Politics / Re: Chinua Achebe Is Ignorant Of The Situation In Nigeria - GEJ by adigun101: 10:44pm On Nov 14, 2011
Some times some of u have to read before leaping to conclusions.
GEJ never used the word ignorant.
This was due to the stupidity of the @OP.
He just expressed surprise that achebe thinks that the situation in Nigeria is still same as the first time he turned down the awards.

As at the time , anambra was a war zone and PDP was in power.
Today that is not the case.
Even a keenly contested senatorial election in his own senatorial zone was between Chris Ngige on ACN and Dora Akunyilu of APGA with PDP nowhere in sight.
At the end the right candidate won.

A lot has changed , Jega put in a lot of effort , let us be honest.

Politics / Re: Soludo Should Be In Jail, Says Finance Minister by adigun101: 3:31pm On Jan 23, 2011
When will our office holders especially those in sensitive offices like the finance minister and CBN governor learn not to politisise or personalise things ?
The concerns raised by Soludo are valid and got nothing to do with is person.

The Economy is Going Down, Soludo Warns – Thisday
Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has warned that if pre-emptive measures are not taken now, Nigeria’s economy is “doomed” to a worse form of structural adjustment programme (SAP) and “something will have to give”.
In an exclusive essay published in THISDAY today, Soludo, who also ran for governorship election in Anambra State in March, challenged presidential aspirants to debate economic issues before the general election.
Soludo expressed concern that the government had been piling up domestic and foreign debts with no improvement in the economy.
He wrote: “In spite of the heavy external debt of $34 billion and oil prices ranging between $25- $50 during the (ex-President Olusegun) Obasanjo’s second term, we managed to grow the economy at about 6-7 per cent per annum (from average of 2.8 per cent in the 1990s). We started saving for the rainy day when oil prices reached $35 and by 2007, despite paying $12 billion to write off the Paris Club debt in 2006, we had saved about $22 billion as ‘Excess Crude’.
“In the last few years, oil prices have averaged $70 to $85 per barrel. What has happened? We have spent the $22 billion saved under Obasanjo, and now massively borrowing at an alarming rate (domestically and externally) during a period of unprecedented oil price boom, and yet the economy remains static at 6-7% growth rate. Recurrent expenditure of the public sector has more than doubled since 2004, leaving very little for investment.”

Refering to the highlighted questions raised by Soludo, I personally would prefer answers to these questions, rather than resorting to personal attacks and assasinations.

Anambra has always been a very unlucky state.

Obi is now the best they've ever produced. embarassed

Continue langushing in your mediocrity.

Do you know how many Anambranians lodge and now live at Asaba because of the state of Anambra state?

This is the kind of thing you will never see in Yorubaland.
You dont get governors of Obis acheivements being generally lauded by a sizable number of people.
This is not to say that they do not exist there.

WHAT A SHAME !!

A very retrogressive, embarassing and childish statement to make. All Nigerians should be able to contest for election. Turn by turn presidency is not enshrined in the constitution.
I was just trying to highlight that the present quality of leadership in the SE is very poor compared to other geo-political regions.

That is not to say it has always been like that or will it continue that way.

And with the likes of Obi calibre in the SE, I call on my Igbo brothers to support a south-south canditdate for the presidency come 2015. wink

MEND example is poor, why? undecided

That the bank doctored their books is not a matter of Sanusi's opinion, but of the data from the EDW, the stock market, results of the audit etc or are all these based on Sanusi's opinions as well? The facts are there for all to see. Sanusi's personal opinion will not change the facts.

Its just funny that you feel a confession is needed to establish the truth

BTW the executives doctored their books! grin

Although I wont say I fully understand the highlighted but you need to be careful because "Doctoring of books" is a matter of Conjecture.

I say so because it is common knowledge the account balancing and book keeping is a matter of declaring you assets/earnings against your liabilities/expenditure. Now the interpretation of a non-performing loan is also based on interpretation.

Even as we haven't the details on whet the extent of doctoring was. The EDW was always paid back by the banks and wasn't open indefinitely as you making it sound the issue I beleive you are talking about was the level of indebtedness as a ratio of the banks total capital.
Borrowing money from EDW is not a problem on its own but might indicate liquidity problems.
But that was why the EDW was created by Soludo in the first place.

The results of the audits were based on sanusis interpretation and is still being disputed by the likes of PHB and Oceanic Banks.

All banks with investment operations are exposed to the stock market crash even if they had done it in Europe, Asia or US. So I dont know what you mean when you say stock market.
Politics / Re: Gov Peter Obi Sworn In For Second Term In Awka Anambra State by adigun101: 1:32pm On Mar 18, 2010
Congrats to Obi.

