When I made a post sometimes ago about the true identity of Bonny and Opobo sometimes ago, I never envisaged an identity crises would come up so soon. That particular post was an eye-opener as it brought out series of buried historical documents about who Bonny people were.

Right now, the game plan for the Brown Omuso Buoye group is clear for the discerning minds. The interesting thing is there narrative continues to rely on fabricated ijaw narrative of Bonny origin effectively doctored by Alagoa. So it is no surprise Buoye and his clowns are quoting Alagoa.

Imagine the effontery to question His Majesty, King Pepple's ancestry, claiming they are Strangers. That the Buoye group has been in Bonny/Finima before Pepple(this particular line should enter the Guiness Book of world record for the most unbelievable lie. Imagine the Buoye group talking about igbo speaking ibani Chiefs. The same igbos who first settled in Bonny as Kings and Natives.

This should be an eye-opener and an opportunity for real Bonny people to go and dig up historical records and effectively put the land grabbers where they belong. Most of the people causing this confusions in Bonny today are mostly people that were often born out of weddlock and became bonny indigenes through their maternal bloodline from non-native ijaw groups. Now may be the best time to also properly define bonny heritage whether as matrilinear or patrilinear. This is a grand opportunity for his majesty to set the records straight about who is who in Bonny for posterity sake.

Below is a piece of the fabricated press release that the Buoye Omuso group rely on to install their non-existent Amadabo.

The Finima part of Bonny local government area has been embroiled in some leadership tussle recently which has unfortunately resulted in some form of bloodshed. While a section of the Brown(Omuso Brown) house has made their claims and installed their so called Amadabo of Finima, another section sought the counsel of the Hart House, got the recognition of His Majesty, The Amanyanabo of Bonny and also capped their own Chief recently. In both cases, supporters of each block have been making reference to one single entity—history. The question is; if both parties are referencing history (a series of past events that happened at a time), why are their claims different from one another?
Well, the simple answer is that Bonny history as well as the history of a vast majority of the riverine people in Rivers State has been continuously falsified. This is despite the fact that they were among some of the earliest southerners in Nigeria to come in contact with Europeans and have most of their history well documented than most other parts of Nigeria. Unfortunately, most people including the youths only go to school routinely but do not read or ask critical questions or conduct their own research.
Parts of the narratives I have listened to about the Finima crisis was from no other person but Asari Dokubo(Ediabali himself). In his account in support of the Amadabo group, he made a lot of claims which include the following:
He questioned King Pepple’s authority over Finima
He practically questioned the Manilla Pepples’s identity in Bonny, claiming they are strangers in Bonny who met Bonny Aborigines
Though I am interested in knowing where these strangers came from, however, I will leave this for the Pepple family to address as there is more than enough historical record on Bonny and its indigenous people devoid of recent Nigerian authored fabrications.
He also talked about Bonny people chasing away some earlier Amanyanabo until Europeans intervened
Truth is no Amanyanabo has ever been deposed in Bonny. Except for maybe the current Kings father who was forced into fleeing Bonny when Isaac Adaka Boro attacked his palace during the civil war, none of the other Kings who abdicated his throne was an Amanyanabo including the Great Jaja of Opobo. Amanyanabo is a recent traditional title.
He claimed Kalabari and Bonny has similar tradition and to a lesser extent Okrika and Nembe
I do not know to what extent he wants to take his claim about Kalabari and Bonny having similar tradition, however Kalabari and Bonny people both have different origin. Truth is Bonny people are of mixed origin and are not people of a single ethnicity. According to Captain Hugh Crow of Liverpool in his memoirs, they were originally a mix of majority Ngwa and Ndoki Igbos(King Pepple, Halliday, Asimini, Hart etc) and Brass people. This is why the igbo language, culture and tradition(masquerades, music, musical instruments, body marks also known as uri) continue to persist in Bonny till tomorrow. Bonny natives were traditionally known to have two short perpendicular tribal marks beside their eyes which is typical of the igbo tribal mark.
Of course, there have been later migrants from both Arochukwu people and parts of Kalabari(who are mostly found in Finima).
He claimed Finima was in existence before Manilla Pepple’s house
Well, most early European accounts of Bonny did not record the existence of Finima community despite the fact that they were already trading with the Pepple’s around the 18th century(1701-1800). This is a significant pointer that Finima community was not in existence during the reign of Opubo the great. In case Asari or any other person would want to come up with all those false narratives about 1500’s, the truth is, Bonny was not in existence then.

