PoliticsSee LIST Of Countries President Buhari Has Visited So Far (chart) by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 7:53am On Apr 12, 2016
Many Nigerians will question why President Muhammadu Buhari has traveled to China as he just came back from the United States of America few days ago.

During Buhari’s last trip Ayo Fayose, the governor of the Ekiti state, has even claimed that the president is visiting conferences he doesn’t understand.

However, the presidency justified the trips, saying they were necessary to bring the country back on the track of development and growth. Findings show that President Buhari has since his inauguration in May last year visited 22 countries, some of them even for several times.

Buhari has attended South Africa for African Union Summit, G-7 meeting in Germany, UN General Assembly in USA, Climate Change Summit in France, GECF Summit in Iran, Commonwealth Summit in Malta and India- African Forum. The president has spent a one week-long vacation in London UK in February, while Yemi Osinbajo, his vice was presiding over country’s affairs.

See full list of countries below:
1. Niger Republic (June 2015)
2. Chad (June 2015)
3. Germany (June 2015)
4. South Africa (June 2015, December 2015)
5. USA (July, September 2015, March 2016)
6. Cameroon (July 2015)

18. Egypt (February 2016)
19. Saudi Arabia (February 2016)
20. Qatar (February 2016)
21. Equatorial Guinea
22. China

Nigerian leader is currently in China and is expected back in the country during the next weekend. By the time the President Buhari returns Nigeria, he would have spent a total of 249 hours on air during all his trips. Femi Adesina, Buhari’s spokesman clarifying the reason for the visit to China, said the trip aims at securing greater support from Beijing for the development of Nigeria’s infrastructure such as power, roads, railways, aviation, water supply and housing.

CrimeMissing Mother Who Went On A Date With A Man She Met Online Found Dead (photo) by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 7:36am On Apr 12, 2016
A 40 year old Seattle mother of 3, Ingrid Lyne, who met a man online, John Charlton went missing on Friday. Lyne was last seen leaving her home to attend the Seattle Mariners opening game on Friday but never went back home. Her friends raised the alarm and contacted the Police when she didn’t pick up her children the next morning. Her friends searched for her, called her phone several times but there was no answer.

Police desperately searched for Lyne who worked as a Nurse, after the reports was made, they went to her home, checked her computer to see who she chatted with before she left. Her phone and purse were at home but her car, a gray 2015 Toyota Highlander was missing. They went through her phone and that was how they discovered that the last person she chatted with was John Charlton.

However her remains, which included a foot, and two other body parts were found in a bin on Friday night and on Saturday afternoon in a neighborhood about 2.7miles away from Safeco Stadium, where she was supposed to go watch the baseball game with this ‘date’, an officer said.

A Seattle homeowner found the packages at 4pm on Saturday, and called 911. Detective Patrick Michaud told reporters on the weekend that homicide detectives and medical examiners confirmed the homeowner’s initial suspicions that the packages included human remains. He did not say how the body parts were packaged, and what raised the homeowner’s alarm.

PetsSnake Born With Two Heads Found In The USA (photo) by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 9:24pm On Apr 11, 2016
A snake with two heads has been captured in the USA by 42 year old Jason Talbott, who found the snake living in the wild, before photographing it and taking it into captivity. Although it looks a bit beastly, the snake is harmless and Jason admitted that its bite would not be enough to break a human’s skin.

Jason said: ‘It is estimated that it is 1 in 10,000 but it is hard to know a true number as they are wild and elusive animals and survival rate is very low. ‘I’m a massive fan of creepy crawlies and snakes – I’ve photographed hundreds of them and received a fair few bites along the way. Fortunately they were non-venomous ones. ‘The snake had been found by a few of my friends in the wild and when I heard about it, I jumped at the opportunity to get some photos. ‘What was funny about the snake was that the two-heads had different personalities. One of the heads was very aggressive and kept trying to bite at objects.

‘But the problem was, because they both shared the same body, the aggressive head needed the other one’s cooperation to move. It was quite funny to watch, really.’

HealthPlease You Need To Know These About Onion And Save Life by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 5:50pm On Apr 10, 2016
Read this. Very useful to absorb bacterials around , and dangerous for a left over.

ONIONS : PLEASE READ TO THE END: IMPORTANT

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill... I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs. ..sure enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

This is the other note.

