Please help (anyone with a good understanding of this kind of situation)

,
Aderin0la:
Please, can a Godfather be a co sponsor? My biological mother is my main sponsor and she has the complete tuition and living expense for a year already (about 8m), plus a few extra millions (approx 3m+)... God father has an account of over 20m, but he is not related to me by blood. My biological father is late also. Is this possible? What kind of proof can I use to show that he’s really my God father? Or has anyone here been in this situation before?

Also if my mother decides to be the only sponsor, can she list one (worth above 5m) of her 3 buildings as a property that she intends to sell to support my second year? What proof can we present to show that the property has really been placed on the market? Or will a letter from a lawyer do?

PS: I’m 21, have a bachelors degree in Cell Biology and Genetics (just completed Nysc) and I’m going for a Masters in Medical Biotechnology (2 year program).

Please help!

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Aderin0la: 9:38pm On Aug 02, 2020
Hello house. Please I’m in a dilemma.

I got admitted for the Masters in Medical Biotechnology program at University of Windsor, for Fall 2020. Because the admission came in late, I decided to defer until Fall 2021 (so I can gather the right documents for my SP application). Here’s my profile:

21 years old.
Just completed Nysc.
Bsc in Cell Biology and Genetics (2’1).
No travel history (never applied for or been denied a visa either).
Currently Working as a Medical Laboratory Assistant.
I plan on taking a few online courses in Biotechnology before December/January when I submit my study permit application.
Total Tuition for the 2year program is CAD 28,350... Other fees for the 2 years sums up to CAD 6,200. when I divided this, my cost of attendance for a year is around 17,000, plus the 10,000 living expenses = 27,000 (Approximately 8million naira).
I’m trying to build up my sponsors bank statement from now but here’s my challenge:

My mother is my main sponsor. She’s a civil servant, has a bank statement of about 9 or 10m naira, 3 buildings in Lagos, and a store. But her current balance would only be sufficient for 1 year of study. Would it be ok to use just her as my sponsor? Can I list the worth of the properties alongside her bank statement, and say that she plans on selling one of them?
I have 2 siblings but they’re not heavily dependent on her (one had a masters degree already and is working and one is still in secondary school).

Just Incase, Her friend agreed to be my Co sponsor. But we are not related in any way. Different surname too. But he has a bank statement of almost 20m. Would it have any effect if I list him as my Godfather? Would I have to show any proof ? Or just a sponsorship letter from him would do?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Aderin0la: 6:46pm On Aug 01, 2020
Yes it’s possible

ptoall1000:
Or is it possible to get a 2 years Master s program for as low as 15,000 dollars per annum?

Ok. Thank you very much.

zill001:
I got admission to Centennial College and did not go through any credential evaluation process. However, upon registration, a student is required to provide original copies of all credentials and transcripts from previous schools. I am not sure if different courses have their requirements as mine is a pgc. You can send an email to the admissions office for Africa and ask is such evaluation is required or can be waive.

Good luck.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Aderin0la: 10:02pm On Jul 28, 2020
Please house, I’m looking at applying to Centennial College, for Winter 2021. I saw this (screenshot below) while looking at the admission requirement for my program.

Did everyone who applied to centennial college here have their transcript evaluated by WES?
Even tho it’s a bachelors degree transcript (2’1)? Is there a way this can be waived?

Please can you share the financial aspect,

Like your tuition, how much bank statement you presented and all (you can give a close figure if you’re not comfortable sharing the exact amounts)... I’m asking cuz this seems like the only area I’m confused about.

I think this is what you mean;

sonofakin:
There is a document the embassies seemed to be using as a guideline to determine if they will reopen based on local conditions or not. It was formulated by the States Department and used by both their domestic and overseas outlets. It isn't very clear to me though, I guess it is not that straightforward. Because if it were, embassy in Wellington should have opened by now. The document is called DIPLOMACY STRONG and it is online
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Aderin0la: 10:41am On Jul 16, 2020
Do not try it... don’t jeopardize your future.

First question is “how were you able to apply for and get the job without first uploading your NYSC certificate?”...

Find a way to inform the company that you’ll be done in November. You’ll most probably get your certificate in October (cuz of the 21days leave). If they found you better qualified for the job than other applicants, they should be lenient enough to give you a few weeks....

