EducationRe: OAU Fees Hike Struggle: Management Places Union Leaders On Probation by 9jalyte: 9:04pm On Aug 21, 2014
hmmm, I have been reading through the comments of people over this issue, honestly I get scared the more, each time I come to terms with this reality that our present generation of young Nigerians are in no way close to having leadership qualities. Just observe, it is either "na waah oo", "God help us", or some other lousy comments. If it is about abusing them selves, they will not hide the rotten street life the acquire in the different slums they grew up. Always cursing each other in defense of those that are riding on their head. The other time, they were abusing FG for being insensitive to the plights of our "honorable" ASUU. Many have been shouting, heightening their blood pressure that FG suspended residency program. Ok, lo and behold, it has happened to your comrades, what do you have to say "na waa ooh". Where are those hash-tags you have been using for e-activism. Please, let no one even think that I am pro who ever, cus that's the default thinking of some when issues are brought up. I am concerned about the future.

I like the high political consciousness developing among our young people, but the annoying thing is that we are too timid to assume leadership roles. we are still depending on Falana, Soyinka, or maybe resurrect Gani Fawenmi to come and speak for us. Have you asked the question, how old were they when they made their names in the Nigerian space. Every day, we engage our selves in debate of how GEJ, Buhari, Fashola, Atiku etc should or should not rule. Nobody actually considers himself as a leader, and you blame who for not allowing you be leaders.

This OAU incident is a litmus test of the intellectual strength of the young leaders to fight their way out of suppression. Even if it takes court action, let it be. Even if it will cost them the degree, let them make the name that will be better than any degree. The university authorities have over the years used the threat of expulsion to continue their evil/criminal acts against students. It is only the students that can tell them that the old threat will no longer hold water, and by then, they will know that the SUG can unseat the VC. The so called university fraternities that claim to be saving the black Africans, this is the time to save your own, it is time to re-invent the spirit behind establishing the school confraternity in the first place, before the psychopaths took over. Every student should raise their voice and pen to subdue the wicked mechanization of the university authorities. If we can not do this simple duty, let non come here again to talk nonsense about anybody/govt, because it will be as a result of our own failure.

By the way, I was inside AAU Akungba sometime in 2012 to take some money in the ATM. I was listening to a female lecturer complaining bitterly how intellectually and politically weak the present generation of students were. She lamented that a lot of things happen that the students can oppose, either with court action or activism, but they are always docile. She said that some of them as lecturers see such and shake their head, cus they know what they would have done in their own time. She gave instance of a student that took unillorin to court over an issue and won. She was awarded damages by the school. How many can do that now, instead your mates will ask you shey you wan graduate?" Ehn!, after graduating, what happens, shey them dey house de lament, Abegi!
PoliticsNow Is The Time, Let The World Hear This. by 9jalyte(op): 12:19am On Aug 17, 2014
For years, every attempt to develop indigenous products have been sabotaged by the vested interests. We tried Ajiokuta steel to own the African market, those who felt we are born to depend not to be depended on, kept putting rods in our wheels of change. Our scientists tried developing drugs, they called it child's play, instead they felt that we will continue to be used for drug trials (Many of us do not know that some of the drugs donated to us here are for trial), remember the Pfizer trial with innocent children in the north. We are continually made to look bad, useless corrupt and worthless. But do you really think the world is right about you, don't you think their opinion is affecting even the way we see our selves.

My dear, this ebola issue has open another panorama. We have a drug developed by a Nigerian, a good move that will pull us out of those that will keep blackmailing us that they will stop giving us drugs if we do not do their bidding. More importantly, this attempt may be the beginning of good life for our young people that studied biochem, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology etc, who at the moment have virtually no place in Nigerian job market, because we are compelled to patronise foreign products.

Now is the time to boost the morale/guts of our scientist making effort to free us. The US has called our Ebola drug "insecticide", let us use one voice and let them know this generation is ready to face their dribbling. Just like we reached the world with #bringbackourgirls#. let us send message back to who wants to hear, to #leave-us-with-our-insecticide#. Please send this out in every social media you have. Now is the time to show some patriotism.

