Brother kills sisters on their wedding Eve A man killed his two sisters on the eve of their weddings in Pakistan’s central Punjab province, police said Saturday, in the latest case of so-called “honour” killings in the country. Kosar and Gulzar Bibi, aged 22 and 28, were shot dead by 35-year-old brother Nasir Hussain on Friday as they prepared to marry men they had chosen themselves, senior police officer Mehar Riaz told AFP. Hussain objected to the love matches and had wanted the women to marry someone within the extended family, he added. “The brother shot dead both the sisters yesterday and fled the site,” the officer said, adding that a search was underway. “It is a simple case of killing for honour,” he said. Father of the family Atta Mohammad told reporters that Hussain had “destroyed everything”. “He ruined my family, he destroyed us, he destroyed everything” Mohammad said. The murders came days after social media starlet Qandeel Baloch was strangled to death by her brother who said he was “not embarrassed” to have killed her, reigniting calls for action against the crime. Hundreds of women are murdered by relatives in the conservative Muslim nation each year on the pretext of defending what is seen as family honour. Pakistan’s law minister this month announced that bills aimed at tackling “honour killings” and boosting rape convictions would soon be voted on by parliament, after mounting pressure to tackle a pattern of crime that claims around 1,000 lives a year. The perpetrators of so-called honour killings — in which the victim, normally a woman, is killed by a relative — often walk free because they can seek forgiveness for the crime from another family member. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/brother-kills-sisters-wedding-eve/ |

5 Things you Need To Know Before You Build Your Life With Him ittle would one wonder the cause when you hear some ladies lament over their encounter with men in their relationship. “I spent my life with him only for him to leave me”. “He dumped me after I gave him my body and monies. Men are wicked!” I often get surprised when some ladies conclude that all men are the same. Is that true? One thing that is traceable to be the problem is because of their ignorance about this: you do not build your life around a man you are not sure of. You must be sure you are heading along the journey with the right man. And it’s not enough to say, “I feel or I think he’s the right one for me”. No, it does not work that way, you have to be sure. Going into a lifelong relationship with a man such as marriage is not a function of feelings but revelation, not to be based on emotional attraction but on conviction that comes from above. And before you build your life with him, which implies that you accept his proposal, here are some truths you have to know. 1. *A good man is hard to find* is relative. What is good for lady A is not the same for lady B. But the bottom line is that, do not expect one perfect man you have imagined or seen in fictional movies to appear your way, never think it. Wake up and access reality! Man in his ability cannot know what is good for him unless he depends on the One who knows good things. 2. *Dating does not help* Do you think dating every Tom, Dick and Harry would make you find the right man? Never! Dating is just a sheer waste of your life – time, resources and focus. You will increase your worries if dating is what you adopt in determining his suitability for your life. It will expose you to the evils some men do or believe it is love. And if you go from pillar to post on the premise of dating, you will have much to lose. Not even the so-called Christian dating as some people indoctrinate would help. If you do not know before, now you know that “dating” is social word and it is not a Kingdom word. In the Kingdom, you “court(ship)” and head straight to marriage. 3. *Discover your suitability* You can only be suitable to the right man when you know your purpose. Know yourself before you think of building your life with him. There is no point ‘managing’ him if he does not agrees with your values or purpose in life. But the mistake lots of ladies make is that, they are either myopic to see who they are or feel he is the kind of man they need. You can never be a suitable help meet if you do not know your worth. You do not need a man to complement you, you are to complement him. The fact that Eve was Adam’s suitable help meet does not mean Eve needed Adam so bad. Discover yourself so that GOD can place you in the hand of the man with whom you can be his suitable help meet. 4. *Make yourself a right partner* One thing most ladies do not know is that you cannot get Mr. Right if you are not a Miss Right. And if maybe by chance you are fortunate to have one, you will mess up the marriage. How can you be suitable for him if you do not live by purpose when he has one coupled with the fact that you failed to work on yourself? While waiting to be married, work on your emotional, spiritual, mental, financial and physical life. Conserve your energies and resources to bettering your life. Do not waste your time of singleness on ephemeral things that does no last. Invest in what would improve your life and not on relationships you’re ‘sampling’. Remember, marriage will not make you a good wife. You will make yourself a wife material before marriage. Take time to build yourself so that you can trust GOD to do His part. And this is if you want HIS perfect will. 5. *Be intimate with GOD* Being intimate with GOD is becoming archaic to the society we live in. Many do not see the Cc: |
