EducationRe: What Are You Currently Studying And What Do You Hope To Be In Future? by adeoladrg(m): 5:31pm On Sep 30, 2013
Presently studying Pharmacy. I want to work @ WHO after my induction(dont even doubt that) and move up the ranks slowly but surely. 8-) I also want to work in NAFDAC at some point. I want to part of the revolutionary force that will reduce the effect that brand companies have on our drug pricing system, thereby making drugs available to the poor as they are to the rich. So help me Lord.

Swashi007: Tnx@ boss Adeola
a frnd of mine said wif d stiff competitn faced by pharmacy 4rm
doctors nd oda BMS,dat d best bet 4 dem is to open a pharmaceutical store afta grad. Pls hw tru is dis?
I think it's the other way round. They are the ones facing stiff competition from pharmacy due to its evolving nature. I'd advise you to work in a community for a while to see if you find fulfilment from it, if not u'd be frustrated in no time. Customer issues, Staff issues are issues u shud plan for before opening ur own pharmacy.

Pharmacy of course.. U'd offer pharmacology + chemistry + microbiology + Ceutics + Cognosy. U see, pharmacologists are in no way near pharmacists.. Plus anatomy, physiology and biochemistry in ur 200 level.. There's no need even comparing..
Yeah, I know the feeling..the catchy part is usually the 'Stand up for the Champions' song of the day! You will definitely get there, with hardwork, dedication and commitment. 77/124peeps, not a small thing wink! But we thank the Lord.

kjbobo: The question is very broad....info on what exactly cos those are three different countries with three different standards.
However, common denominator is that Pharmacy is more rewarding here than home....you can imagine earning an average of$500 per day and average of &$150-200k per annum....you dont want to convert that to Naira right?cos if you did...u'l weep for Pharmacy in Naija
Wow!!! I mean just wooowwww!!!! That's a lot of doe..

Varies from school to school. But basically mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology are not to be toyed with.. Chem, phy and bio always have their practicals attached. Physic and Chemistry are four unit courses in my school. Someone in urs can help with that..

U can also check out the pcn website or follow this link http://pcn-ng.org/Benchmark%20and%20Minimum%20Academic%20Standard-Pharmaceutical%20Sciences.pdf or

Ull find useful info there..
Nope..you don't need a Msc in Pharm to go for PharmD, PharmD is just an extension of B.Pharm, with more clinically-oriented stuff! Ward rounds and all. Takes pharmaceutical care to a whole new level and hence, more patient-oriented. Meaning, it involves more of Clinical and Biopharmacy and less of PharmChem and Cognosy.

Msc in Pharm is however in a class of its own!

"As Men of Honor....."
We joins hands.. More Pcl, less pch and PCG won't be bad.. I suppose the short forms for the courses vary with diff schools. In mine it's pct for Ceutics, PCM for micro, Pcl for clinical, PCG for Cognosy, pch for pharmchem and PHA for pharmacology.. Who has something different?

kjbobo: Its gonna be written as four although mine was five but I think its becos Pharmacy school doesn't reckon with Part 1 as Part of your Pharmacy knowledge acquisition
process.
However,I want to advise to please not listen to people and lecturers that will say its not about g.p
if you have plans to further or pick up sime reputable jobs or further outside country. ...dont joke with g.p abeg!
4.0 is d minimum you can finish with to have soft landing.
All the best!
I had a 4.95 in my 100L, hoping to finish with a first when I resumed, but then this 200L first semester has been hell-like.. Ryt now, I don't mind having Atleast a 4.-anything..

Click and read, we'll get there too... They don't know we'd make the physicians work even easier, it all falls down on the patients tho.
The point is, when pharmaceutical care is not present or up to standard as proposed by hepler and strand, healthcare isn't complete.

KDULAR: All this above insults and expression of childishness is un called for. Like when you become a professional and starts encountering some clinical issues, you'll discover that pharmacology has not much to contribute in clinical settings but all aspects of pharmacy training, thus the boast of who knows pharmacology doesn't count.
The first introduction of B. Pharm in Nigeria I think was in 1989 in UNIBEN, prior to which there was BSc pharmacy. In a space of less than 20 years, we are now having Pharm D in some schools that is a positive. The B. Pharm degree is a bridge between highly product oriented BSc Pharmacy and clinical oriented PharmD. Be that as it may, for those who are feeling that Pharm D is all what you need now, it is not so . You may Go for the traditional B.pharm if you are thinking of hanging on to other aspects of pharmacy but for you to be more effective in the clinical setting, you've got to have Pharm D. Clinical setting is not all that pharmacy is about.

