fibonacci2526: Am more wary of their ZUI, acekid109 how is your k5 pro holding up? the k5 pro is quite good for the hardware part, the software side, miui is quite better, considering the fact that zui is a miui wannabe. Concerning ram management, it also kills ram in the background like miui. I'll stay away from zui next time though, i miss stock android. One positive thing is they release updates and they actually fix things with their updates, presently on November security update and auto brightness and speakers was fixed, unlike miui where u barely see difference in updates |

ThePrekky: Guys please, which is a better choice for someone looking to upgrade from Xiaomi Redmi 5plus?
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 pro OR Huawei Y9 2019. Also, please, who knows if Huawei's ROM is anything as sweet and customisable as MIUI? What are your thoughts? Thanks if you don't mind the unlockable bootloader of a thing, the huawei is a good buy. EMUI too is great, plenty features like miui, you also get a better chipset too |

Lavoca: I already have orange fox recovery installed which I intend to use but how do I disable data encryption? Device is also rooted
Cc scotweezy the last time I checked, no oreo miui 10 for r5plus (Chinese rom) , dunno of now though. It's better to use fastboot rom (global rom) to avoid cust (region) issues as someone also suggested earlier on. While using fastboot, do not select the lock bootloader option sha |
Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by acekid109(m): 7:48pm On Dec 16, 2018 |
scotweezy: I would advise you use the fastboot route, why? A lot of shit could happen since you're moving not just from a major android version to another but also MiUi versions. And I noticed something on a new redmi 5 plus I helped updated a few days ago. First and foremost, I unlocked the bootloader(had to wait for 72hrs before the bootloader unlocked) On booting to two different custom recoveries(orange fox and official TWRP), the screen failed to respond to touch, Infact! It failed to respond at all on the orange fox recovery whereas it did an "on & off" on the TWRP. I did a lot of back and forth and even ended up bootlooping on one occasion and eventually soft-bricking the device. I was lucky the phone was still booting back to fastboot which afforded me the opportunity to rectify the soft-bricked state the phone was in, by downloading the Fastboot rom and flashing with the Miflash tool.
Summary: If data is not an issue, save yourself the imminent occurrence of soft-bricking by downloading the fastboot rom of the latest update and flashing through MiFlash tool.
Note: If you're reading this and you're planning to use the official custom TWRP recovery, kindly download the "Lazy flasher Dm verity.zip" This file should be flashed before rebooting into system, in order to ensure your device doesn't bootloop immediately you're done in the recovery. Failure on my own part to flash that zip apparently caused the bootloop I faced. Also, don't forget to disable any form of encryption on your device before flashing any recovery.
The above was just my experience on the Redmi 5 plus, It was mostly smooth sailing with my Redmi Note 4 Global. Though some of the points above should be taken into consideration whilst planning a journey of Xiaomi flashing the screen panel is mostly responsible for the twrp touch issues on xiaomi phones |

Lavoca: How do I flash MIUI 10 with bootloader unlocked and phone rooted on Redmi 5 plus
Cc GrandMufti Gptech acekid109 you can use updater to download the ota, or get the update file manually and update it using updater also, you'll likely lose root access though, it's advisable to download the full rom if u have a custom recovery |

CuteMaro: Various, ranging from selfie camera not working, to green tint in pics produced using selfie camera, focus haunting & stability issues. Each one must come with one problem or the other & the only feature one really needs on gcam is the night sight, otherwise its totally not worth it.
If your stock cam produces decent images, then there's absolutely no need for gcam coz to me its a scam unless u get a stable one which is most unlikely. Gcam is not scam o, if you know you know , there are stable ones, i explained in the previous post |

Mrcalxy: This was the same case with Rmn4X I have to disagree with this, gcam on rn4 was the most stable I used (I had samsung sensor camera) pple with omnivision had issues though, each developer also has device they targeted, as of now there are more than 200 gcam ports available, you just have to get the one that d developer use your phone or something similar. Then it was authur and urikill version that was most compatible with rn4 so the gcams were pretty stable |
