The truth is that nothing good comes easy but gradually things are coming. Before end of year Shoprite should be completed. The Egbema gas to power project has commenced again after some years of hiatus because of politics. We already know of NBL recently starting work on their biggest plant at Okigwe. In 4 to 5 years time all these would have come to fruition.

Oguta is the only semi-urban with entire roads tarred with streetlights and complimented with lovely old and new mansions.

Nkwerre and all those places are not completely tarred with streetlights and finally they have no blue lake and white sand. I implore most Igbos to visit Oguta for their birthdays, honeymoon and quiet relaxation. An undiscovered paradise awaits you.

The Imo State government says it is set to begin
the construction of a multi-million Naira Industrial
Park to enhance industrialisation and economic
growth.

As contained in a plan presented at a Trade
Investment Forum on Monday, the park would be
located in Ohaji Egbema and Oguta oil producing
areas of the state in eastern Nigeria, with a target
to generate about five billion dollars yearly.
The three-day Imo Trade Investment Forum is
organised by the State government and is holding
at the Imo State Trade Investment Centre in Owerri,
the Imo State capital.

Declaring the Forum open, the Imo State Governor,
Rochas Okorocha, said that the State government
had already earmarked 20,000 hectares of land in
Ohaji Egbema for the easy take-off of the modern
industrial park that will open Imo state to the
world.

He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that
within the next four years, his mission and vision
remained industrialisation, wealth creation and
creation of job opportunities for teaming
unemployed youths in the state.
The newly completed Imo Trade Centre, the venue
for the Forum, came alive on Monday, with
business men and investors both foreign and local
all gathered to witness the first ever investment
forum.

If it's not owned and operated by indigenes we don't care.
This isn't Ogun where we'll clap because Germans are becoming billionaires with out natural resources. This is Imo. We're the most educated state in the country and there are indigenous oil companies owned by Imolites that need and want that contract and will keep their revenues closer to home.
Critical thinking. It's very obvious that this thread struggles to populate it's self with development news which happens with ease in the Anambra thread. I say this as someone that wants to contribute because can't find anything.
I find it strange that you speak of 'Igbo people' in third person.
I'm not showing any 'bias' I researched the company because I was excited about the project and when I saw they had only existed for 1 year I looked further and saw the 'owner' has been accused and punished on fraud and incompetence from his previous employer this very year. I also saw that he was no more than a sales man.
If critical thinking is something you've 'come to know' about Igbo people I'll gladly own it.
You are an indigene. Why not act like Chukwunyere and invest at home?

On that of contribution, most Igbo Nairalanders are pro-Jonathan hence they can never see any good in Okorocha or Amaechi.

Meanwhile Ohaji youths protested against Jonathan today and pleaded with Buhari to come to their aid on the Owerri/Port Harcourt road neglected by Jonathan admin.

PoliticsRe: Few Pics From Imo State by abagoro(m): 7:14pm On Aug 13, 2015
Former Niger Delta militants in the oil producing
areas of Ohaji Egbema and Oguta Council Areas of
Imo State have vowed to resist any attempt to stop
them from getting their “rights” from all federal and
state establishments, even if it means shedding their
blood to realize it.

Arising from a meeting of stakeholders yesterday in
Owerri, which was attended by over 200 youth leaders
across the oil producing areas, the convener and
National leader, Orashi Camp of ex-agitators /BOT,
Prince Emeka Igwe, disclosed that all the youth
leaders have agreed that, henceforth, they would form
a common front in demanding their “rights”.

“We have resolved to work together to get all our
rights from every federal and state government
agencies like NDDC, ISOPADEC,” they said, adding
that before now they had agitated for these rights in
disunited front.

This was just as they blamed politicians for the
disharmony among them, saying that any politician
who would instigate problems among the youths for
selfish purposes would be seen as an enemy of the
youths in the zone.

