GustavoFring: Lewandowski pocketed by Cahill.

The future of Bayern's attack pocketed by a Chelsea squad player. grin
E tun ti gbe de! Was he pocketed or did he waste glaring chances? BTW Cahill is now a starter at Chelsea

Katsumoto: You are in the debate yourself; who also made you the judge? Make your argument without stating whether mine is devoid of anything.
All your points have been roasted in the incinerator! Bring out players who were not allowed to make the German National Team solely because they were not "ethnic' Germans back in the day and you cannot. We've been waiting for over an hour now and grammar is all you have been chatting

Mehmet Scholl is not an "ethnic German" whatever that is,yet he played in Germany's last title winning team so your previous assertion has been rubbished and this proves that anyone that was good enough would have made the squad even back then
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by A40(m): 7:38pm On Oct 15, 2013
Katsumoto: You chaps try to use funny comments and snide remarks to debate.

Were there no mixed german kids born in german to german mothers before? You make it seem like the foreigners representing Germany today are the first set of mixed kids born in Germany.
So tell us the players that were denied the chance to represent Germany due to their mixed origins! Also tell us whether they were better than the "ethnic" guys in the squad. Mehmet Scholl was of mixed origin too but he was a surefire starter for Die Mannschaft

Like I said before your argument is devoid of merit or base you are simply arguing for the heck of it

@GustavoFrings

Katsumoto: Were there no foreign players born in Germany with German mothers in 1990, 1996, 1980?

Germany is not France that has always relied on foreign players to win. The German team has been overwhelmingly ethnic German until about a few years ago.
So why don't you come up with the foreign players that where good enough to make the Mannschaft then but didn't because their fathers were not German. The burden of proof is on you when you make these assertions

There are many nations that do not use foreign players.

Dude you don't have a point! Your argument is baseless

Katsumoto: I have a point - Germany has players with non-German names. Germany is no different to France and Holland.

In most nations, nationality or ethnic grouping is established through patriarchy.

How many Spanish players have non-Spanish names?
Patriarchy?? So if the father absconds after childbirth and leaves the child what next he can't switch his name to his mother's? This is a very laughable argument! Please permit me to laugh again! Bwahahahahahahaha

Did Germany not poach strikers from Poland and Spain? Is Germany not like France now? Where are Boateng, Gomez, Podolski, Gundogan, Khedira, Ozil etc from? The German first team is made up mostly of foreigners.

Katsumoto: How is that a fact? How do you quantify and qualify this fact? Abeg leave this illogical greatness to the side.

I repeat, Lahm doesnt come to mind when discussing great defenders.
How else do we quantify it besides his individual and collective awards!

Obviously you must know better than the Technical Study groups that keep voting Phillip Lahm into all-star teams year in year out for more than half a decade now both for club and country. You also know more than Pep Guardiola that tagged him the most intelligent player he has ever coached. At LB or RB he is better than 99% of his contemporaries

Like I said before greatness is not an opinion

Katsumoto: Defending - I rate Campbell higher in defending. I don't care about no freaking awards by UEFA or FIFA. I am judging for myself as a football lover.
As a boxing lover I can also say Bash Ali is better than Vitali Klitschko this doesn't make it fact

Katsumoto: IN MY OPINION - Campbell and Ferdinand are better than Lahm. Lahm is good going forward but is not that great defending. I wouldn't put him the class of the best full backs ever. Between the years 1998 and 2005, you will struggle to find up to 3 better than Campbell. Ferdinand has been at utd for more than a decade.
The beauty of greatness is that its not an opinion. Once you are great you are great [facts only]

Phillip Lahm 4 Team of the tournaments (Euros,WC) Multiple UEFA Team of the Year member

Its an insult to even compare Lahm to Sol Campbell or Rio Ferdinand. Sol who? Rio who? No wonder England cannot make the semis of any major tournament in almost two decades now when the press keep hyping up average and slightly above average players

omar22: Talking about Alonso, I heard that Ferrari has pardoned Massa for not moving over for "Crybaby"

Felipe was instructed by his team(s) since the start of his F1 career. I still remember the 2002 German GP when the Sauber team instructed him to let past Heidfeld and he lamented on the radio about it. After that Felipe looked to estabilish himself as a frontrunner but 8 years later, at the same track(Hockenheim), another team order, denied him a victory and highlighted Alonso's dominance inside the Ferrari team for four years.

