Some group of students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso and Osogbo campuses, have appealed to Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun and his Oyo state counterpart, Abiola Ajimobi, to reopen the institution. The convener of the group, Mr Eze Raymond, made the call on Friday in Osogbo in statement made available to newsmen. He described the closure of the university due to nonpayment of salaries of the lecturers as `unfortunate.’ He appealed to stakeholders in the education sector to prevail on the two governors to reopen the university Raymond also appealed to Gov. Aregbesola to pay the 12 months salary arrears government owed the lecturers. He appealed to Gov. Ajimobi to settle the 6 months salary arrears Oyo government owed the lecturers He urged the governors to pay the Earned Academic Allowance of the lecturers, which they claimed was paid last in 2012 “We urge the two governors to settle our lecturers to enable our university reopen for the harmattan semester examination. “Programme that should ordinarily complete in five years is being delayed to seven years due to incessant strike occasioned by the inability of the government to pay workers salary. “We appeal to all stakeholders in the education sector to intervene. “We also appeal to the two governors to come together and find urgent solution to the issues that led to the closure of the university” he said. The university is jointly owned and financed by Osun and Oyo state governments.

The Nigerian Army on Friday stated that 19 of its soldiers and three members of the Civilian JTF who were returning from a clearance operation of Boko Haram terrorists camps in a village in Borno, suffered gunshot injuries after they ran into an ambush and engaged in a gunfight with the terrorists. An unspecified number of the terrorists which military sources put at 30 and 40 were killed while several others ran into the bush with their blood stains littering the escape routes of the terrorists. Many soldiers and some members of Civilian JTF are however said to be missing in action (MIA) following the bloody battle prompting the Army authorities to send re-enforcements to go for rescue operations of those that may still be alive. A statement from Army headquarters confirming the development, signed by Col Sani Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations said, “Today (Thursday) morning, troops on clearance patrol at Guro Gongon village and environs to rout out remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hibernating therein, destroyed the terrorists’ makeshift camps and recovered quite a number of weapons, equipment and foodstuff in the process. “The recovered items include 1 Gun truck mounted with an Anti-Aircraft Gun, a MOWAG Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade Tube, 1 Light Machine Gun, 3 AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.” “However, the gallant soldiers basking on the recorded success, returning to their defensive locations, ran into an ambush by a group of Boko Haram terrorists who came to reinforce their fleeing comrades. “The troops fought back gallantly killing several of the insurgents. “Sadly however, 19 soldiers and 3 civilian JTF members were wounded in action while a few others were missing in action. *Finland is ranked No.1 in the world in Education. What’s so great there!* • A child goes to school there only at the age of 7. The torture does not start at 2 ½ as it is elsewhere. *• A child learns from each move that it comes across in this early age at home.* • From the age of 7 to 10 the child spends 50% of it’s time in school and the remaining as vacation. *• The school timings are also less and equal importance is given to Music, Arts and Sports too* • The schools there have relaxation rooms for the children to take rest if they feel tired. *• Until the age of 13 there is no grading and no report cards for students.* • If their parents are inquisitive of the child’s progress they can apply to know that. *• Since there is no grading there is no pressure on the student to compete.* • They are not given homework. Students can do their homework in the subject of their choice. *• A doctor stationed in each school monitors their health and advices.* • Only a maximum of 600 students are permitted in a school. *• There aren’t any private schools. All are Govt. run. There is equality in education for all.* • 99% of children in Finland get primary education. *• Students who hail from a country where there aren’t exams excel in competitive exams elsewhere.* • You may wonder how this is possible. A UN research explains this….. *• UN does an annual research about the happiest children in the world. Finland stands first.* • Educationists from other countries flock to Finland to understand their system more. *• 1500 representatives from 56 countries go there every year.* • The country’s major foreign exchange comes from education tourism. *• A teachers job in Finland is highly valued .* • The teachers there have a major stake in the laws and policies of the country. *• Every third child there wants to become a teacher. But it’s not so easy.* • Only students who excel are considered for this post. *• They are given 5 years of Teacher Training, 6 months of Military training, One year of onsite teacher training, Training in the Laws and Policies, Fire service, Self Defense, First Aid.* *Thoughts to ponder:* • Don’t find fault in children. Don’t hesitate to appreciate when they do good. • No one knows what a child can become. Keep encouraging them. • Edison was considered dumb and thrown out of school. • Louis Pasteur was an average student in school. • Einstein was considered an idiot in school. • Talk to children daily about their goodness. • Don’t compare a child with another. • Talk about successful people to them. • Instead of telling them how not to be, just tell them about how to be. • Don’t curb them to the house • Give them good examples and independence. • If you talk to them about a bed of flower they’ll understand the path of thorns. • Tell them about hardwork. They will get to know about laziness. • When you tell them about successful people they will understand the reasons for failure. And for all this, we need a good governance. . |