The meeting – attended by President, Imo Youth
Council, Comrade Jeff Nwaoha, NDYM Chairman,
Comrade Chigozie Ohiri, ISOPADEC Chairman,Oguta,
Comrade Fatai Nwanwa, ISOPADEC Youth, Ohaji/
Egbema, Comrade Nwulu John, president, Izombe
Central Youth, Honourable Dennis Nwachukwu among
others – resolved that there was no need to fight each
other when their “rights” were been trampled upon,
adding that they must reconcile themselves and chart
a way forward.

Meanwhile, ex-Militants appealed to Imo State
Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha to nominate Mr.
Donald Igbo, the ISOPADEC Director of Accounts, to
represent the people Ohaji/Egbema Oguta and Imo
State in the Niger Delta Development Commission,
since the board has been dissolved.

The youths, who honoured him with an award as
the patron of Niger Delta Youth Forum of Imo State,
said that Mr. Igbo had distinguished himself in his
professional duties and service to his people.

Responding, Mr. Igbo thanked the youth leaders,
saying that he would not disappoint Imo indigenes in
particular and Nigerians in general when called upon
to serve his fatherland in whatever capacity.

Chai! Look at the level ORO has dragged my dear state to.
Imagine 419ners and scammers being paraded to Imolites as investors. From the bolded, one doesn't need to be told that Imo state is in for another 4 years of scam. We should get ready for more torturous years of China projects , substandard roads and uncompleted contracts.
What is it with Rochas and scam. I think, I've read this script before. The same way he did, with the fake University free education and the stolen wealth he got from the sale of Ada palm to his company Roche group?
When I searched Google, my fears where truly confirmed. Nowhere in Europe, nay Germany could the fake name 'Africa Greetec' be found.
While other States like Akwa-Ibom and Anambra are serious about the business of investment. Our own ORO is gallivanting around the world and pulling stunts to the admiration of Sycophants.
Only in Imo will you find blocks being
laid to build bridges. Only in Imo will a Governor erect a billboard of himself and President Obama exchanging handshakes. One begins to wonder if it were only him that went for the Visit.
You seem to believe more in propaganda than reality. The gas investment in Imo dwarfs everything any other State can ever get. The industrial park is being sited at Ohaji/Egbema because of proximity to gas source.

The second is Delta State with 78,854 candidates. Anambra State has a total of 77,689 candidates while FCT has the lowest with 4,085.
Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, where Boko Haram has displaced several residents, also rank among the lowest with 15,692, 15,613 and 10,044 candidates respectively.
Ojerinde said that the decline in the number of applications when compared to that of last year to is as a result of insecurity in some parts of the country, adding that the registration for the CBT had also eliminated the incidence of dual or multiple registration by candidates.

The only solution to the persistent fuel crisis in this country is Deregulation. Unless the government totally hands up and open up the sector to allow Nigerians participate fully in oil activities, these problems will continue.
But why the sharp-price disparity between stateshuh How come Lagos and Kano have the lowest fuel price at N92 and Bayelsa is N155 per litrehuh
It will amount to wickedness and injustice if at the end of the day fuel subsidies has actually been implemented for select states instead of the entire federation.
Before end of this month petrol will be selling at 87 everywhere. Change has hit the oil distribution industry. Here in Port Harcourt, it is already 87 without queues.

German company to establish power plant in Imo

Owerri, Aug. 11, 2015 (NAN) The Deputy Governor of Imo, Prince Eze Madumere on Tuesday received a delegation of investors who had indicated interest in establishing two power plants in the state.

This is contained in a release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mr Uche Onwuchekwa. According to the release, the leader of the delegation, Mr Wilson Chukwunyere, a citizen of the state said it had been his desire to contribute his quota toward building an industrial base in the state.

Chukwuyere said that the first attempt to establish industries in the state was the settinp up of a motorcycle plant under the administration of former governor of the state, Sam Mbakwe.

He said that the attempt was thwarted by the military incursion into politics. He said that the company, ``Africa Greetec'' would be establishing a 50 megawatts power plant and another 30 megawatts Solar Energy Power plant in the state. He, however, stressed the need for government to provide them with an enabling environment.

The Business Development Manager of company, Mr Volker Gutijahr expressed gratitude to the state government for welcoming them to the state. He assured the deputy governor that the company would not disappoint the government if given the opportunity. Responding, the Madumere said that Imo State Government would ensure that it provided an enabling environment for investors who intended to invest in the state.

