EME boss, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has renewed his endorsement deal with Samsung Electronics West Africa, which will see him earn up to N100million. His reps, in a statement, confirmed that "Banky and Nollywood star, Kate Henshaw will be the faces of Samsung Electronics West Africa Mobile Division. They will work together to raise awareness for Samsung mobile products, and ultimately contribute to making Samsung phones the preferred brand in the West Africa sub-region." Banky W, who has previously been a brand ambassador for Etisalat and Coca Cola Bottling Company, expressed his gratitude for the belief and trust of the electronics giants. "This is my second run as a Samsung brand ambassador and I'm grateful for the opportunity," he said. |
The Lagos State House of Assembly has instructed the men of the Nigerian police as well as other uniformed men in the state to henceforth arrest and detain those considered illegal passengers hanging on trains in the state. These illegal passengers, according to the House, include those who hang or stand on top of the couches of the trains. The House said this had become worrisome, wondering why the passengers would continue to damn the risks involved in the dangerous practice of jumping on trains while they are in motion or even hanging on such trains. The issue was discussed Monday during plenary after six of the members including Bisi Yusuf, Olumuyiwa Jimoh, Bashir Oloto, Yinka Ogundimu, Lanre Ogunyemi and Kabir Lawal, moved a motion against what they described as the unwholesome practices of some of the passengers of the train. Ogunyemi told his colleagues that the situation now calls for concern following several avoidable deaths that have resulted from the careless attitude of some of the passengers. While lamenting the situation, Ogundimu, who represents Agege Constituency 2 at the House, told his colleagues that they would understand the situation if they witnessed it first hand. He said the crowding of trains are more serious at peak periods and he pleaded with his colleagues to support the motion in order to reduce accidents that result from jumping on trains. He said he understood that because of the population of the state, the demand for means of transportation had surpassed supply, but added that the people cannot take to illegality. "The road transportation alone cannot solve the problem of Lagosians. There must be alternative means of transportation in Lagos state," he added. His colleague in the House, Suru Avoseh, said he was shocked the first day he saw the passengers on top of the coaches of a train. {read_more} "I don't know why people would willingly want to kill themselves. Somebody should not be told the danger of standing on coaches. "It is just an excuse that they want to beat traffic and get to work early," he lamented, adding that the House must make things right and ensure the law is enforced. Jimoh said he conducted an independent survey on the activities of the illegal passengers and some of them told him that they derive pleasure in it while others said they do not have money for transportation and thus resort to taking the short cut. "The law enforcement agents are not also helping matters. I saw some of them guilty of this. "Even in the time of colonialism, this did not occur. So we must do something urgently to curb this menace." His colleague, Rotimi Olowo said that last year one of the passengers fell from one of the coaches and died, adding that the police immediately began arresting those flouting the law. He however said the police stopped suddenly. "We need to also call the police to order. It is agreed that there's a problem with transportation but the Nigerian Railway Corporation should be able to give information on the departure and arrival time of trains. "The NRC should be able to carry out a research on the number of passengers, the demands and the requirements to meet the supply," he added asking that officials of the state traffic regulation unit, LASTMA, should complement the efforts of the police in this regard. Golahan Yishawu, in his contribution, said: "There's nowhere you don't have train accidents, but if you look at the frequency in Nigeria, it is high. "Most of the accidents here are caused by human error. We are always in a hurry and it is the duty of government to stop the people." He said barriers along the railway line should be monitored and blocked at least 10 minutes before trains arrive and urged the Federal Government to speed up the signalling system of the trains. Mudashiru Obasa and Ipoola Omisore urged the Federal Government to adjust every law that does not allow for development in the country. "The Federal Government should co-operate with states for efficient transportation," Obasa said. Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, Lola Akande, Deputy Speaker Taiwo Kolawole and the House Leader, Ajibayo Adeyeye, described the practice as criminal and asked the law enforcement agents to go after the perpetrators. This was adopted by the House. http://m.naij.com/news/23663.html |
What abt senator wabara, ken nnamani, ngozi iwealla, okadigbo, ojukwu and many more? |
