When talking about players, can we focus more on the individual rather than team achievement? I'm sure if Mikel is thrown into the mix when we are discussing Ballack, you'd be quick to highlight Ballack's individual qualities rather than team achievements BECAUSE Mikel has won the AFCON, UCL AND UEFA cup. If your logic is used here, Mikel stands heads and shoulders above Ballack but no, I know better than base my logic on nothing.

It is shocking the kind of claims one gets to read here. If you probe further, I'm sure he'd mention the world cup. The arguments here sometimes are ridiculous.

In a couple of years from now, one clown will come here to say the English team of 2018 was better than that of Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney.

Schweiny was a local champion. He never made FIFA XI 2nd team, let alone main FIFA XI.

I can't remember him for doing anything extraordinary consistently.

Capello flopped because he was dick headed manager and by the time he was in charge England no longer had most it's golden generation.Sven who was a clueless Goat that just picked players base on reputation was the one who mis managed England. if England didn't have a manager who was a 4-4-2 slave and could find a system to fit Lampard, Gerrard and scholes together they would have won something. I repeat again the golden generation had a fantastic defence, a solid goalkeeper, amazing midfielders (so many in fact that it created a problem because the coaches wanted them all in there and the balance was off) and very good strikers. Give them a good manager and it would have been a different story.

The golden generation certainly failed, but it almost certainly wasn't down to a lack of talent or players being overrated. It's down to shoddy management and stupid coaches hence Rooney is correct. It's not just about only Guardiola,give that team to Ferguson, Mourinho even Lippi back then and see them dominate.

It's not about not having quality players, there's more to it and Ibime had pointed out one or two things earlier.

This is exactly what I told him ó. It's mere wishful thinking for somebody to stay one place reminiscing and fantasizing what would've been saying ceteris paribus (All things being equal, when in fact all things can never be equal)

It's just like a case of if messi had opted to play for Spain and won the world cup and euros with them. Make Aguero or Di Màríà come sit down dey talk say If messi had played for them at the national level they would have World cup and Copa America medals.

None of England golden generation was hyped. Their were all genuine world class players who underperformed due to bad Management. That have been my stance hence Rooney saying with a proper manager like Guardiola they would have dominated, which is a valid statement. England didn't suffer from lack of talent /players but lack of good management.

Go and check the history of football. It is literally impossible for you to see an assortment of 'World class' that recorded this much failure international tournament after international tournament.

How can supposed talent in such high concentration fail to get past the quarterfinals of any major tournament as a collective? Go and check and show me one team in football history with that many good players from defense to attack who didn't just fail to win a major tournament but couldn't even get past quarterfinal in multiple tries. It means a significant number of them were hyped

He was talking about England golden generation which was from 2003 to 2010 which consisted of scholes, Rooney, Lampard,terry,James, Ferdinand, Gerrard,Cole, Campbell, Neville,Owen,becks etc Compare that to Spain generation from 2008 to 2014 Man to man and Spain don't even come close. The summary of the point rooney was driving at was put that golden generation under a coach like Guardiola and they would have dominated.
