When I arrive in Canada next month, I will create a thread on "MY PERSONAL EXPERINCE" The thread will cover every step I took from getting my NIN to getting my Passport, to applying to schools, to applying for study permit, to landing in Canada, to questions asked my border officers to how I got accommodation in Canada. Just everything about me and this Canada and I will include my experience with Lagos state neighborhood security how I got arrested by them the night to my medical screening. (Actually that arrest was a blessing in some way. If I wasn't arrested, I would have missed my returning flight to PH). I will gist una everything make I just enter Cana first.

I think I will also create a video of myself in Canada becos one clown here who claims Canada issues Permanent Study Permit said that the approval portal I posted here I got it from the internet. He also claimed that it is impossible to submit your passport for visa stamp and get it within 5 business days because I said I submitted mine on Monday and got it on Friday. But thank God another person on this thread said his own was ready for collect within 5 days.
The clown knows less or nothing about Canadian study permit. He started attacking me because I said throughout my application process I employed the services of ChatGPT and not an agent. He got bitter I will spoil his work because he is an agent. I discouraged people from using agents and he got mad.

Tuition deposit is a part of your tuition fee. It is that money you pay to claim a spot in school. It's always one of the conditions outlined on your offer letter before the final unconditional letter is issued.

What we did was correct. Nothing to be done for now. But send them an email 14 days before departure. What the other guy talked about was eligibility for Dubai Connect

so if there's another option on that same day with a shorter connection time lower than 6hrs, you might not be eligible
but I've read reports from people that they are still eligible even though there are options which much shorter connections available(less than the 6hrs threshold)

Can you tell us the condition you saw there? On my end the condition I saw is that you have to get a long stop over in Dubai to qualify for the Dubai Connect and the Dubai Connect is subject to availability and visa eligibility.

I have the same connection time with him (23hrsr 5min) totaling (44hrs 50mins). But we are not traveling the same date and I am qualified for the Dubai Connect. I think one of the condition to qualify for the Dubai Connect is if you have a longer layover time.

@AbelAbdul, did you write English proficiency exams like IELTS or PTE? Did you submit it when you were applying for your study permit?

When I was applying to schools in Canada, I uploaded my WAEC as English proficiency certificate. One of the schools waved the English proficiency test for Nigerians. One of the schools rejected the WAEC and requested for IELTS.

To your question, yes, I wrote it though I used WAEC for most of my applications including visa application. It was only one of the schools that rejected the WAEC.

Do you simply want to earn a master's degree in Canada, or is your goal to get an education, work for a few years, and eventually apply for permanent residency (PR)?

If your plan is to work and then qualify for PR, I don't want to be harsh, but I do want to be honest with you. Media, Marketing, and Advertising are generally not programs that lead to jobs that qualify for many of Canada's category-based Express Entry draws. As I asked earlier, it really depends on what you want to achieve in Canada...

I am not discouraging you from coming to Canada. I just want you to do more research on programs that could better position you for success after graduation, especially if your long-term goal is employment and permanent residency.

As for cheaper schools, "cheap" is relative. What is affordable for you may not be affordable for me. However, in general, for master's programs, Memorial University is one of the most affordable universities in Canada

If you're looking at colleges, some of the more affordable are College of the North Atlantic, Lambton College, Fanshawe College, Bow Valley College

so do small research by yourself ask queations here people that know more than me are here also do not set yourself up to fail in the long run PLEASE

If you earn ₦300,000 a month and your wife earns ₦0, your household budget is ₦300,000.

Does she have something she can activate to hold the house down while you recover? Or is the plan just "God will provide"?

I hear you. I loved someone once.

Let me tell you what happened.

I was with a girl for over a year. Beautiful girl. Kind heart. The type of person who would give you her last meal if you asked.

But she had no skill. No trade. No income. No hustle.

Her entire economic identity was ME.

When I was making money, we were fine. The house was good. Groceries were stocked. Fuel was in the generator. Life was beautiful.

Then I had a bad quarter. Two deals fell through. Cash flow dried up for about 6 weeks.

I didn't go broke. I had savings. But things got tight.

And the MOMENT things got tight, I realized something terrifying:

I was carrying two lives on one back.

Not because she was lazy. She wasn't. She was willing to do anything.

But "willing" and "able" are two different words.

She didn't have a skill that someone would pay for. She didn't have a network she could leverage. She didn't have a side hustle she could activate during emergencies.

She had willingness. Which is useless without capability.

The next woman I commit to must bring something to the table that isn't love.

Love is the MINIMUM. Not the qualification.

The qualification is: can you hold this house down if I fall?

Here's what that looks like in practice.

I have a friend. Let's call him T.

T married a woman who runs a small skincare business from Instagram. She makes about ₦300,000 to ₦450,000 a month. Not massive. But consistent.

Last year, T's business hit a wall. A major client defaulted. He lost about ₦4 million in receivables over 3 months.