Three Students From Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Michael. , Fawas And Rauf dodged exam because they did not read. They came up with a plan, got themselves dirty using grease then went to see the Dean. ”Sir we are sorry we couldn’t make it to the exam. After three days they went to the Dean very ready for the exam because they had studied. The Dean put them in 3 separate classes. There were only 4 QUESTION in the exam paper; 1. An alarming report released on Wednesday by UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, estimates that at least 250,000 children are at risk of malnourishment and death in... Borno State before the end of this year, and that 50,000 people may die. In response to the report, the Nigerian government said it was poised to launch a major intervention. “We are launching an intervention and a major, major initiative will take place soon,” presidential spokesman Femi Adesina told SaharaReporters.. The UNICEF report comes in the wake of numerous press statements and public events by Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima attempting to illustrate to the public how his government was addressing the humanitarian crisis. According to UNICEF, of the 244,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in the state this year, about 49,000 children—that is, about 1 in 5— will die if they do not receive treatment. It describes the scale of the humanitarian crisis as becoming more evident “as more areas in the northeast become accessible to humanitarian assistance.” The numbers have been derived from areas which were formerly being controlled by the Boko Haram terrorists.. Specifically asked what the federal government was doing to address the humanitarian crisis, Mr. Adesina, said: “A lot is happening now and much more will happen very soon,” and then alluded to the forthcoming “major” intervention. However, he refused to elaborate what the intervention would entail, or discuss timetables concerning when the public would learn the details of the plan to end the suffering of the children concerned. SaharaReporters attempted to contact Governor Shettima for comment on the UNICEF report but he was unavailable when our correspondent called. His spokesman, Isa Gusau, admitted “there is malnutrition, no doubt about that,” but added, “there has been no breakdown in coordination” between State, Federal, and international agencies. Mr. Gusau said that the Borno State government was “stepping up its feeding programs and increasing the presence of medical staff.” He added that there are 250 camps outside of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. The spokesman also said that Borno “is feeding three million people now and working with others [national and international groups]” in doing that. Mr. Adesina, in turn, also denied reports that there have been failures in humanitarian response leading to the malnourishment. Manuel Fontaine, the UNICEF Regional Director for Western and Central Africa, said “some 134 children on average will die every day from causes linked to acute malnutrition if the response is not scaled up quickly." Mr. Fontaine, who just returned from a visit to Borno State, further stated, "We need all partners and donors to step forward to prevent any more children from dying. No one can take on a crisis of this scale alone." One source, speaking anonymously to SaharaReporters, expressed skepticism about the UNICEF figures, speculating, “I believe they are seeking attention from donors.” saharareporters.com/2016/07/20/250000-children-serious-risk-borno-state-unicef-says |

Federal Government Monday,
cancelled the second test, otherwise
known as National Common Entrance
screening test conducted by the
National Examination Council
(NECO) for admission into Federal
Government Colleges. The cancellation is with effect from the 2017/2018 academic year. Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, announced the cancellation in a statement signed by the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Ben Bem Goong. On reasons for the cancellation, Adamu Adamu stated that the second test was an unnecessary additional financial burden on parents/guardians, describing it as unacceptable. The Minister said the era of multiple examinations attracting prohibitive fees could be accommodated by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, especially against the backdrop of government’s determination to increase access to education as a platform for breaking the cycle of poverty. The Minister therefore directed the National Examinations Council (NECO) to strengthen its examination processes with a view to achieving a quality and credible National Common Entrance Examination for admission into unity schools at the first test. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/fg-cancels--2nd-neco-test-unity-schools/ |
