http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/09/why-anambra-judiciary-workers-are-on-strike/ Why Anambra Judiciary Workers Are On Strike Again By Chukwujekwu Ilozue, Awka For the third time this year, the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Anambra State chapter, has gone on strike, crippling activities in all the courts in the state. The strike followed the inability of the Anambra State government to keep to its earlier agreement with the union before the last strike was suspended. The union had suspended its second strike about three months ago when it reached an agreement with the state government to pay the workers the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUSS). Government did not honour the agreement, with the Head Of Service (HOS) allegedly telling JUSUN that the state was not in the mood to discuss such issues now. All the courts in the state have been shut to press home the demands of the union. Apart from other scheduled cases in the courts, the National Assembly election petitions tribunal in the state could not sit as a result. Anambra State chairman of (JUSUN), Mark Ifezue, said that notice was given last Friday indicating the indefinite strike. He said the union’s letters to Governor Willie Obiano through the Attorney-General of the state on the situation were ignored by government. “We have no other option than to proceed on this strike because we have done our best to accommodate the state government in all our programmes. “In 2011, the state government offered five percent to JUSUN promising to review it (CONJUSS). In 2014 again we wrote to the government so that our salary could be at par with other states in the country, without any favourable response. “The head of service told us that the state is not in the mood to discuss such thing now and that was when we knew that nothing was in the offing,” Ifezue said. A lawyer who pleaded for anonymity, said the Obiano administration was not willing to discuss such now, as the state was battling with severe economic crunch. He said: “Look at the projects in the state, including the ones left by former Governor Peter Obi, none is going on, everything is at a standstill. “Obiano should be open to tell the people the truth, this state is in trouble,” the lawyer said. |
gwuanyi Moves To End Judiciary Workers' Strike In Enugu Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state yesterday promised to set machineries in motion to end the six-month strike action embarked upon by judiciary workers in the state operating under Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria(JUSUN). The governor who hosted a delegation of the leadership of the state judiciary led by the state chief Judge, Hon. Justice Innocent Umezulike, also frowned at observed lopsidedness in appointments into the state judicial service system, pointing out that such engagements at the level of all cadres have so far flouted the provisions of Section 14 (4) of the Nigerian constitution. “My lords, I have studied the recruitments of all cadres of staff in the Enugu State Judiciary and urge that future appointments should comply with section 14 (4) of the Nigerian constitution”, said the governor yesterday.. Ugwuanyi who addressed the judges at the executive council chambers of the Government House, Enugu promised to work jointly with the members of the judiciary in finding ways to end the lingering JUSUN strike as quickly as possible. He, however, frowned at a situation where in a federation like Nigeria one of the units would be forced to pay workers' emoluments beyond its financial capabilities. He told the jurists who commended him for moving into some giant strides barely one month into the life of his new administration that "what puzzles me is how we can run a federation in which the independent feed rating units are compelled to pay the same wages notwithstanding their revenue differentials". http://sunnewsonline.com/new/ugwuanyi-moves-to-end-judiciary-workers-strike-in-enugu/ |
This topic doesn't deserve arguing. Oyigbo is 100% Igbo of Asa and Ndoki clans in Abia State. The Imo River was just used as a natural boundary but the villagers have their lands on both States while majority of their population are in Abia State. Umuebulu is not Oyigbo its Etche tribe and in Etche LGA while Iriebe is Ikwerre in Obio/Akpo LGA. Obigbo people are 90% pro-Biafra and fky the flag like Southeasterners. |
Leopantro:Have you read my view? The workers and Government should reconcile their differences for the sake of students. Thats my view. It is more or less an ego war. Government has refused to pay them for not working while they in turn refused to work until they are paid. What is your suggestion? |