But I dont see why his joy should be that of the masses.

He hasn't made any notable change in four years.

Not even one legacy.

If Lagos can produce Fashola and this is the best the south-east can produce then it would be in the interest of Nigeria if Igbos do not come near Aso rock come 2015

I think the south-south are more ready.

Politics / Re: Cbn Job: Soludo Vs Sanusi Approach (Vote) by adigun101: 1:26am On Feb 14, 2010
I dont see the point in attacking Sanusi.
It is his central bank now.
I am glad that the FG has asked him to present his plans so that everyone knows his strategy and the path he wants to steer the banking industry.
I wasn't comfortable with the way he came out with a new plan everyday with seemingly no end.
We need some stability in the banking sector so that we know what is working and what is not.
I do not want a situation where people are still blaming the previous administration of the CBN for the banking woes.
Let us see his strategy work.
For now it is not working but I guess it is too early to judge.
Politics / Re: Obi: Apga Targets Take-over Of S-east States by adigun101: 12:29am On Feb 10, 2010
The problem with Nigeria is not only PDP but our ruling class.
What you guys are clamouring for have been experienced in the SW.
Ask what happened to AD.
The fact that they were a regional party did not make the governors perform.
Obi of APGA has so far not performed !
He has been outperformed by Chime and Uduaghan of PDP in neighboring states.
Even the likes of Amaechi and Donald duke are all PDP.
You guys need to ask serious questions instead of being carried away by sentiments.

I am a supporter of Peter Obi so it goes to show u that Igbos of Anambra vote with clear intelligence and understanding not like zombies. Bros, so you go Ife?
Bros we beg to differ.
Stop bringing unnecessary sentiments to this issue.if a president fails to handover power while going on a sick leave and people like you or the hired crowd can find reason to defend something as glaring as the emboldened, then this country has no future.
We know the antecedents of the organisers of the "protest".We can't be fooled any further.
How we descended into this Hobesian state is in part due to people like you who cannot see truth and defend it.For all we care,Yar Adua being sick is not the issue. The issue is the due process which the said Yar adua has been lip-servicing  from day one as president  is not being followed,to the ridiculous extent of
a)nigerians not knowing the whereabouts of their president
b)a leadership vacuum being created as a result of the said "medical treatment " which by the way has spiralled to close to 80 days.

The protesters never said they were in support of yar' aduas actions.
They only said that they wish him a speedy recovery.
And that the everyone should join hands to ensure that the situation is resolved constitutionally.
They never said that power should't be handed over to  the VP either.

Please READ the Original Post (without bias) and come back with statements you can credit to the demonstrators that are out of line.
Politics / Re: Support Rally For Yardua by adigun101: 4:43pm On Feb 05, 2010

Hundreds of youths stormed the National Assembly yesterday in solidarity with ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua who has now been out of Nigeria for 75 days.

I don't see anything wrong with that !
His sin is that he did not hand over to his vice
He hasn't commited any crime for being sick.

Led by Emeka Okoroji, the group went into prayer session for the quick recovery of the president and his return to continue governing the nation.

Okoroji, while addressing the youths, said that the precarious state of polity in Nigeria occasioned by the absence of the president must not be allowed to give way to chaos in line with the scheming of the enemies of democracy.

I personally can't agree more !
Like the rumoured coups, Aandoka and co.

He commended the leadership of the National Assembly for allowing constitutional processes to guide their conduct in addressing the issues being raised by the absence of President Yar’Adua, reiterating confidence that the President would return to Nigeria before long.

A little bit of Blah-Blah-Blah but kini big deal !
Do you wish the guy to die there in saudi ?

The street protest to show solidarity with the ailing president by members of his group, he said was a sacrifice meant to ensure that governance was held together in the absence of the President and for the interest of democracy.
Okoroji stressed that the task of keeping Nigeria together had never been the exclusive preserve of anyone but that of the generality of Nigerians.
Can someone tell me what is freaking wrong with this assertion as well !
I still dont see anything wrong with these statements!

Addressing the rally, one Kolade Akinjo told the National Assembly members to always be no guard in defence of democracy as according to him, Nigeria would outlive the present political crisis and move on to the next phase of democracy amid congenial atmosphere.
“If Mr. President is indisposed and had to leave the country for treatment, the nation owes it a duty to view his case with utmost compassion and sympathy,” he said before praying for the president’s quick recovery.

Even me I support this one.
And pray for anyone who is ill to get well ASAP.

Sometimes some of you need to stop and read before condeming.

See how an ordinary misplaced headline has made fools out of many of you. undecided
As far as im concerned this is entirely a valid demonstration !
