percipi1: The most respected Nigerian alive is Wole Soyinka. He is presently our only Nobel laureate. Chinua Achebe would have shared the same status if he had not stirred controversy by accusing Awolowo of genocide without admitting his own contribution to the starvation of poor and innocent Igbos used as cannon folders to obtain international sympathy.
Igbos respect Achebe, Yorubas respect Soyinka. There it ends.

PalmTree: Do you seriously think that your analogy relates to my previous post? This same Soyinka started the FRSC (special marshal)to assist the main corps, however due to certain circumstances he is no longer involved. Now if the present members undermine the intergrity of the corps, in your own candid opinion, is it Soyinka's fault?
And he was fired from FRSC for fraud.

PalmTree: Young man, You have been misinformed! and its so sad cry cry. What you call a cult group was created solely to promote human right activism. Agreed, over the years it has turned into an avenue through which hoodlums and thugs propagate vices, and this happened long after soyinka graduated. Now you tell me, how is this soyinka's fault? Comprende?
Old man, you are ignorant. The first armed robber in Nigeria did so out of hunger. Then others came who were not poor but wanted other people's property out of greed. They learned from the first robber. Got the analogy?

1. Not all scientific findings are published before the patent is approved, if applied for. In fact, if you are applying for a patent, you typically do not publish your work until patent is granted. That way, others do not duplicate the result and file their own patent. Remember it is who files first that matters.

2. Not all studies are deposited in PubMed. Or, deposition is not always timely. Iwu's alleged finding was approved on Dec 31 2012, and today is only January 5, 2013. If they have published it (which I doubt), it takes several weeks to appear on pubmed. Hunters burn down school in Saki

HELL was let loose in Saki West Local Government Area of Oyo State ,on Wednesday, as persons from a neighbouring community, allegedly led a team of able-bodied men to completely raze a primary school being built on a disputed area.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the team were said to have got to the school around 4.00 p.m. when the pupils had left for their various homes and burnt the school and evacuated the items of furniture.

It will be recalled that there was a clash between Saki and Ogboro communities during the administration of Senator Rashidi Ladoja when it was resolved that status quo be maintained on the disputed farmland.

The Okere of Saki, Oba (Alhaji) KelaniOlatoyeseOlarinre II, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune in a telephone interview, confirmed the incident, adding that those living around the school and the teachers were threatened in the dead of the night.

“Not only did they raze the school, they also took all the furniture in the school.

“The headmaster of the school came and made a report of the incident to me and he also informed me that he had reported to the police. The chairmen of Saki East and West councils and the police have visited the burnt school and they are also doing their investigation.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state Command, DSP AyodeleLanade, who confirmed the incident, said the two caretaker chairmen of the councils met on Thursday and resolved that status quo be maintained pending when the issue would be resolved.

Lanade added that the immediate past administration in the state had raised a committee on the matter, adding that the recommendation of the committee had not being effected

Celebrities › Why Tonto Likes Edo Men by adejoro75(op):
Tonto Dike recently announced that she cannot marry an Igbo man because Igbo men poke-nose a lot into their women's affairs and want to know every stuff about them, whereas Edo men let their women be and to do their own thing. This is likely very true about Edo men. From my experience, Edo people, men and women alike, are the most liberal of Nigerians. I will leave you to define liberal in your own terms.

Edo men permit their women to p/r/o/s/t/i/t/u/t/e at home and abroad, and the women make money and build houses back in Edo state, and are celebrated and get married to by men who know how they made their money. Many houses in Edo State are owned by women
No Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani man will consciously allow their daughter/wife sell her body to the highest bidder, or get married to a p/r/o/s/t/i/t/u/t/e knowingly. This is not to say Igbo/Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani girls do not p/r/o/s/t/i/t/u/t/e their bodies. But they do so not to the approval of their menfolks.

Tonto Dike is from Ikwerre, Rivers State. I am not sure whether she accepts she is Igbo, as some Ikwerre people do not accept their Igboness. From all available evidence, Tonto Dike is as good as a p/r/o/s/t/i/t/u/t/e; hence her love for Edo men.