Dawn123:What Spyder88 did is wrong. He wants to create a wrong impression which to me is unnecessary as he stands to gain nothing. Much of April I was in Enugu and most roads recently constructed had potholes and filled with sand deposits. I was equally in many areas that were very bad and even inaccessible. Did I go to the Enugu thread to post them? The Enugu-Onitsha road has been bad for years but have you seen anyone post pictures of it to condemn Enugu in Enugu thread? Ndigbo should be careful how far they go trying to tarnish Okorocha's image. Imo State is not Okorocha and their politics of hate should not extend to false representation of facts or manipulation of images to ridicule Imo State. |
http://m.thenigerianvoice.com/news/182881/1/imo-deputy-governor-paid-unscheduled-visit-to-imo-.html Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, yesterday paid unscheduled visit to Imo State Teaching Hospital, Orlu, saying it was in concert with the Rescue Mission resolve to transform the health sector. Prince Madumere who arrived the IMSUTH complex at 9:21 am, was shocked that some of the management staff were not available except the Chief Security Officer, Mr. Nwanguma Michael who conducted him round before the arrival of others. While addressing the staff, he said the staff on-the-spot check was in a bid to ascertain the punctuality of the employees and the quality of services being rendered to the patients. He also revealed he was directed to go on fact finding on the state of the facilities of the government owned health centers and hospitals. Prince Madumere however warned that the government will no longer watch medical employees shortchange Imolites in the rendering the necessary health services according to the medical ethics and professionalism. He further explained that Owelle Rochas Okorocha led Rescue Mission government is in the know of the challenges being experienced in some of the health centers. He therefore assured the staff of governments poise to go the extra mile to ensure Imo people get intensive health care they deserved. Fielding questions from the residents of Umuna Community who expressed dissatisfaction over the poor quality services and regular absence of Doctors at the IMSUTH, he assured them government’s effort to change the psyche of the health workers. He told them to be rest assured that positive change will be effected in few days. He revealed that Government is ready to wield the big stick to erring staff. He enjoined the people to follow the footsteps of the two persons who laid complaints over their dissatisfaction. He said Rescue Mission government was founded on freedom and therefore enjoined the people to join hands to build Imo of collective dream by demanding their rights and reporting their reservations to appropriate quarters. In the same vein, Prince Eze Madumere visited IMSUTH Comprehensive Center, Anara, Isiala Mbano and another outreach in Ogbaku unannounced. He expressed gladness over the comportment of the staff especially the Medical Doctors, Dr. Durueke and Nkem Echefu heading the respective outreaches. He also encouraged them to ensure they remain noble in their work . At Anara, Isiala Mbano, Prince Madumere also called on the CGC administrators to also take responsibility to ensure they play the needed role to secure structures and take them as their own. The Heads of the two satellite IMSUTH health centers urged the government to construct a perimeters fence around their hospital facilities and to give them sense of security. They all promise to do their best to satisfy their patients who are the reason for their line of profession and employment. http://theleaderassumpta.com/2015/07/25/fear-grips-imsuth-staff-over-sack-threat-as-govt-releases-241-names-for-query/ Fear grips IMSUTH Staff over sack threat …as Govt releases 241 names for Query Posted by The Leader News Online on Saturday, July 25, 2015 · Leave a Comment The staff of Imo State University Teaching Hospital Orlu was on Monday thrown into pandemonium following the release of over 241 names of the workers in the hospital who will undergo query with reason of being absent on their duty post. When The Leader visited the hospital, some of the staff were seen loitering in state of confusion within the premises of the hospital, while some were busy with their over side function. One of the senior staff in the hospital (name withheld) told The Leader that the staff did not actually know the cause of such development, but recalled that the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere recently paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital at about 9:15 am in the morning and ordered that attendance should be taken when most of the staff have not come to work, while some were already at their designated places of work. The staff further stated that he was among those present on that very day but was surprised to see his name on the said list. I feel Government should negotiate with lsbour instead of trying to muscle their way out of pride. The students are the grasses while Government and labour are the elephants. |