Like I said earlier, most parts of the riverine communities (Okrika, Kalabari, Andoni etc) of the current Rivers State are heterogenous in origin. Before the arrival of ijaws east of the Niger delta, some of the most documented people on the east coast were, the Igbos(including the Breetche/mgburuichi), Efiks, Ibibios, Mongs, Quaws, Ottam, Brass and Apias. However, some of this people have been supplanted today. It is on record that a significant section of Okrika(Nwa creek/Wakirike) were igbo who originated from the Afam. Some of them like Asari himself confirmed, still speak the igbo language and in the recent past was ruled by King Ohakwe. The same thing applies to the heterogenous origin of Kalabari(New Calabar). This were originally efik/ibibiod people who later mixed up with igbos and ijaws of which the Ediabali lineage was one of the most influential.
However, what is worrisome in most of these places is the ijaws penchant of falsifying history or records and claiming that most of these localities are exclusively ijaws despite obvious linguistic and cultural differences. Some ijaw revisionists have continued to claim ijaw is the 4th largest ethnic group in Nigeria ahead of the Efik/Ibibio and Tiv. Meanwhile, it is on record in Awolowo’s speech in 1967 that while the Efik/Ibibio had a population of about 2.5 million people, Ijaws were a mere seven hundred thousand (700,000) people.
Yet several recalcitrant elements from this group have continued to make false claims including recent claims that Ijaws are indigenous to Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Akwa-Ibom and Cross-River Sate. Some have even included Ogoja in an as shown in the picture below. One funny thing is that if the so called ijaw groups assemble today, they are going to communicate in English language because a Okrika man would not understand a Gbaramaturu man, a Bonny man would not understand an Ogbia man etc yet ijaws continue to lump people of entirely different origins together under a false ijaw franchise. To solve the language confusion, they are proposing the replacement of indigenous languages in some localities while suggesting the formation of a new language by borrowing words from the different groups in the delta to form a new language. The first of such a dubious project in Nigeria.
This is a wake up call to Niger Delta communities in general and Bonny people in particular. The youths most especially need to read and properly research their identity so they would not be conferred a false identity due to false narratives. It is not enough to go to be literate, as one has to be capable of critical thinking and start questioning several false narratives being peddled around in the name of history to avoid the illusory truth effect…in psychology, a situation where you hear the same falsehood over and over again till you begin to believe it.

Long live Bonny Kingdom!!
Long live Rivers State!!!
Long live Federal Republic Nigeria!!!!

First and foremost let me tell you all a little story for the avoidance of doubt. I am from the Agbo ethnic group in Cross River State. We are located in Abi Local Government Area which is a coastal settlement and unarguably the smallest LGA in Cross River State in terms of landmass and to a large extent population – slightly a few thousands ahead of Bakassi LGA. My fore bearers both on my maternal and paternal side were given the opportunity to serve in then Eastern Nigeria regional government.
My grand uncle Dr.S E Imoke of blessed memory was an all influential cabinet minister in the regime of Dr M I Okpara. He held the Trade portfolio and was also Finance minister at the time until the unfortunate incident of January 1966. He was the longest serving Education minister. His son the Urbane Liyel Imoke is the immediate past Governor of our state “Cross River”.
During the outbreak of the war, he was the Biafran Commissioner for Refugees and Humanitarian affairs. One of my maternal uncles also served as Permanent Secretary in the ministry of health at Enugu. My maternal grand father was also a frontline member of the Eastern Nigeria regional house of Chiefs.
Outside my family circles, another great Cross Riverian M T Mbu was nominated a Federal Minister for Transport and Navy by the Igbo controlled NCNC. It’s on record that Mbu was Nigeria’s first Ambassador to the UK, UN and the USA. He is from Boki in Cross River state. Boki is another minority ethnic group just like my native Agboland. The Igbos gave him the opportunity to excel ahead of their own worthy sons at that time. He is the father to a Senator MT Mbu jr. Another person who is noteworthy is the late Chief Michael Eta-Ogon who was the Administrator of the oil rich PortHarcourt province in the first republic. He is also from the same Boki with Mbu. Thomas Weir Ikpeme an Efik man from Odukpani in my native Cross River was the longest serving Permanent Secretary in the Eastern Regional Ministry of Education.
The key point is that the Igbos were comfortable with us “the minorities” that was why they entrusted education solely in our hands. Not only education but other critical areas like Public Works and Transport etc. N U Akpan an Ibibio man from Akwa Ibom state was the technocrat behind the eastern regional public service. He was the Secretary to the regional government.
Thompson Akpabio, an Annang man from Ukana in present day Akwa Ibom state was the regional minister of health. The former Governor of Akwa Ibom state Godswill Akpabio is his nephew. There were other high ranking cabinet ministers of minority origin like one of our family good friends, HRH Amanyanabo E P Okoya, Agada III the Ibenanowei of Ekpetiama in Bayelsa State, Chief. Erekosinma of Rivers and a whole lot of others who are too numerous to mention.
During the secessionist struggle, an Ogoni from Rivers state, Chief.Ignatius Kogbara was Biafra’s Ambassador to Britain. My dad’s friend Chief. Lekam Okoi, from Idomi in present day Yakurr LGA of Cross River state was one of Ojukwu’s trusted drivers. He is today a successful lawyer and a former commissioner in the Federal Character Commission.
Capt Akpet a minority from Cross River was also Ojukwu’s dependable aide on intelligence.
Secondly for the avoidance of doubt, aside these political appointments, our people enjoyed immense goodwill from the Igbo dominated region by way of social security. My dad’s immediate elder brother received a scholarship from the regional government that enabled him study for a PhD in soil science. He is the first man “arguably” in Africa to obtain a doctorate in Soil science. I have friends across the Niger Delta whose parents, uncles, aunties and relatives also benefited from the benevolence of the Eastern regional government.
Unarguably our Niger Delta region received it’s last major facelift in terms of infrastructure when we were under the Eastern region. Till the abolition of the regional system of government, the Eastern region was the most united region, they was never a recorded case of ethnic skirmish or BLOOD letting between the Igbos and other minority groups.
During the pogrom of 1966 we all carried the same cross to “Golgotha”, both Igbos and Eastern minorities were maimed in their thousands across Northern Nigeria by the blood thirsty HausaFulani/Northern folks without blinking an eye. It doesn’t really matter if you were Igbo, Ijaw, Efik or a miniature Agbo person.
I never really wanted to bore you with reading this lengthy essay but it’s my moral responsibility to tell the truth at all times. I was thought by my fore bearers never to distort history and to always separate facts from fictions.
If we were not marginalized by the Igbos during the “analogue” age, how then can the Igbos marginalize us in this digital age?

