Unfortunately it's not looking like that and it's very dangerous for our democracy.
I knew this would happen long time ago once Tinubu was elected.

Tinubu unlike Buhari is a seasoned Politician that has mastered the habit of weakling oppositions. He did it in Lagos and he's currently on the path of doing it again in Nigeria.
Every notable PDP Politicians will in one way or the other get something from Tinubu administration either directly or by proxy.

Though PDP started their self extinction but if not rallying together,Tinubu will help them to nail their burial coffin very soon.

Blame nobody,it's what it is, Politics is about bringing people to your side especially monitized Politics like ours unfortunately most of our politicians lack ethics to resist this.

PoliticsRivers Redeploys State Assembly Clerk, Deputy Amid Political Crisis by Addme(op): 6:43am On Nov 24, 2023
The Rivers state government has redeployed Emeka Amadi, clerk of the house of assembly.

In a circular dated November 20 and issued by the office of the head of civil service, Amadi was redeployed to the state scholarship board.

The head of service did not name a replacement to succeed Amadi.

The state government also redeployed Calistus Ojirika, the deputy clerk/ head of department (HOD) legislative department, to the readers project.

Georgewill Otto, an assistant director at the ministry of physical planning and urban development, was redeployed to Rivers State Small Town and Rural Water Supply Agency.

Amadi and Ojirika were asked to hand over to the most senior officers in the house of assembly.

According to the circular, the posting takes effect immediately.

The development comes about three weeks after an attempted impeachment of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers.

Rivers has been grappling with a political crisis linked to the rumoured rift between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the immediate former governor of the state and current minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s reported intervention to restore peace in the state, there are speculations that the political crisis is far from being resolved.

PoliticsBabajide Owodunni: Appeal Court Sacks Ogun PDP Lawmaker by Addme(op): 8:49am On Nov 23, 2023
The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has nullified the election of Babajide Owoduni of the Peoples Democratic Party as the lawmaker representing Ikenne State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

The court therefore declared Kunle Sobukola of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the March 18 State Assembly election in Ikenne State Constituency.

The appellate court in the appeal with suit number CA/1B/EP/SHA/OG/23/2023 Hon Olakunle Sobukanla & Anor v. INEC & 2 Ors directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue Sobukola Certificate of Return as the duly elected member representing Ikenne State Constituency in the State House of Assembly.

In March 2023, INEC declared Owodunni the winner of the election, despite the fact that on March 6, 2023, 12 days before the election, Owodunni resigned from the PDP and withdrew from the contest in letters delivered to the PDP and INEC.

Owodunni also went to Ogun State High Court, where he swore an affidavit of voluntary withdrawal from the race.

At the time, when PDP received Owodunni’s resignation and withdrawal notices, PDP wrote to INEC in an attempt to replace him, but INEC refused the replacement, retained Owodunni as the recognised candidate, and then issued him a certificate of return.

At the tribunal, Owodunni narrated a story about how he was kidnapped and forced to sign the withdrawal letters and affidavit.

Counsels to Sobukanla and the APC confronted him with contrary evidence, showing that Owodunni was freely campaigning for the APC after withdrawing from the race.

They also played a video in which Owodunni said, “As far as this local government is concerned, PDP does not have a candidate in Ikenne Local Government. I still remain the bonafide PDP candidate and I willingly withdraw my mandate that I no longer have any dealings with them.”

With these crucial pieces of evidence, the Tribunal rejected Owodunni’s claim of duress and held that Owodunni truly withdrew from the race.

However, the tribunal refused to void Owodunni’s return by INEC on the grounds that Owodunni withdrew less than 90 days before the election and that such a withdrawal was invalid.

In the appeal, APC and Sobukanla argued that a withdrawal can be made at any time and that a withdrawal is complete once it is made in writing and delivered to the political party in question, irrespective of whether the political party informs INEC or not.

APC and Sobukanla argued that the 90 days stipulated in the Electoral Act is just the deadline for a political party to replace a withdrawn candidate, but that there is no provision of the Act or legal principle that prevents a candidate from withdrawing less than 90 days before an election because withdrawal is complete the moment it is communicated to the party, stressing that the party has no role to play.