Lots of times when we have stomach problems we don't know what to blame. Maybe it's the onions that are to blame. Onions ABSORB BACTERIA is the reason they are so good at preventing us from getting colds and flu and is the very reason we should NOT eat an onion that has been sitting for a time after it has been cut open.

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS
when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). It's probably the ONIONS, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!). If you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS DANGEROUS TO CUT AN ONION AND TRY TO SAVE IT TO COOK WITH THE NEXT DAY, IT BECOMES HIGHLY POISONOUSFOR EVEN A SINGLE NIGHT - AS IT CREATES TOXIC BACTERIA WHICH CAUSES ADVERSE STOMACH INFECTIONS BECAUSE OF EXCESS BILE SECRETIONS AND EVEN FOOD POISONING.

Please pass this to all the people whom you love and care about.

PoliticsCharlyboy Writes Open Letter To Buhari (must Read) by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 12:57am On Mar 31, 2016
My dear Presido„

I trust you are not letting the rot and the decay you met in the system overwhelm you. I was filled with expectation when you emerged winner. I prayed that you would be a catalyst in redirecting our drifting country; because many things spoil no be small..
I can’t say that I was too trilled with some of your selections for the ministerial posts, but I suspected you had a good reason for most of the choice you made. Your campaign was about change, which I hoped was all-encompassing- change in our mindset, our attitude to work, and above all, not business as usual.

It is based on one of your outstanding ministerial selections that I write this personal letter to you.

My Presido, please tell all them brown nosed praise singers, called politicians to hands off meddling and interrupting the flow of our Honorable Minister of Petroleum. Dr Ibe Kachikwu. We are all aware of the plots, nonsensical, local and ethnic intrigues called politics being thrown up to tamper with Ibe Kachikwu’s position. I warn that a stop must be put to this. We all know that corruption is fighting back the war against corruption. With the changes I have seen in NNPC and my personal interaction with this outstanding Nigerian of great repute, a humble, brilliant, intelligent and an outstanding scholar; one of the few patriots in your cabinet, it will be a disaster if we lose him. You know this is no lie. While I don’t want to tow the line of ethnic or tribal propaganda, those claiming that this call for Kachikwu’s sack is entirely an ethnic proclivity may not be far from the truth, going by precedence we all know. At this stage and age of our democracy, such childish tendencies and immaturity ought to be dealt away with, if we all truly hold the interest of this nation dear. These useless yahoo yahoo leaders should desist from their frivolous, devisive, tribal, and ethnic politics and allow him do his job basically..
As a result of corruption, we have found round pegs in square holes; because of corruption, thieves and criminals took over leadership and because of corruption, our economy is in this mess. Even with your fight Sai Baba, you can see that winning the battle against corruption is not an easy one; it is worse than BokoHaram. It is clear that most of the people responsible for our economic woes are fighting back, not knowing what you may do next. In my opinion, this is one of the ways they’re putting up the fight: they want to rid your government of the few who can make visible impact in a system that has hitherto been jeopardized.

These unscrupulous elements must not be allowed to find you predictable, they must not be able to hold you hostage in your own administration, they must not turn you to a mere stooge as it was the case in Nigeria in not too distant past. You no be zombie. Let those who know the job be allowed to do it or else, I will be forced to mobilize 2,000,000 protesters to march against this useless agitation.

Enough is enough, you are the President, please take charge. What you decide to do next will determine, to a great extent, how this Naija ship is steered. We are all watching, and waiting. Thank you Your Excellency, for reading. Best Regards,

Charles ‘CharlyBoy’ Oputa.

CrimeSee Shocking Amount Federal Government Loses To Cybercrimes Annually by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 12:39am On Mar 31, 2016
A new information has revealed the whoopping
amount of money Nigeria losses to cybercrime
which has in one way or the other crumbled the
economy.

Nigeria loses about N89.55bn ($450m) annually
to computer and internet-related frauds;
consultant to National Information Technology
Development Agency, Mr. Abdul-Hakeem
Ajijola, has said.

Ajijola said this in an opening remark at the
NITDA Public Sector Cyber Security Hands
Capacity Building Workshop for IT officers in
Ministries, Departments and Agencies organised
by NITDA which opened in Abuja on
Wednesday.

Quoting the United States Centre for Strategic
and International Studies and information
security firm McAfee, a subsidiary of Intel which
puts Nigeria’s loses to cybercrime at 0.08 per
cent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product,
Ajijola said the country’s annual losses to
cybercrimes was equivalent to the its booming
cement industry.

