I didn’t know anything about it. The agent was trying to package some kind of seminar or whatever for me. It was only later that I realized this mistake had already been made. He didn’t even tell me about it until I asked again for my login details, which he had delayed giving me for more than a year.
I just want to know what my next step should be. Someone here mentioned that I should go ahead with the student visa application, disclose my previous refusal, and leave the rest for the visa officer to decide. Even if it results in a ban afterward, I don’t mind; at least the ban period would start running from then.

I have seen a lot of these cases including the ones where the applicants deliberately provided false information and documents on their own.

My advise.

Go ahead and submit another application with correct information and documents and leave the rest to the VO to decide.

Each application will be treated based on its merit and I see no sense in explaining too much about the previous visit visa refusal.

Remember to disclose in this new application that you have been denied a visa application to Canada and any other country as the case may be.

Hi everyone, In 2023, while I was living in South Africa, I used an agent to apply for a Canadian visitor visa on my behalf. The application was refused, the letter states that officer wasn’t convinced I would leave Canada after the visit, purpose of visit not consistent, and also assets and financial situation insufficient. Afterward, I requested the refusal letter and details of what was submitted, and discovered the agent had put false information on my application, specifically, he listed the wrong university on my education history, and he also falsely claimed I was employed with a company that I never actually worked for. I’m now planning to apply for a Canadian study permit, and I want to do things properly and honestly this time. I was advised to connect with a licensed RCIC to get proper guidance, but there fees seems very high, I wanted to ask this here directly. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation, where a previous application had inaccurate information submitted by an agent without full transparency to you? How did you address it when applying again? Did you disclose it proactively, and if so, how? Any insight from people who’ve navigated this would be genuinely appreciated. 🙏🏽🙏🏽

I don’t know anyone with this experience. One of the reasons I kick against agents is mixing up things. The agent might have done it by mistake but mostly intentional.

If I was in your shoes I would apply for the study permit without any agent even if the person want to offer his service for free.

I would reference my previous application and tell the IRCC the whole truth with evidence. Let them know I paid an agent to apply for me and he was the one who messed up my application.
Includes chats I had with the agent and prove of payment to the agent.

This time around I would submit genuine papers.

They might want to check and confirm the possibility of you having access to that fund. Money mustn't be in your acct. What matters to them is how possible it is for you to access it. Reason I said make sure you have 100% access to it.
Remember you can have access to something even if that thing is not in your possession.

The might check they might also not check.

Don’t just carry a paper showing proof of funds.

Make sure you have 100% access to the funds.

They might want to see the account. Just be ready and confident.

In my case they wanted to see if I had access to my student portal. The officer told me to login to my student portal in his presence.

Just be prepared.

Make sure you master some basic information about yourself.

The immigration officer collected my passport then asked me questions containing in my passport.


He asked questions like:
Tell me your full name.
Which of the names is your last name.
When was my passport issued.

As I was answering he was looking at the passport to confirm the information I gave him.

Just be prepared and confident.

In my case I was asked to login to my student portal using my credentials.

They will just ask random questions. Just be ready and carry everything related to you and the school.

If you have gotten an accommodation, carry receipt of payment even if it’s Airbnb

Print your letter of introduction. That is the first document they request for.
Print your medical screening test result that is if you status requires medical.

Mind you, a GIC is not a guarantee you will get the study permit. If you have the money and you can access it, I see no need for a GIC.
Two Indians I met here where telling me how they cannot withdraw all their money from GIC account the moment the landed in Canada.

I prefer the money stays in your Nigerian or dom acct.

Just prove to the officer that you can access the money.


In my case the way I could prove that I could access the money was by using money from that account to pay my tuition fee.

GIC from my little knowledge it’s meant for money for your living expenses which is around 23k CAD.

While POF is all the money available for everything concerning your study including and not limited to tuition, travel and living expenses

So if your using GIC has POF you are trying to tell the officer that you have money for your living expenses whereas the officer wants to see that you have money for everything

Nobody can possibly tell what would happen at the pot of entry.

The officers there ask random questions. A guy that was in front of me during my time was asked where he planned to stay in Canada. I was not asked that question.

There was one other guy that was asked to produce a copy of his first degree certificate.

So random questions were asked. You might be asked for that account statement you might also not be asked.

Best is to go with everything.

Secondly are you aware that you can’t withdraw all the funds in GIC at once?

The Ontario laws you claimed were against people sharing accommodation why is it not working in this part of Ontario I am? My course mate told me how her family do come to visit her and when they come, they stay with her in that one room till they go back. Why has she not been evicted or jailed?

You claimed how rooms in Ontario were so small that even one person would find it uncomfortable not to talk of two or three people living in. Yet the room I stayed in the AirBnB was wide enough to fit 5 people.
The current place I am staying, my bedroom can comfortable fit in four student's bunk and if managed well six people can fit in. I understand that all those talks were because I chose not to work with your agents.

That screenshot you posted about an accommodation, was the accommodation in Ontario where you brought your Ontario laws or was it elsewhere? If it was elsewhere, why did you bring your Ontario landlord laws to the conversation if your aim wasn't to get back at me because I kicked against your agent?

The Ontario you claimed people CANNOT share apartment, I am in Ontario and I have seen a couple of students who live in shared apartments.

Money in GIC are released in stages. First, an initial amount when you arrived and identified yourself, followed by the remaining funds in monthly or bi-monthly instalments over 10–12 months.
Do your research well.

Most college and university postgraduate certificate/diploma programs for international students cost roughly CAD $15,000–$25,000 per year. Let’s even use an average of $20,000 per year, meaning approximately $40,000 in tuition for two years.

Now, you are earning $17.60/hour at minimum wage and can only work 24 hours per week while studying.

Even if you work the maximum 24 hours every week:

$17.60 × 24 hours = $422.40/week before tax

That is nowhere near enough to cover $20,000 in annual tuition, especially when you still have rent, food, transportation, phone, clothing, and other living expenses.

Yes, you may get a couple of weeks of holiday where you can work full-time before the next term, but that doesn't magically solve the tuition problem.

And then you have to factor in the unemployment rate, which is around 6.4%, meaning getting a part-time job is not even guaranteed in the first place.

But you know, maybe I still don't know what I'm talking about, right? 😂

This is exactly why I keep saying: do the maths before coming to Canada. Don't build your entire plan around the assumption that you will work part-time and somehow pay international tuition from those earnings.

Now to the issue of using loan to fund tuition, I can remember someone here once asked if passage was genuine and that he wanted to use them for loan and I quoted him and told him if his plan was to use loan and fund his education that I would not advise or encourage it. Someone else told him about the interest and all that.
I can’t remember you and I arguing or having a disagreement concerning the use of loan.
My issue with you was agents. After commenting on that guy’s post against borrowing money I didn’t go further on that topic.