Infoay: Oga government pls do the needful o
He had done the needful. That is the best thing to do at this point, cus it is always good to cut the cancerous tumor off, despite how painful it may be. When Nigerians sound they way you did, it is clear that indirectly they support govt's move, but because it is almost a sin to speak in support of govt in our part of the world, we end up in passive comments like yours.

How can people be challenging authorities in the name of democracy. How can people be so mean as to watch sick people die all in the name of negotiating for better life. God certainly will not be happy with such people, so why should men be. The residency program is a proffesional training that will benefit them, there is no other profession enjoying such, in which govt funds their training to be consultants, and earn bigger pay from govt still. Instead of being thankful they are being arrogant. Let them go and train as consultants in where ever they like, when they finish, they can come and apply for jobs as consultants or set their own clinics. By the way, check the statistics, the govt hospitals take care of anly a small % of Nigerian's medical need. The healthcare in Nigeria is driven by private providers. So, there is no difference when the go or when they stay, Nigerians will continue where they have been going to before. How many people have access to FMCs. Please!

mount1ng: Can I ask one simple question, why do we cast stone on our own? Have ever heard a muslim casting stone on their own? Are we saying there is no fraud and deceit in other religion? Do you see it published. You will not, they protect their own.
No matter how much we judge them, God has the final say concerning them.
"Let he without sin cast the first stone"
" If you fail in one you've failed in all"
Did you just write that with a clear head? Please I never believed people like you still exist. What is "our own". That is the mentality that has finished this world, even in the christian faith, you keep protecting your own even when you are very sure you have sold your soul out. That is the beauty of Christianity, it is not a political party that you need to do image making, if it is bad, it is bad simple! Please heal your diseased spirit, it stinks. Christianity frees your tongue to speak the truth brother.

And what are you doing in Nairaland. Here is for Nigerians, you can join chadland or sudanland.

joywendy: yes, the most impossible things happen

like 200 girls missing for more than three months and haven't been brought back home, educated people drink water and salt for ebola, etc.

the list is endless
The only thing that will make me hate Nigeria is when it keeps producing people like you. You are a waste to your generation, cus it is obvious that nothing good can come from you. Just compare your comment and those of others. Fool!
PoliticsRe: ARD (doctors) Training Suspended? by 9jalyte: 5:09pm On Aug 14, 2014
Yea, tough decision for tough matters. This has taken soo long. You know, Hook's law of elasticity. The Drs have been dragging the govt over the years, and the govt has been obeying, in their fragile ego, they believe the the title "Dr" should get every knee on the ground. The two profesional bodies that have failed Nigerians in every sense is the ASUU and NMA.

Over the years, we left the health sector in the hands of Dr, the made a mess of if, and they have the guts to always hold the govt by the balls to make demands, using the lives of poor sick people as bait. That is a sin! You guys are luck we have not had real professional Health economist, health Policy/management professionals and Public health Administrator as Health sector managers, that when you will know what is what. Do you have another threat other than strike? but you have not "jammed" one who will give you the battle of your lives till you lose your licenses.

