HealthRe: Expect Total Strike From Jan 6, Doctors Warn by adeoladrg(m): 9:30pm On Dec 22, 2013
miriamP: dullard. Its only in govt hospitals drs are relevant and d reason? Protocols. We are treating the patients based on our own directives as docs are nower to be found and guess what? Dey are doing fine. Go to private hospitals, a nurse can man a hospital without the doc, she can handle any emergency, send for tests , prescribe drugs, treat and discharge ! The doc only makes occassional appearances. Ur relevance in govt hospitals is just out of due process so please wake up from ur slumber, u guys re just ignorant douche bags and ur proud heads are just atomic bombs waiting to xplode till u get some reasoning into ur calcified skulls. U cannot do anything without d members of JOHESU take it or leave it, u can ask my grandma in d village. Even she knows that.

Sadly, if NMA's demand was solely funding and stuff, we'd gladly support them. They're simply pained about one CONHESS salary scale which I think seems to favour pharmacists and JOHESU. I hope someone would come and break it down for us cos I don't seem to understand..

How is the skipping detrimental to doctorshuh

lomaxx: Thanks.

You're the right person to ask this. Is Rifaximin available in Nigeria ? How expensive is it?
Try visiting any healthplus or medplus pharmacy branch at Ikeja or VI. They order their drugs directly from the UK. It has the brand name- Xifaxan. Heard Chinese generics were available in Lagos.

U could order it from those Internet pharmacies preferably the Canadian ones. They av the best price so far, only next to India.

pembisco: bro. Sm doctors u see overseas bein referd as CMDs myt be doctors of laboratory medicine or doctors of phamacology. A PHD holda of pharmacy, mls, rad or nursing is olso a dr u knw nd they head hospitals abroad
Bros pls ignore his ignorant a5s. Overseas, we av doctors of pharmacy(pharmD) and that's the minimum requirement for practicing as a pharmacist.

FG shouldn't dialogue with one party. I'm not surprised that the NAFDAC issue has come up again. As much as pharmacists av spoken to FG and has been told by FG to allow Orhii complete his tenure, Orhii is planning to run again in January, 2014. Adongerrit!!!!

Best comment so far by an MBBS graduate.

The truth of the matter is that fed. Govt
needs to call a joint meeting between
NMA, JOHESU and ministry of health to
address all the issues being raised by
each union and same resolved in thier
presence. Govt should not hold meeting
with each union separately because it
may not help the situation. There is a
serious acrimony between NMA and
JOHESU in the health sector and each
union's demands are direct opposite of
the other one such that meeting NMA
demand to prevent strike will provoke
JOHESU to emback on strike. For
example, JOHESU is demanding that only
Doctors should not be made Chief
Medical Directors of hospitals as it is the
usual practise till now and NMA is saying
that only Doctors have the prerogative to
be CMD in govt owned hospitals. So both
unions demand are antagonistic and govt
will do well by calling both unions to the
discussion table and resolve the issues
once and for all. Anything outside this
may not help the ordinary citizens who
are the primary beneficiaries of hospital
services.

Pharm Akintayo, my man!!!

They said people'll die when doctors go on strike. Les see if the mortality rate won't increase exponentially when pharmacists decide to strike. Talk less of JOHESU going on strike. Tho community pharmacists shouldnt strike oo, that'll be the killer.. I dont want that to happen.. Yeye doctors!

Meanwhile NAFDAC crisis has started again. Dr Orhii is campaigning for another term.. Read full and explanative story here->

DailyNews: See my brother, bragging aside, I have all it takes to sleep with as many girls as I want but I don't do it...not really cos of religious reasons alone but cos I was raised that way...I grew up in a strict environment and it became a part of me not to be so free with d opposite sex.

But if u see how ladies mock me directly and indirectly and even use some demeaning words behind me just cos I decided not to be living like others...that alone is discouraging and shocking to say...and when I come online and see the same ladies hailing guys who say no sex till marriage as if its what they practice in real life, it just make me lose hope in this place.