A pastor, Alasco Sobowale, has been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl (name withheld) in Epe, Lagos State. The pastor was said to have allegedly had carnal knowledge of the girl at their home located at 10, Togodo Street, Temu Town.

The victim's aunt, Mrs. Ngozi Anjorin, told PUNCH Metro that the incident occurred on December 15, 2012.

Anjorin said the victim only spoke Igbo Language and had recently arrived Lagos from Imo State.

She said Sobowale, who also speaks Igbo, allegedly lured her niece to the toilet around 9pm and had sex with her.

She said, "My niece was sent to Lagos about two weeks before the incident so I could send her to school because she doesn't speak English Language. She only speaks Igbo and only I and the pastor, who is our neighbour, speak Igbo.

"On that particular night, my children were in the room watching television but I couldn't find my niece. I kept on shouting her name but I got no answer. I then proceeded to the toilet which is detached from the building. I knocked on the door of the toilet and the pastor immediately ran out and I saw her inside the toilet.

"When I inquired of her what she was doing inside the toilet with the pastor, she said he lured her into the toilet and covered her mouth with his palm so she wouldn't scream. She said the pastor brought out his penis and forced it into her anus. She said he also put his penis in her vagina and when she discharged a particular fluid, he used a handkerchief to scoop it."

Anjorin said Sobowale, who lives with his wife and children in the same compound, fled after the incident.

Anjorin said two days later, she reported the matter to the Epe Police Division and the policemen began to look for him.

It was learnt that two days later, the police were able to arrest him.

Residents told our correspondent that after Sobowale's arrest, some of his church members accused a six-year-old girl of bewitching the pastor and had her flogged and paraded.

A source, who craved anonymity, said, "Sobowale is not actually the head pastor. His wife is the senior pastor of the church known as Okiki Imole. A few days after the incident, a six-year-old girl was branded a witch and accused of manipulating the pastor to commit the dastardly act.

"The poor girl was beaten up and paraded round the town. They said when the pastor was conducting deliverance for her; her spirit took over his body."

Anjorin said the alleged rape victim was rushed down to Epe General Hospital where tests were conducted on her.

A copy of the doctor's report made available to PUNCH Metro, stated that the victim's "vaginal hymen is no longer intact and bruises were observed in the anal region."

The report further stated that there was sperm residue in the victim's private part and it was concluded that she had been sexually assaulted.

A doctor, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said because Sobowale had not provided his sperm sample, it was impossible to ascertain if it was his own sperm that was found in the victim's private part.

PUNCH metro learnt that Sobowale was released a few days later and charges against him dropped.

Anjorin however protested the development, adding it was not safe for her niece to live in the same compound with Sobowale.

A neighbour, who craved anonymity, said it was the habit of policemen in the area to cover up such crimes.

"Whenever a crime of this nature occurs, the police would ask the suspect to offset the victim's hospital bill and then grant the suspect bail. It is very common in areas like Epe because it is not situated in the metropolis," he said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed that the girl was raped.

Braide said the police had not taken sides, adding that the pastor was released on bail because courts were not in session.

"The pastor is in charge of a white garment church in the area. He will be charged with sodomy. He was released on bail because courts are not sitting but once courts resume, he will be charged," she said.

Police arrest couple over abduction of Rotimi's wife

by Akinwale Aboluwade, Ibadan

Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar

Police in Oyo State said on Thursday they had arrested a Lagos-based couple in connection with the December 10 abduction of Titilayo, wife of a former Military Administrator of old Western State, Brig. Gen Oluwole Rotimi (retd).

Titilayo, according to the police, has since regained her freedom.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ayodele Lanade, confirmed that Ruth and her husband, Mathew Adekiya, had been detained.

It was learnt that Ruth had lived with the abducted woman till she got married to Adekiya in Lagos.

She was said to have travelled to Ibadan on Tuesday to sympathise with the Rotimi family upon hearing that her former guardian had been released after about two weeks.

