If Buhari's son made the same statement would he be in court now? If they charge him to court, he'll very likely win on the merits of the case. Same applies to this lady; it's very likely she'll win the case if the case were treated fairly. And even if she were to lose the case, how exactly has she deserved to lose her freedom? Calculate how much damage she's done and have her pay for the damages. This should even be a civil case not a criminal case so I don't know how far up his butt the judge's head had to be to reach this conclusion. O wait, corruption. That makes sense. I shaa pity us ordinary Nigerians for not having enough sense to see how this is a problem for us. We're there talking about how pained he was. I'm not here to say it's right, I'm saying it's almost always more than that. If i bring 5 ladies who were sexually assaulted, the impact on their life trajectories may be split 5 ways. You can have one who becomes suicidal and severely depressed, to the point that they kill themself shortly after. Another person may become extremely submissive to the point that she is defenseless and easily assaulted more times. Another may bury it and seemingly go on with their normal life. Yet another may turn to drugs and alcohol to help them forget. Another may become strongly feminist and completely hateful of men. The ages and specific circumstances, as well as their underlying personalities determine the various outcomes. Will i be surprised to find the one that self medicates with drugs and alcohol involved in prostitution? Not really. She likely ended up with nothing but negative influences, from people in that life. Throw in severe poverty and you have a potent mix. Others may find themselves in the same boat, via other routes. It is not correct to reduce them to "just whores". I have a 16yo who currently has no care in the world about being abused. She wants to be involved in orgies and currently believes she's bisexual. Why? If you say she's "just whoreish" , you've missed the mark. The answer lies in the individual stories. It takes a lot of patience not to simply cast someone and condemn them to hell. Zakat is a welfare tax, just the same way taxation is done in various economies. It is meant to help im addressing the problems of the least well to do in society. He might have been making a point that if this person claimed to value his advise and believed him to be a man of god whom he was willing to follow, then why wouldn't he follow up on this difficult task? Thus exposing the weakness in the man's character, which may not have been immediately obvious since he was indeed doing all these other good things. There's also what has already been mentioned about how the pursuit of wealth is almost always a distraction from the love of God, to the effect of not being able to serve two masters: your own desires and God's will. So, in the end, the pursuit of wealth falls into the same category as many of the other ways in which men worship their own desires, whilst appearing to do the right thing. And it is that polytheistic trait that leads to condemnation. So, don't literally sell all your wealth. Rather, accept that god gives wealth to whom he pleases. Make money the honest way and don't allow it's pursuit to lead you to cheating your workers or other people around you. And whatever you make honestly, be generous to others. Give what you reasonably can, and always remember a day when someone will walk into your house and take your possessions and you can do nothing about it because you're dead and in the ground. |

He wasn't wrong in drawing the conclusion that being rich makes it harder to get into the kingdom of heaven. He, however, made the mistake of confusing correlation with causation. Like you rightly said, it's not being rich that makes heaven difficult, it's what comes with being rich. Don't make assumption of people's intentions. Give them the benefit of doubt. If he is so ignorant, then your role is to correct them with kindness. And God knows best |