Most men in that situation would spiral. Borrow money. Take on bad deals out of desperation. Fight with their wives about expenses.

T didn't do any of that.

Because his wife's ₦300k-₦450k per month covered the essentials. Rent was already paid. She handled groceries. She handled the children's school runs. She handled utilities.

T had SPACE. Space to think. Space to restructure. Space to recover without destroying himself.

By the fourth month, he'd landed a new contract. Bigger than the one he lost.

He told me later:

"If I'd married the girl I was 'in love with' at 25 instead of the woman I chose at 30, I would have been finished. Because that girl at 25 had nothing but vibes. This woman at 30 had a business."

That's the difference.

A wife with a skill is not an insult to your masculinity. It's insurance for your household.

A wife who can hold things together during your worst quarter is worth more than a wife who looks perfect during your best year.

Now, someone will read this and say:

"So you don't believe in love?"

I believe in love the way I believe in fuel. Fuel is necessary. You can't drive without it.

But fuel without an engine is just liquid sitting in a jerry can.

Love without utility is just feelings sitting in a relationship going nowhere.

I want both. The love AND the engine.

But if you make me choose, I'm choosing the engine.

Because the engine can take me somewhere even when the fuel is low.

Feelings can't do that.

I'm in a better place now financially. I made 1.2 million from a single deal last month. Took about 4 hours of real work spread across a few weeks. The rest was waiting.

But I remember those 6 weeks when cash was tight. And I will NEVER put myself in a position where my household has one engine again.

Two incomes. Two skill sets. Two people who can carry the weight.

That's architecture.

Build a house with two pillars, not one.

Just pray and hope for the best

Do not pay anyone a penny to process your study permit. If you can read simple instructions and understand them, you can do it on your own.

I choose course with PGWP.

I got admission from many schools some said on the offer letter that co-op work was optional. The school I later settled for stated that co-op work was mandatory.

While I was filling form for study permit I saw where it was asked if work was essential part of my study and I said 'NO'.

When my study permit was approved and I went back to check my offer letter I realized that my offer letter stated co-op work and I filled in study permit that work wasn't essential party of my study.

I quickly mailed my school and informed them the mistake I made. My school told me when I arrive in Canada at the port of entry once the officer at the POE issue me my study permit I should read through it before leaving. If I discover that the permit doesn't permit me to work in or off campus, I should call the attention of the officer and tell them to change it.

The school sent me a mail I should show to the officers at the POE telling them that my permit must include "allowing me work in or off campus"

The school also told me that From April 2026, Canada stopped giving co-op work permit separately from study permit (Meaning that before April 2026, co-op permit and study permit used to be separate). The school said I must make sure my study permit allows me to work in Canada.

The school sent me a mail I need to show to the officer at the POE to include work in my study permit.

I applied for Seneca College for the September intake, the required tuition deposit is $9,975.02 which am to pay before August 1st 2026.

My first year fee is $18,956.61(This is estimated for Two semesters)

My tuition deposit was $2000CAD and it's inclusive in the first year tuition fee.

Two semesters (terms) make up one academic year. If you are asked to pay $9,975.02 as deposit fee, confirm from them if it's refundable before you pay o.

For my program, tuition fee is not a flat rate it's based on the number of courses I register. The more courses I register the more fees I pay.

Thanks for your response, other process like the POF process, all documents that will be required. Do you have any guide on how to calculate how much is needed for POF? And the official website used for currency conversion by Canada immigration Office? For the refundable part, in the conditional offer given, it's stated that 2000CAD of the 10kCAD of the part tuition is unrefundable.

During my time of application, my school said if my study permit is refused they will refund my tuition deposit. The only money the won't refund was the 125CAD application fee.

For POF you must show ATLEAST your one year tuition fee. If the program is more than 1yr, show how you intend to pay for the following years without having to work in Canada.
You must show you have at least $22,895CAD to cover your living expenses for one year. If your program is more than one year you demonstrate how you tend to survive for the coming years without having to work in Canada.

In my own case I used OANDA Currency Converter and my study permit was approved. It was not specified which converter to be used.

My program is two years. I showed POF for the two years tuition fees and living expenses for the two years. So there wasn't any need for me to convince them on how I intend to pay for the rest of the year. Then, after paying for the tuition deposit, I paid for one year tuition. I could have just applied for study permit with just the tuition deposit but ChatGPT advised I pay one year tuition and that was what I did.

The receipts for the tuition deposit and one year tuition fee I attached them to my POF.

Paying tuition deposit is one of the conditions in your offer letter and that condition must be met before you are given unconditional offer. So you must pay. But before you pay, mail the school and ask if the money is refundable in case the study permit is refused.

My own school gave me 31st March, 2026 as deadline.


What do you mean by 'other process'? I paid mine before applying for study permit because I needed that 'unconditional offer letter' to apply for study permit.