He said, “As technology becomes increasingly
pervasive and our dependency on it grows, our
economic losses will grow exponentially unless
pre-emptive measures are taken to mitigate and
eliminate the capacity of cybercriminals to take
advantage of our environment.

“This does not preclude major disruptions by
cybercriminals to critical national infrastructure
like oil and gas; telecommunications; banking
and finance, national security and government.
For example, in January 2016 the infamous
“Anonymous hacker collective has started a
cyber-campaign against the government of
Nigeria, accusing it of corruption, greed, and
theft.

“The Nigerian Communications Commission
indicates that, as at September 2015, over 97
million Nigerians used the Internet on a daily
basis. According to a 2015 survey by
Kaspersky Lab, 45.3 per cent of the internet
users in Nigeria suffered attack in the third
quarter of 2015. By implication either you or the
person next to you was hacked in some way.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Director
General of NITDA, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, said
Nigeria, like other countries, was facing many
challenges such as network design, security,
and prevention, as well as cyber-attacks as a
result of increasing use of the internet.

“The need for effective security measures to
create trust and confidence in our various
platforms can therefore not be
overemphasised,” he added.

Science/TechnologyRe: Meet Alagba, A 330-Year-Old Tortoise Found In Ogbomoso, Oyo State (Pics) by ADEWUMIMichael(m): 12:33am On Mar 31, 2016
A palace source said for a long time since its existence, Alagba was the only being that the king‘s wives may run to for refuge to avoid the anger of their husband. ”Whatever might have been the sacrilege of such a woman, the kabiyesi overlooks it if she runs to Alagba for protection,” she says. There are also myths that allege that it is a particular oba that had become so old that turned himself to Alagba during a festival in the palace. Kayode says looking at the body cells and carapace (shell) of Alagba can help determine its true age. ”The carapace is laid on yearly and its ornamentation can help determine the age of the tortoise,” he said. He was however doubtful of the possibility of any expert in the country undertaking a venture to determine Alagba‘s true age since it would be of no economic value. When Alabi took our correspondent to Alagba for introduction, he called the being twice saying, ”Alagba, Alagba, you have a visitor.” He spoke Yoruba. The ancient one slowly opened one of its eyes and brought out its neck full of age, spots and thick rough warts. Slowly, it retreated into its thick shell and went back to sleep, its thoughts as mysterious as its age. However, Mr. Akinwande Kayode, a lecturer in the Department of Zoology, University of Lagos, Akoka, doubted the veracity of the claims about Alagba‘s age. ”It is not scientific. It is oral evidence and there is no scientific evidence to support it,” he says. He however states that tortoises generally live longer than other animals and that this is possible because of their link with the dinosaurs. ”Tortoise and turtle belong to the order Chelonians and they are the only living representatives of the order Chelonians which have a close link to the dinosaurs and dinosaurs as ancient animals lived for very long – up to 400 years – and they had enormous size,” he says. According to Whyzz.com, an online question and answer site on the Internet, most tortoises do not pass 100, some have been known to live well past that marker and have lived as long as 200 to 250 years. The site gave the reason why tortoises are able to live so long as having a lot to do with how they‘re built and how they live ”Because they are protected by a strong hard shell, tortoises are good at avoiding predators. Tortoises also live and move slowly, which means they use up less energy than lots of other creatures. – If a tortoise is unable to find enough food, they can survive for longer on less more easily than animals who burn through their energy really quickly.” In March 2006, it was reported that an Aldabra tortoise at the Calcutta Zoo died and was estimated to be 250 years old. A Madagascar radiated tortoise was said to have lived in captivity to at least 188 years. Similarly, a 176- year-old giant tortoise from an Australian Zoo died in June, 2006. Typically, the Galapagos tortoise lives 150 years. Other varieties regularly live to be 100.
