Sports / Cameroon Secures Friendlies With Argentina & Portugal - What Is Our NFF Doing? by adejonny: 2:03am On Jan 04, 2014
Who is the Super Eagles playing oooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!!

Cameroon to play Argentina & Portugal in World Cup warm-ups
Cameroon have reached agreements to play Portugal and Argentina in friendlies ahead of the World Cup.

All three teams will compete at the tournament in Brazil, which takes place from 12 June to 13 July.

Cameroon will meet Portugal on 5 March and on 6 June they will face Argentina, who boast three-time world player of the year Lionel Messi.

The Indomitable Lions will also play Germany on 1 June , as they aim for the best preparation possible.

Volker Finke's side have a difficult task to make an impact in the World Cup, having been drawn in Group A with Brazil, Mexico and Croatia.

Portugal and Argentina, who are placed fifth and third respectively in the latest Fifa rankings, will provide 50th-placed Cameroon with top quality opposition before the tournament.

And for the European and South American giants, Cameroon will give them a taste of what it will be like to face African opponents in Brazil as both have been drawn against teams from the continent.

Portugal are in Group G alongside Germany, United States and Ghana, while Argentina will meet Iran, Bosnia and reigning African champions Nigeria in Group F.
Education / Re: Uganda Varsity Requests For Nigerian Lecturers by adejonny: 3:26pm On Nov 04, 2013
Nigerians are always so negative about Nigeria. While there are half baked Nigeria graduates and lecturers; there are excellent world class graduates and lecturers as well. Go to any University in UK, you will find world class lecturers of Nigerian origin at the top of their careers (HODs, Deans, professors, Directors etc). These people mainly schooled in Nigeria for first degree, The same thing in other EU countries, US and Asia. Why are these Nigerian doing the right thing abroad? There are rules and regulation that govern their professional practice and severe consequences for breaking them.

My British friend who went to Coventry said the best tutor he has ever seen is a Nigerian. The rot in our educational systems is the result of poor funding, lack of strict quality assurance framework, high student to lecturer ratio, lack of implementation of rules and regulation and poor consequence management.

If Nigerians are flying the flag high in UK and US why not Uganda. All the Uganda Government need to do is ensure adequate regulation and strict quality assurance system.

In the first place, you can't take ethiopia for granted. They are steadily improving.

A bad result as a result of carelessness in the first match of the tie is enough to cook us.

Secondly, I hope CAF is listening, Egypt Vs Ghana?? angry sad undecided cry

This kind of tie is not good for African Football, which is still looking for respect!

The strongest Nations in African Football, (not flukes) should go to the world cup, so that Africa can be well represented!!

Not CAFs fault. Egypt was not in the top 5 in Fifa ranking so was not ceeded.

I do not agree with a direct knockout system to produce African Qualifiers for WC.

•Ivory Coast v Senegal
•Ethiopia v Nigeria
•Tunisia v Cameroon
•Ghana v Egypt
•Burkina Faso v Algeria

Wahala for Ghana. I would have love them to be in the World Cup but beating Egypt will be a big challenge.

Ivory Coast should be through except Senegal re-enact their 1998 performance in France
Cameron will go through (referee will want to please oga at the top of CAF)
Burkina Faso will be in their first world cup
Nigeria got the easy one (it will be tough in the first leg in Ethiopia) but should break the deadlock towards the end of the second half. Easy rid in Calabar for the return leg.

Nigeria and Ivory coast will reach the Quarter finals in Brazil.

Where did you get your data from. With current recoverable reserve of over 38 billion barrel and production rate at 2.5 million barell per day, do the maths.

With inproving technology on enhanced oil recovery and more E&P activities thi reserved is projected to increases to around 40 billion barrel by 2030. Besides We have a large gas reserve so oil and gas future in Nigeria is many decades to come. Dont forget the heavy crrude deposits in Ondo basins. Also the demand for oil will continue to outweigh supply with the emerging superpowers like CHina and India.

Notwithstanding the government should start planning now for a future without oil (in 60 - 100yrs time)

THis should concern or worry everyone if it is true. SHe has become a role model many young girls look up to in Nigeria and beyond. For her to make thesame mistake a second time is bad for the young ones looking up to her. Two children out of wedlock is not good for her CV. She is too good to behave this way if the rumour has substance.