Pretty pathetic that with no chance of a driver's title, Ferrari still try to take a position from one driver to give to another.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with bullheaded Kimi there. I wish he'd stay at Lotus. Anyways since Alonso is a poor qualifier, this will happen in the upcoming races too. Ferrari will still find a way to screw him... just ask Mark Webber how easy it is..

Now please give him some of that Lewis treatment and roughen his race. You had to move so many times and than Alonso get the crown.
What does it matter if they do not pardon him? He has to race for his F1 future so if I were him I couldn't be bothered about Ferrari or Alonso

Ferrari would do well not to try nonsense with Kimi because that one sef na crazeman. Alonso would have to outdrive and outqualify Kimi to get any special treatment and even at that there's no telling how the Iceman would react. I think we are at the cusp of seeing an outstanding battle between two really good drivers either way there is no guarantee it would lead to a WDC or WCC for Ferrari

omar22: Definitely another bit of team strategy to let golden boy win. They're not worried about the 7 points, but they probably feel that PR wise it's better to let Seb take all the victories...he'll be the one to lead the challenge again for RBR next year.
No harm in hedging your investment! I think Webber put himself in this position with his inability to perform and be consistent over the last 4 seasons
I still don't think Webber woulda made it to the end with those tires! He had been running on them since lap 26 and you know how hard Webber pushes his tires compared to Vettel

omar22: That said I agree with those who say Webber isn't a match for Vettel (anymore) in his own right. One of his weaknesses was shown again in being stuck after Grosjean a few laps instead of banzaiing it on the first attempt...However I don't think it would have been enough for victory either way.
He was stuck behind Grosjean for 7 laps!! That's unacceptable and its easy to even see why Vettel would be the preferred one. It took him just one lap!

omar22: All in all they were closely matched today with Webber having a slight advantage and the team did just enough to negate that advantage. Helmut was smiling.

Webber suggesting the team changed him to two stops. Plenty for the conspiracy theorists there.
I think Webber put himself in that position to be honest. If you look at the RBR and Ferrari scenario you have to agree that Webber has been given more leeway to challenge compared to Massa he's just come up short

omar22: If there was anything naughty going on it more reflects that they didn't trust Mark not to take them both off. There's certainly been enough egging on in that direction. I still think splitting the tactics made most sense to beat Lotus: no point having two cars follow his strategy.
We probably wouldn't even be having this controversy if Vettel was on pole. Having Webber win this race does nothing to help RBR's cause anyway

omar22: Still, possible scandal as title winning team may favour winning guy. Unprecedented.

Did you hear Vettel say "Keep him away from me" do you think he was talking about Grosjaen?
I wouldn't put it past Webber to crash Vettel and help his BFF Fernando if he could. That request wasn't out of order

Let's be fair here! Webber was on fresher and faster tires how on earth did he take 7 laps to pass Grosjean? The distance between him and Vettel was 11 seconds with 10 laps to go he could have caught him. Anyway these "tactics" are nothing compared to tampering with your teammates gearbox and "Fernando is faster than you"
RBR did what they had to do to get their cars ahead of the Lotus

MrBrownJay is talking about competitive teammates like Alonso,Hamilton and Schumacher had competitive teammates in their championship years

El Guapo: ^^ Under coach Louis Van Gaal, the preferred system was a 4-2-2-2, with two dedicated strikers on top (mostly Miroslav Klose, Ivica Olic and Mario Gomez) with Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben providing support on the wings, as well as another source of shots at goal, evidenced for example by the fact that Robben was the team’s top goalscorer of the 2009-2010 season, with 23 goals in all competitions. On that same season, Ribery scored 11 goals in total, with a grand sum of 34 Bayern goals in one year coming from the wings, and that’s only the main wingers.