The lady was said to have been arrested and whisked to the anti-robbery squad while her husband was later arrested in Lagos.

Lanade said, “The suspects are still being investigated. I have been to the Iyaganku Division, and I have confirmed that they were being investigated. If after investigation they are found not to be culpable, they will be released.

“We had said it that irrespective of the fact that the abducted woman had been released, our investigations continue. The Commissioner of Police had said anyone found not connected with the crime would be released after interrogation.”

Ten workers of the abducted woman were initially arrested while a nursing mother among them was granted bail to allow her take care of her baby.

The CP, Mr. Joseph Mbu, while speaking with reporters on Monday, said arrested suspects would be released if not found culpable in the abduction.

Critics of Islamic banking ignorant –Sharia Council
From ISMAIL OMIPIDAN, Kaduna
Monday, July 25, 2011

More Stories on This Section

The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, SCSN, has threatened that Nigerian Muslims were prepared to go to war rather than give up the quest for Islamic banking.
This is even as it  warned Christian clerics in the country to drop their opposition to the idea, saying that Muslims in the country would defend the implementation of the Islamic banking system in the country with the last drop of their blood.

The group’s position was made known in Kaduna yesterday, through its President, Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad, who read the communiqué issued at the end of its meeting held at Arewa House, Kaduna.
He further argued that since interest-free banking was practised in Britain and other Christian dominated countries successfully, Nigerian Muslims would resist any attempt by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to frustrate the implementation of the Islamic banking system in the country.

“We are very happy that with a lot of efforts Jaiz Bank has now become a reality. The company owning Jaiz has assured us that the bank is coming in September and they have assured us that they will be starting with three branches, namely Abuja, Kaduna and Kano. And they will continue to open the branches rapidly, thereafter. We are also aware of the amount of noise and nonsense we hear from the Christian clergy, some of whom are so ignorant that they are not even worth to be called clergymen.

“They think they can blackmail the government, the Central Bank or the Muslim ummah to abandon the project. I want to assure them that nothing can stop the Jaiz Bank from coming into being because it’s being brought in according to the laws of Nigeria. There is nothing illegal about it. If they have a Christian bank that they want to establish, they have the freedom to bring it to the Central Bank and if they can prove their case, a Christian bank will be opened.

“We the Muslims of this country are fed up and tired with the silly vituperation of the CAN. They are a bunch of idiots and they feel they can dictate to the Muslims even how we should live our lives.
“And we are warning the government not to listen to them because there is a limit to the amount of nonsense we can take. We are the majority in this country,
whether the Christians like it or not. We are going to have this bank and there is nothing they can do about it. We have taken a lot of nonsense, we have come to the end and from now it’s Bosom for tat. There are quite a number of rascals in cassocks that have been talking recently; we’ll meet fire for fire this time. Whether it’s an archbishop or whoever he is who talks nonsense, we’ll get people to answer him in the same language. If he talks as a rascal, we’ll reply him as a rascal.
“Jaiz Bank has come to be and there is nothing they can do about it and if we have to go to war on this, we’ll go to war
. Let the bloody fools wearing cassocks stop disturbing our peace. Gentlemen, being peaceful doesn’t mean we are cowards. We warn the idiots in cassocks, tell them to stop disturbing our peace, if they want us to live together in Nigeria. Everybody can go his way, we don’t have to live together. We can’t live under bloody idiots dictating to us how we live our lives even within the laws of the country.

“Whatever they call themselves, whether archbishop, priest or whatever they are, let them stop disturbing our lives. We’ve had enough; let the government warn them because these abuses are enough. If they are rascals and they don’t understand anything because they come from very poor, wretched backgrounds, we are not like that. We have been patient but there is a limit to what we can take. On this Jaiz Bank, there is no going back. Everything has been done according to the law and if the Christians think this country belongs to them, they are a bunch of idiots. We’ll meet fire with fire; let them leave us alone. If they want us to live in Nigeria peacefully as we want to do, then let them respect our rights as we concede to them their own rights,” SCSN boss added.
On the post-presidential election crisis that occurred in Kaduna and other parts of the North, the group again said the attacks were premeditated, adding that “this reality is supported by the fact that Southern Kaduna Muslims were massacred on Sunday even before the election results were announced. Whatever happened was a reaction thereto. The refugees were left to cater for themselves. In fact, most of them were compelled to leave the camp. The government must restore people’s freedom, compensate them fully and return to their homes.
“The activities of the Joint Task Force in Maiduguri are most unfortunate. The JTF is using an unbalanced force in its attempt to restore peace and order to Borno state. Innocent lives were killed, women are being violated and people’s property being plundered.