@dammytosh, I thank you for your advice and concern. Let's take a look at your comments here, you accused Fashola of building roads on newspapers, do you really mean that? Come to some inner streets in iyana-ipaja where I reside and see roads under construction suchas Adealu street, oyewole street, oyewole road, araromi street, egbeda-idimu, ishajimi street, alimosho road, tolani street and many more that I don't know their names all in iyana ipaja axis. Even though, we need more from our government, we should commend them for the little they are doing instead of lying. |
jmaine: Yes she did say it, but it was after the interview session with Mr President . . . .She didn't say anything pertaining to Lagos. People can form anything oooo |
2Mekus: [b]Fashola and his cronies are tribal bigots. He is always quick to close down anywhere his people are not predominant. A bomb ripped apart a building during the Christmas period inside Lagos causing several buildings there to quake. Till date, the owner of the warehouse that stored the explosive devices is never fished out and the market still thriving there; whereas an adjacent street that had a building burnt by fire in a separate incident had all the shops there shut-down since October last year with majority of the traders there being Ibos.Haba! Most if the traders of the two markets are yoruba, so why are u lying? We forgive because u didn't know what u typed. |
GARRI (x7):I quite agree with you but please don't add extremely bigot called pointB to it because he lacks knowledge and unintelligent. |
To all nairalanders especially politics section to thump up for some of our posters for their intelligence and high I.Q, they have used in debating national, regional and local issues. Buttressing and giving some informations for some of us to acquire. These have really helped me broaden my horizon and now have knowledge of politics more. Despite that they are systematically biased but we need to appreciate them often such as: Katsmoto, Naptu.2, Obinoscopy, Gbawe, kobojunkie, Edo.girl, Afam4eva, Aribisalao, Onlytruth and Eko ile. |
I repeat no governor in the entire 35 states can be compared with Fashola. It's not rockets science! Some other governors are doing ok such as Akpabio and Aregbesola but not up to what Fashola has done and still doing. Let's appreciate this man for what is doing which had eluded us since millitary taken over this country. Please let's support good governance. Thanks |
Ngwakwe: Hello, my people, this thread is all about Niger Delta Governors accountability dossier.Maybe u should tell 'lastpope and others' that delibratedly got Lagos involved from their various posts. I still don't why people are so obsessed with Fashola and Lagos. |
J12: You are a foool. You keep on emphasizing on the population of Lagos state as if Fashola feeds 20 million people daily. Get outta here abeg.Fashola doesn't have to feed the entire population but they all over stretch the infrastructures available suchas roads, hospitals, schools, markets, libraries etc by the results made the LASG have much disciplinary taskforce |
Ngwakwe: By the last census figure conducted by Obasanjo's government:Do you remember during that time, Lagos Government were also carrying out her state census which was over 15 million yet not accurate cos they believed the Federal government will be unreliable and biased |
Ngwakwe: Where did you get this fictitious, incoherent census data?We can't really say the exact population of any state in Nigeria but its obvious Lagos is over four times bigger than Rivers state. As far as am concern, Fashola is the undisputedly best leader from the crops of leaders we have in Nigeria today. |
Does anyone agree with him? |
Yoruba movie actor, producer and director, Funsho Adeolu had said Nigeria English film is full of crappy. Continue reading........................ http://m.naij.com/news/20290.html |
kettykin: This is very laughable and a good joke , will lagos take 100 % revenue for a port it did not build , lagos can as well take 100% of the airfare from MMIAWhy do you like lying this way? So media houses like ONTV, MITV, GALAXY, TVC, PUNCH, TRIBUNE, COMPASS, NATIONAL MIRROR, NATION ETC are owned by Niger delta? Please type something else |
kennytidistar: [Duru1]The silliest part of the exercise is the alleged team that conducted the stability test- State Raw Materials Testing Agency. I am wondering aloud how they tested the component materials of an existing structure. If Lagos State government is willing to fully compensate the homeowners, overhyped Fashola and his drunken subordinates can knock themselves out. He's intelligent, simply because he insulted Fashola. U are an slowpoke! People had taught you how to quote properly but you ignored that but enjoys insulting Fashola. |
Osiris.211:You forgot to add Ogun. Forward ever! |
