thats because it seems the south east thinks it has the power to solve everything but has no solutions it can't solve its own internal issue like ritualism, baby factories and that types of things, it was the ibo elders running their mouths on the weekend now it is your governors, maybe you got a big head because the jtf head in the region is from your tribe and you think the ibo holds the key to this problem, thats what you think

i have no problem if the south east has a good solution, but it does not, thats the reality
And there are no ritualists in the North?

I do not see how that concerns the SE leaders. They should instead get all Igbos out of the  rough areas of the North and return all northerners in the SE who are from such rough areas in the North back

Ekiti sacks 5,000 council workers over alleged certificate forgery

EKITI State government has dismissed 5,000 local council workers for age falsification and declaration of false credentials.

Workers in all the 16 councils from various cadres were affected by the action of the state. Their names were placed on the notice boards in the council’s secretariats last Friday to surrender all public property in their care to the relevant authorities and stop parading themselves as officials of the councils.

It was learnt that the sacked workers were accused by the state government of alleged falsification of their age, academic certificates, among others.

In an interview in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Aderemi Ajayi, said the names of the affected workers had been removed from the July salary vouchers of their councils.

Ajayi explained that the dismissed workers were said to have gained employment using fake certificates and falsified birth certificates.

He explained that the lists of the affected personnel were compiled by a verification committee set up by Governor Kayode Fayemi to look into the activities of the councils in the state.

“Those affected gained employment into the local government service through fake certificates and those that ought to have retired but refused to do so by continually falsifying their ages.

“The lists of the sacked workers were compiled by a committee set up by the state government and the committee has directed all the local councils in the state to post the names of the affected workers on their respective notice boards as from Friday July 15.

“Their names had been removed from this month’s salary vouchers. They are to complain to the committee if they even have any complaints.

“Although I cannot tell you the exact figure of the affected workers, I can tell you the sack cuts across all the 16 local councils in the state”, Ajayi stated.

One of the affected council officials described the sack as “anti-people and anti-democratic” action by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)-led government in the state.

“The allegations of fake academic certificates and falsification of ages are not true as they are part of efforts by the government to justify the illegal and brazen action”.

The governor had on Monday, July 11, this year, ordered the sack of 27 directors of administration and finance of local councils over alleged failure of promotion examinations.

Ekiti: LG Chiefs Sacked After Failing Tests

Ekiti State government has relieved some Directors of Administration and Directors of Finance in the local government system of the state who recently failed a series of examinations and interviews of their jobs.

However, the government assured them of receiving their terminal benefits.

Those who are successful have been elevated to the newly created posts of Administrative Secretaries.

The examinations and interviews were conducted for councils’ Directors of Administration and Finance who are on Grade Level 15 to 16.

A statement, on Thursday by the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Chief Aderemi Ajayi, said the reform being carried out in the local government service was to entrench good governance, transparency and accountability.

Ajayi said the result had since been released and the successful officers were being recalled from leave and were directed to report at the commission’s office for posting instructions.

“The successful directors have been elevated to the newly created posts of Administrative Secretaries (Consolidated) or GL 17 as the case may be. This is designed to remove stagnation in local government service.

“The Directors of Administration and Directors of Finance who were not successful in the selection process have been disengaged from the service.

“However, they will all receive their terminal benefits. The vacuum created by this exercise will be filled by the successful Administrative Officers and Accountants in a similar selection process conducted in June 2011,” Ajayi said.

Ex Gov. Daniel’s Loyalist Battles For Life

A stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, Mr. Tajudeen Odogun, is battling for life, a year after he was severely burnt by party members opposed to former governor of the State, Gbenga Daniel.

P.M.NEWS learnt that Odogun, who has been confined to a small room in Songo Ota for over a year, was set ablaze on 6 April 2010 as factions emerged within the PDP and crisis deepened between Daniel and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

It was gathered that the former PDP auditor at Ota Ward2 was attending a party organised by Mr. Olawale Hassan, a PDP aspirant to the House of the Representatives loyal to Daniel when he was allegedly abducted by members belonging to Obasanjo’s faction and set ablaze.

Odogun was severely burnt and left unconscious and was revived at a private hospital, it was learnt.

Some suspects were arrested by the police and released soon after.

Those arrested included Seyi and Rafiu Ogunji, while Semiu Adebayo, the main suspect has remained on the run, it was learnt.

Odogun told our correspondent in Ota that while Daniel and some politicians paid for his bills immediately after the incident, he has since been abandoned to his fate.

“I am dying in this room,” he said at the house of Hon. Ola Bello where he has been confined for more than a year.

“My wife left me after the incident. My three children have been abandoned since I was burnt. My entire body is paralysed. I cannot raised my right hand. I feel like the end may come any day. I now look like a ghost.

“Those who set me ablaze were opposed to Daniel and anybody that stood by him. Unfortunately none of us won the election. We have been swept out of power but I am left to remain like this for life. For nothing.

“I don’t have N2 million they are asking me for skin grafitation. I am dying for nothing. I am dying for dirty politics. I need help,” he lamented.

