NO. Crude protein is around 56% in both 0.8mm and 1.2mm and it is 49% in 1.5mm. so, u can see d difference!
Thus, you can't get the same result. You are to make use of feeding stick to feed your fish. It will help them not only to eat very well but also to prevent the feeds from wasting. Feed them little by little and ensure they eat it before giving them another small portion. You need to see people feeding. Stuff like dis involves seeing people practicalize it

saddek04: If u get 2-2.5 kg in 4 months 10 days, can you pls give a rough estimate of what to expect when you harvest a stock of 2100 fish and what is the average weight. Will all the fish be 1 kg and above or you still have some weighing less than 1 kg?

Average weight should be around 1.8KG.
There is no way you will rear fish without having a fish which are less than 1KG but majority will be around 1.5KG and above.

saddek04: The last part of your post before d data loss was that after feeding with 0.8 & 1.2, u use only one bag of 2mm after which you switch to formula 1(200kg) & formula2(200 kg). These u said will take them to like 2nd month of stocking. After this, what formula can one proceed to and for how long before changing to probably formula 4 before disposing. Pls write it in details and step by step. Also, is it feeding to satiation or you just weigh the feed in kg? Tnx

2000 pieces...u r to use 2bags of 0.8mm, 2 bags of 1.2mm and 1 bag of 2mm.....They will finished the 5 bags within 25 days max if they eat very well. You can then switch to local feeds. Each formula posted is 100KG. Writing all the formula here is going to take me a while. It is not easy bro. I will try to be posting each formula per day.

Im concerned about the use of floxinor in ur feed especially since thats wat u will feed ur fishes with till d fishes are sold. I believe there is usually a time interval wen all drugs given to an animal must be stopped before human consumption.

Floxinor is always in a small bottle. They sell it for N500.00. I use 1 Bottle for 100KG. Since, am making use of earthen pond, I make use of it till d'point of sales. Prevention they say is better than cure. At the moment, I no longer use Floxinor rather I make use of tectracin. It is just N300.00 per sachet. However, premix and lysine are meant to aid feed digestion. So, i make use of it till d'point of sales although I reduce it to 0.5KG on 200KG but if u can afford more, it does not have any effect on the growth of fish.


Also, some school of thought believe that salt affects the growth of fish but I believe that it is also medicinal and helps to prevent diseases in fish. So, i used 3KG of salt in 100KG and I still get result.

I am a silent follower of this forum most especially of Ab1x on his new formula for local feed because I am into earthen pond fish farming based in Ibadan with very large farm and on the verge of disposing the farm due to losses at the end of every harvest season. I was about to to dis when I came across this forum and it gave me a hope. I was following Ab1x closely and even wrote some of his points down until the loss of data and since then, he has not been frequent anymore. Indomie/Flour/Biscuit are the same.
The only different is that flour bind the feeds very well more than indomie and biscuit.
Although, indomie and biscuit have nutritional value than flour
Thus, you can make use of any of the three above.

Continue feeding them with 2mm.
No farmer can give u the amount of KG they will consume since there are different specie of catfish and catfish tend to eat differently depending on the condition they find themselves.
That's why it is important to maintain a clean water at all times because this will help them to consume more and to grow better. No need to cover your pond. Ensure that their is a enough water in the pond.

8 days from fingerlings, they should still be eating 0.8mm or 1.2mm. You can just mix tetracycline with their feed. 2 capsule is okay.

As long as there is no mortality, u can use little salt to treat them when next u change their water. I don't know how big their stomach is but salt can do the magic.