This is a profession that every other person both in health care and non healthcare sector ( Doctors nurses, lab, politicians, businessmen, Ikechukwu , Danjuma, Kayode, Tesoo,Akpan) wants to pract5ice simply because of its uniqueness, realness, and lucrativeness. shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked. That all efforts by members of the profwession to sanitize it has been met with great opposition even by the FMH of FGN because the heads of these ministries are too scared to; see some relevance taken away from their profession and economic advancement of the legal and rightful practitioners of the profession

Most hospitals in Nigeria if not all does not have even the minimum number of pharmacist to run the lowest acceptable standard of pharmaceutical care. Most hospital management does not even want pharmaceutical services to be rendered, they 'll rather want to be content with whoever is in the dispensary or pharmacy to "just hand " over drugs to patient after being able to read and count the number of drugs prescribed by the medical officer. The quality of services rendered is not in their concern. Imagine a clinic with 6 doctors 15 nurses , and 1 pharmacist amongst other health professionals. If the 3 patient are to arrive at the pharmacy the same time, and evry 10-15 minutes, each of those doctors are releasing a patient, someone tell me how even a watery pharmacy service could be rendered. When building hospital even new ones, there are no professional imput by the pharmacist on how the dispensary is to be and be situated in relation to services to be rendered. But in all this an average pharmacist has been trying what he/ she could to getb the job done like men of honour they are they discharge their duties even in the face of professional , administrative and financial strangulations by those who administers hospitals.
U raised very important points I'd want my classmates and errione to take note of.. But I don't understand the third part I made bold... Thanks for posting.. Bless ya..

KingMEXX: 300 lvl Bpharm student, UNN and also member Pans HoR. Most students see Pharm Chem as one tough dept although Pharm Tech are gradually taking over that title here in UNN. Lecturers are nice and you merit every single mark yu get. In my opinion, pharmacy is the sweetest course that requires much dedication and commitment. My fav dept so far has to be Cognosy grin
Mexx baba, Cognosy is a tough one oo, prolly because our lecturers in that dept are not friendly. Pharmchem by far, then Clinical pharmacy, I'll see how pharmacology look like when I start.

kjbobo: Adeola. ..good job. ..got the objective. ..

ngozievergreen: @ Lagcity, inferiority complex @ its peak.
How many tyms do doctors discuss sth by comparing themselves to other professions?
The answer is none cos they are proud of what they do,
i dont understand y u guys are just not proud.
Thought everybody shd be in a class of his own
Pls just ignore her... Seems you don't understand english...

DrKlever: . Lol this lady is sure bitter. But why? If what you noticed here is inferiority complex then yours is chronic beef. You need to take your medications miss because as it not been for the pharmB in Nigeria there wouldn't be a signicant difference between the physicians and the pharmacists. Get a job and don't derail pharmacists thread!
Chronic beef? Ahh, she'll need some serious pharmacotherapy.. Thanks tho..

Thanks for replying.. I've also done the dept exams but was about to take anatomy, physiology and biochemistry the week the strike began.. My name is Deola like my username says. I'm studying pharmacy presently in my 200 level at Olabisi Onabanjo University. Pharmacy school has been just neutral so far. But the experience I can't forget is when we had our first PCT practical.. As senior colleagues advised me to be familiar with my codex b4 the practical starts.. I think I had 1/10 in the practical, I didn't know if to cry or kee myself that day.. As time goes on, I'll share some others and I expect you to do so..

If you have intelligent pharmacy or drug related posts we can learn from too, we'll be glad to have them. U can also tell us what Uve been upto as concerns ASUU strike, I've learnt a whole lot during this period.. Cheers.

I was sad as I read this post sha.. I also waited 4 years b4 I got into pharmacy school as my mum is also a pharmacist. I also tried Unilag, OAU and UI, buh when the desperateness reaches its climax, i opted for OOU cos I didn't see myself become anything else apart from been a pharmacist. Unilorin now has pharmacy nw, there's a unilorin pharmacy IT student presently in my place of work, you can try ur best.. Pursuit is the prove of desire, if you want it, then go for it.. kjbobo: Hello Adeola...
I think its thoughtful of you to open this thread. ..
I am a Pharmacist.graduated from O.A.U in 2008.
Worked with GSk and Sanofi Aventis...but moved to Canada a month ago for Masters in Health Sciences.
Deola...what's the objective of this thread?
Thank you very much. But like aprokomania said..

aprokomania: as men of honour we join hands. if i understand deolas post, she said d objective of the post is to form an online community to discuss on how we can move the profession forward. #teamIrepUniben
I want a platform where aspiring pharmacy students can meet with present pharmacy students, where pharmacy student and pharmacists can meet each other, exchange ideas and be an inspiration to each other. There might be someone somewhere in lets say far-away A.B.U that has a problem with stock solution titration or forensic pharmacy and get help by just posting it on NL. Present pharmacists like you sir, can be a preceptor(if possible) here, tell us what the situation of things are in Canada and stuffs like that. I met a pharmacist last month who told me a lot of things he did right and things he wished he did right in pharmacy school, I went home happy that day. I don't know if there someone that understands what I'm saying.. So I'd just introduce myself now.. Bless ya.
