ForValour:Brother, we're on the same side. Under the insane system we're in i don't see how they'll make 150k happen. I'm not a political analyst so maybe I should let those who know better speak. 100k is not in any way the destination but if it is achieved it is an important milestone on the way.. That's what I'm saying. I want to say it's obvious that i don't condone people stealing 150m naira or anything else, but maybe it's not so obvious. Sustained pressure with incremental changes is the outcome that is most realistic. As for those other countries, it's good to point out how far behind we are, but it's naive not to consider how they got there. |
ForValour:We're joking if we think 150k is realistic. I'm not saying it's not fair o, cos it is, but it's not realistic. Let them fight for around 100k minimum wage, whilst working out how to properly implement that in a way that doesn't just create more keus. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for explanation of senators' salaries. |
How much does a senator earn and what is the justification for it. That's what i want to hear about first. |
UselessBuharist:But we like betrayers. Even if he tipped him well, should he go to jail for someone else's crime or would he cut a deal to save his own life. Let them betray. I'm glad we all stand against corruption. Now we just need to advocate for the death penalty for corrupt officials |
UselessBuharist:So... It's okay to do corruption as long as he tips his accomplices, shey? Issokay. They'll start selling us off in dozens. Maybe that's when we'll have sense. |
zed7:We need to amplify this. If you take the office, you must sign an undertaking that if you're found corrupt you accept the death penalty. Let's see if they'll rush to get those posts after 2 or 3 are publicly executed |
cenaman:The ONLY crime. Issokay. It's until all these idiots auction us off to slave farms in qatar that we'll start knowing they don't have our interests at heart |
Powersurge:This is the most important point. A senator that is barely educated, and a civil servant, earns 10s of millions of naira but a professor who actually contributes to the country and is at the highest level of their career is lucky if they earn 500k. This... This is the legal robbery. We've not even gotten to all the illegal ones. Let's have them justify those salaries. Including those of ministers and such. |
VanuatuWycombe:I want to go and buy light of 200k before they move me to that band a. 20000 naira is like 300 units, and that'll last me about 2 months. That's like 120k in a year. To go from that to 20k for 80 units... That's going to be nearly half a million on light, because of what? Kukuma kill me is what i say. Kukuma kill me |
Ozommadu:A doubling to about 120 might have been more useful cos then it will be better than using gen supply but at 225... I dunno, i guess they'll have to compare it to the cost of using generators. If it doesn't exceed that cost then things may not be so disastrous. But for ordinary people i don't know how to square that circle. It's like they've colluded with all these loan apps to gradually wipe out any avenue to have savings so people will borrow even more |
In reality, we should be fighting for a 4 day working week. No, the country will not collapse if that were implemented. Oh no, they took one of extra day off the work week, how shall we ever recover? Oh, and sighting "advanced economies" is not as useful as you think it is. Ask the majority of workers in the United states and they'll tell you you're a fool for not taking the extra day off. They'll use it for you if you don't want. |
Nonybb:Hmm, no it doesn't strategically serve US. It's always about the money. AIPAC is one of the biggest donors to both Republicans and Democrats in Congress. American politicians don't cross their donors, period. |
It's best to avoid loans, period. Taking a loan is a declaration that you don't have money. But by taking the loan, you're dashing someone who has more money than you money you don't have. I understand one gets stuck and desperate sometimes, but it's important not to become comfortable with loans. Best to get money from a friend and be honest about returning it. Yes, there are people who don't return money borrowed, but the bigger problem is the terrible practises of the loan-givers. Enticing people to just borrow because it's that easy because you're hoping to get them hooked and suck them dry. If you make money off the suffering of others in a way that terribly disadvantages them, you deserve all the cheating and misfortune that comes your way |
I'm not in support of capital punishment but I'll gladly make an exception here. If you're a person whose crime causes mass suffering of people, you automatically qualify for the death penalty. In fact, it should be in the oath of the office |
It's not the necessity of the reforms that's in question, it's the way it's conducted that raises the blood pressure. Is Nigeria poor? No! No it's not. So the problem is that a few evilheads have captured the majority of resources at various levels, forcing the govt to appear poor and have to subsidise everything. Rather than do any bloody thing to address that meaningfully, we're going to focus on balancing the resources that are only artificial scarce. This approach makes sense if Nigeria is a poor country. It's not. As long as a senator who is barely educated and a public servant is paid a gazillion times more than a professor or doctor who is highly educated, useful to the public, and also a public servant... We're just punishing the poor. |
