You have not been following Nigeria politics. In 2011, ANPP has about 5 northern Governors. These Governors and other stakeholders conspired against Buhari and vowed to deny him the party's ticket.

When Buhari learnt of their plan, he left ANPP and started CPC with no Governor, senator or political stakeholder in the north. CPC was then like Labour party.

However Buhari still won the north ( NW/NE) and got over 12 million votes in the election.

The northern political stakeholders in PDP could not deliver their states to Jonathan while those in ANPP could not deliver their states to Shekarau.

Yes but he could not get presidency until he got political stake holders in the south. Winer of presidency is not only about getting a block votes but about getting votes from every geo political zones . A Regional politician can not win presidency. As things unfold in pdp with the Issue of G5 governor's if not settle Atiku is becoming regional politician which can not make him to becomes president .Tinubu has stake holders in South and Northern part of the country than how things is working against Atiku in the south.

Buhari had stake holders in the north but was defeated in 2011 bcs he had no political stake holders from the south.On Jonathan; majority of norther politicians like Senate , house and governors decamped to Apc . That was the major setback that made Jonathan to be defieted .