*WHAT IF IT WORKS?* ```The queue to the ATM machine was something else because we all wanted to withdraw money. Although there was another machine beside it, nobody moved towards the second machine. We had about 25 people on one single queue. When I got there, I also went to queue but I asked one of the customers what was wrong with the other machine. 'I don't know', he said, '... but somebody said there is no money in it'. After listening to that 'somebody' tale, I moved straight to the machine everyone neglected and inserted my card. Lo and behold, the same machine 'somebody' said would not work, dispensed the sum of N25,000. As I was walking away like a magician, others who saw some cash I had withdrawn broke away from the initial queue and rushed to that machine. Why did I tell you this experience? 1. People don't get something they need from somewhere because they refused to try. 2. People refused to try because 'somebody' somewhere said it won't work. 3 The somebody somewhere may be an old authority who doesn't believe in evolution. 4. People won't take steps to do what others don't do because of the 'what if it doesn't work?' question. 5. People ask this question because they don't want to take risks. 6. Those who don't take the risk of checking if the other machine is working will remain on the long queue and may not even get what they need eventually. Meaning achieving in 2hrs what they could have achieved in 2min. 7. When a pacesetter comes and succeeds after 'chesting' the criticisms, others break ranks and follow him. Therefore, stop believing 'the somebody' that asks 'what if it doesn't work?' Ask another question: 'What if it works?' Never allow anybody to discourage you!``` |

The Bible is a story of God’s relationship with mankind, and most books put God front and center. For example: The prophets are God’s mouthpieces: the last 17 books of the Old Testament are mostly words straight from God. The Gospels focus on Jesus’ life and ministry. Jesus, the God-man, is the main character in all four books. The Law of Moses is about God’s covenant with and rules for Israel.. But as it turns out, two books of the Bible don’t talk about God at all . Weird, right? ESTHER Esther is the kind of story you could make into a movie again and again and again. This book focuses on two Jews in Susa, the capital of the Persian Empire: Esther, a girl who becomes queen, and her relative Mordecai, a member of King Ahaseurus’ guard. If you’re not familiar with the story of Esther, you can get the big picture here . In short, Esther risks her life to prevent an act of genocide against her people. It’s the history of the Jewish feast of Purim. And there’s no mention of God. So, that’s one down. Here’s the next: SONG of SOLOMON..... Song of Solomon might be the most awkward book to read. It’s a celebration of love, beauty, sex, and marriage. The main characters are a bride and bridegroom, who sing back and forth to one another and to their community. You’ll find a lot of poetic references to the human anatomy, but you won’t see any mention of God as a person... This one isn’t as cut-and-dry as Esther. There’s one passage of Song of Solomon in which the bride describes the strength and intensity of true love. She compares this love to a fire, but what kind of fire? Our English Bible translations tend to differ on how Song of Solomon 8:6 should end. Why don’t these books mention God? There are a few reasons these books don’t mention God: There are no direct words from God. Most books of the Old Testament mention prophets, who speak on God’s behalf; neither of these stories, however, include any spokesperson for God. There are no overt miracles. When God does something completely out of the ordinary, the Bible credits Him for it. But Esther is a story of human action, and Song of Solomon focuses on human love. What are these books even doing in the Bible, then? These books don’t stand alone. We should read them in context of God’s covenant with Israel. And when we take that into account, it’s clear that there’s a lot going on below the surface. For example, Esther and Mordecai are placing their faith in something beyond themselves: Esther and Mordecai fast in times of trouble. Mordecai is confident that the Jews will be delivered. Mordecai and Esther act in faith throughout the book. Mordecai is a man of integrity, and Esther is a self-sacrificial heroine. We don’t know for sure if Mordecai had God’s promises to Abraham and David in mind when he claimed that the Jews would be delivered ( Es 4:14 ). But words from God would make a good foundation for those beliefs. Esther gives me an idea of what faith looks like when it’s played out, and leaves me with the question: is my faith as evident as Esther’s and Mordecai’s? And Song of Solomon describes the bliss of married love. God sees His relationship to Israel as one of marriage, even though Israel is a terrible bride to Him. Jeremiah , Ezekiel , and Hosea all use marriage to describe God’s covenant to Israel—usually to paint a picture of Israel’s sin ( Jer 3:1 ; Eze 16 ; Hos 1). overviewbible.com/the-2-books-of-the-bible-that-dont-mention-god/.....