Igbinedion, I will understand. But UNIBEN that is a joke. UBTH ranks among the best teaching hospitals in Nigeria and beyond with nationaly recognised consultants in every medical discipline (Only LUTH, UNTH and UCH are as good) . If is is for over admitting then that is understandable as the school is usual super over-subscribed,
Education / Re: Uniben, Igbinedion Medical Schools Lose Accreditation by adejonny: 8:38pm On Dec 07, 2010
I wonder why people are surprised, UNIBEN has always been about past glory as far as I am concerned. Only recently have they changed the silly way in which their GPA was calculated which was 5%, 10%, 15% ,20%, 50% for 1st,2nd,3rd,4th and 5th years respectively so you can play all you want in school and sit up in your 400 and 500 level and still come out with a very good 2-1. NUC constantly hounded them to change it and they finally gave in starting from their last admission.

I advice those going for medicine, head to calabar or port harcourt their programs are way better (according to naija standards oh)

What is wrong with that? in the UK 1st year result is not used for computing grade just 2nd and 3rd year.

Very impressed with Osaze's performancs in EPL so far. HE should be in Spurs or Arsenal next season. Siasia should make him the new Super Eagle's Captain. Obinna Has also been fantastic although not very lucky with goals. He is potentially a great player and has come to stay in EPL.

Yakubu is finished and should retire now. Anichebe (unluky with injuries) should up his game, he is not improving as expected.

Victor Moses and Nedum Onouha should better make up their mind to play for naija (learn from Ameobi, Carton Cole and Agbolanhor) before Siasia shut the door on them.

Mikel, I am indifferent . Althoug playing the role the coach wants him to play, I am dissapointed that he never goes forward to make attempt on goal like Essien. He needs to leave Chelsea now and go were he can play as a creative midfielder. Haba even central defenders score 2-5 goals in a season.

Ehmmmmmmmmmmmm, Have I left out any naija (sorry Dora)  talent in the EPL?

Kumuyi and his new bride

Like a thief in the night, the news crept in on us. Holiness preacher and General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi, had got married again, 18 months after his wife of 29 years, Abiodun, passed away. The deed was done at a quiet ceremony in London, the United Kingdom.

The news elicited different kinds of emotions in different people. Most members of the Deeper Life Church, we are told, welcomed it with rapturous joy. At 69 (the man’s age had erroneously been given as 71 by the newspaper that first published the report) the G. S (as he’s fondly called) sure deserves a companion, a helpmeet and confidant. Yes, she may not replace the late Abiodun whose shoes seem too large to step into, but at least she would fill a vacuum in the man’s life and home.

But then, the rumour mill also went abuzz. And I read all sorts of things on the Internet, some silly, others laughable. Kumuyi had married a divorcee. No, she was a widow. No, no, she was Abiodun’s closest friend. And why must the preacher marry his late wife’s friend. Why must he even marry again? Can’t he hold his body, and why must he marry just 18 months after the passage of his wife? It means he must have been eyeing the woman, even while Abiodun was here. Blah, blah, and more blahs. A lot of the comments bordered on what the Good Book calls “speaking evil of dignities.”

To douse speculations and clear the air, the secretary of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor L. P. Nnadozie, had to issue a press statement. Yes, on October 13, 2010, in London, Kumuyi had married Ms Esther Folashade Aduke Blaize, 65. She was the Administrator of the church in London, had never been married before, and had committed her life to the full service of the Lord. Guests were entertained after the event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, London. A video recorded of the wedding was later shown to members of the church round the country.

First, to the cynics and sceptics. Why can’t Kumuyi marry again, if he chooses to? What law of God, or of man, has he broken? How many men can truly operate maximally without their wives, even at prime age, not to talk of at 69? He needs to go on a preaching trip, as Kumuyi has been doing so much lately, and he is the one to pack the bag himself. Oh, where are the socks, the ties, the shirts, toothbrush, tooth paste? Where is the second leg of this shoe, where is the belt?

