Lolzzz @bolded... Thanks drhopeful: My brother, I did not pass Verbal oh (like some elders here) but the elders have spoken. I tried to read aldaily.com but could not cope after the first 3 days. Those passages are God forsaken but if you can cope, they will be of immense help. I also listened to BBC radio every morning and evening on my drive to and from work. Those tough GRE words are frequently used in their news/reports/documentaries. Good luck! |

Thank you hirschfelder: I didn't read from any of these sources, so I cannot help here. But, the Magoosh App uses GRE words in context which makes it very useful. On a side note, if you like classic literature, it can help too provided you still have time. I read Mansfield Park (thesaurus version) before my exam and a lot of GRE words were used colloquially which makes them easy to remember. |

Thank you Time2Smile: Reading any article from New York times and Economist would help you improve. However, if you looking for a specific section, then I would recommend the art, science sections and book reviews. You should also check aldaily.com. They have at least 3 esoteric articles per day. |

You get the point, it is called 'watering the ground' and 'packaging'. akinsmyk: He bleeped up the first day he ate their food. They gave him shelter not that he should eat from the same pot with them.
If he doesn't eat their food or at least do once in a while. He would still be respected. He had accommodation problems not that he had no job. So what is his problem?
If I were him, I would buy them foodstuffs or give some money to the wife to do that and still eat occasionally, then he would b respected |

You're very correct bro. As you had rightly pointed out decisions are made holistically. Knowing fully well that one can not change anything about his or her GPA, and has got a very minimal influence over the recommendation letters, it is always advisable that the applicant gives his or her BEST when it comes to the standardized tests (GRE, TOEFL) and SOP in order to cushion any deficiences from the other components of the application. tescoman90: GRE Score!!!
I lost all hope bcuz of my score but I recently saw People with scores below 300 and dey got the admission with funding even b4 doz with 300+.
Well what I am trying say is that most schools have holistic view on our application, even a good personal statement, research experience, and most important GPA SCORE COUNTS ALOT. |

Baba. you need to pick yourself up, dust off the past and refire! How have you been? Renewable0216: Interestingly, I just saw this.
Sorry Bro, I got really discouraged after the school refused to provide ANY funding for the first year. I was asked to provide a balance of over $30k for them to issue I-20. They, however, sounded like there's assurance of funding after the first year.
Sadly, other applications didn't turn out well too.
Got really discouraged.
Not sure where to pick up from? Any ideas

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by aamstih: 4:59pm On Jun 18, 2017 |
Many Thanks for taking out time to explain this. seeker88: Thanks bro.. .
I didn't send recommendation letter to all d 11 schools as few of them didn't require recommendations, eg, Wayne State Uni and Wright State Uni.
Getting my referees to send their recommendation was the biggest challenge for me especially the academic ones. One of the academic referees was my project supervisor then in school, so we had a good rapport to the extent that we even chat on BBM till date. Despite that, he couldn't submit most of his recommendations early enough cos he was always busy with work n travels ...for example, he submitted his recommendation for my Georgia Tech and TAMU application in early March even though I completed these applications in Dec. So in all I just had to be patience with them while sending gentle reminder at intervals.
To d second question, yes, Dec is still early enough. For most good schools, their priority deadline is usually from Dec 15 to Jan 15 and that's best time to apply if you aim for funding....my advice is: "submit your application before the priority deadline if you have all the application materials ready, that would give u enough time to follow up with ur referees for their final recommendation submissions".
Finally, for majority of the schools, I uploaded the student copy of my transcript. Then for the school that required evaluated Transcript (eg, South Dakota State University) , I sent a copy from WES. It was only in LSU application that I ordered for a copy of my transcript directly from my UG school since they don't accept transcript from evaluation agency. The transcript took forever to get to d school. .....#NaijaSystem# |

Congrats bro. I had personally thought that you were in the US for for your grad studies due to the soundness of your contributions on this thread. Welldone once again! Please I need some enlightenment in the areas below: How did you get your references to send in their recommendations to 11 schools? If an applicant that is aiming for fall of 2018 sends in all his applications by Dec 2107, could that be termed 'early enough'? How did you go about sending your official transcripts to those schools, was it sent from your school ends or you uploaded e- copies from your ends? Thanks seeker88: Hello Family, it's been a journey.. .
This is an update from me. Just wanna give a recap of my graduate school application journey so far. A prospective applicant may pick something from this.

Hello bro, I would say that safe schools to a great extent depends on individual applicants with regards to their profile and also the said 'safe school' ranking. Mr A's safe school might still be too competitive for Mr B based on the big difference in their application profile. Just my random thoughts, the veterans should pls correct should the info be misleading. adey2014: greetings everyone. pls I keep hearing people say safe schools. pls which schools are termed safe schools and why are referred to as such. |
Christianity Etc › Re: I Want To Get Committed To A Church by aamstih: 1:54pm On Jun 11, 2017 |
It is wonderful that you've come to this realisation. Some truths needs to be spelt out unambiguously without mincing words, Church commitment is not a panacea to all your problems or challenges, some challenges are life phase related though some could still have a spiritual undertone, in as much as you want to be commited to church your personal relationship/ communion with God is the ultimate. Commitment to church would aid in edifying your spirit and constant hearing of the word has a way of purging us and we do also know tgat iron sharpeneth iron. Pls dont assume that going to church is a substitute for use of our brains, hardwork and creativity if you do you would be frustrated and bitter, as you develop your spiritual life which is of utmost importance dont leave behind your academics, career, business or anyother that is applicaple to you, always ensure you take practical steps to your goals and endeavour to commit your ways to God. As for a church to attend, Feel free to walk into any RCCG church around you, Daystar Christian Centre at Plot A3C Oregun, Ikosi Road, Ikeja is also a place to be, Any Winners Chapel(Living faith), Full life Christian Centre at 110 Obafemi Awolowo Way. Please if your spirit (inner man) is not at peace in any church you find yourself, there is no need of being there (when I mean peace, I don't mean when their preachings are not sugar coated and its get you unsettled). In all endeavour to be in a church that has salvation of souls and growing in the word as a priority. Lets end with three scriptures below: Heberews 10:25- Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 1 John 4: 1-6 - Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. Proverbs 4:7 -Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. May the almighty keep you and guide your path. God bless you. All the best! jayinfo2: Hello nairaland, please help a brother I just came to a consciousness that I can't do thing's by my power again. I have relied on my capabilities and have failed. Now I know it's only God that can direct me right.
I have made a resolution to get closer to God but I can't do this all by myself
That is the reason I came back to Lagos from the north.
I currently stay at Abule Egba Lagos and I need a good church that I can be committed to and would help my spiritual and physical life even if it is not near Abule Egba. Since I don't have the holy spirit yet to lead me to a good Church.
Please tell me a good church that can bring me back to life.
