No fewer than seven people were killed and 16 others injured in a fresh violence that broke out yesterday in Wukari local government area of Taraba State.

The ugly development is coming barely 24 hours after the state election petition tribunal sacked the governor, Darius Ishaku.
It was gathered that trouble started when residents of Wukari reacted angrily to the tribunal verdict.

“When the sad news got to the town, supporters of both parties suddenly started killing themselves,” a resident told Leadership, adding that property worth millions of Naira was also destroyed.
According to him, the crisis has now turned into a Christians versus Muslims fight.

“The crisis, as we are talking, has turned into religious fight. The Christians are alleging that the tribunal chairman, who ordered the removal of Governor Ishaku was biased,” he said.
Reacting to the development, spokesman of the Taraba State Police Command, DSP Joseph Kwaji, confirmed the crisis, but said he was yet to ascertain the actual figure of casualties.

On his part, the senior special adviser on media and publicity to Governor Ishaku, Mr. Slyvanus Giwa, said soldiers had been drafted to the area to control the situation.

“Normalcy is gradually returning to the ancient city of Wukari and government is doing its best to ensure that people go about their normal businesses,” he said.

He warned that anyone who tried to take the laws into their hand would be arrested to face the law

I have read reports of details of the decision in the Taraba Election Petition Tribunal & some issues worry me. Let me address one of them The fundamental basis for nullifying Darius Ishyaku’s election was that Peoples democratic party (PDP) didn’t comply with Section 85 of the Electoral Act in notifying Independent National Electoral Commission of its primaries For the avoidance of doubt, this is what Section 85 of the Electoral Act EA provides. https://www.lawyard.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/S85.png Apparently Peoples democratic party only informed Independent National Electoral Commission of its primaries in Abuja on the day the primaries held. As such, the primaries were nullified. Legit!!. In the case of Atai v Dangana, the Supreme Court set a precedent & stated that non-compliance with this provision nullifies a primary election. If we follow this SC decision & the provisions of Section 85(1) of the Electoral Act, we must agree with the decision of the Tribunal. We simply must. But this is only where the issues begin to worry me. Something is not going right in out judiciary. I will show you. This is the notice given by APC to INEC informing them of the conduct of various primaries. Please tilt your device.Apc notice For its House of Assembly primaries APC gave only 13 days notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission instead of 21 days.
For its Governorship primaries, All progressives Congress gave INEC only 16 days notice instead of 21 days. For its House of Representative & Senate primaries, APC gave INEC only 19 days & 20 days notice respectively instead of the stipulated 21 days . The only primaries of which INEC was validly given 21 days notice was the APC Presidential primaries. If we follow the decisions of the SC in Atai v Dangana & S85 EA, APC did not have a valid candidate for any election except Presidential. PDP has raised this issue in several tribunals & it was disregards. One of such was in the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal.

In Dakuku v Wike, this issue was disregarded. Yet in Alhassan v Ishyaku,INEC and ors it was used to nullify the election. Why the conflict?. There seems to be a pattern where issues of law are resolved to favour APC but disregarded when it involves the PDP. Its only spells danger. This also means is that Hajia Alhassan was also not validly nominated to contest the elections.
Taraba should be having a rerun election. The import of all I have pointed out is that Taraba shld be having a rerun election. Hajia Alhassan was not validly nominated either. Make of the wider issue of independence/impartiality of the judiciary what you will. But I am very uncomfortable with recent judgments

Judicial regulations stipulates that the CC should suspend the trial until the supreme court finally adjudicates on the matter!!!An inferior court cannot br sitting side by side with the supreme court !! That is judicial rascality of the highest order!! I hope the NJC descends heavily on the CCT chair!! We cant have such compromised men manning our benches.

Judicial authorities and seniority usually make a lower court step aside while a matter is being appealed at a higher court but that as changed as only the reading of the judgement can be suspended according to S305 of the ACJA

On the first bolded it seems you dont get it according to NCC regulations (Sim Registration regulations) which MTN signed to be binding on them stipulated that for every sim card improperly registered and not deactivated a fine of 200,000 would be imposed/payable.Fortunately or unfortunate MTN had 5 million improperly unregistered sims which where not deactivated as at when due.
The law is very simple, it not like the NCC just woke up one day and unilaterally imposed the fine on them