The man would be in such jumble from packing, and half the message would have disappeared from his mind by the time he gets onto the altar. Or he allows devout and devoted women in the church to assist with all the chores, and the rumour mills are agog again. What was pastor doing in the room with that woman who was helping him to pack? Why must she be the one to cook his meals all the time, now she even washes his clothes? Is she not spending too much time with our pastor? And the innocent man is either exposed to risks or baseless suspicions. Getting a new wife seemed the best bet.

Oh, he married his late wife’s best friend. So, he should have married her enemy? At 69, he should be playing the Romeo, wooing young damsels, and attending intending couples class, when the field is already white, waiting for harvest?

Can’t he hold his body? Why must he marry just 18 months after Abiodun died? It is better to marry than to burn with passion, says the Good Book. But do you think a man burning with passion will go for a 65-year-old? Would you? While not being a member of Deeper Life Church, I sincerely believe conjugal passion must have been one of the least considerations in this union. If that was the reason, there were ladies in their 30s or 40s, who would gladly say ‘I do.’ And those who think Kumuyi could not ‘hold his body’ do not seem to know this fervent, almost ascetic preacher, who burst on the gospel scene in 1973 with Bible study meetings organised at his University of Lagos home, where he was a lecturer.

Those who started with Kumuyi said the man never really intended to marry. And he said as much to his hearers. When he eventually married Abiodun in 1980, at a time he was already knocking hard at 40 (he was 39, actually) he had to do a lot of explaining to his flock. He articulated it this way in the book Deeper Life, written by Alan Isaacson:

“On the issue of marriage, all the things said about us were true. I read much of John Wesley who had a bad marital life. I also read Charles Finney, and a lot of others. So I would teach that marriage was acceptable, but that they would have difficulties, and it would limit their time. We wanted the evangelism to go on, and Jesus could return at any time. But even before I get married, we were piping down, because I saw that more adults were coming to the Bible study… things changed over the years, because of increasing maturity. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, but now that I am an adult…”

The press statement by the church secretary said members and leaders were the ones who led a delegation to Kumuyi, and prevailed on him to marry again. It was a good move, but I believe the final decision still rested with the preacher. And he took it. Those saying and writing those funny things, particularly on the Internet, do not seem to realise that the man has his right, even though he preaches self-abnegation with a passion.

To marry again or not was his decision to take, and he has taken it. Finito. No one is hurt, no law is broken, whether human or divine.
Madam Aduke Blaize has blazed into Kumuyi’s life at 65. I’m sure she never in her wildest dreams gave marriage a thought again. As a teenager, yes. In her 20s, 30s, even up till her 40s. But at 65? “At seventeen years many their fortunes seek, but at fourscore it is too late a week” (Shakespeare). The lesson is that with God, it is never over till it’s over. At 65, Aduke is now a married woman. Can you beat that?

Another lesson. When we want something so passionately, and God does not seem to be moving at the pace we desire, we chart or own course, help God to do it by our own means, or we go completely away from Him. Not Aduke. Like Elizabeth and Zechariah of old, though without their own biological child, they continued serving the Lord faithfully, till God gave them a baby who became the forerunner of Jesus Christ. Even when what you desire seems to tarry, wait for it. (Am I sounding like a preacher? Please bear with me).

I may not need to say this to the new bride, who is really quite mature spiritually and physically. But let me say it all the same. Don’t struggle with Abiodun Kumuyi’s shadows. She was a larger than life woman. She finished her course, and has gone to her reward. Her footprints will always be there, so don’t try to obliterate them, or compete unnecessarily. Former Information Minister, Sir (Chief) Alex Akinyele adored Yvonne, his first wife. In fact, he called her a god, whom he worshipped. Yvonne died, and Akinyele married the Indian, Lady Maria. And the latter began to compete with Yvonne’s memory. It was one of the reasons the marriage did not work. I know Madam Aduke would know better than behave like Lady Maria.

A lesson the Deeper Life Bible Church must learn from all this. In information management, it is better to be proactive than to be reactive. All the rumours and petty gossips would have been avoided, if a press statement had been issued before the wedding, introducing the bride to the public. They wouldn’t then have to do any damage control as we’ve seen. Walk the old path by all means (it’s safe) but open up a bit, as this is the 21st century.

