Why not optimize an existing Algorithm or better still Make a program that can demonstrate/test some algorithms.

[/b]IT ALWAYS HELPS U know just thinking about possible classes, attributes, methods , procedures, Algorithms, Data types etc.

Thanks. It appears d Job market favours Db related Jobs, "Systems maintainers" and Value Added Service to customized Modules. Of all these ,it seems the DB

related function are more sought after. It makes sense though, almost all businesses need some kind of DBMS.

I would think many of the implementations in Naija are Intergration based (Netweaver) or specifics (ERP,CRM,SCM). Definately, Netweaver would be hot in Naija as many of the multinationals would want to be at par with their divisions elsewhere.

Another Q Bro: Of what use then is a programmer in JAVA and Related technologies nowadays for Enterprises. Considering most of the Enterprise Solutions being use are made already .

As regards the the DB SAP uses, there are loads applicable. It actually uses as DB abstraction Layer.

I really i'm not sure ABAP programming would be a hit @ home, most of the Companies using enterprise solutions might not even be into SAP, and 4 those using SAP, the roadmap towards Enterise Services architecture (ESA) suggests the future would be more of Business process Modelling et al and probableyless of coding (ABAP,JAVA).I just might be wrong.

My advise on Java: I guess the Best resource i've used for Java is "HEAD FIRST JAVA " by orielly.

A friend mentioned that DB2 could be a good balance between open source and propietary software Data Base Management Systems. As u rightly said, @ the end of the Day the Total Cost Ownership for Open Source software tend to be higher than that of propietary. One reason for this is the difficuty in finding adequate customer support for Open Source products.

Nonetheless, I still happen to be inclined 2wards Open Source.I guess it might be 4 subjective reasons but then I love it and i believe Nigeria might be needing it if @ at all she aims to be Software Independent.I say this knowing fully well that i might probably end up working in a firm where proprietary wares are the Norms.

Back to[b] DB2, DB2[/b] happens to come in two flavours.The free licence version that according to my frnd incorporates more features than it's contemporaries (Firebird/Interbase, MySQL etc).Many @ times most the apps needed for SMES(who r meant to be the building blocks of in developing nations) might not need beyond this features (Transaction Managment etc).

The second flavour, i understand comes as a full enterprise ready version which requires a license. I also understand upgrading isnt a nightmare and it just might be cheaper than ORACLE, MSSQL Server .Perhaps it could be a contender to Oracle for a poor country like ours.

MySQL, with all due respect, i am a fan of PHP/MySQL, but everybody get their limit, so my brother @ Seun, i see no future (Enterprise wise ) for My SQL.We will continue using it for SMF,CMS et al but when it comes to critical apps. as sbucareer suggested i see companies banking on those who have made their names and are known for their support: Oracle et al.

Question: Is the From scratch development of Enterprise apps with J2EE [/b]or [b].NET still popular or are the packaged Modules (CRM,SCM, ERP) prefered by enterprises. Any opinions on SAP , IBM and ORACLE.