sammyuche:What is the genesis of IMSUTH crisis? The Government got a report on lack of seriousness on part of hospital workers after agreement on increased pay. The deputy Governor had to pay an unscheduled visit to the Hospital only to discover that many workers were absent and did an instant row call after which he declared that those absent would be queried and sacked. |
The spokesperson wasn't truthful. They rejected their salaries because of disagreement with government on salary scale not that Government refused to pay them. What they are fighting is Government reduction of their salary scale to be at per with other ministries and other States. |
joeprince23:Oyigbo LGA is Igbo and has never been in contention. Same with Egbema in ONELGA. |
Seems black market is included in the survey because this September we did not buy petrol above 87 Naira in Rivers. |
They also graduated 56 in 2014. So its obvious the issue started this 2015. I guess its all about politics because this year's politicking was taken too far. www.medicalworldnigeria.com/2014/09/imsuth-graduates-56-doctors |
OdenigboAroli:Yes. IMSUTH had no accreditation until Rochas Okorocha became Governor in 2011. They got accreditation in 2013 to graduate the 1st set of medical Doctors. NMA accreditation is not easy. |
Beremx:The assembly workers not Government house are owed because they rejected the pay on grounds that it was low. The Government wants it to be at per with other ministries. Its actually the assembly that pays them. The judiciary workers on the other hand are demanding for financial autonomy. Mischief makers captioned it to mislead lazy readers. |
Lest we forget http://okgist.com.ng/blog/2013/09/after-15-years-imo-state-university-graduates-first-set-55-medical-doctors/ At last, the Imo State University Teaching Hospital Orlu, has finally graduated 55 of its fifth set of medical doctors, fifteen years after. Okgist gathered that the fresh medical graduands had spent not less than 15 years at the medical institution due to the period of non-accreditation of the medical programme as well as strikes. At the oath-taking ceremony yesterday, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Jerry Alagbaso, who chaired the event, had challenged the new medical doctors to be good ambassadors of their alma- mater and uphold the ethics of the profession. The law maker admonished them to be religious in discharging their professional obligations saying “bear in mind that you have the supreme task of saving lives first before any other thing.” Alagbaso, applauded the Chief Medical Director of IMSUTH, Dr. Chijioke Nzewuihe, management of both Imo State University and IMSUTH for making the graduation of the doctors a reality. Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, in his speech, had expressed satisfaction with the graduating doctors for persevering to the end. Awuzie also appreciated their parents for toiling day and night to make the dreams of their children come through. The Chief Medical Director of IMSUTH, Dr. Chijioke Nzewuihe, described the graduation of the doctors as historic and unique, stating, “under my administration, two sets of doctors have been turned out.” Nzewuihe said that the target of IMSUTH is to embark on programmes and services that will make the institution a centre of excellence and promised to give his best towards the objective. High points of the colourful ceremony were the formal induction of the 55 new doctors after their professional oath. |

Bad roads, erosion: Anambra royal father weeps as domain suffers untold hardship From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi When a monarch cries, his subjects must have been wailing to the high heavens because it is very unusual for a monarch to cry. This is the case for the Igwe of Igbo-Ukwu, His Royal Highness, Igwe (Dr) Martin Ezeh in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, who recently cried out in an emotion-laden voice for the federal and state governments to come to the rescue of his people who have been cut off by dilapidated road network and flood disaster. In Igbo-Ukwu, which has one of the biggest local markets in West Africa, several federal institutions are sited there. The town has houses the National Gallery of Arts, Centre for Black and African Arts and Culture, the Yam House, and Old People’s Home and Botanic Garden. They are sited in Igbo-Ukwu because of its historical importance which stretches back into antiquity as the origin of all migrants, including the Igbo race, according to history. But this ancient community, which is the home town of the first civilian Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, who did his bit in his own time, has