Science/TechnologyRe: Meet Alagba, A 330-Year-Old Tortoise Found In Ogbomoso, Oyo State (Pics) by ADEWUMIMichael(m): 12:30am On Mar 31, 2016
Tourism is not complete in Oyo State without a reference to Alagba – a giant male land tortoise believed to have lived in the palace of the king of Ogbomoso for 324 years. EMMANUEL ONYECHE, who visited the palace recently, examines the age issue of this ancient animal and the myths woven around it. THE primeval town of Ogbomoso, the second largest city in Oyo State, has an ancient resident – a giant male land tortoise, which is acclaimed to have lived in the palace of the Soun (the king) of Ogbomosoland for 324 years. In deference to its age, it is called Alagba, which means ”the elderly one” in Yoruba. And, in Ogbomoso, where the legendary tortoise lumbers about in the palatial grounds of the king, it is almost a sacrilege to refer to Alagba as a mere tortoise. Since Alagba is believed to be older than everyone in Ogbomoso, permutations about its true age relies heavily on oral history. Its present age was arrived at by situating it with the period of the Soun who reigned then. Alagba was allegedly brought to the palace by Soun Ikumoyede Ajao, the third Soun of Ogbomoso, who is believed to have been born sometime in the late 16th century and who reigned in the 17th. Mr. Ajamu Oluwatoyin, the secretary of the current Soun says dating of the kingship of Ogbomoso was started by the elite in 1797 during the reign of Oba Toyeje Akanni (1797 to 1825), the fourth Soun and one time Are Ona Kakanfo (the Yoruba Nation Generalissimo). Since it was customary in those days to transfer the property and all palace belongings to the new monarch, Alagba had allegedly remained in the palace till date. According to IBKay‘s blog on the Internet, the reigning Oba Oladunni Oyewunmi, Ajangungbade III, the 20th Soun, who has been reigning since 1974, confirmed that he knew the tortoise while he was a child-prince. Mr. Adeniyi Alabi, Kakaki Oba (the oba‘s praise singer) and Mr. Adeyanju Areo, who used to carry the umbrella that shields the oba from the sun, also carry out the oba‘s instructions to take care of Alagba. They say the animal drinks water once in two weeks and that when it does, it finishes a 25-litre bucket. Alagba is said to eat everything that human beings eat but likes pawpaw particularly. It is said to detest heat and plays a lot in the rainy season. Alabi and Areo put Alagba‘s weight at approximately 100kg since, according to them, its weight is equivalent to two bags of cement and it requires four men to lift it up. ”No matter how heavy you are, Alagba will carry you on its back and be moving about,” Areo says and adds that the incumbent oba, who cares so much about the well-being of Alagba, was the one that stopped people from climbing the back of the animal as the animal was getting old. Mr. Muphtau Owolabi, the police orderly to the oba said three years ago, Alagba was sick and required surgery on its neck. Doctors put its survival chances at 50 per cent. The oba was said to have not permitted the surgery and Alagba later recovered. Like some items in African traditional palaces that exist for mystical purposes, Areo says Alagba‘s existence in the palace has no such inclination. ”Alagba is just an aged animal that is well taken care of by the kabiyesi. There are vet doctors that attend to it and they give us drugs that we put in the water it drinks and the food it eats”, Areo says. Nevertheless, all sorts of myths have been woven around Alagba. ”It hears what people say though it cannot speak,” Alabi says. ”It recognises kabiyesi‘s voice. If kabiyesi calls it Alagba, it will be shaking its head in agreement. Some people also stay near Alagba to offer prayers for longevity.”

