All indigenous Niger Delta tribes should be put on notice immediately. Ijaws are embarking on land grabbing mission across several fronts in the Niger delta. They have done a lot of damages and they have their eyes on Akwa-Ibom. There are no ijos in most places in River State, they only have four L.G.As in Bayelsa. Ijaw is the new fulani of the South south. Ekpeye Ogba Egbema Abua Ahoada Ikwerre Kalabari Okrika Ndoki Etche Opobo Bonny Andoni Ogoni All these are not ijaw people. Ask any ijaw land grabber to show you European documents confirming any ijaw claim.
This was Boro's Niger Delta map where several ethnic groups were conscripted without consultation.
Stop Ijaw expansionism now!!!

signed to live languages previously not Tecltoned apart, while thirteen moro languages were added iu which versions published by others have been circulated by| the B.RB.S. AVo now lind that to these[ thirteen we must add three more, and that, Ijo and Nimbi (or Brass), in the Niger I Delta, must be numbered as separatei tongues. Thus, with the - nine fresh versions already recorded, we have thirteen names to add to -17-1 making altogether .IS7 languages, in which our society has helped to produce or circulate the Scriptures. This includes the complete Bible in 129 languages, besides the Now Testament in 11S more.
The Brass were actually the Nembe people and they obviously have a different language from the ijos as at 1925, so you can imagine the difference in 1800s.

Alabo7978: Enculturation was never a myth. Ijo clans still practice it today. If it was a myth, why did okwarazurumba mbanaso change his name to Jubo jubogha?? You're seeing facts before your eyes, you're calling it myth. Maybe the same way you also enculturated Jonathan an Ogbia man. Until you post a European authored account, your decades of falsehood in about to tear down right before you. Ijaws are recent migrants East of the delta, but rather than settle amicably, they are rather on several land grabbing missions (Bonny, Kalabari (New Calabar), Okrika, Opobo, Andoni, Ndoki, Obolo etc) You may have succeeded with the Itshekiri probably because there was no record. But you see this other ones are a classic effort in futility. Keep building castles in the air. There are incontrovertible records. Your only solution is to try and delete all available historical data. Think of it like formatting the entire internet. Until you successfully do so, your efforts will continue to be futile. You can also ask another fraud to author a revised edition of history. The internet is the greatest undoing of you and your co-travelers. |

Anonymous15: Lol, look at the 13th line of your excerpt which reads "The eboes who are from a neighboring country..." Open your eyes, I've always said you have jaundice. Look at the 13th line of the first paragraph.
Comprehension is a difficult thing for you more especially. And the brass people are Nembe people, and I am a Nembe man, and we trace our ancestry to ijo.
Still you failed woefully to answer my question on why Bonny is called OKOLOMA by themselves and okoloBA, ebane etc by the ibos. And why were ibos slaves? Why were they enculturated to answer names that weren't igbotic. You're using ogidi and inwelle as instance but does that change the fact that ogidi sprung from Igbo? No! We all know this because the dialect are similar. You are bringing this logic, but don't want to bring the same logic because it will also link OKOLOMA or the brass people to their ancestry just as ogidi is to Igbo. The double standards is sickening. I again ask you, Why were they enculturated to answer okoloama-ijo names. Why not okwarazurumba mbanaso? Why change it to Jubo jubogha? Yet you dodged again like matrix. Take a look at the 13th line of your Excerpt (the first paragraph) It clearly stated that the eboes ARE FROM A NEIGHBORING COUNTRY. I will unfollow this online grabbing thread and allow you all to continue in your foolishness. Bye bye. The only place the word acculturation/enculturated ever appeared and existed is in ijaw doctored media and literature. So much it has become a figment of gullible people's imagination. It has no basis in real life. There was no such record in history because it never existed. The reason why the Jaja dynasty won the Supreme Court judgment, is exactly because of this same reason. All their accounts of history is doctored. |