Imagine, govt is funding your housemanship, which is part of your training, govt is funding your residency, which you will use to negotiate for higher pay, govt is funding everything, yet, you will not even give back anything in good conscience, other than more money demand.
I like the idea, if you want to do residency, go and pay and do it where ever you like. Professions like law are there, they go to law school and do law attachement, how much does the govt spend on that, or you think legal profession is less important.
It is really getting too much, and people die out of their carelessness every day, no body cares, because of this they feel Nigerians are daft. I honestly feel many are daft though, judging from their reactions on this. This is not politics, it is health policy issue.
PoliticsRe: Could This Be What The Former Libya Really Looks Like? by 9jalyte: 11:28pm On Aug 12, 2014
chukxie: America and its allies knew what they were doing when they instigated Libyans against Gaddafi. Unfortunately most Libyans were clueless to the real intentions of America and its co - conspirators of evil. Look at the pitiful state Libya has descended into. Before the capture and subsequent killing of Gaddafi most Libyans never experienced hunger or what it felt like to be without basic amenities. But now hunger, lack, insecurity and insurgency have become commonplace in Libya. Just recently America shut down its Embassy in Libya because the country has gotten too unsafe for even 'mighty' America to allow its citizens to remain in it. The long and expensive CIA covet missions to overthrow Gaddafi and plunge Libya into cataclysmic chaos has been achieved. So, the natural thing to do was to close shop and head home. Libya's fragile security body has been left alone to battle raising insurgency and incessant fighting between different armed militias. I'm sure a lot of Libyans who supported the removal and subsequent killing of Gaddafi are regretting their actions. Libya under Gaddafi was a prosperous, independent and powerful country. Libyans never lacked anything. The government provided everything they wanted. Hundreds of thousands of migrants and expats called Libya home. Today, sadly, the story is different all because of rapaciousness and jealousy by America and its allies. Look around the world and all you see is chaos caused by America. Look at Egypt. Look at Iraq. Look at Afghanistan. Iraq was a prosperous country under Saddam Hussein. His high handedness brought remarkable peace between Sunni and Shia Muslims; Kurds; Christians and other minorities. However, since the overthrowing, incarceration and subsequent hanging of Saddam Hussein Iraq has had little or no peace. The country is now divided along sectarian lines between Sunni and Shia Muslims. Suicide bombings have become ubiquitous. Hardly a day passes by without the news of someone killing innocent Iraqis by blowing himself/herself up. Just recently, the most dreaded terrorist group the world has ever seen [IS] registered its presence by taking control of large swathes of land in Iraq, by killing Christians and beheading anyone whose ideology was different from theirs. All these and more tragedies were caused by the greediness of America and its allies. Egypt is going through a difficult phase in its history and America and its allies are standing by as Egypt plunges into disarray.God will judge all deeds committed by man!
Thank you my brother. Yesterday I was writing about this issues, I am glad people like you can read the hidden statements in the white smiles of the west. It was the same Libyan and Egyptian models of revolution that they experimented on Nigeria with the #bringbackourgirls# movement. Believe me, they were disappointed with the kind of response they got from Nigeria. They used all the tools they have, CNN and co, but I am glad Nigeria is unique in it's own way.
I have always maintained that I am scared of the kind of young people we have, who lack every sense of history, and can not decipher between mocking sympathy and true concern. Many were castigating govt for not allowing the oyibos to come and rescue the girls. The CNN was insulting our most respected soldiers, and govt. Nigerians joined the propagandists to make jokes with efforts of our soldiers and their authorities. Only a foolish child will disown the mother because she has epilepsy. They have adopted the psychological against Nigerians, to weaken every sense of Nigerianess in them, then they will try again, to use Nigerians to destroy Nigeria. but God will not let that happen. I only wish they few Nigerian youths that can reason can continue to counter these moves. I am more concerned about our northern brothers, because honestly, it is in the interest of the tyrannical countries that they remain the way they are. They will be willing tools in their manipulation moves etc. Eg, you can imagine how respected northern governors left Nigeria, west Africa, and Africa, to USA to report the president to their god-father, hoping that what will happen? It was an insult on them not on any other person. I wish they realize what they are sitting on.
Christianity EtcRe: Catholics v Anglicans In Igboland: setting a bad precedence by 9jalyte: 9:29pm On Aug 11, 2014
I hope this doesn't turn to irrational war. I want to make these comments, cus I think it is time for people to start acting in the right direction.

First I am a Catholic, I am also one of the few people who believe that church and indeed religion should be put to check. Concerning this issue raised, I will say outright that it is very wrong for the school administration to adopt such discriminatory position, which is not typical of catholic institutions. As long as they did not initially define the program as strictly for Catholics, they should have left the benches on a level ground.

That being said, I want also to point out some facts. in most institutions, especially international institutions, the admissions are made not only on scores, rather, they can say out of the 100%, 30% is on grades, 20 on motivation, 20 0n references, 20 on extra-curricular skills, 10 on publications. Even if you have all the 30% scores on grades, if you score low in the others, someone with lower score will get the chance. Why I said this is that the fellow in question may be right that she performed well in the questions, it may be that the school policy is the being a catholic has a mark, and why should anyone complain about it. Wrong as it may be I rather think that this is supposed to challenge the other religious bodies to venture into human capacity development, at least the Catholics have tried in that area.