In our day and age, I have noticed,
and please correct me if I am wrong,
that some people including
Christians do not take God's
commands or doctrines very
seriously. Some people think that
when the new covenant, the
covenant of grace, came into effect,
God stopped caring about doctrine.
Some feel that doctrine is
insignificant in the new covenant,
only serving and loving God's people
are what's important today. Brethren, I am a firm believer that serving and loving God's people are important. However, obeying God's commands and doctrines are very important as well. In fact, not only are we going to be judged on our service to others, but we will also be judged on how faithful we are in following the Word of God. . .... “As for the person who hears my .words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day" (Jn. 12:47, 48).... We will be judged on how faithful we are in following the Words of the Lord...,,. As you can tell, I am very concerned with the laid back attitude that some people have concerning the doctrines and commandments of God. Furthermore, I am also very concerned how some people are distorting the Scriptures to justify their own desired beliefs. Some people, instead of excepting and obeying God's specific teaching on a subject, manipulate or distort God's Word to support their own human views. The Bible on many occasions warns us not to distort truth. My friends, we need to see that it is a very serious thing to distort God's Word. (1) According to ( Gal. 1:9 ), people who distort the Word of God will be eternally condemned. (2) According to ( 2 Pet. 2:1-3; 3:16 ), people who distort the Word of God will bring upon themselves destruction. (3) We must never intentionally distort the Word of God to satisfy our human and worldly beliefs. If we do, we are jeopardizing our souls. (4) If we distort or disobey a commandment of God, we commit sin ( 1 Jn. 3:4 ). And you know, as well as I know that sin is a very serious offense. (5) When God gives us a command, we need to do our very best to follow it. We need to start taking God's commands more seriously. In the Bible, when people disobeyed God's instructions, they were punished. a.Just because Adam & Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which God told them not to, death came to all people ( Gen. 3 ). b. Just because Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it like God told him too, he was not allowed to enter the Promised Land ( Num. 20:8-12 ). c. Just because Nadab & Abihu offered an unauthorized fire while worshipping God, fire came down from the presence of the Lord and consumed them ( Lev. 10:1, 2 ). d. Just because Ananias & Sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit and held back some money from a land deal, they both fell down and died ( Acts 5 ). My dear brothers and sisters, we must start taking the commandments of God more seriously. Although we are living in new covenant of grace, we still must obey the Lord. We must revere the word's of our creator. We must obey the commands that even seem insignificant to us. I realize that none of us are perfect, and on occasions, we will make mistakes. But we must do every thing we can to faithfully obey the commands of God and not distort His Word. |
There are so many good results of obedience. I could ramble on and on about all that God gives us when we obey. Generally speaking, obedience to God gives us entry into all that He has for us. It opens the door of His blessings to us and keeps us in His will. By obedience we stay in tune with God and are given all the power of God. By obedience we put ourselves in the middle of His love and there we see His glory (Jn. 14:21). We will go on now to examine six specific results of obedience. 1. By obedience we become God’s friend. The Bible says in John 14:21, “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” The word “manifest” in this verse means to disclose or to show oneself. It is a term of friendship. Therefore, as we see here, obedience to God brings to us the friendship of the Father and the Son. In John 15:14 Jesus says it plainly: “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” That thought, to be a friend of God, is just overwhelming to me. It is hard to comprehend and describe it. It is so wonderful, so heartwarming. And just think, God is willing to be a friend to anyone who will come to Him and obey Him. 2. By obedience we get to know God’s will. It’s really quite simple: the more we do what God tells us to do the more we get to know Him as a friend. And the more we grow as His friend the more He reveals Himself and His will to us. Hence, we will find that His will is good, acceptable and perfect (Rom. 12:2). We will also find that His will is mysterious, awesome, breathtaking and quite overwhelming. If you read the book of Ephesians (esp. 1: 7-12 and 3:1-20) along with the book of Revelations (esp. chap. 19-22) you will see what I mean. If you make it our aim to obey God day by day He will show you who He is and will fill you in on many of His wonderful plans. Let us pray with David from Psalms 24:4: “Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths.” 3. By obedience we bear good fruit. A life that is obedient to God will always bear good fruit. 