Politics › Re: The Governors Of SE Should Declare "no-go Area Policy" For Fulani Herdsmen by adejoro75: 9:33pm On Jul 15, 2011
Part of the reason why you do not hear so many cattle rearer-farmer conflicts in the far North is because many of the farms are mechanized. Mechanization implies that the farms are fenced and secured against not just cattle encroachment, but also farm thieves. Down south, at least in the East and South South, farm holdings are fragmented and so mechanization and attendant security measures are less of an option. Thus, the Fulani cattle rearers and their animals have no physical barriers preventing them from grazing on crops. Keep in mind that the few mechanized farms in the East are excluded from grazing because they are secured.

There is no way Fulani cattle can have any official grazing ground in the East because land is a family matter and  a very serious issue. Will the govt buy off/confiscate family land and convert them to grazing ground? In any case, it is unthinkable that Igbo farm land can be taken and given to fulani for cattle grazing.

If the fulanis attack farmers who complain of their grazed farms, they could also be attacked. It happened before in Abia State (mid 90s) when the Fulani was routed and their cattle killed and consumed by locals. In fact, there is  a silent operation going on now in different parts of Igboland. Those fulani who reportedly violated women in Umuapu (along Port Harcourt-Owerri Road) have the cover of their brother-soldiers at the nearby Obinze Barracks. But those of them who have ventured into the local markets-as they do to sell their fura- will not be able to tell the story-something has happened. I will refrain from talking more about this  for now.

The fulani should modernize their activities. They must not sacrifice people's farming activity for their own grazing needs. No livelihood is superior than the other. The desert in the North can be turned into green grazing ground. What are all the dams built in the North used for?

Local firm, Addax, strikes oil in Imo
Nigeria's oil and gas industry has recorded another landmark, with Addax Petroleum announcing an onshore oil discovery from the Njaba 2 well (formally Okaka) currently drilling in the eastern part of the OML124 license area of Imo State. Addax Petroleum has a 100 per cent working interest under a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) covering the Oil Mining License 124 (OML124) area, whereby the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is the concessionaire. The new discovery may likely become one its largest fields in Nigeria. Addax currently produces approximately 6000 barrels per day from the Ossu and Izombe fields in OML124, which is located within Imo State. President and Chief Executive Officer of Addax, Mr. Jean Claude Gandur said, "I am extremely proud to report an excellent start in 2009 with this successful exploration result in Nigeria as it is a leading discovery that has the potential to be one of our largest fields in Nigeria. The Njaba discovery is the first exploration well to be drilled in OML124 since the mid-80's and these results will increase the production potential of the license area considerably, as well as significantly upgrade the remaining undrilled prospects."http://www.scandoil.com/moxie-bm2/news/addax-petroleum-hits-new-discovery-in-nigeria.shtml

You must include Zik on your list of those that lacked foresighted of how Nigeria will turn out 50 years after.

Ojukwu is blameless in that regard
He tried his best to liberate his people from the shackles of one Nigeria
For that, even Zik hated him and worked against him.

he wanted to break away from nigeria because he was simply greedy.  gowon initiated a move to replace the 4 legislatures of nigeria with 12 states. 3 of them in the east. the provision was meant to break up the northern region, undermining the possibility of continued northern domination but ojukwu greedily feared that gowon desired to divide the igbo into new smaller states, and this deprive the igbos of their control over the oil fields and access to the sea.

situation deteriorated, ojukwu's attempt at secession produced biafra. . . .gowon retaliated by declaring a state of emergency. gowon's federal military govt of nigeria declared war on biafra. the civil war lasted 3 yrs and left behind 3 million dead and established biafra as a by word for famine and mass destruction. appeals after appeals were made by oau to stop the war. ojukwu insisted it was a fight to the finish only for him to flee the country sought refuge in ivory coast.

ojukwu is a bloody coward!!!!!

you have clearly misunderstood what he said. he didn't regret fighting that particular war. . . . .he had regrets that the nigeria he once fought for has now degenerated into car bomb explosions everyday by the boko harams and mend.
Was Ojukwu more foresighted than the rest people I listed? Clearly yes. Thanks, and the rest of your rants are nothing but rants. The Govt of Eastern Nigeria sat and agreed that Ojukwu should secede. That decision was not a one-man show.

They are giving not a few people heart attack with their inflated news stories
There has been no bombing at the NYSC camp in Borno
I just got off the phone with my relative now in camp there
Security is reportedly tight in the camp, but you never know with these murderous Boko Haram folks
The NYSC head, Tsiga, was there in Borno a few hours ago and assured the campers of redeployment to their desired states.

You can call him a coward (your prerogative), but he was foresighted in wanting to break away from Nigeria
The same (foresightedness) cannot be said about Zik, Awo, Enahoro, Ironsi, Gowon, Obasanjo who at one time or another, under circumstances that benefited them, worked to keep Nigeria one.

Even Akinrinade who was one of the top generals then has since regretted fighting the war to keep Nigeria one.

As long as Awo was the second in command in Nigeria during the Biafra War that was purpotedly fought to keep Nigeria as one, how can anyone try to exonerate him from how Nigeria turned out to be today?

Zik, Awo, Enahoro, Ironsi, Gowon, Obasanjo etc are to  blame for what we have today
Ojukwu is 100% blameless on this. He is the only foresighted one among the players.
