I'm not trying to win an argument about Biafra.

My position has always been that Nigeria is a useless and unworkable contraption that either needs to be broken up, or accepted as a doomed state.

The argument about the Queen and Biafra for me represents the importance of looking forward instead of back. Unlike in Nigeria, the British crown was more directly involved in the subjugation of India, and up until last week an Indian man was within a hairs breadth of becoming Prime Minister of the country that colonised the lands of his ancestors, and this was after having held and resigned from the 2nd most powerful office in the country.

There's a powerful irony at play here seeing a bunch of Indians (there were 5 in the Johnson Government) colonise thr colonisers. And an Indian is currently the Mayor of London

In the Nigeria of today, a Yoruba man cannot even be Governor of an Igbo state or Vice Versa. Its funny that some people are blaming the Queen and the Colonialists for a war started by people who killed democratically elected leaders and could not then agree on how to rule the country, when a Nigerian can literally move to the UK aged 16 like Kemi Badenoch and become a Minister in the UK Government.

That was what I found so absurd about the underlying premise of Uju Anya's tweet, made from a former British Colony, enjoying thr freedom to marry a woman that she does not even have in the land of her own Birth.

Like me and Roland17, you sef don japa. You sef know the score. If we want to complain about oppression,the worst oppression is to be found at the hands of those who look just like us.

This is ultimately the point I tried to make.

I think how Lateef Jakande performed these feats that now appear like miracle miracle today needs to be studied as a course for our present day politicians .

I have not and will never absolve Ojukwu/ Gowon and other players but that doesn’t absolve the monarchy either. Ceremonial or not, she had good knowledge of what was going on and this is a debate: argument bothered on her role in what happened during the war.

The original context of discussion was what Anya said about the Queen.
Anya was talking about Britain's involvement in the Biafran war and blaming the Queen squarely for that unfortunate event.
Her take, although asinine, has some tenuous links to reality, in that the Queen was the constitutional head of state of a country that provided aid to the Federal Government during the war.

Your take here however, has no grounding within the original context. Slavery in the UK for example was never legal. As early as 1562 Slavery was established as illegal under English Common Law. The vast majority of slave trade related actions happened OUTSIDE the United Kingdom in the middle passage of the Transatlantic Trade -and Britain played a huge part in ending the transatlantic slave trade - almost singlehandedly sef.

You could argue that the British Mercantile Class profited handsomely from selling human chattel, and you could argue that the profits of of the Slave trade found its way back to the UK, but what does that have to do with the Queen - and more specifically, THIS Queen?

How is it that we're going after the Queen of a country where slavery has been illegal for 600 years, instead of the various kings of Nigeria that practiced slave trade aggressively for centuries until that same Britain literally had to use violence to force them to stop

Even after Transatlantic slave trade had ENDED, slavery was still BOOMING in Northern Nigeria. Before you start calling out 'Institutional Racism' that doesn't affect 99.9% of Nigerians living in Nigeria, why are you not worrying about the descendants of the millions of slaves that constituted up to HALF the population of a Nigerian Caliphate?

I didnt know prof Anya prior to yesterday, I only talked about her personal life because most of you left the message and went after the messenger, as far as i am concerned irrespective of her bias, her resentment on this subject is justified, and such line of thoughts shouldn’t be shunned but embraced

Racism is far more than the people that stupidity sold their own brothers but the pigs that took advantage their situations and used it to enslave human beings, reducing such a monumental event to merely who did what is truly sad