I was telling my friend that since the missionaries left the church in the hands of Nigerians, we have been experiencing a lot of retrogression in true faith development. If you may recall, in fact the Anglicans performed wonderfully in human development better than the Catholics to an extent, cus the anglicans where the first to push their followers beyond college. The Catholics were doing massive education but limited most of the early educated ones to teaching jobs at PTC, or TTC. When they founders left, our clergy saw the church as their vine yard and forgot about the developmental aspect of evangelism. It is even the Catholics that to a large extent are still committed to development. Eg, search for the contributions of catholic relief services in the fight against HIV in Africa, in Nigeria search for the Catholic Caritas organization. These organizations employ everybody not minding the creed, which you will hardly see in other religious organizations.
bottom line is this, each month you are asked to pay tithe, please talk to your religious institutions to stop building towers of babel and invest in the human church. By the way, even abroad you will confirm what I am saying, if you check the scholarship bodies in Germany, one is catholic and one other is either Presbyterian. surprisingly, the catholic scholarship considers non-Catholics, but the other insisted that it is only for the members. so ...
PoliticsRe: Big Shame About LASU by 9jalyte: 8:06pm On Aug 11, 2014
Wow! I said it! finally the voices of the thinkers are echoing. I am glad people are now talking about this, i only hope that it will be heard. Every time, the professionals in Nigeria keeping playing politics with the future of our young people and no body questions it. The mess in our educational system, I keep saying, is not up-to 30% caused by government. We are unfortunate to have sets of university faculties that are as good as the man at Alaba market. Their ignorance, backwardness and fragile ego have caused us alot of damage. Nothing matters to them other than power, money and the bosom of our young girls.

The writer pointed it out exactly how it is. Same is with the admission policy. Universities are bent on creating an extension of the local communities by admitting mainly local applicants. When you see global university ranking, it is not all about how fine the university is, it is not a function of how much the government is giving the schools, factors like level of internationalization, quality of research the faculty are engaged to, among other things.

Now talking about research, the one lecturers have been using it to "chop govt mugu" all these while. Most of the researches conducted by the university lecturers abroad are not funded by government. Presently, I am working as a research assistant with my Prof, and at the same time finishing my master program. The research is funded by WHO. Here, and in most other schools across US, Canada and Europe, Lecturers are ranked, either in terms of pay and position, by the number of grant they have attracted to the department/school, and the quality/quantity of their research works. In fact, not long ago, Some top ranking profs were sacked from Columbia university New-york. The reason was that for some time, they had not attracted any grant to the department. it took the protest of the Alumni, who felt that the profs were wonderful and should not be removed because they did not attract fund. But In Nigeria, lecturers go on strike because government has not funded research for them. when they are ranked low, they blame government.
I am happy you raised this issue, cus I am one of those that look at Lasu and shudder. I expected Fashola, with all his swags, to create a model university that Africans will be proud of. Lagos is too cosmopolitan to follow some local style of university system. In fact, Lasu can really make Unilag look laughable. I don't even want to talk about the rest of the community colleges we have across the country. It's really a shame.
PoliticsRe: Obama Leaves Nigeria Out Of $110m Peacekeeping Fund by 9jalyte: 5:05pm On Aug 11, 2014
patrickmuf: No offense but reading through your post, you kinda agreed with same people you tagged as brainless... Most of your write up is propaganda based...
My dear, how do you differentiate propaganda and truth. If it is propaganda, good. Maybe that is what we need now - countering the bad news to save our name, and what is wrong in doing that. Let me take you on a little ride, I want you to open your mind and forget what ever you believed. Just go and do a little research on how countries use propaganda, and the tools they use in their propaganda.

