement, “I note with serious concern the worsening Xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa in which Nigerians have been major victims. “Nigeria has had enough of its citizens being targets of these attacks and will no longer tolerate hate crimes in any form against its citizens who are doing legitimate businesses in that country. “Xenophobic violence is most condemnable anywhere; more so in South Africa, a country whose citizens benefitted from the unwavered support and solidarity of Africans and freedom lovers across the world in their historic struggle against apartheid. “More disturbing, however, is that these attacks indicate the neglect of educating the younger generations on the sacrifices that Africans proudly made towards expunging the scourges of colonialism and apartheid from their continent. “The enormous contributions of Nigeria to this historic struggle is underscored by its recognition as a frontline state in the prolonged confrontation against the powerful racist regime that had held generations of Southern Africans in bondage and subhuman conditions. “This recognition is in spite of the fact that Nigeria does not share geographical borders with the subregion and was far removed from the direct consequences of apartheid. “The liberation of South Africa was rightly celebrated across the continent and the Black world as the final emancipation of Africans from colonialism and apartheid. “It is therefore, an unacceptable irony that a section of South Africans would so soon, after now, choose other Africans in their country as the targets of mindless violent attacks over frustrations for which the innocent victims have no control. “It would be recalled that I had on July 15, this year, met with the South African High Commissioner, Bobby Moroe, in Abuja over the same issue. “At the meeting, I had said: "The South African Government must as a matter of urgency do whatever it takes to protect the lives and property of Nigerians living there, just as the Nigerian Government remain committed to the safety of South Africans residing here and their investments. "I believe we have faced enough, we will no longer take it anymore. The South African parliament must act fast to put a stop to this menace." “I acknowledge the efforts the Federal Government is making to register the indignation of Nigerians on the cruel treatment of their compatriots in South Africa and to force an end to it.” As part of the efforts on Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari has also dispatched a special envoy to meet with the South African authorities, in addition to scheduling a presidential visit to South Africa for discussions with the government of that country on how to end the attacks and redress the current situation. Every step necessary must be taken in protecting law-abiding foreigners, including Nigerians, and their businesses from hate crimes in South Africa. It is noteworthy that South Africans and their businesses are prospering from the clement environment that Nigeria offers to all without discrimination. We demand no less from them. The Senate is closely observing the situation and urges the Federal Government of Nigeria to accept nothing but the immediate cessation of hostility to Nigerians living in South Africa. http://igberetvnews.com/960238/enough-is-enough-senate-reacts-to-xenophobic-attacks-in-south-africa/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J