I know it’s past the manner of women for the new bride. But it was also same for Sarah, who had Isaac at 90. Jerry and John, Kumuyi’s sons by Abiodun, would really not mind a biological sister. Miracles still happen, or don’t you think? We won’t complain if God does it again.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Osaze Odewingie: The Man Of The Match by adejonny: 7:00pm On Aug 21, 2010
Debutant Peter Odemwingie scored a late winner as West Brom secured a deserved win over unadventurous Sunderland.

The Uzbekistan-born striker   (if he commited crime, it would have read the Nigerian striker)missed an earlier chance when clean through but made no mistake with nine minutes left as he slotted in James Morrison's pass.

The Black Cats rarely threatened with Kieran Richardson and Nedum Onuoha providing some rare spark late on.

Chris Brunt was outstanding in the middle for the Baggies and crashed a shot against the crossbar near the end.

Showing no signs of a hangover from last week's 6-0 drubbing by Chelsea, the hosts, bar a wobbly five minutes after the hour, looked full of verve and creativity with Brunt in particular pulling the strings from the middle and out wide.

Di Matteo happy to get three points
And it was the Northern Irish midfielder who ripped open the visitors' defence early on to set up new team-mate Odemwingie for a glorious chance to open the scoring.

However, just 24 hours since moving from Lokomotiv Moscow and securing international clearance on Friday night, the forward, who plays for Nigeria, looked a little jittery and hooked his weak shot wide of Scott Carson's right post.

With boss Steve Bruce sticking with front men Darren Bent and Fraizer Campbell on the back of last week's two-goal surrender to Birmingham, Sunderland looked shockingly bereft of attacking ideas and were restricted to two tame free-kicks in the first period.

Scotland's fit-again Morrison was another proving a handful for Bruce's new look defence as he blazed wide from the edge of the box before crossing for Brunt, who could only head off target.

West Brom, eyeing just a third win in 18 Premier League matches, continued to dominate proceedings and came within a few inches of a spectacular opener before the break.

Defender Marek Cech out-sprinted the Black Cats' defence and whipped the ball in for the unmarked Brunt to produce a stunning overhead kick but had to watch it fly narrowly over the bar.

The momentum remained in West Brom's favour in the second half as Sunderland's Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was called into action yet again as he smothered a Brunt header.

Bruce waited just past the hour to introduce new faces, introducing Danny Welbeck and Boudewijn Zenden, and for a few minutes, the visitors briefly came alive.

But keeper Carson was up to the test as he tipped over Richardson's 25-yard shot and then comfortably held on to a header from on-loan defender Onuoha.

Sunderland "not good enough" - Bruce
As Sunderland ran out of ideas and seemingly unhappy to work harder for three points, they suffered a sucker-punch as Odemwingie picked up Morrison's cute through-ball to cap a lively first game in West Brom's colours with a well-taken goal.

There was even time for Brunt to get within a whisker of a deserved goal as he blasted against the bar.

A job well done for Roberto Di Matteo's team but sterner tests await with trips to Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United coming up.

Those of you supporting Jonathan have no clue of the implications of this.

This does not only affect Super Eagles. With FIFA ban, the U17 team, U21  will miss the junior world cup of 2011 and 2013 as well as the African competitions. U23 will miss the Olympics  in London 2012. The Falconets and Super Falcons will also miss out of the African and world cup competitions. Nigerian premier clubs cannot partake in the CAF Championship for 2 years , Nigerian referee cannot officiate in any competition in Africa or the world etc.

THe Super Eagles will also miss the Nations cup for 2012 and 2013

Has any one counted this cost?  We want to kill the talents we have.

I was disappointed with the performance of the Super Eagles in SA. But for the President to withdraw all national team from FIFA competition is the biggest political mistake he will make.

He has not counted the cost of the decision he is making. After a good U17 outing this is the time for them to build on their performance as they graduate to U21. the last U21 have some quality players that can do the country proud in London Olympics. You pull out for 2years and expect another 2yrs ban from FIFA and you are back to square one.

We cannot watch and see Jonathan bury alive our already dying football

We must resist this.