Do you know the story of USA and Vietnam war? It is acclaimed to be the worst military outing the American ventured. Over the years, they have been battling to wipe that sorry image and ugly history of theirs. Now check American movies and Best seller books, go and read or see the movies made over the years and notice how they always try to reconstruct the fact by project elements of gallant performance in Vietnam. You will see an actor making comments like " I fought in Vietnam and made my Country proud, if you give me another chance, I will do it again". These kind of comments and imagery are consistently repeated in movies and books from the 80s till date. They try to graft into the mind of the world that they are heroes and many people see them in that light. In same way, if they want to make the world see any other country in bad light, they use same tools to operate. If I ask you, what is your idea of how Iraq is, I bet you will see it in the views of CNN. same way, if you ask one from Germany how Nigeria is, you sure will know what will be in their minds.
There is nothing like fellowship in international politics. Every country wants to outshine the other and they use every arsenal to achieve that. Why is CNN and BBC focusing on outside world and not their home countries, what is their aim. They have to keep defining the world for the world. Everybody must believe that theirs is the best and their actions are justified.
So, call it what ever you like, fine. The truth is that we do not understand the power of the media, in all the forms - music, movie, novels etc. we have been manipulated for so long that we do not own a mind of our own again, otherwise why would you be asking me such question, why
our people - even the educated class - been asking for support from every nation. We have lost it! We need to go back again and reconstruct our canons. Do you know why oyibos make cartoons like superman, spiderman etc for their little ones? those are the tools used to instil in them the spirit of being champions, of being patriotic and heroic. They grow up believing in them selves as heroes. on the contrary, we are continually bombarded with messages of how miserable we are, how the worst place to be born is Nigeria, how our life expectancy is 40 years. every time, one bad news or the other. That is psychological warfare. Now what is the effect - exactly what you are noticing in Nairaland now. You will read comments of souls infested with bitterness and hopelessness. you observe comments of people who have no single atom of patriotism in them.
My dear, no true child of a woman abandons his/her mother because she has epilepsy, or goes about telling her neighbors that her mother is useless, she can not cook well like other women. A word is enough for those who have brain to reason.
I have noticed that those who are quick to respond in criticizing Nigeria are those leaving abroad. Right now, I am studying abroad, and I know how many times I have engaged who ever into debates to defend Nigeria, and I have earned more respect than those who come here and behave like abandoned children. WE ARE AMONG THE GREATEST IN THE WORLD AND THE WORLD KNOW IT, THAT'S WHY THE WILL NEVER BE WILLING TO LET YOU DISCOVER YOUR STRENGTH. Thank God it is not for them to say, it is left for us to show.
PoliticsRe: Obama Leaves Nigeria Out Of $110m Peacekeeping Fund by 9jalyte: 12:03am On Aug 11, 2014
I want to thank people like Davitogreat, I was almost choking with the first brainless comments of some bubble heads roaming around niaraland, always looking for where to spill the excess bitterness in them. Very shameless fellows who are so proud to display their emptiness by insulting their own country thinking they are Gani Fawenmi. The world has engaged Nigeria on a psychological warfare, the aim is to destroy every sense of patriotism in the citizens, then they will implement the Egyptian and Libyan models of revolution - using the citizens to destroy the country. Every day, every where it is all about Nigeria - CNN, BBC, etc, just as if they were commissioned to burn Nigeria down. The most painful thing is that our young men, who I expected to smarter than the older generation are even showing indications of greater intellectual poverty. they can't see beyond the tips of their noses.

Have you asked your self, why did ECOMOG die. Who really destroyed ECOMOG, and why. Nigeria was the supper power that funded ECOMOG and tackled the west African crises without asking anybody for help. Nigeria was clearly seen as the God-father of west African, and a strong force in Africa. That obviously did not seem cool for some tyrannical countries that will never want any country to make them look irrelevant. Ofcource, for any super country to show her big brother gesture, it has to be in Africa, and all of a sudden, it was being clear that they may turn irrelevant and Nigeria becoming more relevant. Systematically, they used the UN peace keeping force to overshadow ECOMOG/Nigeria, and that was it. Now, they are cementing the long time plan of burying any possible African independent peace keeping force, and some are clapping. This dependence syndrome embedded in some of our people is becoming scary. Who cares if the fund Malawi, are we same?

It is painful that other countries respect Nigeria, I mean, if you have not gone out of Nigeria to see how the other African countries respect Nigeria, you will not understand. Nigeria is the last hope of the black nation, and it means alot to every black man. Any Nigerian that is playing into that strategic destruction plan of some vested interests should look himself in the mirror and call him self a FOOL. Yes, we are not perfect, but who is. do you think oyibos are as good as they project? What do you think you will gain by always messing your self up. We should all focus on rebuilding our intellectual infrastructure, that is the most decayed in Nigeria.