The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has claimed that the past IGP, Solomon Arase went away with 24 police vehicles upon retiring from service. In a statement made to journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, July 17, Mr. Idris said, “A week before I was announced IG when you look through my office window, you could see so many cars. But the cars all disappear we when I came in.” “When I took over, there were no vehicles. I discovered that the last IG went away with 24 vehicles, including two BMWs. The DIGs some took seven, others eight. And they left me with an old vehicle.” Mr. Idris said that he asked the former IG to return the excess cars. “So, I wrote to him and reminded him of the police rule. When a policeman retires as IG, DIG, AIG or CP, he is entitled to some vehicles. So, he should take his entitlement and return the extra. I believe four vehicles are enough for an average person. What does one need 24 vehicles for?” The new head of the Nigerian Police mentioned that he had created a special investigative unit that would look into all vehicles’ purchases in the last three years. Mr. Idris will also be investigating irregularities in promotion in the police force to ascertain if the Police Service Commission rules were followed to the letter. He was particularly determined to tackle the issue as he claimed he had been a victim of the promotion irregularities, recalling that he spent five years as Commissioner of Police, while some of his colleagues were made Assistant Inspector Generals (AIGs) with two years. “This is a constitutional issue,” he said. According to The Vanguard, a source close to Mr. Arase said the former IGP is “the embodiment of a professional officer who will not stoop so low to confiscate operational equipment which he fought for the police to have, into personal use” “In this era of anti-corruption crusade which Arase fought in the Police force in all ramifications,” he was quoted as saying, “how can the same Arase turn around to soil his integrity built over the years with operational vehicles.” At the press conference, Mr. Idris narrated an exchange which he had with the President who asked, “what I was doing with that kind of vehicle.” Describing the said vehicle, Mr. Idris said, “The headlight has changed colour, which means it was parked for long under the rain. But the new ones that were bought, including an Armoured BMW 7 series, he took them away.” Mr. Arase denied the allegation, describing it as a spiteful propaganda. He urged the acting IG to focus on confronting the security challenges facing the country instead of wasting time on “media propaganda.”’ According to The Punch, the former head of police was quoted as saying, “What am I going to do with 24 cars? Do I want to open a car shop? This is a malicious accusation. There are ways of verifying issues rather than engaging in media propaganda.” saharareporters.com/2016/07/18/former-igp-arase-stole-24-cars-idris

Many candidates have been asking questions on the kind of preparations they need ahead of their institutions' admission screening exercise. Like you already know, the screening as stipulated by JAMB will involve the verification of your documents and physical examination of the candidates. As we have always done, we would like to use this medium to bring you up to speed concerning what is expected of you in preparation towards the screening exercise of your institution. For the sake of clarity and emphasis, I would like to present them as bullet 1. Get Your O-level Results Ready: Candidates are expected to present copies of their O-level Certificates or Statement of Results obtained in not more than two sittings. Another thing you should know is that if it is up to four years you sat for your O-level examination, your institution will likely require you to present the Original Certificate of the O- level examination instead of statement of results because it is expected that your Original Certificate should be ready after four years. Therefore, if you sat for your O-level examination four years ago and beyond, it is advisable to go get your O- level Certificate(s) ready before the screening exercise of your institution. For those, whose O-level certificates are not yet available, they can present their statement of result. For such candidates, they may need to provide result checking scratch card (NECO, WAEC, NABTEB, as applicable). For candidates still waiting for the release of their results, you can go for the screening with your O-level registration slip. Concerning the combination of results, candidates can combine results even if it is from different examination bodies e.g WAEC and NECO. However, your institution may not allow you to combine NABTEB results with WAEC or NECO results. 2. Determine If You Have the Right Subjects For Your Course of Study: To study your course of study in any institution, you are required to have a minimum of 5 credit passes in the relevant O-level subjects. Many candidates are not sure if their O-level subjects tally with the course they intend to study. Each course of study has specific subjects a candidates must credit before he/she qualifies for admission in that particular course. Consult Google for that 3. Other documents you need To present: In addition to your O-level results, you are to present other documents which may include; i. Birth Certificate or Affidavit of Age Declaration ii. JAMB Original Result Slip. iii. Screening Registration Slip (for those that registered online) iv. Local Government of Origin (this can be obtained at your LGA Secretariat) 4. Physical examination: JAMB disclosed that candidates will equally be examined based on appearance to know if they are cultists or "future cultists". That sounds funny. I wonder how you can tell who is a cultist or who would likely be one just by looking at the person's face unless you are a fortune teller or a prophet. Be that as it may, candidates should ensure they dress formal to the screening exercise. Do not put on any thing that will may make you look irresponsible. If you have tattoos or piercings on your body, make sure they are removed or well covered before appearing for the screening. If you have additional questions concerning this, you can use the comment box to ask your questions. Good Luck Y'all |