I only encountered peer pressure from my fellow male friends, school mates, etc when I was in secondary school...but at a point, most of them began to cheer me and even encourage me and also try to practice abstinence...but I can boldly tell u that the females are always saying demeaning things abt me cos of my kind of strict nature...some will even mock me openly and ask if I will ever marry, come on...and they will come online acting all virgin.

Honestly, internet is just a facade where most people come to live a fake life. I just realised this a while ago. So people must beware and not just take people by what they type online.

I will try my best anyway, thankssmiley
So I read this post and I was thinking.. Hmmmmm

Samgreguc: wot is the difference between those two please?
Basically clinical pharmacy myt not yet be in progress here in naija unlike how it is in the western world.

Hospital pharmacists are the ones that work in the hospital for the purpose of compounding, dispensing, counselling et al. There's something pharmacists call MTM in the UK. Medication therapy management, u myt want to Google that.

Clinical pharmacists undergo residency programs(in les say HIV/AIDS or oncology) in the hospital for a number of years. What I'm not sure of is if this residency program qualifies him as a consultant or he has to undergo another program to be a consultant.

Both go for ward rounds buh one has a deeper knowledge than the other. If only we could practice clinical pharmacy the way they do abroad, the doctors would know their places and quietly sit there. We av the court case to train clinical pharmacists by WAPCP in our favour already tho. Let's pray for Pharm Akintayo and the newly inaugurated PCN as they do their best. Long live the pharmacy profession, Long live PSN, Long live PCN, Long live pansites, Long live my friends on this thread, Long live Nairaland. cheesy Cheers *drops mic*

Haha, see whines.. I'm in year 2. Currently preparing for AnatPhyBch exam sef.. It is well..

It really doesn't matter buh matters too. Our first class was a pharmchem class.. Buh I think it depends on curriculum. Intro to pharmacy was under clinical pharmacy dept coupled with history (both Nigerian and Global) of pharmacy, herbal and alternative medicine et al.

CareerRe: Pharmacists, Pharmacy Students And Interns. At Home Or Abroad, Let's Meet Here. by adeoladrg(op): 7:02am On Dec 21, 2013
Hospital Pharmacy has less customer issues to deal with rather they av a lot of compounding issues, accuracy, medication management, drug interactions, regimen safety issues esp the IVs. Patients compliance too. The only professional function that overlaps them is that of dispensing and counseling and access to patients medication history.

Here community pharmacists av to worry bout customer satisfaction, accuracy and timing of drugs dispensed and customer related stuffs not negating the ambulatory part. Where I'm going is this.
WHO has put a lot of drugs under the GSL list. Drugs like postinor for example. U don't need to see a doctor b4 u take them, tho that doesn't make it an OTC. U av to see a pharmacist b4 using them. I presume that this GSL list is even wider than the POM list, lotta antibiotics are there.. Cheers

nouveaux: funniest thing, you might not be taught in class maybe until the 4th year. I so much dislike the way the curriculum is.
Do you know that even at year two, some of my colleques dont know the basics things, I mean know what pharmacy is really.
Not their fault, its the fault of the syllabus. We just come to classs and the next thing, they start taking us thru series of advanced sciences. There should be a course named Intro. to Pharmacy, even if it goin to be 1unit.

To your questions, I will just give examples.
The pharmacists yoou see in Hospitals are Hospital rxs and the rxists(not chemists) u see in the streets are the community rxists.
U are under a doctor in Hospital settns nd alone, on yyour own, in community settings!
Also latter has the potentials of making 'dangerous' amount of money! I mean Kudi, or Ego or Owo(r:m). Hehehe. Hope I tried
We have an 'intro to pharmacy' course in my school at 200L. I wrote the exam b4 ASUU strike. Different schools and their curriculum. I met 2 200L girls from UI(tolu and Tosin, busayo too) and I found dey had a diff curriculum.

The diff btw hospital pharmacy and community pharmacy is not that much of a problem. Unlike hospital Pharmacy vs clinical pharmacy.

Nigerians av this issue with drugs, they overuse a drug and it becomes resistant. smh