We do not need any support from any country, we can! in fact they should stop insulting us with those petty grants. Over the years they have been giving, what great change has taken place with those. Except we face our challenges, we can never be seen as a force to reckon with.
stop blabbing each time the cook one propaganda against Nigeria, cus if you do, you can as well consider your self as zombie, cus you have been manipulated to act the way some people want you to act and you acted exactly that same way. We will overcome this battle.
PoliticsRe: GEJ, Swallow Your Pride And Allow UN/US Fighter Jets To Bombard Sambissa by 9jalyte: 11:12am On Aug 09, 2014
when In read the comments of our young people, I get really scared. If we will leave our future in the hands of these kind of people, we may go to extinction. This is why I have always bothered why they have stopped teaching history in schools, it show on how our young men and women lack strategic thinking, because it takes one who understands global politics and societal trending to understand the implications of every decision/policy of govt.
Just a question, for those always calling Uncle Sam, and friends to come and help us, let them give us a reference of where they went for intervention and left it better than they met it. Just give me one eg. Nigeria, as a well respected nation is the interest of every nation. The bigger bros nations want to keep in check any emerging force from the last continent, for the other small African countries, we are there last hope. If we go down, they are doomed. No strong voice will emerge from Africa again. look at how egypt had been put into crises, Libya is a shadow of it's self, SA is just a cosmetic African nation, Kenya is having the same Nigerian headache. Every potentially strong Africa nation is facing one challenge or the other.
I expected smart thinkers to begin to do root cause analysis, bring every possible cause, enemy and threat to table and analyze the conspiracy theories critically. Something is obviously fishy, but we keep looking inwards. If we do not know who to trust, how come you want to invite some people to come in, just the way it is predicted that you may act. African is not a young continent, but we have been reasoning like political adolescents. It is time to face our troubles squarely. It is time for us to visit again that which worked for us - have an African peace keeping force. We can solve our problem, if we stop acting inferior.
Just a food for thought: There was an out break of ebola in west Africa, some white doctors were infected. Just immediately, a super serum came out and the doctors were treated. the rest were left to spread the disease and die. Question, Americans have spent so much money in military operations in Africa, and in HIV and others, and are ready to spend more money if they were allowed to come in for our Chibok girls, but they cannot afford to leg go a few vial of this serum to tackle the ebola now before it gets out of hand. I want those with brain to reason around this. And please, it will do you go to read well and wide, it will save you and our society the embarrassment of childish comments.
PoliticsRe: US Wins Control Of Half-billion Dollars Corrupt Gains Of Abacha’s Loot by 9jalyte: 5:00pm On Aug 08, 2014
Ok, every year US is busy playing santa, helping us recover the endless billions Abacha looted. I am beginning to wonder the motive of this, is it guilty conscience on the death of Abacha or is there another thing in the pipeline. I have no doubt, this whole return of Abacha's loot is a pointer to something we have not figured out, but let's thanks them though.

Now the big question, why Abacha always! the man is dead, we have rejoiced/mourned him, why still reminding us of Abacha. What did that man do to US. If they are really honest in their gestures, why not help us recover the loots of our living thieves, or are they afraid of them, or their sophistication can not locate the other loots. Since past 15 years, the amount of money looted in Nigeria cannot be compared in anyway to what they world kept away for Abacha. I ask again, almighty US, are you saying your eyes only see the loots of dead men.

I can only point to some possibilities: this Abacha loot are always used to keep Nigeria indebted to them, as "big bros", or It is a continuous way of justifying an action which hunts some people's conscience, Or still, there is something behind we have not figured out. Let them help us identify the loots from our living leaders, if the are really transparent. Our interest now is to prosecute and punish the living and not always repeating the cliche of Abacha loot, it is becoming boring. Another possibility is that they know where the other loots are, and are using them to blackmail some of our leaders for whatever purpose - we know how it works.
In Fact, next time, if they have no news of the loot of someone alive, they should hold their peace, after all, we did not make our budget based on Abacha's loot. It becoming too much for these fellows that will not leave Nigeria alone. And before I forget, they should also help us blacklist those buying stolen crude from Nigeria. Every time we hear how Nigerian are corrupt, but someone is funding the stealing of crude from Nigeria, CNN will never talk about the Oyibo crime. Ok o.
