fOFT: Thanks @adedammy009, I appreciate you comment. I believe January 1, 2024, is realistic because I will be filing from outside Nigeria. I have attended about three webinars, and 7-8 applicants got their I-140 approved on average in 70–75 days (not expedited applications). If the trend continues, I will get the visa in the next month (ember months) and move to the US on or before January 1, 2024. For my B2 visa, I submitted my DS-160 form two days before my visa appointment (this is another reason to be optimistic about the planned date). I am rooting for you. I also got approved in less than 50 days (notice date), and not premium processing. All the best in the process. |

fOFT: We can exchange knowledge if you work in STEM. So far, I've written four (4) reference letters (recommendation letters) I'm working on my letter and expect to finish it by this time next week (31/03/2023).)
I will equally send to two of my friends to help double-check. (so as to implement their feeback) Finally, I will submit everything to my personal lawyer to double-check before sending to USCIS in April. Hopefully, I'll be in the United States by January 1, 2024. Just to encourage you on the journey and say it is doable. I also want to say your set date to be in the US looks quite ambitious to me but I must commend your faith. All the best in the process. |

Gratefulme: Hello everyone. A principal applicant and his dependants had their interview same day and got approved. He now wants to travel alone while his dependants will join him few months later.
My question is, will there be a problem at the port of entry? Is this a risk not worth taking?
Thanks in advance The principal applicant must land before or same time as dependants. Dependants must land before visa expiration but not earlier than the principal applicant.. .that's around 6 months from medical. Dependants will not have any issue so far the visa is still valid even if the principal applicant landed earlier. Best wishes. |

SAYOSOLA: Alright, I guess a lot of patience is needed in this journey o.. Let's hope things will get better at the embassy, I will let you know if I find any useful information on the possibility of an expedite.
Thanks for the tip on the police clearance! Did you submit original of the certificate and the fingerprints or photocopies?
I will also need to submit a foreign police clearance, but unlike the naija one, it doesn't have the fingerprints attached. I hope NVC will be familiar with countries that issue certificates without fingerprints. I don't think you should mail any original of your documents to NVC, only mail copies. Your originals will be sighted at the embassy during the interview. |

Koldfuzhion: I'm on EB2-NIW. I haven't gotten any headway with an expedite. The requirements for expedite seem a bit more difficult to justify with a self-petition. I'm open to advice on how to proceed with this...
With the NVC docs, it is best to double check the requirements before submission so that NVC doesn't request for additional information. For example, I had to submit the police clearance twice because I didn't include the fingerprints. That added an extra month before getting DQ. If I get you correctly, we need to send the finger prints with the police clearance to NVC? |

InvestorTeeMan: Congratulations to you Just fill out the information on the approval letter and give the original to the person and he/she must go with government issued ID and copy of your own ID too. If u give the person photocopy of the approval they won’t attend to him/her. I think you should highlight the last part of the statement. Meanwhile, please drop the link to the NPC attestation of birth. Thanks |

But you can also get it done at the NPC office closer to you if you’re far from agege. Agege is quite accessible to me but just wondering if the attestation can be gotten outside Lagos. I was born in Lagos but can arrange it from Ibadan easily. Thanks |

Regarding documents gathering, for birth certificate, did you submit the old birth certificate or it must be attestation of birth. Thanks |

weaseloo: Hi guys,
What are the alternatives or way out for this family:
The visa interview date (eb2 niw application) has been released and the location is Lagos. But due to unforeseen circumstances the wife cannot attend the interview in Lagos because she lives outside Nigeria and will not be able to return to Nigeria for the interview.
What can they do not to miss this opportunity? Were you able to attend the interview with your wife or you decided to reschedule. How long after Dq did you get an interview date. How did the interview go? How long after the interview was your visa approved? Thanks in advance. |

Helpout12345: All immigrant visas appointment of similar country where interviews will take place are put into same pool after DQ. In this case, all IR, CR, F, EB visas appointment follow same pool. Just that F and EB visas appointments will not be scheduled from that pool unless priority date is current for F and EB categories.
In your own case of EB3, your priority date is current. The only thing that will delay your interview from being scheduled is how back logged Lagos embassy is at the moment.
From my findings, Lagos immigrant section is very backlogged at the moment. The current wait time for interview in Lagos for immigrants visas is 12 to 15 months wait time.
You can also email NVC to make an enquiry to confirm this wait time for Lagos
All the best ! Thanks to you and others for the time and sacrifice in answering many questions on here. I was just thinking if we can have a telegram group where US employment based visa (EB1, EB2, EB3) applicants can meet and navigate the processes together, it will be a good idea. hollo: How can someone currently in Nigeria pay the NVC fees? On the NVC website its stated that (You will need a bank routing number and a checking or savings account number from a U.S. based bank. ). Please experts in the house, kindly advise. Thanks The easiest way is to get a trusted friend or family member in the US to help do it. You can transfer USD to the person via Wise transfer app or site. |

Helpout12345: Hmm. This is a tricky one because of the high disparity between official and common exchange rates in Nigeria.
To answer your question, you can present your savings in both USD and/or NGN. You can even add more other liquid assets like stocks etc. But I will advise you use common black market rate to present equivalent of your NGN in dollars to be on the safe side because the VOs know many individuals in Nigeria cannot get dollars at official rates.
Your organization is very important here. The VO has just 1 to 3 minutes to review everything around this. Do a listing of all your asset details in a printed excel format, back up with all required documents to proof all the listed assets (raw cash in banks, stocks, other assets).
If you are presenting other type of assets like stocks, real estate, remember to back them up with stocks certificates and other official documents.
All well arranged and put together in a folder you can just hand over to the VO at a go. Thanks for taking time to explain. I actually mentioned the use of official dollar rate as other countries that demand for financial support e.g for Canada PR uses the official rate to calculate the PoF. |

Helpout12345: Yes. Affidavit of support is not required for NIW. But there are things required to serve same purpose as the Affidavit of support in case of NIW.
The purpose of Affidavit of Support is for US government to ascertain than the immigrants will not become public charge after getting the immigration benefits. In other words, that the immigrants will not end up collecting public poverty alleviating benefits.
So for NIW applicants going through consular processing, the public charge requirements are tested at embassy stage. The primary NIW applicant must convince the VO at the embassy that he or she has a job offer waiting, or has a high prospect of landing a job as early as possible when they arrive in the US. If the primary applicant has no job offer waiting, the following are tips to use to convince the VO that they will not become public charge
1. Present your letter of intent submitted with your I140 from the first stage. But you must have written your letter of intent to serve this purpose as well when you were preparing it at USCIS stage. In the letter of intent, you must state your intention is to work in the field you have demonstrated extra ordinary abilities in the past and that you are still demonstrating those abilities at the moment.
2. Before your embassy interview, go into indeed.com and other job boards to apply for as many jobs as possible. Have communication and interviews with as many US employers as possible. Print those communication and interviews and take them to your visa interview. If you can get interviews with prospective employers in your field while outside the US, most likely you will land a job very soon when you arrive.
3. If you have enough savings, show evidence of it against the US poverty guidelines based on the number of people in your family. Many thanks to you for addressing this affidavit of support part because it has been an area of concern to me. I like to know for like a family of 3, which the expected financial support according the 125pct is around $29k. Can I present savings of $20k in USD and the remaining $9k in naira equivalence of official rate? Looking forward to your reply. Thanks |