Fashola is just too much for Akpabio! Infrastructurally, they are both doing well but there are many things Fashola has that Akpabio is lacking: From JOE EFFIONG, UYO Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Police, Mr Umar Gwadebe has said that the state ranks highest in the country’s list of murder cases. Mr Gwadabe, who disclosed this when the Assistant Inspector General of police, (AIG) Zone Six, Mr Ibrahim Muktari, paid a working visit to the state police command on Monday, also said the state police command lacked adequate personnel to tackle this challenge. While asking the AIG to use his position to assist the Akwa Ibom State Command in acquiring the latest forensic vehicles required to professionally and discreetly handle cases of murder and rape prevalent in the state, stressed: “It is pertinent to note that a great number of police officers are retiring while even the officers and men needed to adequately position the quick response squads and other patrol units are inadequate.” Gwadabe also informed the visiting AIG of the poor level of infrastructure and the increase in structural lapses such as bad fences which had enhanced criminal activities and serious trespass on police land by members of the public. The police boss attributed the security challenges facing his command to the economic makeup of the oil rich state with an estimated population of five million people, influx of financial, oil and academic investors. He asked the AIG to make available more arms and ammunition to ensure proper and adequate security. He, however, enthused that the command had maintained an unflagging and aggressive campaign against crime and criminality which had resulted in the smashing of many criminal gangs, rescue of kidnap victims, arrest and prosecution of kidnap/armed robbery suspects and recovery of various caliber of arms and ammunition. “We have also been able to restore public confidence through our vibrant visible policing and effective response to distress calls. Our men, in line with IGP’s vision of a competent policing are undergoing constant training and retraining in order to keep them abreast with the challenges of modern policing.” However, the AIG declined to respond publicly to any of the issues raised by the commissioner and also declined to speak with the press either on the issues raised or on any other matter concerning the Akwa Ibom State police command. |
anonimi: Why is the US with over 300 million ("and still counting"Ignorance is a problem. USA is a developed nation while Nigeria is a developing nation. I compared Seychelles with Ivory coast both developing nations. Moreover, an average American is an investor. So get a life. |
afam4eva: Does Lagos state feed these 20 million people with food? If anything it increases the IGR of the state. So, stop making it seem that the high population of the state is a burden on the budget especially if you consider that the LASG is not a people oriented government.I thought you said you are educated. Let's take a look at some developing nations suchas Seychelles and ivory coast. Seychelles has a population of 20 thousand while ivory coast with a population of over 13 million, why is it dat seychelles is more organised, more developed and better managed than ivory coast? Please answer me |
@Afam, have known you before now that you are a chamelon. It's good to critisize but do it in a reasonable way. You expect Fashola to provide compensate or provide alternative for people that occupy land illegally? Fashola knows law and can't condone such illegallity at all. Is it fasholas fault that other governors are not creating jobs or at most create enabling environments for investors not just building skycrappers but also put security into consideration. Fashola remains the best leader in the current crops we have. Like him or not. Gbam! |
solomon111: True!Mr. Akpan, I know you are from Akwa-ibom, can u please explain to us why your people are leaving your state to apply job in Lagos? |
I don't know why fools compare Lagos with Akwa-ibom. Lagos has the same budget with Akwa-ibom roughly 490 billion naira now let's put population into consideration, Lagos has over 20 million to cater for and still counting why Akwa-ibom has over 1.5 million. What do you expect? People of Akwa-ibom are leaving the state to come to Lagos in search for jobs despite having good roads only in uyo. Can someone lists jobs provided by Akpabio since he assumed office and I will name times two of that provided by Fashola? |
You all can shout from now till eternity, I don't care! As long as Fashola keeps doing his job by developing our infrastructures and creates enabling environment for investors, no wahala. When all Haters are tired, u ll all move to other state. Fashola remains the best leader in Nigeria for now. Gbam |
chukwudi44: PDP is taking over lagos come 2015.The masses are fed up with fashola and his useless ACNFashola may not be the best we have in Nigeria but he is the best leader from the current leaders we have in Nigeria. Mr. Okoro, you can take it over come 2015! |
lateef4me: There is no doubt that lagosians especially the middle class and lower class are fed of Fashola and his anti -mass policies and programmes which has rendered many people penniless to the delight of his godfather ,Bola Tinubu .Good intention bad policy! By the way, who told you we are not enjoying ACN? Can't you be logical or reasonable for once that okada ban in some selected routes has done more good than harm? Can you compare LASU with any state university in Nigeria even though I believe the fees should be reduced? Please answer my questions |
queensmith: fayemi really tries to get the press on his side, this is the 2nd article of its kind im reading. The first bangin on about how he is renovating ikogosi like never seen before.Madam, I thought u said u reside in south Africa. How come? |
@ Op, You are very funny! I watched it last nite and it was repeatedly showed this morning. They were all joking in a gathering of elites to celebrate a former Akintola William delliote's auditor. Get a life! |
)with 50 states BETTER organised than Nigeria with some 160 million and 36 states