The deputy governor, who received the German investors on behalf of Gov. Rochas Okorocha expressed sadness over the dearth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which he attributed to the problem of power.
He assured the group of the government’s support, adding that power remained the key for the revitalisation of SMEs and establishment of industries in the state. He also commended the leader of the delegation, Chukwuyere for bringing his partners to develop the state. (NAN)

CITING his giant strides in his first tenure, the Catholic community in the ancient kingdom of Okwudor in Njaba local council of Imo State on Sunday honoured Governor Rochas Okorocha, saying that he made the faithful and every indigene of the state proud with his performance.

Also honoured was the representative of Njaba State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Uju Onwudiwe (Igolo Njaba) at a ceremony attended by the governor’s wife, Ugonneoma Nkechi Okorocha, who represented her husband, Speaker of the House of Assembly, represented by his Deputy, Ugonna Ozuruigbo, and other lawmakers from Imo, Edo, Jigawa and Benue states. There were also the governor’s Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, Uche Mbanaso and the Acting Vice Chancellor, Imo State University, Owerri, Prof. Adaobi Obasi, among others.

The major issue we currently have in the East is the dearth of credible and Informed leaders with foresight, leaders that burn with desire to uplift the socioeconomic condition of the region.

Its obvious these leaders abound within us. The problem is, how do we identify and elect them to bring about this transformation we seek.

Behind every great country are great leaders who burned with desires to will that which was in imagination, into reality.

Without this, nothing can be achieved, we will only end up exactly where we started.
We have great leaders, astute businessmen, distinguished technocrats and credible academicians but they just like all of us can never work together. If only we can work together, I alone can make a big contribution without seeking profit.
PoliticsRe: Eastern Nigeria Development Ideas by abagoro(m): 6:22pm On Aug 12, 2015
ezeagu:
I propose we come up with ideas we've had for development of eastern Nigeria on a macro level. I've seen bits of ideas floating around all over the politics section and I thought it would be wise if there's a central place people could chip in ideas. It's kind of tiring constantly fighting over politics, most of us wouldn't care much for politics if things were in place to development to occur or if Nigeria was moving in a right direction, so this should be a kind of shelter away from the usually extensive politics, although you can feel free to add political adivse and so on, but it should be for the concern of welfare and development, not merely seeking and office or an "Igbo president".

These ideas would be for infrastructure, transportation, heath, industry, education and so on. This is meant to be for ideas that can ideally be made, they don't have to be feasible now, they can be part of a wider/extended plan, so if you're talking about a tunnel to Bonny Island you're welcome. You never know who is reading or who has power to put things in place.

I encourage photos for case studies, but if you can provide mock ups or sketches or diagrams of your ideas/ideas for eastern Nigeria you've seen that would be perfect. Please if you're a female, we need you to contribute as well, usually you're not in these discussions.

Please if you have no ideas, do not comment.
The ideas and capabilities are there but the most important is peace and unity. As for now every village wants to be everything at the same time and the preachers never see any good in synergy.

Nothing will come out of your proposal without we 1st of all seeing ourselves as one and equal and mapping out our boundaries.

I always say that the only way Buhari can prove to the world that he's not using "fighting corruption" to witch-haunt PDP members is by probing, prosecuting and jailing Amaechi.

The Amaechi of PDP and that of APC are two totally different individuals as he worked when in PDP but in APC he started using taxpayers' money to fund Buhari's election (a fellow APC member), hence that explains why he was made campaigns director.

Amaechi in Buhari's cabinet is a trap...the world is watching...make him a minister or ambassador and see social society groups and indeed Nigerians in action. We are keenly watching...

Igbo nation were the source of 80% Nigerian oil revenue for many years until oil was discovered elsewhere. Offshore exploration lead to the decline in onshore oil interests.

On industries there are equally sizeable industries that contribute so much. These include but not limited to

1) Innoson motors Nnewi which is the only local car manufacturer in Africa

2) Glass Force industries Aba which produces majority of bottles used in Nigeria. It is the largest glass industry in Africa.