HealthUnbelievable !!! What Happen To This Man Will Shock You (photo) by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 10:45pm On Mar 29, 2016
A man has miraculously survived three days
inside the belly of a whale after he went
missing at sea and was thought to have
drowned.

Luigi Marquez was swallowed up by a whale
The Spanish fisherman identified as Luigi
Marquez, was initially believed to have drowned
at sea but he miraculously reappeared several
days later after he went overboard during a
violent storm off the coast of Spain last week.
According to World News Daily Report, the 56-
year-old fisherman was lost at sea and believed
to be dead after Spanish coastal guards found
no living sign of him after days of research.

“This is truly a miracle! Saint Mary of Jesus has
heard our prayers” his wife, Penelope Marquez,
told local reporters. “I prayed and I prayed and I
never lost faith, and the Lord has brought me
back my precious Luigi”

Although the man’s survival story is already
spectacular enough, the fisherman claims he
was swallowed by a whale in which he stayed
for three days and three nights, reminiscent of
the story of Jonah in the bible.
“This great beast swallowed me the morning
after the storm,” he told local reporters . “It is
the most frightening thing I have ever lived.
Everything was pitch black and I was shivering
cold.

“The only thing that kept me alive where the
raw fish I ate and the light from my waterproof
watch, that is how I kept in touch with time.
And the smell, I will never forget that horrible
stench of putrid decomposition. I had to wash
for three days before the odor went away.”
The man showed reporters how he ingeniously
turned his trousers into a safety vest, thus
saving his life
The man says he was “flushed away” nearly 72
hours after being swallowed up by the beast.
“It is not the first time in human history that
such stories arise” explains marine biologist
Juan Cristobal Miguel, at the University of San
Petrina. “Only last year, two scuba divers off
the coast of Portugal lived the same story after
being accidentally swallowed by a blue whale.
Fortunately, they were immediately expelled of
the giant mammal’s body.

“It is surely extraordinary that this man survived
in the belly of a blue whale for so long, he is
obviously a very sturdy man and extremely
lucky,”

The blue whale, which is the largest animal ever
known to have lived, feeds almost exclusively
on krill and can eat up to 40 million krill in a
day. Although their sheer size is impressive,
they are of no threat to human beings, admit
experts.

CrimeYoung Boy Sues His Parents For $2m For Being Born With Red Hair (photos) by ADEWUMIMichael(op):
A young boy has taken his parents to face the
law, suing them for having him born into the
world with red hair which has allegedly caused
him discomfort.

Liam Murphy, the redhead teenage boy
launched a controversial lawsuit against his
parents, for not preventing his birth, even if
they were aware the high probability of his hair
being red.

The 13-year old boy filed a “Wrongful Life”
lawsuit against his red haired parents, alleging
that they knew their children would very likely
inherit this undesirable trait. He claims that
they caused him a “voluntary prejudice” by
giving life to him, knowning that he would be
born into a life of pain and suffering.

He is demanding the incredible amount of
$1.35 million in “pain and suffering”, that is,
monetary compensation for the entire
experience of having a disabled life versus
having a healthy mind and body, as well as
$800 000 in “loss of enjoyment of life”.

“My life is a torture!” the young boy told the
press outside the courthouse. “I keep being told
that I have no soul or that I am from an
endangered species. People keep calling me
Carrottop, Strawberry Shortcake or Ginger
Freak, and all of that is my parents’ fault! They
knew they were offering me a life of misery, and
they selfishly decided to have children
anyways.”

Liam Murphy’s lawyer, James Franklin
O’connor, told reporters that his client’s claim
is “incredibly conservative considering the
situation”, and says he is confident about the
upcoming trial.

“My client was intentionally exposed to a life of
rejection and bullying by his parents,” said Mr
O’Connor. “Many scientific studies have proven
the social difficulties suffered by people with red
hair, but this couple who had suffered from it
themselves, consciously decided to expose their
children to the same thing.”
Liam’ parents, Larry and Theresa Murphy, say
they don’t understand why the oldest of their
three children is suing them.

Liam’s parents, however, have a very different
perspective on the question, saying that “God
gave him red hair”, not them, and that he
should “be happy to be alive”.
“Both my wife and I have red hair, and it never
stopped us from being happy,” the boy’s father
told reporters. “God has created me the way I
am, and I not ashamed of his creation.
“Some mean kids at school have started
bullying Liam over the last few years, and we
tried to help him solve the problem. But now,
some lawyer has convinced my son that it was
actually our fault if others were picking on him,
and he’s suing us for millions. It’s completely
ridiculous! We’ve done nothing wrong.

“And seriously, I’m an electrician and my wife
is a hairdresser…where does he expect us to
find two million dollars?”
In recent years, a few “Wrongful Life” lawsuits
have generated financial compensations of up to
$20 millions for some children, but these were
for plaintiffs born with heavy disabilities or
debilitating diseases.

This is the first time that such a claim is filed
concerning a physical trait, and could therefore
become a legal precedent for future cases.
Both parties will return to court on April 12 for
the beginning of the trial, which is expected to
attract a lot of attention from the media.
A 2014 study from the University College Cork
did showed that redheads are “more likely to be
bullied” than others and concluded that
“bullying of gingers” is “one of the last socially
accepted forms of prejudice against people for a
trait they were born with”.

The results showed 60.6% of males and 47.3%
of females with red hair said that they had
suffered “some kind of discrimination in the
past due to their hair colour”.

Even the British royal Prince Harry admitted to
CBS in 2014, that he has been regularly bullied
over his ginger locks in the past, and has
sought counselling about it.

EducationJamb Should Be Scrapped Now - See Reason by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 1:43pm On Mar 27, 2016
See some reasons why Jamb should be scraped and Not...