Except you are being mischievous or trying to divert attention from the crux of this thread. What is all this noise about Agbaye/Agbayi? When does the anglicized spelling of words start denoting it's meaning or interpretation. I would have expected you to maybe find out the meanings of these names but your are here obstinately telling us Agbaye isn't Agbayi. If another person spell Agbai, you would still tell us it means a different name. Same way you would say Woke isn't Nwoke, Nwike isn't Wike, Eze isn't Ezeh etc

I also find amusing your preponderance to ijawnize the eastern Delta with Ndoki as Aminadokiari, Andoni as Idoni (the interesting thing here is this hasn't been found in any European account except in the typical fabrications).

Nice attempt at telling us how the ijaws escorted the Ngwa man Alagbarinye from imo river en route Bonny. You are doing a great job propagating the ijaw myth of origin.

Any student of history knows that ijaws originated from the western Delta and are recent migrants to the eastern Delta. Igbos were already in Bonny before the Brass people arrived. The brass then were definitely not ijaws.

Anyone making claims here should show us records of non Nigerian authored historical documents any other thing is the typical tales by moonlight that Nigerians are saddled with.

*The economy of the former Eastern Region was planned from ground up by the US consulting firm Arthur D. Little.*

*Dr. Azikiwe brought them and they worked with M I Okpara at first, then with Sam Otti and later Eluwa who headed the Civil Service and later with Sir Louis Phillip Odumegwu Ojukwu who at the time was the Chairman of the Eastern Nicerian Development Corporation (ENDC) and also the Chairman of the Eastern Nigeria Commodities Board (ENCB)*

Louis Phillip Odumegwu Ojukwu also sat as Chairman of 15 multinational companies at the time - John Holt, PZ, Michelin, Costain, Thomas Wyatt, Guinness, GB Ollivant etc

He was so rich that he single handedly funded the establishment of the Lagos Stock Exchange but refused to list his company there for fear of losing control

His photo still hangs proudly on the floor of that exchange as its first chairman

*Arthur D Little also worked with a coterie of young Eastern Nigerian economists at the time - Pius Okigbo (PhD Northwestern), Ukwu I. Ukwu (PhD Cambridge), Chukwu Sunday Okongwu (PhD Harvard). These young men in their early twenties worked with Arthur D Little to plan our economy from scratch*

I know this because Ukwu I Ukwu taught me at Nsukka and I also worked in Dr Chu SP Okongwu's economic planning firm right during and after grad school in Nigeria.

*Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe sent Dr Akpabio (MA Columbia) who at the time was the East's Minister of Education on an extended tour to universities in Michigan and New York for collaboration in key fields like medicine, engineering,, surveying and photogrammetry and business administration.*

*UNN was the first school in Nigeria to offer many of these courses.* Ibadan at the time taught mostly Classics, General Science and later Medicine

*Palm oil, Palm Kernel, Coal, Cocoa (from Ikom), Coffee from Obudu and later petroleum from firstly Izombe - Oguta area and later from Oloibiri in Ijaw land drove the economy of the East*

*In terms of development, the East started late, compared to the West.*

*Development and education had started in Lagos and Abeokuta right after Beecroft occupied Lagos in 1850s and made it a British colony. Lagos and the SW thus had more than a 70 year headstart over the East in terms of total gross capital formation and the platform that it gave for growth.*

*But after the implementation of Arthur D Little's recommended growth plan, the East's economy grew at more than 9.2%, starting from 1958 till 1967 when the war began*

*At over 9%, the Eastern Region in this period, had the fastest growing economy on earth consistently for 9 years and was estimated to equal Western Nigeria by 1978 (in terms of total gross capital formation) and then overtake the Western Region after that.*

The civil war truncated that momentum and the East never recovered after that.

*Louis Philip Odumegwu Ojukwu brought his industrial influence to bear on the growth plan as he singlehandedly pushed for the establishment of not just industrial estates but industrial corridors in the region.*

*An industrial estate is localized. An industrial corridor joins two or more industrial estates to form an industrial conurbation.*

*Industrial estates sprang up across the East TransAmadi in PH.*

*Aba for light industries.*

*Umuahia for biotechnology.*

*Emene in Enugu for steel and industrial automation.*

*Nkalagu, PH and Calabar for cement and building materials.*

*Onitsha as an emporium to drive retail trading.*

*Obudu in Cross River for dairy, holidaying and corporate meetings.*

*Because he was the chairman of 15 multinational companies at the time, he used his influence to compel many of them to buy into the East's industrialization plan.*

*Okpara also partnered with Israel for the setting up of industrial farms and plantations - seedling production, extension services, assistance to farmers etc.*

*So plantations (cashew nuts, palm kernel, cocoa, coffee, timber etc) sprang up in Oghe (Enugu State), Okigwe (Abia State), Obudu, Itumbenuzor, Akamkpa all in Cross River state and in various parts of Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Abia etc.*

*Okpara personally delivered some of the seedlings himself by driving behind the trucks that did the delivery.*

*Sir Louis Phillip Odumegwu Ojukwu pushed for the establishment of 3 major cement plants in the region - Nkalagu, Eastern Bulkcem in PH and Calabar cement factory in Calabar.*

*Nkalagu and PH opened before the war started in 1967. Everything for the take off of the Calabar cement factory was purchased but the war truncated its take off.*

*In 1970, Governor Esuene of the newly-created Cross River State opened Calcemco plant to the appause of many.*

*Three industrial corridors were planned also planned for the East*

*The Emene-Nkalagu Industrial corridor which was to focus on automobiles, building materials and industrial automation. Kaiser Motors in the US at the time (it has since been acquired) had agreed to build a car plant in Emene and a plant for car engines. That corridor was to stretch for almost 100 miles*

*The second industrial corridor was to stretch between PH and Aba. So industrial centers were set up in Trans Amadi and in Aba and over a ten to 15 year period, these two centers were to be linked by many feeder industries that would be located on the highway joining both cities.*

*Okpara had hoped that over time, the PH-Aba industrial corridor would follow the old road between Port Harcourt and Enugu and join with the Emene - Nkalagu industrial corridor to create a massive industrial cornubation that almost imitates the almost 200 kilometer Ruhr Industrial Valley in Germany built under Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck*

*Onitsha was to drive the East's Retail economy and so the market was built there as an Emporium...to attract buyers from all over Nigeria and West and Central Africa so they could come spend their money in the East.*

*Dubai would copy this same model 50 years later and implement it successfully but on a global scale. Onitsha market achieved its purpose by 1958, two years after the East achieved self government. It became the preferred destination for retail and bulk shoppers from a over West Africa and even Cameroon, Gabon and Congo. This gave the Anambra Igbo a head start in retail trading...an advantage that they enjoy till date.*

*All of these development and growth projects were centrally driven by the Eastern Nigeria Development Corporation - ENDC and the revenues were centrally aggregated into the account of the Eastern Nigerian Commodities Board (ENCB). Both groups were headed by Sir Louis Phillip Odumegwu Ojukwu*