suffered neglect in the hands of successive administrations in Anambra before Governor Willie Obiano came in with little or no significant change so far. Apart from a lot of dilapidated infrastructure or non- availability of them, the major concern of the Igbo- Ukwu people now is the state of Nnobi-Awka-Etiti- Igbo-Ukwu-Ekwulobia road. The road in Igbo-Ukwu connects Imo and Abia states and these are federal roads. There is a particular portion of the road from Awka- Etiti axis that cuts across the entrance to the palace of the Igwe of Igbo-Ukwu, which is now completely impassable even on foot, especially when it rained. Motorists and other road users now have to divert into village track roads to burst into Nkwo Igbo-Ukwu market in order to avoid the portion of the road that has constituted a death trap. The Igwe said that many lives have already been lost on the road because of its dilapidation. “That road has been a torn on our flesh. It has been bad for quite some time now and I have drawn the attention of the Anambra State government to it severally. When Mr Peter Obi was the governor, I drew his attention to it on six several occasions, but nothing was done. Governor Willie Obiano has come to see it, but unfortunately nothing serious has been done to address the problem. “We learnt that the governor did not agree with the Federal Government. We do not know what actually the problem is. You know this is a federal road and it is now abandoned. I think what Governor Obiano should have done is to do the road and may be present his bill to the Federal Government instead of leaving it in this state. We are terribly suffering. Besides, we are still grappling with erosion menace in our community. A lot of houses have been pulled down in some villages within my domain by flood because of the bad road. When it rains, flood overflows the drainages resulting in the destruction of domestic animals, cash crops, economic trees and household property. We are finished. We appeal to both the federal and state governments to come to our rescue urgently. We have used the little resources we have to control the flood to no avail,” the Igwe lamented. Igwe Ezeh wondered why his community would be neglected and subjected to hardship despite its traditional and archeological importance in Anambra. The traditional ruler said he had been restraining the youths of the area who were boiling not to take laws into their hands. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/bad-roads-erosion-anambra-royal-father-weeps-as-domain-suffers-untold-hardship/

menix:If you read very well you'd see where the reason for the flood was pointed out by protesting residents. Its a man made disaster. And by the way the roads are not even good to start with. |
chymystique:Hey my Governor is Okorocha. More than 20 people have died from Government insensitivity to the plight of Obosi people and all you could write is such careless conviction of law abiding citizens. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/20-missing-100-buildings-vehicles-destroyed-as-flood-wreaks-havoc-in-anambra-community/ No fewer than 20 people have been declared missing while more than 100 buildings and vehicles were destroyed yesterday by flood which ravaged Oduke, Ibollo and Owelleaja layouts in Obosi, near Onitsha, Anambra State. Oduke and Ibollo residents have been suffering the devastating effect of severe flooding which they say was caused by the wrong channelling of drainage by a construction company that rehabilitated Ezeiweka road, Awada Obosi in the past leading to a surge of heavy floods into their area. On Thursday evening, torrential rainfall that lasted for about two hours left the entire area flooded leading to several damages even as parents have been searching frantically for their missing children swept away in the flood. When Saturday Sun visited the area yesterday, women and children wept profusely while men engaged in rescue operations. Some nursing mothers, whose little babies were later rescued from the flood, were also seen clutching the babies after receiving medical attention from the hospital. Angry residents of Oduke layout had earlier blocked the busy Ezeiweka Obosi road that connects travellers to the Onitsha- Owerri highway chanting war songs while vehicular movements were stalled for several hours. The protesters said they voted massively for Chief Willie Obiano during the last governorship election that made him governor and called on him to visit their area for an on-the-spot assessment of their problems with a view to addressing them urgently be fore they all perish. Among the properties damaged in the flood included two four-storey buildings still under construction at Owelle Aja while several residential buildings, fences, schools, churches and vehicles at Oduke and Ibollo were either submerged completely or