Do not forge anything. Better safe than sorry.

Kayodemax:
hi nairalander!

please I need your advice. I just got an offer from a telecommunication company in Nigeria but I was asked to scan and send my NYSC certificate.

I'm yet to finish NYSC. I'll finish by November.

is it advisable to forge thee certificate (just put my picture another one original one and edit).

I don't know if telecom company do verify nysc certificate also I don't want to lose the job.

please I need your advice

Thanks all
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Aderin0la: 1:47pm On Jun 29, 2020
Thank you.

For specific reasons, I cannot list my parent as my sponsor.

If my sponsor decides to transfer whatever remaining deficit to make up my cost of attendance for two years, would it be a red flag to the VO (as to why there’s a lump sum transfer)? Even if the summary of the transfer states “tuition fee deposit”?

Frankrobbn1:
Since your parents can afford to transfer 6Million into your account, what stops them from representing as the main sponsor of your education?

Your chances of gaining an approval looks good, albeit my advise for you is that your biological parents should also come into the picture as your sponsor. The financial burden shouldn't rest upon your uncle which is regarded as a third party sponsorship in the immigration regulations of Canada. The both parties (parents and uncle) should provide their statements to prove their financial support and stability.

With regards to ties that can compel your return home after studies.

I would strongly suggest that you invest more effort in constructing a persuasive and concise SOP that will demonstrate that you're a bona-fide applicant and would depart upon the completion of your studies.

The SOP should extensively and convincingly explain the lucrativeness of such program (Master in Biotechnology) in your home country considering it's exorbitant tuition fees. Is there huge demand for expertise in this field in your home country as well as financially rewarding that can offest the cost of the program in Canada. The range of opportunities the program in Canada will bring to you as a person. Is the program not offered in any institution in Nigeria of which bolstered your resolve to undertake a foreign education.

The personal statement should discuss what you intend to achieve in a short-term and long-term basis. You should explain how this master's program is of utmost importance to your career advancement. More importantly, the difference you could make when you return to your country e.g you being a consultant in the long-term by providing critical biotechnology solutions to multinational companies and government as well as using this avenue for creation of wide range of employment opportunities for teeming youths in your home country etc...

Also attach proof of properties located in your country of residence preferably in your name(or parent's name that you're directly heir to). These assets could be land, house or a registered business etc..

Additionally, explain in your personal statement that your immediate family members (aged parents, siblings, spouse and kids) is well off in Nigeria and aren't accompanying you to Canada. Go as far as mentioning the things you share in common with your siblings that would warrant your departure after duties.

If you have any financial obligations or moral responsibilities which falls on you as a leader in any of these organizations - military, community, church and family you should indicate that you will return home to continue active participation and attendance in meetings. Therefore, as a matter of urgency, it is expected of you to come back to Nigeria to occupy your position. (Following this, A letter from any of these bodies would help).

I hope this information is useful to your enquiry.

It will end in praise
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Aderin0la: 9:28pm On Jun 27, 2020
Okay...

Thank you

Nwannediutor:
Hello,

Congrats on your admission.

To be honest with you, these days it's more difficult to get approvals when your sponsor is not a parent. Why will an Uncle spend N12m on your education? Does he not have children and dependants? These are the questions the Visa Officer will ask?

My best bet, since you have 6m. you can co-sponsor yourself. Let your uncle be a co-sponsor. Also, you have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he's actually your uncle since he has a different surname.

Remember you only have to show proof that you have enough money to take care of your first year in school plus CAD10,000 for living expenses.

Good luck.

Hello all.

Please I just got accepted to the masters in Medical Biotechnology program at University of Windsor, for Fall 2020 term (tho I started the application since December last year).

I am looking to begin my visa (study permit) application on Monday if possible.

1 am 21 years old, just completed Nysc (hence I don’t really have a full time job but I’m a trainee at a company), and I also have a personal account balance of around 6million (educational funds deposited by my parents). My total cost of attendance for two years is around 12million naira, and I intend to use my uncle (with a different surname) as my sponsor (his bank statement has about 16million naira balance). Do you know if my stats are ok? I also have no direct family member in Canada, except two cousins who are also students. What do you think I can use as my home ties? And what are my chances of approval?