I think people in that part of the country should be able to reply to your question as regards cooperative society in Kwara.
Oxygen depletions are the most common cause of fish kills in ponds. Most oxygen deletions occur in the summer months because warm water holds less dissolved oxygen than cool or cold water, and also because the pond’s oxygen demand is greater in warm water than in cold water.
Water hardness is often confusing and therefore overlooked by many fish farmers, though quite important because it is closely related to pH levels. Fish can only thrive in certain levels of water hardness, and if the levels are out of balance, it can cause stress and death. It is important that you know the hardness of the water in your fish tank. Hard water (high mineral content) is usually high in pH. Soft water (low mineral) is usually low in pH. The mineral in hard water acts as a buffer which reduces the amount of acid in the water. The resulting water will be more alkaline and higher in pH. Some species of fish require hard water while others require soft.

They don't sell dry/smoke fish in Kilos. They only package it in 3's or 4's in a sealed nylon or plastic bags as the case maybe and sell to customers. As regards the issue of price for fresh fish, the price varies from one location to another. While in Lagos, they do no sorting but here in Ogun State, they sort fish which I have explained in my previous post on this thread.

1) 2mm of 15kg of coppens for 4/5 days. Isn't that a lot of feed (N5,600)? It is not much at all. Perhaps you should be happy that your fish are eating well. The more they eat, the bigger they become.


2) When u spot feed, is it all fishes that will swim to dat one spot to feed. Also won't some of the feed still spread? It is not all the fish that will come to eat but majority will gather together to eat. I make use of sound to make them gather together before feeding

3) How do u determine weight of fish without bringing dem out of their habitat in order to calculate FCR? I use the amount of local KG they consume and the number of fish that I stocked, to determine their size.


4) I need local feed supply in Ibadan to feed fishes at 2 month.
People in IB should be able to assist u with this info.

5) Is the price of catfish regulated in various locality cos I c somepple purchasing table size for smoking @ N360/380 per kilo.



It varies from one area to another. It is an open market where equilibrium ie demand and suppy meets to determine the price.


6) Is there a way we can identify catfish farmers on this thread based on their location (I'm based in Ibadan myself, just sold my first harvest and abt to start rearing again. I plan to rear more fishes than I did the last time with no mortality, so help me God).

It does not have a specific time. I presently have a stock, they are just 15 days old. They are already on 2mm and if I give them 3mm they will pick it convienently however I advise people to make use of 2mm through out before changing to a local feeds so that those small fingerlins in the pond will be able to catch up otherwise they will become runts.

You're welcome on board. My take is there is no specific amount of feeds that I can recommend for your fish. While 1000pieces of fish that are at age can eat 2mm 15KG for 4 days, another 1000 pieces else where can eat 2mm 15KG for 5days or more. It all depends on the way you manage your farm. Please ensure their water is clean at all times, make use of on a spot feeding technique and also take time to feed them very well without pouring the feeds into the water any how, when they are okay with the feeds they will naturally leave the spot while some fish can still stay on the spot and there is nothing you can do to make them scatter but you need to observe their mouth and the feeds to be able to determine if they are picking it. I'll advise you feed them twice in a day that is morning & evening. Forn ow, coppens is still the best so I will advise you to get that. At this stage, they should be eating 2mm now. Hope that helps ?

Please do talk with people in your farm to see if they can be of help or if that does not work, then go to where u make local feeds before am sure they will be willing to give the feeds to you on credit. It depends on the type of pond you're using for instance if it is flow through method, you don't need to change water till the very last day. However if it is the stagnant one, you need to change their water every two weeks and also pump fresh water on them once in a while. The bottom line is fresh water makes fish eat more, stay healthy and avoid unnecessary sickness which hitherto saves cost.

I'm just tired of the whole nonsense these network providers are doing. I keep receiving irrelevant calls and sms from them. Atimes, when I expect relevant calls or sms, I'll just see their junk calls or sms. I think the reason why they asked us to register our line is not far fetch. I wonder why a customer cannot have his privacy. I am just dead tired with this nonsense that I keep getting on my cell. Please, what can be done to stop it?

I noticed that too. Weather condition can of course have a great influence on the fish eating habit all other things being equal. You've nothing to worry about. Just ensure that their water is always clean and you feed them regularly. In due time, they will starting again.