“The SCSN is watching carefully, plans by some politicians to bring back the issue of extended tenure of the present regime. This is very much similar to the thrown out third term bid of the former President Obasanjo. We call on all Nigerians to condemn and resist this attempt resolutely.
“As we are approaching the Holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are enjoined to participate in the moon sighting exercise, listen and obey announcements. Muslim businessmen and women are requested to be compassionate to their brothers and sister in the sales of commodities,” the SCSN said

Nigerians jailed for £1m online fraud in UK

| Print | E-mail

Monday, 25 July 2011

THREE Nigerians recently arrested for online fraud have been convicted and jailed by a court sitting in London, United Kingdom.

The online fraudsters, Ayodeji Kareem, 39; Babatunde Fafore, 41 and Vincent Alonge, 32, according to London Evening Standard, were jailed for stealing £1.1 million from bank customers by 'phishing.'

The newspaper reported that the trio, who in the past had engaged in a series of online fraudlent acts had "tried to steal £4.25 million during the two-year fraud.”

During their trial, Kareem, of Peckham, and Fafore, of County Neath, in Ireland, reportedly admitted conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to acquire and use criminal property.

Alonge, of Wimbledon, admitted possessing a false ID card and an article for use in fraud.

After their trial, Fafore was jailed for five years and seven months, Kareem for five years and five months and Alonge for two years.

The London Evening Standard reported: “The trio of Kareem, Fafore and Alonge hacked into thousands of bank accounts but were caught after a victim returned from holiday to find an email message containing 600 names, addresses and passwords.

“This led the Police Central E-crime Unit to Alonge and then Kareem and Fafore via 4,000 emails between them and other gang members.

“Snaresbrook crown court heard that the fraudsters chatted online while accessing victims' bank accounts. In one conversation in April 2008, Fafore typed: "Done, I did £3,019.23.”

“Kareem was found to have 2,660 credit and debit card numbers along with details of 1,552 accounts and 15 bogus bank web pages.

“The gang used the bogus pages to con victims into revealing confidential information, which they then used to obtain credit cards.

"Fafore, the principal conspirator, had the numbers for 490 cards, details of 1,982 bank accounts and three fake bank web pages. Alonge had 12,745 sets of card details, 182 sets of account details and 22 bogus web pages.

"One victim was fleeced out of £219,000 after the gang obtained his signature from Companies House.

As NDLEA Arrests Fela’s Wife, Two Others Over Cannabis

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has prevented a 39-year old suspected major drug trafficker from smuggling 1.5kg of whitish powder, which tested positive to cocaine, in milk containers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

The suspect, George Mike Adelabu, was apprehended during the outward clearance of passengers on an Emirates flight to India.

The drug was factory-packed in liquid milk containers among other tin food products suggestive of a complex drug trafficking network.

The anti-drug agency has, however, launched intense investigation into the seizure, describing it as shocking.

NDLEA’s Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade, said that the mode of concealment was a reflection of the desperation and sophistication of drug trafficking syndicates.

“This is shocking. Drug trafficking cartels will continue to devise new tricks of shipping their drugs to preferred markets, where they believe they will have more financial value. Who would have imagined that the content of the tins are not milk? The Agency has equally risen to the challenge by conducting meticulous search, as well as adopting other techniques to counter the illicit activities of drug barons,” Giade stated.

Also arrested were a hair stylist Samuel Aminat Abiodun who deals in jewelries, and a trader, Nkpachi Pedro Collins, 41.