4. By obedience we find power for continued obedience. The initial decision you make to obey God (to commit yourself to God and to surrender yourself to Him) gives you a new power over sin. It sets you free from sin. For the Bible tells us in Romans 6:16-18, “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.” Therefore, when we present ourselves to God to obey Him, He gives us a new power over sin and a power to continue to obey Him. In fact, as verse 18 tells us, by our obedience we have made ourselves a slave of righteousness. Hence, being a slave, we are compelled to continue to obey God and to be holy. It becomes our nature. It is our new heavenly desire. 5. By obedience our prayers will be answered. One of the things that will happen when we obey God is that our prayers will be heard and answered. What a marvelous thing! But I don’t think God answers our prayers just on the basis that we have gone through the mechanics of being obedient. No, it is not that way at all. John 15:16 seems to indicate that answered prayer is a type of fruit, or a manifestation of His grace that comes to us as we abide in Him; thus, as we make our obedience a lifestyle. For the last phrase of the verse, “that whatsoever you ask of the Father in my name, He may give to you,” seems to be an extension of the former phrase, “that your fruit should remain”. The word “that” between the two phrases is a connecting word that indicates that the last phrase is connected to the former phrase. Thus, our ability to pray and receive answers is a type of fruit. But I also think that more fruit comes as a result of our prayers. G. Campbell Morgan suggests that the verse should be understood this way: “I chose you in order to bear fruit, and in order that you may do so I chose you to ask, and so to get in touch with God, that fruit may abound.” And so, I think that answered prayer is a type of fruit, and prayer itself is a means of more fruit. R. A. Torry and E. M. Bounds have some things to say about obedience and prayer. R. A. Torry said, “If we would have power in prayer, we must be earnest students of His Word to find out what His will regarding us is, and then having found it do it. One unconfessed act of disobedience on our part will shut the ear of God against many petitions.” E. M. Bounds has said, “An obedient life helps prayer. It speeds prayer to the throne…Our Lord Jesus Christ, ‘holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners,’ had full liberty of approach and ready access to God in prayer. And He had this free and full access because of His unquestioning obedience to His Father.” The Bible says, “Whatsoever we ask we receive because we keep His commands and do those things that are pleasing in His sight” (1 Jn. 3:22). The last of obedience is the most important. 6. By our obedience the Father is glorified in the Son. In John 15:7-8 Jesus said, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” Here Jesus tells us that if we abide in Him (which includes our obedience to Him), we will receive answers to our prayers. In verse 8 Jesus said, “By this My Father is glorified…” The word “this” means that when you abide and obey, and when your prayers are answered, then He will be glorified. Secondly if we obey God's Word we will be blessed in many ways. a. If we follow the Lord's commands, we will be blessed with financial prosperity ( Dt. 28:11 ). b. If we follow the Lord's commands, we will be blessed with success ( Josh. 1:8 ). c. If we follow the Lord's commands, we will be blessed with long life ( Dt. 4:40; 5:33; Prov. 10:27 ). d. If we follow the Lord's commands, we will be blessed with eternal life ( Jn. 5:24 ). The next phrase gives us the reason why He is glorified. It is “that,” or because in abiding and obeying and in having your prayers answered “you bear much fruit.” Therefore, the Father is glorified by our obedience; but it isn’t in our obedience alone that He is glorified. No, He is glorified by our obedience because our obedience causes us to bear much fruit. #Happy_Sunday |