They referred the Court of Appeal to the decisions of the Supreme Court in PDP v. INEC and the Presidential Election Petition Court in APM v. INEC, both of which were decided this year on the alleged double nomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The Court of Appeal, in a panel comprising of Hon Justice Theresa Ngolika Orji-Abadua, Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris and Hon. Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari saw merit in these strong legal arguments and upheld them.

Consequently, the withdrawal of Owodunni was upheld by the appellate court while his declaration and return by INEC were set aside.

PoliticsFG Asks Supreme Court To Extend Deadline Of Old Naira Notes by Addme(op): 5:41pm On Nov 22, 2023
The federal government has filed an application before the supreme court seeking an extension for old naira notes to remain in circulation.

In March 2023, the supreme court had extended the deadline to phase out the old naira notes to December 31, 2023.

In the fresh application, the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) said due to the economic crisis, it has not been able to print the volume of new notes that would enable it phase out old currency before December 31.

According to Lateef Fagbemi, AGF, “since the said consequential order was made, the federal government, in compliance with this honourable court’s order, directed the CBN to engage and has been engaging the respondents in their individual capacities and in their capacities as members of the National Council of State and National Economic Council with respect to the Naira redesign policy”.

“In between the time the order was made and now, there was a presidential election in the country which has led to a transition from the immediate-past government and the incumbent government which is just settling down,” he said.

The incumbent government has, however, directed the Central Bank to come up, by a way of policy direction, with how the naira redesign policy will be addressed in full compliance with the order of this honourable court.

Whilst working on the policy direction and due to the economic crisis being witnessed by the government of the federation and other factors beyond its control, the government of the federation to date has not been able to print the new 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes in the equal proportion of the old 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes sought to be recalled as consultation with critical stakeholders is still on-going on how best to approach the redesign policy.

“People have been hoarding the new notes on the speculation that the 31 December deadline for the old notes to seize to be legal tender may not be met.

To effectively stabilise the economy, the federal government is of the strong view that the old versions of 200, 500 and 1,000 notes should continue to be legal tender alongside the new versions.

“Following the deadline for the validity of the old 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes ordered by this honourable court will make the government of the federation to push the country into another national, economic and financial crisis which this honourable court sought to prevent in the first instance by its judgment in the afore-mentioned suit.

“The only way to save the nation from both of the above situations is by the order of this honourable court to grant the prayers in this application.”

The supreme court has fixed November 30 to hear the application.

On November 14, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said old naira notes will remain legal tender indefinitely.

PoliticsSenators Tackle Akpabio Over Choice Of Senate Minority Leaders by Addme(op): 4:39pm On Nov 21, 2023
There was an uproar in the Senate on Tuesday following the announcement of two minority leaders by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The seats of the Senate Minority Leader and Minority Whip became vacant after the Court of Appeal sacked the former occupants, Senator Simon Davou Mwadkwon (PDP, Plateau North) and Darlington Nwokocha (LP, Abia Central) respectively.

The courts nullified the election of Mwadkwon and ordered a rerun while Nwokocha was removed as Augustine Akobundu of the PDP was declared as the authentic winner of the 25 February election in the senatorial district.

The PDP senators had, last week, held an emergency crucial meeting on the replacement for the principal positions of Senate Minority Leader and Minority Whip. Senator Garba Maidoki (PDP, Bauchi), who briefed journalists after the closed-door meeting, had said the opposition lawmakers settled for the North Central geo-political zone to produce the Minority Leader.

During Tuesday’s plenary, Akpabio announced the duo of Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South) as minority leader and Osita Ngwu (PDP, Enugu West) as minority whip.

The Senate President said the new minority leaders had the majority support of their colleagues in the opposition.

He said 41 minority senators signed the document endorsing Moro as minority leader while 30 backed Ngwu for the minority whip seat. The announcement did not sit well with other parties in the minority caucus, especially the Labour Party.

Raising a point of order, Senator Okechukwu Ezea (LP, Enugu North), protested the absence of his party in the minority leadership, describing the arrangement as an injustice against other minority parties.

How can the PDP take three minority leadership seats? This is unfair, unjust, and unacceptable,” he said.

The Senate after that degenerated into a rowdy session with LP lawmakers rejecting their party’s exclusion in the minority leadership.

Amid the uproar, Senator Tony Nwoyi (LP, Anambra North) accused Akpabio of picking minority leaders for the opposition parties.
How can you be choosing minority leaders for us? Are we your slaves?” Nwoyi tackled the Senate President. Lawmakers from the ruling party made frantic efforts to pacify their colleagues from LP, some of whom approached Akpabio for consultation.