pulled down by the rampaging flood. Addresing reporters after taking them round the submerged and damaged properties, Chairman of Oduke Landlords Association, Nicholas Okechukwu and his Ibollo counterpart, Chimezie Osuchukwu, in their separate speeches, said that they have been crying out to the Anambra State government to come to their aid since 2013 till now but all to no avail. They lamented that the problem of the area is man- made disaster and tragedy foretold while they have spent all within their resources to handle the situation but help has not come from any outside quarter. They lamented that that about 10 people have died from the disaster since the problem started while they have suffered untold hardship and economic losses over the incident. Putting the estimated loss of properties from the current incident to about N2 billion, they called on the Anambra State government to declare a state of emergency in the layout and address the problem holistically. Also at the International Electronics Market, Onitsha about 1500 shops and goods worth over N800m were also damaged by flood. According to the president of the market, Mr. Izuchukwu Okoye, the flood came into the market when the volume could not be contained by the drainages along the Onitsha/Asaba expressway. “Goods damaged were mainly from A and B lines and we appeal to the state government to come to our rescue”, Okoye stated. Contributing, the Secretary of the market, Comrade Damian Ogudike said: “We pay our taxes and levies to the state government. The drainages are the problems and the expectation is that the state government should work on the drainages to be higher than they are now”. “You can see the traders insisting that the money they paid to the government should be refunded to them since their problems in the market are not being solved”, the secretary revealed. |
This flyover was constructed barely 2 years ago but is already falling apart and turned to a garbage neighbourhood. Does this place have a Governor? |

More than 20 people have died in this neighbourhood in the past one month. The youths at a time blocked the Ecpressway to show their disgust.

I strongly suspect PDP has a hand in the bombings. I'm glad we have a General as President and no mercy will be shown to whoever is found culpable. |
McKren:When will this silly lie stop? |
Lol! To the enterpreneur its about profit; to the employee its all about job and wages. What a clash. |
This was my exact argument during Presidential elections. Igbos should play politics individually and not drag all of us into a battle that we have no interest. There are equally Edos, Isokos, Urhobos, Itsekiris, Yorubas and Hausas resident in Bayelsa but none has openly taken sides. |
StOla:You are right about quota but quota system is one of the banes of Nigeria. Merit is superior to quota. |
patrick89:These genre will always remain localised while crossover hits occur once in a while. Oliver's "Biri ka m'biri" was a crossover hit while recently we have "Arabanko" a crossover hit from Bongo genre. I support you on the need for export like American country music or Jamaican Reggae. Maybe we should have a strictly highlife channel on satelite playing Oliver, Osadebe, Sir Warrior, Obewe, Morroco, Bright Chimezie, Kabaka, Mike Ejeagha, Peacocks, Sunny Bobo, Ali Chukwuma etc. Such channel will be my favorite and I'm sure diasporan Igbos will be glued to it. |
bonechamberlain:In essence to avoid collateral damage Nnamdi Kanu and others threatening Nigeria might end up as scapegoats of Boko Haram while the trye perpetrators go unpunished. Igbos were scapegoat of 1966 and we should therefore strive to avoid misguided utterances that will cause repeat of history. Let the guilty be punished for their sins. |
kaycid77:No matter how pathetic your level of tribal hatred use your God given brain sometimes. Fulani herdsmen are neither kidnappers nor armed robbers. They have moved around us for hundreds of years without such incident. This Falae's case is the 1st ever kidnapping either erroneously or correctly pointing at herdsmen. If you have records of any other please point it out. Herdsmen have always clashed with farming communities and that is understandable as cattle destroys people's cash crops and this often leads to crisis. Kidnapping for ransom is very alien to herders. |
jerusalem101:Lol. We argued about 2010 independent expenses and many of you saTANoids tried to justify the waste. This Sulaiman is trying to be clever by half like his brainless master. http://www.9jabook.com/m/blogpost?id=2109467%3ABlogPost%3A1191954 http://www..com/talk/topic,40373.0.html http://emn-news.com/10-billion-naira-budget-for-50th-independence-celebration-waiting-for-assembly-approval/ http://news2.onlinenigeria.com/news/top-stories/46289-Spending-Billion-Naira-For-Independence-Day---Adolf-fumes.html |
