People who are HIV positive and taking medication do not spread the virus when they have sex, a study has found. It means an end to the HIV pandemic could be in sight. Scientists studied 1,000 gay male couples - one HIV positive and taking antiretroviral drugs to suppress the virus, and the other HIV negative. Over the course of eight years, the virus was not transmitted once. Professor Alison Rodger from University College London, who co-led the research, said the study provided "conclusive evidence for gay men that the risk of HIV transmission with suppressive ART (antiretroviral therapy) is zero". She added that "this powerful message can help end the HIV pandemic by preventing HIV transmission". Dr Michael Brady, from HIV charity the Terrence Higgins Trust, said the findings would have an "incredible impact on the lives of people living with HIV". https://e3.365dm.com/19/05/768x432/skynews-istock-image-hiv_4657438.jpg?20190503080659 Over eight years, the virus was not transmitted once Researchers said the couples had sex without condoms about 77,000 times, estimating that had medication not been taken, there would have been about 472 transmissions of HIV. During the eight years, 15 men did become infected with HIV, but it did not come from their main partner. "We used cutting-edge technology to analyse the genetic strains of the virus in the rare cases where a new HIV infection occurred," said Professor Anna Maria Geretti from the University of Liverpool's Institute of Infection and Global Health. She added: "Our work was key because we were able to show that there was no relation between the virus strains of the two people in the couple. "In other words, in all cases of new HIV infections, the new virus was so different from that of the HIV-positive partner that it must have come from somebody else." ART proved just as effective for gay couples as it did for heterosexual couples. Dr Brady said it was "impossible to overstate the importance of these findings", adding: "The study has given us the confidence to say, without doubt, that people living with HIV who are on effective treatment cannot pass the virus on to their sexual partners." The study is published in The Lancet medical journal.[img]Scientists find "conclusive evidence for gay men that the risk of HIV transmission with antiretroviral therapy is zero". Kalashnikov382:Seriously, guys with this mentality that they must spend on their girlfriend always almost end up miserably, if not dead. This is pure toxic masculinity, just by being a man you think you should automatically be financially responsible for your girlfriend or wife. You do this because you don't see her as equal, you think she's under you. It's not because of love, is a horrible combination of lack of self-control and toxic ego. Get wise and stop being enslaved by female beauty |
Saffi:How can you have this kind of sense of entitlement and still want to be treated as equal with him? Well, some guys are about to launch a massive campaign to properly educate men on what true equality is, and that includes cutting off most of the unspoken benefits currently being enjoyed by women. Let's be fair to all |
Niangollan42:Hopefully! |
Amakababe:Toxic feminity |
delugajackson:Such a dumb comment, and I even thought you were smart. If you're smart, why haven't you hugged a transformer yet? |
sinaj:Because the current government itself lacks shame. The entire country is shameless |
Liliyann:The man got what he deserves? So you don't mind being killed for your sisters misbehaviour ? Think before you write. |
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2019, EVERYONE. BETTER DAYS AHEAD ALWAYS. |
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2019!!!
|
tossie101:You hate him? He doesn't care, don't even know you exist. |
Interesting15:What's wrong with being an Antichrist? Aren't you a satanist? |
henryobinna:That same problem with social media is what enables a creature like you to have a say on a topic you know absolutely nothing about |
slimdamatrix1:Freeze is sick of foolish people too, literally. |
Op congrats on your nonsense post |
Slikbae:You should free yourself from HATE against men. I am not inconsequential and neither am I a dimwit. It seems you're just a naive teenager. Hating men cannot bring about justice for the victims of rape. Be reasonable, stop justifying HATE against men due to the crimes of a few. |
seunmsg:Are you aware that Nigerian army invaded his home while he was on a legally granted bail? If you don't understand court processes you ask questions or keep quiet and observe. |
WetinConsignMe:Yeah I get what you mean bro, but still Daddy Freeze wasn't wrong in pointing out that the original name is Yaheshua |
WetinConsignMe:Yeah, I've read about dark matter / energy, they're really mysterious |
WetinConsignMe:If God already knows what we will say even before we open our mouth, then there's no point for us to go ahead to say it. All we have to do is just to think about it and God will immediately understand, right? And if we decide to go ahead and say it anyway, then the words we use wouldn't matter at all since God already understands what we actually meant, so that way, when praying we can use words like "J man bless us today" and it won't matter, right? Slangs won't matter since God understands what we actually mean, in fact we can even make it more funkier like "J ma nigger" bless us today. And God will still answer the prayer |
WetinConsignMe:It's more confusing. If God planned everything, and it's all playing out exactly as he planned it, then how is there free will? If it's all God's plan then you can't do anything different from that plan, so where does free will apply? |
WetinConsignMe:There's no universal consensus on the correct way to speak in tongues, so we can't always claim that god understands them. Kakakak yeprimo ventrimi lele sha sha tempremo Jesusu nemeni Some people still manage to include names when speaking in tongues. And you can't say they're not doing it right cause there's no standard. So there's no proof that God understands it. |
WetinConsignMe:My point is that based on your submission about God and his intentions, we can safely conclude that all evil or sins originates from God because they're all his intentions, and we humans are only living out what God has already predestined to happen. So all terrorists and in fact, all sinners cannot be held responsible for their sins or crimes, simply because God intended them to do it. Is this correct? |
Slikbae:Whatever you thought I meant is your assumption, if you don't understand what a person meant, you ask for clarity. Your last statement just exposed your pitiable level of intelligence. Horrible and hate-filled cesspit souls like you don't deserve a place in the society. You should be in yaba-left. I can't ague further with you, keep of. But if you wish to get into muddy waters I will help you get there much faster. |
Slikbae:You need men to get justice for those crimes, keep that in mind. You also need to understand the concept of individuality, you can't blame all for the crime of one. It's very important for one to keep their reasoning abilities above their emotions at all times. TRY |
thorpido:Corresponding translations of a language in other languages is very understandable, but a person's name is Sacrosanct. Their shouldn't be any room for ambiguity, especially due to translation. A person's name has to be treated as Sacrosanct. |
WetinConsignMe:What about the terrorists, are they part of God's plan too? |
thorpido:But that shouldn't be a problem since we all know the "who" it's intended for. These day's many people also bear the name Jesus as well, so that ambiguity also applies to it somehow as well. Isn't it better to stick to a person's Original name in the language that it was given rather than leaving it open to all kinds of translations? If Segun travel's to the U.K, his name should continue to be what it is, Segun, not to be converted to the English translated version "Victor". Its it better? |
WetinConsignMe:So if we're living out his intentions, then why is there hell? Are those who will end up in hell also his intentions? Are terrorists also living out his intentions? |
thorpido:Alright I agree that it's a slang, but given the context it's still acceptable to god, right? And equally as powerful as Jesus, right? How about some of my friends who like to refer to Jesus as "J man", is this also okay? considering the context? |