Eke40seven: The question, where was Ijaw/Ijo/Ejo mentioned in all this?
You are arguing about Okoloma and Obane, in the same book. Ignore that mischievous criminal. The Igbos were the first inhabitants of Ebane alongside the Brass people who were NOT Ijaws! Even at that the author also described the Brass people as coming from their country North-west of Bonny.
Ubani/ibani was the igbo dialect in Bonny. The Kings of Bonny were igbos The natives igbos The slave owners igbos etc Chief Fubara who the author met was identified as a stranger and not a native of Bonny. Yet the same Bonny is peopled by Fubara's today, they had better start shopping for a new name. Let those miscreants and their allies keep deceiving themselves at the appropriate time, the Memoirs of Captain Hugh Crow of Liverpool will be their greatest nemesis.

sinteiking: Let me go to your level of Bigotry.
I insist Igbo is not an ethnic group but a political franchise.
If it is not bigotry, then I don't see why any ethnic group should be reduced to a mere political franchise.
Most people accused Buhari and most Northerners of tribal bigotry but here we are displaying bigotry.
If Ijaws are not a ethnic group, then Igbos are not an ethnic group.
If you check my history on this forum, I have defended Igbos especially during the unnecessary militarization of the Igboland by the Federal Govt.
I am disappointed that some Igbos are no different from some of the bigoted northern oligarchs which I have been defending the Igbos against.
I now know why some person will only shout marginalization when they are not benefitting from the center Most of this won't be necessary if people are being objective and not selfish. Imagine telling people whose ancestors have been in a place as far back as 1700's (thoroughly documented history, not Alagoa said) that they aren't indigenous. That their mother tongue that they speak is foreign and should be discarded(first in Nigerian history). Meanwhile historians couldn't identify your own ancestors. Pray tell me, if this isn't ethnic revisionism at it purest form, then what is it? The same Alagoa is still parading himself today. Supervising what he engineered. You take offense when someone says Ijaw is a political franchise. Have you heard any other sociocultural group attach lovers of their ethnic group to their name the way INC says lovers of Ijaw Nation? It is a slimy trap to engulf and annihilate the unsuspecting. |
Politics › Re: The True Identity Of Bonny/Opobo(UBANI) People Facts Versus Fiction by 9Pluto(op): 11:45am On Dec 06, 2021 |
Igboid: sinteiking:
The people speak Igbo as mother tongue. You must think they are dunce if there are not some of them who identify as Igbo.
The locals don't identify as Ijoid. They identify as Bonny and Opobo, while being members of IYC and INC like the rest of non Ijoid groups in SS riverine terrain. There is a political and ethnic Ijaw in the SS . Ask around if you don't know the difference.
Yes there's a historical distortion and have proven it here. Let me list it for you.
✓Alagoa fraudulently reduced Igbo presence in Bonny to Slaves
✓Early European records proved this to be false as Slaves can't be kings in Bonny, but we know that Early Bonny kings identified themselves to be of Igbo descent
✓Bonny and Opobo people have been repeatedly told that their Igbo language came from Igbo slaves and that keeping it makes them descendants of Igbo Slaves, that the only way they be Indigenes of Bonnyland is if they throw away their Igbo language
✓ To this end, there have been aggressive campaign anchored by the fraudulent historian himself Alagoa, since 1990s to make Opobo and Bonny people drop their Igbo language and culture for Kalabari language they dubiously termed "Ibani" language.
These are not claims, these are all verified facts!
Every clan in the Igbo ethnic group speak an Igboid language that is mutually intelligble to each other. In Ijaw, Epie-Attisa, Udekeme Engenni speak an Edoid language that is closely related to Isoko language. The Ogbia, Abureni, Andoni, Abua, Odual, Obulom (Abuloma people) all speak an Ibibiod language. None of these languages are in any way related to Ijaw language. If that's not a franchise, I don't know what else it is. How can people who speak unrelated full fledged languages, with each language having it's own sub dialects be a member of same ethnicity? Does it make sense to you?
These people never identified themselves as Ijaws before the war. We can't decide for them who they want to be, but we want them to make that decision with all the available facts and information being made available to them, so that they can make an INFORMED decision. Because right now, every Opobo and Bonny person that have been embracing Ijaw language that I met, were doing so believing that his ancestors were Ijaws and that they switched to Igbo Language because of Igbo Slaves. That's the narrative Alagoa and the British post civil war propaganda sold.
There is a historical distortion, and the aim here is to make it a general knowledge that Alagoa and Ijaw nationalists from Bayelsa distorted Bonny and Opobo history. Atleast you now know that such distortion exists, likewise anyone else that would stumble into this thread in the future. We used this thread for brainstorming. We will soon spread the message using all available social media platforms. Until it reaches all and sundry. Our aim is basically to stimulate a discussion on the the topic, to force the topic into limelight.
Me and you can't be here on nairaland identifying local folks of Igboid Enugu, Aba, Onitsha, or Ijoid Bonny, Opobo, Okirika or kalabari.
Trust me, the people don't know anything. None of them have read any of the historical materials on Bonny and Opobo that we shared here. All they always had was Alagoa fraudulent distortions being repackaged and shoved down their throats yearly by IYC and INC. Don't not mind them bro. Imagine someone coming to tell Oyo people they are fulani. I am sure most Oyo people will not even answer them. The only reason ijaw people are concerned here is because they know a can of worms is about to be exposed. Like you have said, the message is simple. To let every true Bonny and Opobo born native make an informed decision from a historical point of view and not from Alagoa's fantasies. |