EmperorCaesar:Umm, I'm sorry for offending so gravely you thought that was the dumbest explanation conceivable. I don't know what igbo person you're talking about. I don't think it's a certain ethnicity that makes people profit off the pain of others: seems to be a universal transracial phenomenon. Anyway, have a great day |
proeast:You're right. I would just suggest you take it a little easy on the blinds followers. People are rarely well informed about the harm the rich do to them to get rich. As for me, that forbes list is a who is who of who stole the most from the poor. Maybe the tech billionaires are better, but not by much. They skirt taxes and bribe politicians so much that they ensure the continued exploitation of workers and the environment. Then they turn around and replace all those workers with gpt. Billionaires should be pariahs to be pitied not celebrities to be worshipped, with the exception of the minority that prove otherwise |
Anniemae:Old post, but i hope your friend has gotten some help now. |
Tpave:What's the number for young men being fathers? |
As for the broad statement apparently made by the pastor, the answer is yes and no. Yes, some women will respect you more. No, not all women will. It depends. It's a case-to-case judgement |
The sad part of all this is that both sides are right... To some degree. But nuance died long ago. Yes, women and men are wired differently. No, that's not a golden pass for men to cheat. If someone offends you, it is always to your credit if you train yourself to let it go. And if you can't, do the best you can. Nobody is perfect: not the cheater, not the one who finds it impossible to forgive. Nuance, people. Nuance! |
I think it's more of our african/Nigerian mentality seeping into the various religions, as well as other aspects of society. A reasonable muslim or Christian is supposed to be mindful and considerate of others, especially when they're reminded of it by others. In our various traditions though (my yoruba people) we don't mind constituting nuisance. In fact, we encourage it. We bring out tents and drums at the slightest excuse of a celebration. It's no wonder we've imported that into the practice of our religions. I hope this is enforced. Muslims can adjust their speaker direction and volume to cause the least disruption when calling to prayers. After that there's really no reason to use an external speaker for the prayer itself or any address or discussion that follows, including the Friday sermons. Carefully tuned internal speakers should be used for those. Same applies to Christians. The external speakers are completely unnecessary and the internal ones need to be adjusted to address the people in church, not the person who is going about their business outside. If you want to convert people, go and knock on their doors. Do the work. |
DavidEsq:E ma binu. We'll try to use fewer words and make more sense in future |
DavidEsq:I don't want to step in the middle of anything here but I think you may have taken the comment analysis too far. If someone says God has favoured a person or a country, it's not meant to spite others. It's the same way saying happy birthday to yourself doesn't mean you're saying others should have sad days. Also, favoring someone doesn't translate to holding them in high esteem or higher esteem than others. The general subtext to 'God has favoured you' is "I pray we are also fortunate soon". As for whether it's about the man elected or not... One thing doesn't necessarily have to be untrue for the other to be true. God has favoured them, good. God doesn't build power plants though, so he favoured them by helping them elect someone who would actually deliver. Summary, you can take another look at your stance and adjust it a little. Maybe. If you're the kind of person to value that kind of thing. |
Please relax! I’ve never been to the beach, I’ve seen the inside of an airplane only twice, to and fro Abuja pursuing something that didn’t work out. I’ve been to the movie theater only twice. Never entered a club. Did go to a police station once for some bullshit reason. I don’t feel bad about any of that. Sure it’s good to explore beyond your comfort zone and it does help to give the ol brain something more to think about but overall it’s not something i hide from. I’m okay seeing those things. I’ll go to an airport again if ever i have reason to. I’ll see a beach if it’s right behind my house, otherwise maybe if i get realllly bored shaa. Movies suck these days so why waste money and get punished by the blasts of cold air. A night club is exactly what i imagine it is: loud and sad and I’ll hate it in 5 minutes so why would i ever go. You can make a bucket list and get to those things but it shouldn’t be your priority. People lie to make their lives seem more exciting all the time. It’s okay to just do whatever makes you happy and tell them to send you a postcard from wherever. Alternatively, just book an uber, go to an airport and go back home. Problem solved |
I don’t know which stupid demands they’re making that doesn’t start from the salaries and bonuses of executives. The thing we should be fighting for is to force them to review all the obvious nonsense. There’s power in unions but we do nothing with that power because people are out for themselves in the end |
Ofcos the "aggressive" lion got "euthanized". Put a wild animal in a cage then call it wild when it goes wild. Yeah, that's pretty wild |
I like how you can always trust that there'll always be always someone to do propaganda for any misbehaving government. Russia, yes! China, absolutely. Isreal, guns blazing. Welldone nairaland. Welldone. |
