Tunde Odesola, Osogbo

A 30-year-old female tenant, Olamide Alonge, has been remanded in prison custody by an Osogbo Magistrate's Court for allegedly stabbing her landlady, Mrs. Kehinde Awopetu, to death.

The charge sheet read in court on Tuesday alleged that Alonge stabbed Awopetu to death on July 10, 2011 at 34, Oke-Ola area of Isokun in Ilesa at 10:30am.

The offence, according to the charge sheet, is punishable under Section 308, Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2003.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Joshua Oladoye, appeared on behalf of the state while the suspect had no lawyer.

A police source disclosed to our correspondent after the court hearing that the landlady went to Alonge's apartment to effect her ejection when a scuffle broke out, resulting in the landlady's death.

The magistrate ordered Alonge to be remanded in Ilesa prison till August 19, 2011 when the case would come up in court.

In a related incident, the same court has remanded a 35-year-old farmer, Azeez Adeyemi, in prison custody over an allegation that he caused the death of an 80-year-old woman, Limota Jimoh.

The charge sheet read in court, on Tuesday, alleged that the suspect committed the offence on July 5, 2011 at Olo Farm in Ila-Orangun, Osun State.

According to the one-count charge, the suspect allegedly caused the death of the deceased by inflicting her with head injury, leading to her death.

The charge sheet said the victim died from the injury five days later.

Oladoye represented the state but the suspect had no legal representation when the case came up.

Ijiyode ordered Adeyemi to be remanded in Ilesa prison.

No Yoruba has been killed or maimed in the East
But 100s of Igbos have been felled by Yoruba touts and area boys while 1000000s of Igbos have been liquidated in the North
SE is the most peaceful place for non-indigenes
On a good day, Igbos will rather kill themselves than touching a non-indigene

A 1/6 win is not something god cheesy Tinubu ordinarily will take. Can he please tell us the undercurrents that went on?

Jonathan won April election - Tinubu

Agency Reporter

A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Monday said President Goodluck Jonathan won the April presidential election.

BOLA AHMED TINUBU

Tinubu, who is also the National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, however, claimed that some of the results attributed to Jonathan in some parts of the country were exaggerated.

"I believe Jonathan won the election but that the returns attributed to him in some parts of the country obviously appeared exaggerated," he said in a paper he presented at the Chatham House, London.

In the paper entitled, 'Democracy and the Rebirth of Opposition in Nigeria,' the former governor added that "the inflated tally (in favour of the President) detracted from what would have been a well-deserved victory.''

He noted that due to the unique circumstances of Jonathan's rise to power, the public saw him as a distinctive figure.

The ACN leader warned that celebrating the election as free and fair might lead to the Independent National Electoral Commission beating its chest, thereby, short-circuiting the process of fundamental electoral reform.

Tinubu, who also took a swipe at the opposition parties, said they did not run coordinated campaigns with a unifying message.

He said the campaigns were not strong enough to effectively match the machinery of the Peoples Democratic Party which emerged victorious at the elections.

The former governor said, "The opposition believed that public disenchantment with the ruling party, the PDP, was enough to get rid of them at the polls.

"In retrospect, we made an important strategic mistake that continued to play out and weaken us throughout the campaigns.''

Tinubu also admitted that major opposition parties began their serious work too late.

"In the end, the opposition parties danced with each other but did not embrace; our constant dancing however, confused the public and partially doused some of the public's enthusiasm,'' he stressed.

He attributed the security challenges in the country, especially the menace of Boko Haram, to high level of poverty, economic and social injustice, and ignorance.

Tinubu noted that the situation was made worse by the political machinations of a group of people dissatisfied with the outcome of the general elections.

He, however, expressed his "full sympathy and support''for the President in finding solution to the disturbing phenomenon.

Tinubu said Jonathan must succeed in his resolve to tackle the menace, adding that the lingering security challenge could damage the country and the West African region.

Why not post a current flight schedule of Enugu airport? Why revel and bask in the oldies?
For a start, you can also show us same photo for Ibadan, Akure, Abeokuta, Ekiti and Osun airports. That is, if people in those places have ever seen an airplane before, let alone an airport. Ode!!

@alj_harem, ekt_bear, Abu-Maryam: Oh my.  That's not true.  I've always been against tribalism, but I felt that the only way to kill it was by encouraging people to speak freely so the more intelligent and enlightened members will convince the bigots to embrace a more constructive worldview.

I have always directed the mods to move all threads advocating the division of Nigeria and violence against any tribe to the ethnic/tribal issues board.  But other regular discussions, I left alone because I felt freedom of speech and open discourse were the best ways to change people's minds.

When I post a topic on the home page, it doesn't mean I support whatever the OP suggested.  It just means I think the topic merits further discussion, that's all. You people talk about "posting topics based on traffic" as if it's a profit-oriented thing, but it's also about giving people what they want.
It is saner deleting any tribalistic thread than moving them to a so-called tribalism section that is still open to the whole world to see. I raised this topic under one of my previous usernames that is now banned and that thread itself was moved to the tribalism section. You can only convince that you are not a tribalist by closing the tribalism section. That way, tribalistic threads elsewhere will have no place to go than to the dustbin (permanent deletion). Nairaland has succeeded in making cyber tribalists out of many of us.

The fact that there is a tribalism section makes whoever owns and manages nairaland the most fanatical tribalist around here.

Islamic banking may be a good idea as practiced in sane countries
Nevertheless, Nigeria and its people, especially the muslims up north, are not the sanest of humans
So, the Nigeria version of islamic banking will most certainly be a different type than practiced in other climes
How will Buhari winning have modified the islamic banking?

Keep in mind Boko Haram (BH), the Islamic Banking (IB) saga, and the Fulani rampage all over the North and parts of the South
How would Nigeria have looked like now and in the near future under Buhari?

Wow this dude!! Where tha hell you been at?

I don't think Nigeria can survive another dictator. The people will rather just go separate ways.

This man is honestly bitter. He said "Nigerians will pay the consequences for failing to elect a good leader" , How was he so sure Buhari is the good leader?

Same man that jailed Fela (who has nothing to do with Nigerian money) during his corruption sweep, (Read in Fela's memoir)

Buhari made insensitive utterances that rather further divided the nation during the and before the 2011 elections!!!

Ive been around. I'm just tired of the failure called Nigeria. Such hope, great failure; thanks mostly to those greedy clowns East of the Niger River. Hey, before u castigate me, ask urself: "Who massively rigged in the failure Nigeria currently has as President??"

Its inevitable that a revolution will take place in Nigeria in the future, the real question is:"WHEN?!"

I wish I could regale you with personal tales. . . . . But, if you had an idea how much is being siphoned outta that country daily u'd be just as upset as the good preacher. But, I aint complaining tho, hence my seeming absence on this site.

Thank you Nigeria for ensuring my child (and my future generations) never suffer ever, ever, ever.