Politics › Re: The True Identity Of Bonny/Opobo(UBANI) People Facts Versus Fiction by 9Pluto(op): 10:55am On Dec 06, 2021 |
Igboid: Opobo and Bonny associate with Ijaw because Ijaw as we know it today is a political franchise, anyone in the riverine terrain can join. Even Edoid speakers like Epie/Atissa, Engenni, Udekeme, etc all identify as Ijaws today even though they continue to speak their native Edoid language. They understand Ijaw to be a political franchise.
The Ibibiod groups who are recently trying to form an independent United group of the own, which includes the Abua, Odual, Ogbia, etc also speak their Ibibiod language at home. They all understand that Ijaw is a political franchise for easy access of oil contract deals and other lucrative dealings with oil companies and the FG. Ijaw is not making any effort to surplant the native non Ijoid language of these groups.
But in case of Opobo and Bonny, because they are Igboid, Ijaws are not comfortable with just the political franchise tag, they want a cultural suicide. They consider the Igbo a soft target. Hoping to rally on the prevalent Igbophobic sentiments prevalent in the region.
They want Bonny and Opobo language replaced outrightly. To this aim, historical distortions have been made by Alagoa and perpetuated for decades unchallenged and regrettably by the Igbo Academia, so much that they have started taking the form of the truth. The Bonny and Opobo people are being Hoodwinked into believing that their Igbo language was an alien language, while Kalabari language was their old language.
Our point is that if Bonny and Opobo people are going to Change their Igbo language to Kalabari language, let them atleast do so knowing the truth that their ancestors always spoke Igbo and were Igbos. Let them know that their Igbo language didn't come to them through Igbo slaves but through their Kings and their first ancestors.
Let their decision to throw away their Igbo language be that of an INFORMED decision, and not a manipulated one that it currently is.
This thread is not about making Bonny and Opobo people accept Igbo. It's about correcting historical distortions that demonized the Igbo language in Bonny and Opobo,by presenting it as a language of slaves, when all historical facts shows that the early founders of Bonny and Opobo not only were Igbo speakers, but identified themselves as a people of Igbo descent.
This is the meat of this thread.
I hope you understand better now! Truer words have not been spoken on this thread. |