*Funds for development came mostly from 3 sources.*

*1. Local revenues from the export of cocoa(Ikom and Itumbenuzor), coffee (Obudu and Arochukwu), timber (Akamkpa) Coal (Enugu-Udi), Palm oil (Rivers, Imo, Abia), Palm kernel (Rivers, Imo, Abia)*

*2. Direct Foreign Investments*

*3. Loans from Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC)*

*Umuahia was to midwife the Easts' biotechnology industries which explains why Golden Guinea Brewery and the Root Crop Research Instutute were established there.*

*Obudu because of its pristine hills and its fresh weather was to be a holiday resort for many as well as a primary center for a dairy industry that just started before the war commenced. Obudu Cattle Ranch was the first in a series of investments that got scuttled in Obudu by the war.*

*Lastly, oil was discovered late. Chief Nwodo, Eastern Nigeria's first Minister for Trade (father to the past Ohaneze Chairman) negotiated the first contracts with Shell on a 50-50 investment and sharing basis.*

*Virtually all of the East's oil assets were seized by the Federal Government under Gowon with no compensation paid till date. The Federal Government simply inherited the East's 50% slot and paid nothing for it. Today everyone profits from it*

*Most of the catalytic cracking and downward refineries that NNPC would later build were in the plans that the Eastern Regional Government had for the region.*

*Today, some of those plants are located in far away Kaduna and no mention is ever made of the East.*

*Every Nigerian today depends on that oil to survive including states that claim that they can survive from internally-generated revenues.*

*I believe that rather than whine everyday, we Igbos should sit down and learn our history...take a look at the growth plans that got scuttled in 1967 and see how we can work to together to pick up the pieces and build again from scratch*

Eastern region Never used the money from whatever crude oil in Ijawland for development.
Oil was discovered in Oloibiri in 1956 quite alright, but by 1957, oil was also discovered in Igboland in Afam Ndokiland! Which was part of Aba division then, in bigger quantity than was found in Oloibiri because those in Oloibiri have dried up, but Afam still produces until today!
This is the fact those lazy lots usually leave out to drive home their brainless "Ibos want Awa Oyel" agenda.

Secondary, Eastern region never received any revenue from crude oil until during the war when it was due for shell to pay.
This is because, she'll had to offset the money they invested in exploration and exploitation of the oil first.

I attached receipts of crude oil revenue by Nigeria from 1960 downwards.
Bear in mind that Eastern region stopped in 1966 when Okpara was deposed.

So how exactly did Okpara, Eastern region and Ndiigbo in particular use Oloibiri oil to fund the region?
How exactly were Ijawland marginalized?
The bulk of Eastern region resources came from Coal in Enugu and palm oil in Igboland and Ibibio land, and as well as PAYE tax system that Chief Imoke introduced, with most business owners being Igbos, we were also contributing the bulk of the tax used to run the region.

Clark is a clown and we should never stay silent and allow these minorities parrot those senseless stories.

The sames old Eastern region whose footprints dots the landscape like a colossus. From the Trans Amadi industrial hub in Portharcourt and it's presidential hotel, to the industrial hub in Enugu, the cattle ranch in Obudu, the rubber and palm plantations littered all over the place. The scholarship board with its numerous beneficiaries etc

Liars can keep lieing but records would always prove them wrong.

Alagoa saw the need to sneak in his false ijaw identity in his books that was why he had to doctor his accounts of Bonny and other surrounding communities. Unfortunately for him, he was found out.

The reviewer in question had a more expectation of the book. He expected references for the photographs and footnotes, which was not provided in the book. He had also expected him to have used more sources from abundant materials available rather than rely too much on the works of fombo. Fombo had the original documents but Alagoa copied way too much from it. "In the meantime, Ibadan University press could consider giving us Mr.Fombo's original text.
He believed Alagoa's work was a copy and paste of Prof. Fombo's original manuscript.

I don't why it's too hard for you guys to use your brains.

It is obvious you have problems with English comprehension. Take that post to whoever taught you English and ask the person to explain it to you. I won't waste precious time to compensate for your woeful education.

If you are still not satisfied, ask Prof to frame it and hang on his wall since it deserves an accolade in your warped thinking.

A Chronicle of Grand Bonny is the title of the book co-authored by notable ijaw historian about the true origin and identity of Bonny/Ebane people. However, it is embarrassing to note that several acclaimed leaders in the academia while conducting a peer review of the said book called it a disappointing and non scholarly write up.

So the question is:

If ijaws claim about Bonny is factual why publish a doctored account?