In recent times, the formation has been swapped around to make room for a lone striker (namely Gomez and later Manduzkic) with the wings retaining that element of surprise but mostly relegated to providing support for a target man – it’s no coincidence that Gomez scored 39 goals in 2010-11. The wings still remain a massive point of focus for the team, since without them Gomez wouldn’t have got the service needed and many other goals wouldn’t have been scored.

David Alaba, Toni Kroos, Thomas Müller, Takashi Usami, Olic, Danijel Pranjic, Hamit Altintop – all of these have seen play on the wing on at least one occasion, and none of them are dedicated wingers (the argument is there to be made about Usami, but the rest have different preferred positions).

No mention of Thomas Muller who was one of Bayern's best performers that season! Who doesn't know that Van Gaal's formation was always one striker up top usually Olic (Muller supporting) with Klose or Gomez coming off the bench was the go-to formation when it came to the big games that season (especially in Europe)

Was Pep at Bayern when we had the 2nd highest possession in all of Europe last season? This mugu thinks we were not a ball-playing team under Juup and LVG because we were fortunate to have some of the best wingers in Europe. What a joke

El Guapo: Building from the back is a different ball game to keeping a healthy defensive record.

Dante never did a magic, Javi Martinez did!
Who does not know that in modern football your ability to keep possession can also improve your defensive record? Building from the back helps maintain possession and reduces the pressure and workload on your defence which is why the likes of Spain,Barcelona have suprisingly healthy defensive records despite their defenders not being so highly rated

Dante started 29 matches in the league Javi only started 19 so tell me how Dante was not the difference maker in a largely unchanged back four from the previous season?

El Guapo: I'm sure if you had the disciplined Spanaird as at 2011/12, you lot would have had a Champions League title in ya kitty. He does a work Van Bommel and Tymoshuck cant do.
Van Bommel and Tymoschuk? Are you a jester

Van Bommel left Bayern waaay back in January 2011,Tymoschuk was largely backup for most of his stay at Bayern! Please stop showing off your ignorance here its not currency!

El Guapo: Speaking of ball playing ability, when would that style creep into the picture? Just under Pep.

I didnt see a ball playing Bayern under Gaal and Juup - I saw a team that heavily banked on Robben/Ribery influence coupled with the intelligence of Bastian.
You are obviously lying! You didn't see Bayern under Van Gaal or Juup that's why you did not know that Bayern has been a possession team since the Van Gaal era! This guy does not even know that only Barca averaged more possession than Bayern last season! Good grief

El Guapo: Oh Please!

Bayern has got a system that pinpoints the wing-play as a focal point with the defensive midfielders providing those aegis for Robben/Ribery and ofcourse the fullbacks to bombard forward.

The CBs has got lil works to do in this setup, they just have to pick up the loose balls and aerial threats.

Got an idea the pressures Luiz and co are made to inure in every game cos there's no superb DM to lighten their workloads?

Who the heck is Dante? Luiz ma go turn world best for Bayansh!
If you don't watch Bayern then don't be chatting about what you don't know!

The only reason why Bayern don't endure as much pressure as the other teams is due to the ball playing ability of all our players down to Manuel Neuer himself! Everybody is comfortable with the ball at their feet! Which is why a 5'7 Lahm can play at DM and Bayern would still run the show against virtually all teams in Europe. Its not about having a superb DM its about the difference in philosophy between both teams

With Dante and Boateng fit a positionallly indisciplined Luiz has zero chance of starting at Bayern never mind world best

El Guapo: For the billionth time, there's a huge difference between playing for a top team and having an exceptional quality.

Who doesnt know that Pique is a pant? But Barca's system makes him appear good.

Speak of marksmen in Bayern, speak of Neuer, Lahm, Alaba, Martinez, Bastian, Robben and Ribery.

Dante did the yeoman job? Lobatan!
Neuer,Bastian,Lahm,Alaba,Robbery were all there when we didn't win a spoon back in 2011/2012

Dante was a massive difference maker for us! Fact!

El Guapo: Dude is a pant who woulda had his career spent out at Juventude if not for Lille.

Dude cant do good when up against good strikers, he's a total shiit.

Dont get it all muddled up between quality and playing for a good team.