As I said earlier, the individual in question can NEVER EVER survive a real math class. Heck, the person most likely does not even understand calculus not to talk of discrete math or linear algebra. You're talking about admission. What is the sense of being admitted into something you would flunk out of? And no sensible math department would admit her, and any that does just wants to mess her up. Let her pursue something that is not quantitatively inclined.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Aderin0la: 12:05pm On May 24, 2020
Majorly because of the uncertainties surrounding Fall 2020...

The Sevis fee could be paid at least 3 days before your interview date, so there’s no need to rush. Peradventure this Fall also doesn’t work, and we have to defer till Fall next year (for programs with no January start date), the Sevis fee MAY expire before you book your interview next year. So it’s better to lose the visa fee of N62,400 only, than to loose both the visa and Sevis fee that amounts to about N200,000.

But if you have it or feel like paying, you’re totally free to.

4hranc:
Why if I bay ask?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Aderin0la: 10:38pm On May 22, 2020
No, there’s no specific order. You can pay whichever you’re comfortable with ist.

Friedpotato:
Isn't SEVIS fee normally paid before VISA fees?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Aderin0la: 2:33pm On May 22, 2020
GTbank is “taking” Visa fee. I know quite a few people that have paid, and I’m paying for mine today too.

What I wouldn’t advise anyone to pay is the Sevis fee.

fairheart:
Subsequent to my former post, you can just secure your I-20 ahead (obtain a soft copy for now), start filling your DS-160 bit by bit, prepare your interview transcript--all done under a huge blanket of HOPE.

But don't pay the visa fee and SEVIS yet. If your passport has expired, renew it now. Don't put off those prerequisites to the interview, except for payment of sevis and visa fee (GTB won't take visa fee from anyone now self).

I have a few students in my DM asking if they should defer. DO NOT defer yet! I advice that you wait till August 10 (based on my calculation) before you defer. By then you'd have known that Fall 2020 is no-no.

If you have a GA and your school is among those universities putting all courses online, you may be required to start your program from Nigeria online. I even have information that some GA works will will be conducted from remote locations. University of North Carolina at Charlotte, for example, is trying to conduct some of its Master's programs 100% online. It may be possible to retain your GA role. Will they pay you? To which account? These are some of the questions I have been asked...

Well, from experience, nobody knows. But consider the possibility of taking your courses online in case your school go with that. Will you do online course? I know it is not lively and interactive as face-to-face in a four-walled classroom.

Well, all the best!
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Aderin0la: 6:19pm On May 12, 2020
True. DHS has instructed that schools can now send soft copies of I-20, but it must be duly signed.

https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/2020/04/dsos-read-these-tips-for-electronically-signing-forms-i-20

solastar2:
Yes.

They sent me a copy of my I-20 and told me to select one of two option. One is to send it immediately and the second is for them to keep it till embassy open for business. I chose option 1 and I also have option of regular mail or express shipping (at my own expenses) and I paid for express shipping.

You can ask if they can send hard copy to you. But, I read somewhere that embassy has been advised to work with soft copy but I dont know how true it is.

sultanfortune:
I am sure they don’t write the name of the sponsor on the I-20, they usually write "Family funds" and not the name in the SOA, same applies to so many other schools.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Aderin0la: 3:47pm On May 03, 2020
Please has anybody received I-20 from University of New Haven recently?

I want to confirm if the “name of sponsor” (name on SOA) is written on it. Or if not, what’s written?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Aderin0la: 10:44am On May 01, 2020
I’ll suggest you retake your GRE, so it can boost your GPA. Or do a Pgd or Masters here in Nigeria before applying. 2.5/7 is lower than 3.0/4 or even 2.5/4 that most schools require. But with God nothing is impossible.

Digbick:
I applied to Utep and CSU mathematics, but I was sent a message last week from CSU graduate coordinator, that I am on the unqualified queue, that I should expect a rejection from the mathematics department where I applied to, I am thinking of evaluating my result if it can boost my cgpa, considering my cgpa is 2.5/7.0 from University of Ibadan, Gre score is 283, Utep application is still on review.
Please guys what do you suggest I do?