After about 15 minutes of rowdy session, the Senate President addressed the opposition lawmakers and dismissed the claim of his interfering in the affairs of the opposition.

Akpabio said he only announced the names forwarded to him by the opposition caucus and that it would be unfair not to respect the voice of the majority.

He, therefore, urged the opposition caucus to always put their house in order before forwarding any name to him.

He said, “All we need to produce a leader is a simple majority. What’s the reason for not agreeing with the position of the majority?

“41 minority senators signed for Abah Moro and 30 signed for Osita Ngwu. They have the majority. It will be unfair for me not to announce them after getting a majority of support. My job is not to work with individual opinion but with the majority of positions.

“Efforts by Senator Adamu Aliero (PDP, Kebbi) to convince Akpabio to stay action on the seat of the minority whip failed as the Senate President ruled him out of order.

Aliero explained that the opposition caucus resolved that Abba Moro should be the minority leader but was yet to decide on the position of the minority whip.

But Akpabio referred him to Senate Standing Rule 52(6), which says it shall be out of order for any senator to speak on any issue that has already been decided.

Akpabio, therefore, ruled Aliero out of order.

PoliticsAppeal Court Affirms Benue Governor Alia's Victory by Addme(op): 2:21pm On Nov 20, 2023
The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, on Monday affirmed the election of Hyacinth Alia as governor of Benue State.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the March 18 governorship election, Titus Uba had approached the appellate court to set aside the judgment of the tribunal which upheld Alia’s election.

At the tribunal, Uba among other things alleged that Alia’s deputy, Samuel Ode, presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission contrary to Section 182(1)(j) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

He also claimed that Alia’s name was submitted less than 180 days before the election date, and Ode was also not submitted to INEC after the party conducted a further re-run primary election.

A three-member panel of the tribunal, headed by Justice Ibrahim Karaye, dismissed the petition on the ground that it was a pre-election matter and was statute-barred.

Ruling on the appeal on Monday, the appeal court’s three-member panel led by Justice Onyekachi Aja Otisi held that the Uba failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the allegations of forgery against Ode.

Foreign AffairsJavier Milei Wins Argentina Presidential Run-Off Election by Addme(op): 10:47am On Nov 20, 2023
Far-right libertarian outsider Javier Milei has won Argentina’s presidential run-off poll, according to provisional results.

Milei’s rival, economy minister Sergio Massa, called him to concede.

In his victory speech to supporters in Buenos Aires, Milei said: “Today begins the reconstruction of Argentina. Today begins the end of Argentina’s decline.
“The model of decadence has come to an end. There is no way back.

“Argentina will return to its place in the world that it should never have lost. We are going to work shoulder-to-shoulder with all nations of the free world, to help build a better world.”

After his defeat, Massa said: “Obviously the results are not what we expected. I have contacted Javier Milei to congratulate him.

From tomorrow the responsibility of providing certainty belongs to Milei.”
It was a close race to the very end but the former pundit who at one point wielded a chainsaw on the campaign trail, won out.

The election comes at a difficult time for Argentina with rising inflation and an economy in crisis on people’s minds.

Milei’s proposals, which included detonating the central bank, won the support of voters desperate for change.

Provisional results showed Milei had nearly 56% of the vote compared with 44% for Massa, with almost 90% of votes counted.
A man who has been likened to former US President Donald Trump, and ex-Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro, Javier Milei is untested. But that was part of his appeal.

His talk of introducing the US dollar as the country’s official currency was met with applause by his supporters. Many economists though talk of financial disaster.

No matter, in a country where annual inflation is now over 140% and two in five people live in poverty, his win proves that Argentinians are fed up with traditional politics and economic disaster.

His victory means they are willing to try something new in an effort to make their lives better.

Former US President Donald Trump congratulated Milei on his victory, saying he would “Make Argentina Great Again!”.

Trump posted on his Truth Social platform: “The whole world was watching! I am very proud of you.

“You will turn your country around and truly Make Argentina Great Again!”

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan congratulated Milei on his election “and to the people of Argentina for holding free and fair elections”.

Posting on X, he said the US would “look forward to building on our strong bilateral relationship based on our shared commitment to human rights, democratic values, and transparency”.
