tolurx: why can't these doctors just leave us alone?

Prof Fola Tayo did have a candid point. B.pharm pharmacists are the only health professionals not trained by the bed of the patients. That's y the teaching hospitals don't recognize us. But there's reason to be happy cos the curriculum is gonna change very swiftly as a national meeting of health professionals is been initiated. More to come later. Cheers.

I'd be bringing few things Prof Fola Tayo talked about in his speech,(very deep things) when I have the time. Ilorin is rocking and the pharmacy profession is pushing. PharmD innabit, pharmacy consultant already approved by the court and doctors are saying the court should reverse its decision. A lot of things I was oblivious of that my eyes have opened to. Cheers

Tolexander: Most of these sachet waters aren't pure at all and can be a good culturing medium for microorganisms which are very obvious as tiny particles in them on long storage.

A lot of those pure water companies dont av a distillating machine and some other vital equipments. NAFDAC has failed here.

@Nosike dont forget that this same pharmacists produce the antibiotics used to treat this diseases, so who shud av a very indepth knowledge of microbiology. And perhaps the salary issue is peculiar to kwara state.

NatureCare has a zinc 50mg product, its available in lagos. Vit A and E comes together in diff products, example is Avitae. Selenium and the rest can be found in other multivitamin products. Centrum is another very good product.

Some drugs are meant to be taken on an empty stomach so op before you do that let you pharmacist know that your kid have issues taking drugs maybe he/she may prescribe one that doesn't require taking before meals.

Didnt know this was the trend everywhere. in my school, girls have be the ones winning the prize for best graduating students for the past 4-7 years as i heard.

Federal Staff Hospital Abuja over what they termed unlawful treatment of pharmacists in the hospital and the transfer of the Head of Pharmacy Department, Pharmacist Taiye Olugun.
The pharmacists who were angry over the Chief Medical Director, Dr Chiwe Igwilo’s handling of affairs of the hospital said things came to a head when she decided to transfer the head of department.
Pharmacist Douglas Tamunomielbi who led his other colleagues said the management sees pharmacists as mere salespersons and does not accord them their rightful places in the hospital.
Another pharmacist, Hasiya Daura, said the CMD had given the HOD 24 hours notice to return to the Federal Ministry of Health while his office filing cabinet was removed and placed downstairs while his name and designation were removed from his office door.
Meanwhile, the CMD who was seen trying to unlock the door of the pharmacy added that patients would not be made to suffer for actions of the pharmacists. Patients were seen hanging around the pharmacy with their prescription papers waiting to be attended to.
Dr Chiwe Igwilo who reluctantly spoke to Daily Trust said she merely transferred the HOD following an investigation being carried out against him concerning his alleged involvement in removal of some drugs from the hospital. She said reports of the finding would be submitted to the office of auditor general who would advise on the necessary action to be taken.
According to her, the minister of health is in the best position to respond to the issues but would  report the matter to the permanent secretary.

On RIPE and antimalarial, i am doing a research. Thanks God i got useful information from better source. I was disappointed in u guys response that i decided to let it go. Problem with most of guys is that u do not understand principles and rationale before a reform or policy is made. Go and find out basis for pharmD in usa and why most countries including of the world european union have not made pharmD compulsory for pharm job entry? Mind u i ve nothing againstpharmD. Even in ubth where there is pharmaceutical care jobs of doctors are not affected. Why are u crying like babies? So i demand that pcn and nuc should pharmD before end of this year. Lol.
NOTE that i am not beefing pharmacists. For what? If i see pharmacists that are well-behaved we can form group practices on mutual agreement. Not a big deal.What i hate is this hatred that doctors are stopping pharmD. It is a lie. Hold pcn responsible.

Thats where u don't get it. 1) We dont even need pharmD before we can carry out efficient pharmaceutical care, just that the pharmD program is clinically loaded compared to b.pharm 2) PharmD program is not to affect the work of doctors in any way, instead its to support it. Now what u dont know is... There was a time the program would have been passed into law, but the doctors in whatever chamber it was, weda na national assembly abi na senate, teamed up with others to turn it down, if not we'd av had pharmD pharmacists come in from the UK to pioneer the program in naija. The story of how Uniben started the program still beats me, my dean explained it to me some years back buh i dont still understand it, what i know is they faced stiff confrontations from doctors. See the fact that u dont av any issue with the program doesnt mean other doctors dont.

And on that thread, u were given the safest drug to go with RIPE, what else do u want? Move joor!

phantom: very funny! Drug experts yet you turn around , package a drug and then advise it should be TAKEN ON A PHYSICIANS PRESCRIPTION.

U'd be so daft to think its only physician we write on those packages. 'Consult your pharmacist or doctor before using this drug' is usually written. Now lemme explain, most times controlled drugs that contains morphine and the likes are usually prescribed solely by doctors but may be taken under the supervision of a pharmacist. Majority of drugs with narrow therapeutic index do not need a physicians order as WHO has put them under the General Sales List and can be taken without a physician. If you go to a Rxcist, and after you complain he sees u need benylin with codeine, he's allowed to sell, u dont need to go to an hospital for that. Don't beef it, don't doubt it. We are the drug experts, we were trained to simplify your medicines use, no matter how complex. Yaga!! Peace!

And who is struggling with nurse practitioners for prescriptions. As far as i know, the work of this two will never overlap, we remain the drug experts no matter how much years of residency any other profession does!

even in usa not all universities run pharmD and most nations of the world do not run pharmD.
if pcn and nuc need pharmD they can go ahead doctors cannot stop them. doctors are not in charge of nuc and pcn. pharmacists should not blame doctors for their failure to run pharmD. in fact i care less about pharmD cos it does not change jobs of doctors. it benefits pharmacists because they would make more money. i do not care as long it would not affect my salary or my job. even in usa where there is pharmD pharmacists are struggling with nurse specialists over prescription.

Oya show a link that says US pharmacy schools still offer b.pharm! As a matter of fact, PharmD became the minimum standard for practicing as a pharmacist in the US since the 80's. Wus argument is pointless now? Shift joor!

Wikipedia didnt say Dioscorides wrote materia medica. It said the name was derived from one of his works. That said, why didnt u read through the whole article and tell me about the others who were involved in the information process of the materia medica: the works of shennong, GALEN and about 20 other people(botanists and therapist) who were there when materia medica was not known as materia medica. The name 'materia medica' was then coined from a physician's work, and u're saying a physician wrote it.

Medical doctors are the word 'corruption' itself. You politically block healthcare workers from progressing and become consultants in their fields. You'd come here and say something about US that uve never been to. In the US, healthcare is sweet, nurses are enjoying themselves, pharmacists practicing pharmaceutical care efficiently and docs doing their surgeries et al, med lab scientists too. But what do we have here? Doctors want to be everywhere. NAFDAC, NDLEA, Hospital administration only them, they'd prescribe and dispense, attack the nurses like they didnt go to school too.