3) Aba sorghum malting plant owned by NBL. It is the largest in the world.

4) Sabmiller brewery Onitsha which is the largest brewery in Nigeria alongside NBL Enugu and NBL Aba which are 2nd and 3rd in Nigeria.

Download this and read when Igbos started contributing to oil industry. The conspiracy to hide Igbo contribution started from colonial era after oil was discovered and deliberately declared dry. However pipelines were layed from there to Bonny for shipping.

http://www.arabianjbmr.com/pdfs/OM_VOL_2_(11)/4.pdf

Arabian Journal of Business and Management Review

(OMAN Chapter) Vol. 2, No.11; June 2013     As such, they were not willing to relinquish government control over resources that would come to them when they took over from the colonial authority at independence (NAI, 215/50625/Vol II).

We therefore stress that despite opposition to the 1945 Oil Mineral Ordinance, the oil exploration by Shell/D’Arcy in Ijawland continued relatively unabated after 1947 (NAI, 216/50625/Vol III; 217/50625/Vol IV; 218/50625/Vol V; 219/50625/Vol VI; 220/50625/Vol, VIII; 221/50625/Vol, VIIII). More importantly, on its return to Niger Delta, the company retained the concessionary rights it had enjoyed before the War (Orubu, 2002). Shell-BP intensified its search for oil in the eastern Delta of Nigeria in 1947, conducting an extensive gravity survey of southern Nigeria from 1948 to the early 1950s.

Its geophysical activities were successful through an expansive coverage of the Niger Delta by aerial photography in 1951 (NAI, 22/1290/1952). The latter was made possible through a further land concession by the British Colonial government, whereby Owerri in eastern Nigeria was added. Shell-BP had by 1951 successfully explored and drilled its first oil well at Iho Town in the northeast of Owerri, but it was found to be dry.

The company’s further exploration led to the discovery of more oil wells in Akata by 1953, although the oil was not of commercial quantity (NAI, 180/1/No 1580; NAE, 1168/15; Annual Report, 1953-54).

Discovery of Oil in Oloibiri   After shifting its exploratory focus to the tertiary area of the Delta, Shell-BP struck oil of commercial quantity in January 1956, at Oloibiri in the Ogbia District of Ijaw area, at a depth of 12,008 feet (Pearson, 1970).

It should be noted that after the Second World War in 1947, Shell D’Arcy resumed exploration under a new name as the Shell-British Petroleum Company (Shell BP). This site, according to Korvenoja (1993) and Allan (1994) was located about 72 kilometres (km) west of Port-Harcourt in the Niger Delta.

Shell-BP’s exploration activities led to more oil discoveries at Afam, 40km east of Port-Harcourt, and the Bomu and Ebubu (Ogoni) areas of the Niger Delta (Augustine, 2006; OPEC, 2000; Jaspid, 1995). The discovery was a great success for both the company and the colonial government. More importantly, it encouraged development of a petroleum sector, especially by foreign multinational companies that would become major role players in the upstream oil sector of the Nigerian economy.

Geological survey reports between 1955 and 1959 revealed that a total of 229,032 feet of exploration drilling and 185,379 feet of appraisal drilling were completed during those years. For instance, in Oloibiri about 16 wells were completed, of which 11 started production, while others were left up to the end of 1958 (Colonial Annual Report CAR, 1958-59).

To facilitate the production and exploration of oil in Oloibiri in 1958, Steyn (2009) summits that a network of pipelines had to be laid between 1956 and 1958, between this region and the oil port at Port-Harcourt.

We argue that Shell BP was prepared for oil exploitation because about 6-10 diameters welded steel oil pipelines was built and laid across the land from the Umualogu village, Egbema village and Obeakpu village to Port-Harcourt where the refinery was located.

Infrastructural facilities for effective operation and transportation of crude oil were put in place and about 8,500 tons of crude oil was exported to Rotterdam by 8 March 1958, while the Oloibiri oilfields yielded a daily production average of 5,000 barrels (CAR, 1958-59).