It should be reviewed UTME should not be totally stopped, rather it should be reviewed. Many candidates are complaining about the examination and I think JAMB should listen to their complaints. Scrapping JAMB is not the best option for our nation, especially at this time when it is battling with many issues. — Tobi Bajo

UTME is irrelevant I think JAMB should be scrapped; it has outlived its usefulness and the UTME is no longer relevant. But another body needs to be established. There has to be an external examination that would serve as criteria to judge the knowledge of candidates before they gain admission into the university. — Ope Akinyemi

Overhaul education sector JAMB has become computerised which I think is a good thing. Scrapping it won’t be a good idea, there won’t be any medium to test candidates’ knowledge. I will advise that the government fights corruption in the education sector. — Aloysius Adawai

Scrapping JAMB good JAMB should be scrapped. There are billions of youths whose lives have been put on hold because they are yet to pass the UTME. Universities should be the one to test candidates’ knowledge. — Victoria Damisa

No need retaining it I think JAMB should be scrapped. There is no need retaining the body again since it is no longer useful. For instance, when five million candidates register to take the UTME, only a million may pass which is unrealistic. How can four million candidates fail the UTME? Admission seekers even prefer taking post- UTME rather than the UTME. — Emmanuel Onu

JAMB didn’t prepare for 2016 UTME I want JAMB to be scrapped. The post-UTME has rendered their operations useless. Since the inception of the board, there has never such controversy like it was witnessed this year. The board is not fully prepared for the CBT. It should have approached it gradually rather than the sudden method it adopted. The 2016 UTME exercise was not freely, fairly and credibly conducted in a peaceful atmosphere. Candidates encountered many problems during the examination. Also, the low level of preparedness on the part of JAMB made many of the candidates to lose hope, trust and confidence in it. — Ganiyu Kehinde.

Scrapping JAMB best option I strongly support the scrapping of the board. The result that was allocated to many of the candidates this year did not correspond with what they did in the examination. Results were sent twice to some candidates and when they checked the results online, the results changed. Many did not even see their results. There were many irregularities in the conduct of the examination. Some candidates are also kicking against the position of the House of Representatives that JAMB should revert to the paper-pencil test. I think those kicking are the lucky ones who got a 40 bonus mark each to the detriment of other hapless candidates. The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, should immediately find a solution to the plight of candidates who failed the examination because of the ineptitude of the board. It will be better if the examination is re-conducted to create a level playing field for everybody. _Mich Adewumi

EducationSee The Alleged Reason Many JAMB Candidates Failed 2016 UTME by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 8:36pm On Mar 24, 2016
The president of Association of Tutorial School Operators, Mr Shodunke Oludotun has stated that the reason many candidates failed the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was due to the fact that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) used the wrong software to mark the exam.

According to him, JAMB used the software for 2015 exam to grade the students in 2016.

Mr Shodunke who equally called for the resignation of the JAMB Boss, Professor Dibu Ojerinde stated that there is evidence that virtually all the results of candidates they have collected bear 2015/2016 and not 2016/2017 which it was suppose to be.

He stressed that from their findings, it was revealed that the software of 2015/2016 interfered with the 2016/2017, which led to the massive failure of the students.

He said they were not against the use of the Computer Based Test (CBT) but said it was full of irregularities which led to the mass failure of candidates.

EducationOnly 400,000 UTME Candidates Will Gain Admission Into Universities– NUC by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 8:50am On Mar 24, 2016
Report reaching us has it that out of the 1.5
million candidates that sit for the 2016 Unified
Tertiary Matriculation Examination, only
400,000 candidates will gain admission to
Nigerian universities.

The National Universities Commission (NUC)
Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie, said
this when Edo State Governor Adams
Oshiomhole visited the commission on
Wednesday in Abuja.

Oshiomhole was at NUC to collect the
Certificate of Recognition for the new Edo State
University, Iyanmo.

Okojie said new universities were needed to
boost access to higher education while
making sure that quality was not
compromised.

He said, “I am always happy when a new
university comes on board; what that means
is that we are expanding and we are opening
up access.

“We know the number of candidates that sit
for UTME organised by the Joint Admissions
and Matriculation Board every year.

“However, out of the 1.5 million candidates
who take UTME every year, we are barely able
to make provision for only about 400,000
students.

“The new university will, therefore, be
accessible not only to candidates from Edo
State but those from Ondo State and other
states.”

According to the executive secretary, the Edo
State University, has become the 41st state
university and the 142nd university in Nigeria.
